After upgrade to 10.4 won't read CD-ROM's

I just installed 10.4 from DVD onto my Blue&white G3. Prior to that I installed a Lite-On SOHW-1693S06C combo drive. The Lite-On drive worked fairly well in 10.2 even though it is not technically supported. Now, strangely, it will read DVD's just fine, but will not read a single CD-ROM that I put into it (and I've tried just about every type of CD I can find). When I put in the CD the drive light goes on for a while and then goes off again and nothing - no icon on the screen, no error messages. I found a few posts from a year ago or so that seem to be identifying the same problem. The only solution put forward was to boot from the install DVD and repair permissions. I did that and it didn't solve the problem. Any ideas? (Sorry in advance if this topic has already been covered and solved.)

Do you have any CDs you can try booting from - Diskwarrior, old OS X or OS 9 installation CDs, etc? If none of those will boot I suspect a hardware problem with the drive. Have you tried cleaning the lens?

I am trying to re-install my iLife '11 programs on my IMac after I did a full wipe and reinstall to upgrade to Mavericks (OS X 10.9.5 (13F34)). Can anyone help me with how I can re-install the iLife '11 programs? I have tried inserting my install DVD (iLife '11 Retail v11.1) but for some reason it is not reading the disc.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am lost without my programs.

Hi, not sure if this applies to iLife '11 & 10.9.x, but several people have had trouble re-installing iLife if the Date set is greater than 2010, try turning off Automatic Time update & setting it back.
Does it show up in Disk Utility at all? Do other CDs/DVDs show up fine?
If you haven't yet...
Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive & clear caches.)

No, the versions of iPhoto on the iPad and on OS X are totally different.
What Apple ID are you using for the Mac App Store? Who else has access to that Apple ID, or what possible other Apple IDs could be in use? It's possible you'll need to purchase iPhoto to get the upgrade, though I'd think Software Update should offer you the correct version.

After upgrade to iOS 8.3 screen reader in iBooks crashes

It happened on my iPhone 4S and iPad Air today After an upgrade.
When in iBooks, screen reader reads the page on the screen, finishes reading the text, turns the page but gives up (crashes?) immediately after. the reader "toolbar" simply disappears.
Before the upgrade it would turn the page and continue reading. Not anymore.
google doesn't seem to know anything about this.
Can anyone else confirm the behaviour? I tried it on several PDFs - the same behaviour.

Your observation is right. I am facing the same issue after upgrading to iOS 8.3. The trial and error was common with Microsoft .. it seems Apple is catching up with MS .
I hope they address this issue quickly.

After upgrade LR 5.5 won't open (OS X Mavericks)

After upgrading to LR 5.5 via CC's application manager it will no longer open. Launching LR produces the splash screen where it just stops loading. Activity Monitor indicates that it is not responding. Looking in the system logs I see this:

After upgrade to Lion, iPhone won't charge after Mac goes to sleep

I did a clean install of Lion, and have run Software Update. There are no problems with the system, but I noticed that when I plug the iPhone in to the Mac, it won't charge when the Mac goes to sleep.
The iPhone gives the normal charging tone when it gets plugged in, and if I l press the Home button, it displays the charging screen. If I select Sleep from the Apple menu, the Mac goes to sleep and the screen on the iPhone blinks on as if not plugged in, showing the normal unlock screen. When I wake the Mac, the phone beeps and shows the charging screen.
Is there a setting I can change to get the iPhone to continue charging after the Mac goes to sleep?

This behavior is new in my experience, having been on Snow Leopard. I've always just plugged the iPhone into my keyboard since it is very convenient, and it has always charged overnight, even while the Mac slept. So this is not normal behavior for my system.
My question is, has this changed in Lion?

[Solved] After upgrading system/VIrtualbox kernels won't load

After running an update on my system and trying to use Virtualbox I recieve this:

Hi, I just followed the palm directions to upgrade from a Tungsten E to E2. Before the hotsync the palm recognized my SD card, but it doesn't recognize it anymore afterwards. Am I missing something in the hotsync process?

I have a 512mb panasonic SD card from way back that worked on my old Tungesten E, so I am sure that's not the problem. I went through the recommended upgrade steps faithfully with the new Palm Desktop moving a bunch of my old applications into a folder that aren't E2 compatible, then it went ahead and supposedly restored everything. However, it failed to recognize my SD card afterwards no matter what. I found a thread on here that said it may be incompatiblity issues with old software, so I ended up manually restoring my contacts/memos etc and then reinstalling some of the old software.
I must say that I am very disappointed with the whole upgrade process. I should've bought an used Tungsten E in retrospect so I woulnd't have to deal with all the hassle.
As an aside, now that my E2 is semi functional I found that my screen calibration is off, such that I had a hard time tapping on the bottom of the writing area to get the keyboard. I played around for hours to see if I can trick the touch screen application into adjusting, but the best I could do is get the keyboard to work but near the upper portion of the screen it's still off. I do have a screen protector but it's very well plastered to the screen. Do I have a defective unit?
