After upgrade file/app. ownership changed to "unknown"

My G5 would not shut down so Apple support told me to do an archive and install without retaining settings. As a result of the archive and install many of my files and applications had the ownership changed to "unknown". Is this normal? What is the easy and safe way to fix this problem.

I am pretty sure this is normal, but try calling Apple back on the same case to verify. To fix it, open a terminal window and type
whoami
this will tell you who you are logged in as. Say you are logged in as "bob" then type
chown -R bob ~bob

Hanging on boot after upgrading server.app

After upgrading to 10.9 Server.App my boot hangs at "/etc/rc.server: line 14: /etc/rc.server.firewall: No such file or directory" and won't boot into safe mode either. Anyone know how I can fix this without restoring from a backup?

I'm on a 2011 iMac, with a DIY Fusion Drive (I added a SSD inside). I always had slow startups. I thought it was the custom Fusion Drive's fault, but now I know it was not.
Now I can't boot at all, just after applying the most recent 10.9.2 security update. This is a software issue. The iMac was running Mountain Lion Server, then I upgraded to Mavericks but did not upgrade to Mavericks Server. However there were remains of the old 10.8 Server app.
As I said, yesterday I deleted all those remains (booting from an external drive). However I forgot the most obvious thing: open that **** /etc/rc.server file and comment out line 14.
This morning I booted the iMac again, in verbose mode. The message about /etc/rc.server was not there, at last, but fsck was launched and took a long time. I had to go to work, where I am now, and I don't know if fsck finished its work. I'll let you know...

After upgrade, files and folders wont compress

After upgrading to Mavericks, I cannot zip a file using the "Compress '<file or folder name>'" option when I right click. It looks like it starts, but then it give me an error "An error occured while compressing the file."
I am not sure how to fix this and this is something I use quite often.

Freezed after upgrading BB App World...please help

I have just updated my BB App World....and now my device wont started.
I have pull out the baterry and insert it again...but the reboot process seems stopped...the progress bar are stopped at about 3/4...and keep freeze even if i waited for about an hour.
Can somebody help me.....thank you.

2.1 upgrade wiped apps, music, changed itunes login

I thought I was doing my girlfriend a favour by letting her upgrade to 2.1 on my computer. A catalogue of disaster followed.
At first iTunes complained that it needed to be upgraded to 8.0. I did this: it failed the first time, I ran the upgrade again and it seemed to work. (The computer runs Windows XP, fully patched and virus-free).
I relaunched iTunes. I started the iPhone upgrade to 2.1. This seemed to work fine (so this must be iTunes 8, right?). But when the phone rebooted after the upgrade, it complained that it couldn't connect to iTunes: iTunes needed to be upgraded to 8.0! Didn't I just do that? I checked the about box, iTunes was still v7.7! What???
Furthermore, the iPhone had had all of its apps, data and music wiped. And when we connect to iTunes on the iPhone, it uses my iTunes account, not hers! So we can't download the apps or music again.
1. How do we change the iTunes login on the phone back to her iTunes account? Maybe then we can get back the apps and music that she paid for.
2. The iPhone software upgrade indicated that it was backing up the iPhone before it performed the upgrade. Where is this data? How can we get it back? Will it contain all the data she stored in the apps that got deleted? Right now iTunes won't even connect to the iPhone because it's the wrong version, even though I thought I'd upgraded iTunes (twice).
3. Where does Apple get off summarily wiping user data and switching user details without any kind of prompt or warning? Something along the lines of "Warning: Do you really want to ruin your life completely? Press Yes or Yes" would be appropriate in this instance.

Yes, she has her own iTunes account, that's how she purchased the apps and music.
So will this happen automatically as soon as she connects to iTunes on her own computer? She tells me she tried that and nothing happened, but I'll try again.
And what has happened to the backup of the iPhone that was made during the 2.1 upgrade? Can that be retrieved from my computer?

German language changed into english after upgrade but wont re-change

the option in settings is still on german but the whole iTunes is english after i upgraded to the 7.4.3.1 version.

I need to be sure I haveunderstood correctly.
You know that if you go to Edit>>Preferences>General you can set your language, then you have to restart iTunes for the change to take effect.
So you have set you language to Genrman and it stays in English?
Something that has worked for someone esle is to do a repair install of iTunes.
Go to Control Panel>>Add remove programs.
Select iTunes and press Change. Then Choose repair.

Delta load after upgrade to 2004s - Functional changes

I have some doubts about Delta using DTP.
Our BI landscape has been upgraded to 2004s from 3.1 (technical upgrade). There are many existing delta loads and we cannot afford to mess anything at all. So my question to you all
When we do a functional upgrade...
1. The existing delta from 0FIL_GL_4, AP_4, AR_4, WBS_6, NWA_2 etc all having delta loads right now and go to DSO. The records are in many millions. It is highly unlikely they will allow me to delete the PSA and reload all, because it will take couple of months. So that is out of the question.
We have 3 situations.
1. Delta from Data Source into DSO.
2. Delta from DSO to Cubes
3. Delete from few Cube to Cube.
Questions
1. After converting from Info Package to DTP I will still load the delta from Data Source to PSA, but the data source need to migrated to 2004s. WIll it cause any issues in loading delta data?.
2. The DSO to further targets are using delta info package, I believe I change the info package to DTP with load mode selected as DELTA. Is this correct?

DTP is used to load data only from PSA to Datatargets and DELTA DTP Loads the last PSA request which was transferred to PSA from source.
So 2 plausible ways could be -
1)Delete all PSA data and so your DELTA DTP will get the DELTA load only or new changed posted to PSA only and not all the previous requests ..but you may not want to delete the PSA now.
2)Fake the DTP using some infoobject FILTER selection criteria as blank which acts like INIT w/t data transfer and then do DELTA DTP as mentioned below -

Un-installing VS2008 after upgrading all Apps to VS2013

I have upgraded all my applications from VS2008 Std to VS2013 Pro, except for one. It is a VS2008 ClickOnce app that I need to use until I've worked out the bugs with the VS2013 converter app. it has been moved to VS2013, but won't debug, as referenced
in another thread regarding problems with Microsoft.VisualBackPowerPacks(LineShaper) and forms.designer.
I want to un-install VS2008. Will I have any problems running the VS2008 ClickOnce app? There are no changes to the database tables between the VS2008/Vs2013 versions. I think all the VS2008 references are embedded in the click once published
app. Am I correct, and can I uninstall VS2008 Standard without any negative impact?

Hello Terry,
If you have already upgraded the application from VS2008 to VS2013, and no reference is required from Visual Stuio 2008, I think you can remove VS2008 without problem.
However, if there is no impact about the time to uninstal VS2008, I will recommend you jus keep it until you have finished all your job. We cannot be sure what will happen if you uninstalled VS2008, I don't konw details about your project.

Login issue after upgrading sun app server 8.1 to 9.0

Hi, I recently upgraded sun application server from 8.1 to 9.0. Now when I go to my web application in my browser and try to login, its giving me an error.
System Messages We're sorry but we are unable to log you in at this time...
Error: Error in allocating a connection. Cause: Connection could not be allocated because: Access denied for user ''@'localhost' (using password: YES)
Any ideas where to start?

After upgrading to firefox 4, redirection to unknown websites made browser completely unusable so had to uninstall it and go back to 3.6

I got the notification that an new version of firefox was available couple of days ago so I upgraded from 3.6.14 to firefox 4. This worked fine. After start up of the browser and doing a google search I realised I was directed to strange sites e.g "gimmeanwser" which had a search like appearance, and similar sites. this even happed with bookmarked sites and to such an extent I was convinced that my computer was infected with malware, but it was so prevalent the browser was useless. I am back to FF 3.6.16 now, and it and all other browsers work fine.

Frozen after reboot after upgrading Blackberry App World

Hi my phone is the Blackberry Curve 8900 and i am on the o2 network.I recieved an upgrade message tonight from Blackberry App World for the newest version of the app.I downloaded and then let the phone reboot.Since then the load up screen gets about halfway then freezes.I have removed the battery and left for 10 mins but no luck.I left the phone to reboot for around an hour but no luck.I have also tried connecting it to the PC but it says the device is not recognised as it is rebooting?

That happened to me, what you have to do is take out the battery and hold down the back space button while it restarts. Then it is in safe mode now you need to delete the upgrade.

Problems opening PDF files after upgrading file server to 2012 R2

Hi,
At the weekend we upgraded our main file server from Windows 2003 to 2012 R2.
Since the upgrade, users (including myself) can only open one PDF document at a time from the file server. If I double click a PDF file, it opens like normal, however If I double click another PDF file, the acrobat reader flashes (in task manager I can see another instance AcroRd32.exe starts and then exits) but the second document doesn't open.
If I close the first document down, and then try and open the second one, then it opens with no problems.
This only affected opening files on the new file server, opening multiple files on a local drive is fine.
If I disable 'enable protected mode at startup' then I can open up multiple documents from the file server. I'd prefer not to have to do this.
The users are using Acrobat Reader 11.0.10 on both Windows 7 64bit and Windows 2008 R2 Remote Desktop.
Does anyone have any ideas what may be causing this? And does anyone have a workaround other than disabling protected mode?

An update...
The new fileserver has a different name than the old server. We have a CNAME alias pointing the old name to the new name.
I only get the problem when accessing the PDF documents with the old name, when accessing via the new name, everything works as expected.
However there are lots of shortcuts and other other links to the old name, so finding a workaround would still be good.

After upgrade, standby apps have disappeared

I recently upgraded by N95 and all went well. The new GPS software in particular is amazing, MUCH faster at finding where the GPS position.
BUT the front screen of the phone is almost blank, whereas before it had a summary of my calendar and shortcuts of favourite applications. How can I get this back?
I have an N95 now at 21.0.016 on O2 in the UK.

You are right, since writing the email, I have fiddled quite a bit, and restored the firmware, over writing the existing setup. The problem does not exist after the firmware.
The problem shows it's ugly side the second I restore my backup and I now know exactly what application is causing me all this grief... Handy Shell - I installed it 3 days ago, and it basically replaces the front screen amongst other things. It's a nasty little **bleep**, because it totally screws everything up, and uninstalling doesn't do anything. It doesn't uninstall.
It just freezes the screen and then the phone shows the following message "Contact your retailer"... and there is nothing one can do to get past it (that is if you have a pin number on your SIM card). Fortunately for me I have two phones, and when I use my other sim in the N95, and push a lot of buttons when the phone starts, I can get past the nasty message.
As mentioned above, I have solved this problem by re-installing the firmware.
