After upgrade System fail to boot

Hi,
few days ago I did the system upgrade and after reboot i get several errors and the system doesn't boot, the first one in the list is:
FATAL could not load "/lib/modules/3.0-ARCH/modules.dep" no such file or directory
I think the problem is that in my /lib/modules/ dir there is no /3.0-ARCH dir but there is the 3.1.4.1-ARCH and the 3.1 extramodules.
why that? Is this problem coming from the upgrade?
also the network is not recognized
and the RAID disks are not mounted
the only thing I found on internet is this article:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=129970
but I cannot downgrade because the pkg dir is empty and I cannot connect to internet for get it
can you please help me?
thanks

I found something maybe useful...
in the dmesg I found that the boot disk is loaded as sdc but, I'm sure it was sda before the upgrade.
in the menu.lst there is
- title Arch lunix [/boot/vmlinuz.linux]
- root (hd0,0)
- kernel /vmlinuz-linuz root=/dev/sda3 ro
- initrd /initramfs-linux.img
do you think that changing something in this I can have back my boot partition?

  • After upgrade system no longer boots, and (apparently) no USB

    So I've got Arch installed on my mom's computer. Apparently she did an update and now this: http://imgur.com/AQBZLQV
    ERROR: Unable to find root device 'PARTUUID<stuff>'
    It drops to a shell, but the shell doesn't work. Possibly because it's a USB keyboard? The keyboard works in the BIOS just fine, but when it hits that screen - nada.
    Of course, she's not *that* savvy, so I don't think she paid any attention to what exactly was updating. So far the only information I've got from her is that she updated, restarted, and death.
    I'm assuming it'd be possible to get back in there and rescue it with a disk - maybe grub got pooched? I actually had similar problems when I initially set up the machine and forgot some steps...

    hey bro, I had to change my hooks in mkinitcpio.conf. Might be a different problem. might be related.

  • [SLOVED] All my USB not work after upgrade system.

    Hello all,
    I'm new in Arch, and i install my system with your LiveCD (2005).
    In the first boot, all work good. But after upgrade (pacman -Syu), all my USB device (Keyboard, Mouse) not work.
    I'm not using (yet) with Xorg, just in command shell (tty1), But i can't press anything cuz my keyboard not work.
    I try to do that (https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 19#p906119), but no work to me too.
    What i can to do to fix this?

    FYI, the latest installation CD version is "2010.05". It's best to use the latest. Get it from http://www.archlinux.org/download/
    I'm not sure but I believe all other LiveCDs are custom made outside of the official Archlinux development team.
    I recommend downloading the CD I mentioned and follow this guide: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Beginners%27_Guide
    I've installed arch many times on different hardware and the only time I lost mouse and keyboard was after I removed "10-evdev.conf" and "10-quirks.conf" from /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/. I copied both back from backups, rebooted and m&k were functional again. My guess is  "10-evdev.conf" was the file I needed. Check both these files exist.

  • How to register Final Cut Studio after upgrading system?

    After upgrading my system and changing to a new G5 Final Cut Studio lost Registering Info.
    Always after around 5 times booting Final Cut I have a dialog box, that I have to register.
    But the "Register Now" button is not aktive!
    What to do?
    G5 2x2 GB 1,5 GB RAM Mac OS X (10.4.7)
    G5 2x2 GB 1,5 GB RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    Make sure you have filled out all the fields
    If I remember right, there is one field that is left blank (can not remember which one). Fill that one in, and the register button should become active.

  • After upgrade it won't boot

    I have a MBP Mid 2010 13 inch that we had at work that would not boot.  I ended up erasing the disk and went out and bought Snow Leopard to install on it.  Snow Leopard installed and booted fine but anytime I try to do the updates the system will not boot.  I can the go back in reinstall from the DVD and it boots fine but of course without the updates.  I have run the Apple hardware test and that did not find any errors.
    If I have it go into verbose mode during boot the last thing that gets displayed is AirPort:  Link Down on en1.  Reason 1 (Unspecified)
    The retail version of Snow Leopard that I bought was 10.6.3 and I tried to update to 10.6.8 and had the issue.  Then I reloaded and tried again but just to 10.6.4 and had the same issue.
    I have probably reloaded it 4 times now and changed the hard disk out for that last reload/update and it did the same thing.
    I had hoped to put Lion on this but need to get it to 10.6.8 first.  This thing is crazy frustrating.....    Anyone got any ideas?
    TIA

    Sound like you have the old Snow Leopard "dropped Wfi" issue.
    Seem the recourse is to flush your router and reset it.
    Direct connect via ethernet cable to the modem
    1: grab firmware updates for router (if not Apple) else Software Update and Airport Update.
    2: WPA2 (AES)  Personal 20 random character password, one each for Admin and Guest Internet access
    3: leave MAC filtering and invisible alone, doesn't work against hackers, just causes connection issues.

  • [SOLVED] System fails to boot after upgrade.

    Not exactly sure what happened as the upgrade appeared to go smoothly. Now trying to start just causes an endless cycle of rebooting. I have been unable to even boot into single user mode. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated here.
    Using the livecd I can mount all the filesystems, and I have run fsck on all of them so I know they are clean. Here are my grub entries:
    # (0) Arch Linux
    title Arch Linux
    root (hd0,1)
    kernel /boot/vmlinuz26 root=/dev/disk/by-uuid/569a7fe5-7452-4064-adc1-71b6b2b58b0b resume=/dev/sda7 ro vga=773 elevator=deadline
    initrd /boot/kernel26.img
    # (1) Arch Linux
    title Arch Linux Fallback
    root (hd0,1)
    kernel /boot/vmlinuz26 root=/dev/disk/by-uuid/569a7fe5-7452-4064-adc1-71b6b2b58b0b ro vga=773
    initrd /boot/kernel26-fallback.img
    I have tried using a kernel line of just:
    kernel /boot/vmlinuz26 root=/dev/sda2 ro
    and get the same results, as soon as grub starts to load the kernel the system reboots and I can't see what's on screen long enough to know what's happening.

    That does appear to be my issue, I use jfs with no separate /boot
    Edit:
    The following steps fixed it:
    Mount your / (and /boot partition into this mount) from your Ach system, ex:
    sda2 (/) -> /mnt/arch
    sda1 (/boot)(if you have a own /boot) -> /mnt/arch/boot
    Do a chroot /mnt
    and therein a:
    pacman -U /var/cache/pacman/pkg/kernel26-2.6.30.1-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz (or i686)

  • After Upgrade to Snow Leopard booting Stops at Apple sign plus spinning cir

    I changes the harddrive in my mac Book pro (Late 2008). Before i had a fujitsu 400 gb harddrive. It was Slow, but it worked. Now i changed it into a hitachi travelstar 500 gb 7k500. Installing Leopard no problem. It worked just Fine. Then i installed the Upgrade to Snow Leopard and after restart it went until the apple sign with the spinnig Circle under it ( Grey screen). and the Circle keeps spinnig for hours and Snow Leopard won't start. Can someone Tell me what the problem is and what i can do about it. I read Lots of posts in other communities andit Sems as if thers had nö Problem with this hard drive but None Said if he had Snow leopard installed. I am starting to freak, because i can't figure it out.
    Before the spinnig Circle there's another Odd Thing. The Grey screen with the Apple sign Shows up with Progress bar under it. I don't Know. Never had a Problem like hat before. Hope you can help me.
    I just changed the harddrive, all hemother components of my Computer are original.
    Tanks for your help

    Thanks. Now I could back it up. It even booted. But now I have a new problem. The new hard drive is reallz faster than the old one. But Evers now and then the system just freezes. Not like when it was overworked before with the old system. No it completely freezes. You can just move the mouse then. But you can move windows, can't click on anything. This lasts about 30 seconds, then everything is normal. Is there a size maximum for a internal hard drive or cache max or a speed max. It makes go crazy.
    But never the less. You first hit helped. Maybe you have another one.

  • QuickTime & Security upgrades--system will not boot

    Hello. I'm new to the posting/discussion board world, and while I have reviewed other threads I haven't found anything yet to solve my problem.
    Let me say that I am not sure of the particular OS version I am using (10.4.8 is a guess). Since I tried to install the QT/security update last weekend, my iMac gets to a point where something (either the hardrive or the fan, or both) are making considerable noise. The machine sounds like it's trying to take off.
    Having browsed some other threads, I have done these things:
    I booted the computer using my system installation disk; ran Disk Utilities; repaired the disk; and verified disk permissions. Initially, the repair-disk function did not succeed, but I have run it again and it indicated success. I have fixed disk permissions and verified them, again apparently successfully.
    When I attempt to boot, the gray screen comes up but after approximately one minute a circle appears where the Apple ought to be and the harddrive/fan ramps up to take-off speed. Out of fear for the system I do not let this condition continue for more than a few minutes and I turn the machine off by pressing the power button for several seconds. It seems clear that it won't boot.
    I have not been able to boot into safe mode, either, if that means holding down the shift key upon power up.
    I am now lost as to what I can do without attempting to re-install OS X from the disk or seeking other professional help. I sincerely appreciate any assistance in this matter.
    Aaron Fultz
    Ames, Iowa

    BDAqua,
    My deepest appreciation for your assistance. Your solution seems to have worked and the system appears to be running as before.
    If I may ask two follow-up questions:
    1. If I ensure that the disk permissions are repaired/verified, can/should I go ahead and update my system with the 10.4.11 update?
    2. Do I maintain the "previous system" file on my harddisk, or can I safely delete it?
    Thanks again for your help and guidance. It was rather upsetting having my computer disabled like that. I've definitely learned from this.
    Aaron

  • After upgrade System Apache can't start

    Hi i work with php5, apache (default) and mysql on my MacBook Pro...
    This weekend i have installed the last upgrade of system, but now my server apache don't start..
    If i try to start/stop/restart apache from terminal i get this error:
    cbmac:~ cbmac$ apachectl start

    I have already repaired the files permissions with Disk Utility, but without resolving the problem.
    I don't know what to do, someone have idea?
    Thanks in advance
    Manza

    I also have the same error:

    But may have found a solution here in this thread ( Comment by 'parndt' ):

    I havnt tried it yet, As I spent half of yesterday, formatting, then trying to compile Apache, php, mysql, openssl on on a seperate partition, but changing the Apache LAYOUT config, yet the mac wouldn't listen to my changes and kept trying to use the original broken version.
    I am formatting now, and going to try on a clean install, so will let you know.

  • [Solved] After upgrading system/VIrtualbox kernels won't load

    After running an update on my system and trying to use Virtualbox I recieve this:

  • [SOLVED]system fails to boot since adding udev rules for automounting

    Hello
    I have recently been trying to use udev rules to automount, and putting together stuff from the wiki, forums and general googling around have produced the following set of rules:
    # automounts usb hdd and pendrives as usbhd-sdx; no messing around with
    # volume labels or other confusing stuff
    # matches all sdx devices except the internal hdd, sda
    KERNEL=="sd[b-z]", NAME="%k", SYMLINK+="usbhd-%k", GROUP="users", OPTIONS="last_rule"
    # imports filesystem information
    ACTION=="add", IMPORT{program}="/sbin/blkid -o udev -p %N"

    This seemed to be working very well unitl I tried to boot this morning and the boot process stopped at "processing UDev events" with the following message:
    iTCO_wdt: Unexpected close, not stopping watchdog!
    It pauses at this point for 10-15 seconds and then reboots.
    Having searched a bit, I found the following similar post on the forums:  http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=459375
    Which suggests that the problem might lie with this line:
    ACTION=="add", IMPORT{program}="/sbin/blkid -o udev -p %N"
    I have renamed the file so that it no longer has the udev .rules extension and now the system boots fine.  Does anyone have any suggestions as to why the above rules might be causing this behaviour and how I might go about fixing it?
    Thanks

    Hey falconindy
    That was the final kick up the logical a$$ that I needed to get some kind of grip on udev rules.  I now have a fully functional rule that applies only to /dev/sdxy and not to everything else as well, so no more boot trauma, THANK YOU.
    I will mark this thread as solved and post my new rule for the benefit of anyone who might read this.
    New rule (no boot problems):
    # automounts usb hdd and pendrives as label or as usbhd-sdxy if no label present
    # ensures the following is _only_ run for sdxy devices excluding internal hdd, sda
    KERNEL!="sd[b-z][0-9]", GOTO="personal_usb_automount_settings_end"
    # imports filesystem information
    # provides access to following variables:
    # ID_FS_UUID; ID_FS_UUID_ENC; ID_FS_VERSION; ID_FS_TYPE; ID_FS_VERSION; ID_FS_LABEL
    # accessible via ENV{variable}; $env{variable}|%E{variable}
    IMPORT{program}="/sbin/blkid -o udev -p %N"
    # Get a label if present, otherwise name usbhd-%k
    ENV{ID_FS_LABEL}!="", ENV{dir_name}="%E{ID_FS_LABEL}"
    ENV{ID_FS_LABEL}=="", ENV{dir_name}="usbhd-%k"
    # creates mount points and sets up symlinks

    ACTION=="add", ENV{ID_FS_TYPE}=="vfat|ntfs", ENV{mount_options}="$env{mount_options},gid=100,dmask=000,fmask=111,utf8"
    # automount ntfs filesystem with ntfs-3g driver

  • Time machine bug after upgrading system

    Hello,
    I just upgraded my macbook pro from Lion to Mountain Lion.
    After this upgrade, I created a new admin account and tried to install back my previous account with my entire files thanks to migration assistant with a time machine data.
    Unfortunately, it seems that my 150go of personal data are in my hard drive after time machine'work but I can see my last account with my entire file. I have just the choice to loggin to my new ML admin account. Moreover, I can use some application with this new account but the fact is that I can found my important files.
    Do you have any solution in order to find my previous account?
    Thank you,
    Regards,
    Niels.

    See the pink box in Problems after using Migration Assistant for an explanation.  One of the workarounds in the green box (probably #4) should set things right.
