After upgrade to Mavericks display options are no longer available
I am using a sony kde42xbr950 tv for my display for my mac mini. However, after I installed os x 10.9.4 I can't see the menu bar and neither options, resolutions below 720p, nor overscan is available to be able to fix it. I tried doing it with the tv screen options but that didn't change anything. Any suggestions? I can use it this way, but it isn't optimal.

In the iCloud preference pane, uncheck the box marked Calendars & Reminders if it's checked. You may get an alert that one or more calendars will be deleted from your computer. Confirm. The calendars won't be deleted from iCloud. Leave the preference pane open.
Quit Reminders if it's running, and also quit Calendar or iCal.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
~/Library/Calendars/Calendar Cache
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a file named "Calendar Cache" selected.
Move the selected file to the Trash. There may be one or two other files in the same folder with names that begin in "Calendar Cache". If so, delete those files too.
If you unchecked the box in the iCloud preference pane, check it again and close the preference pane.
Launch Reminders and test.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return. -
after upgrade to Mavericks , I have now two long black strip on my monitor 30 inches , one at the top, and the other one at the buttom, the rest of the display is fine with Mav. desktop screen with menu bar and dock. Before with mountain lion everything was fine. I have 2 display . one apple 20 inche display with no black strip and a 30 inches LG Flatron W3000H with those 2 black strip. I losing i inch tall at the top and same at the buttom.I try to install maverick again ,same problem, try the display panel of course , no luck. help
MarioI already try that , my largest resolution on the 30 inc is 2560 by1440.Not working.I mixed up , I actually upgrated from 10.6.8. When I boot from a 10.6.8 partition , I have no problem. But I realize that my 20 display can have 1680 by 1050 max and my 30 2560 by 1600 max. Then if I boot from 10.9 partition I am having the probem with the black strip and my 20 can max at 2560 by1600 and my 30 can max at 2560 by 1440 with the bars. I realize too that I do not have a menu bar on the 20 display, only on my 30. And when I do a safe mode boot 10.9 , the 2 bars are gone and I have a full 30 display. That workstation is a MacPro 2008 with ati HD 4870 512 k . I checked I did not found any updrate for the video cards.
On my other workstion that I upgrated from Montain Lion to 10.9 which it the latest 27 inc IMac with a second 30 inc Apple display I have no probem , no black bars and and I have a menu bar on both displays.By the way , before I bought the new Imac , I was working with the macpro with same video card and I had the two 30 inc display , running 10.6.8 with no problem.
I have another problem too that I post on the wifi section. Since upgrade to 10.9 on the macpro , the one with the bars , I lost my wifi icon on the menu bar. i went to Network pane and I do no see a wifi section, only ethernet, firewire, and bluetooth and I try to add another choice the dialog do not let me choose from a wifi. I owne a airport extreme 4 gen and when i open airport utility the airport ext is discovered but no wireless.
I work with pictures, with Lightroom 5 which I instal on the Imac 27, no problem. But I am waiting to install anything on the macpro in case I have to reinstall again 10.9 or if a 10.9.1 update could fix the problem.
Anybody with these two problem, the bars and the missing wifi

Satellite A215 - Fn key are no longer available after Vista reinstall
Hi all,not.
I recently re-installed Vista on my laptop and I noticed that the Function key options are no longer available for Brightness adjustments, Computer lock and such likes. If anyone has a direct link to the drivers for this that would be great, I thought i had them all from the Toshiba ebsite but apparently not.
Also, The scroll functin is not working on my touchpad. I have downloaded the latest synaptics drivers and installed them to no avail...Any help on that would also be appreciated.
I cehcked the mouse options and those seem to be good. there is no "touchpad" options in Control panel however...maybe something there?
Thanks in advance!
RjHi
The A215 is a US notebook. I know this due to the 5 at the and of the model number So you should use the Toshiba US driver page to get the right Vista drivers.
Anyway the FN buttons are controlled by Toshiba Flashcards Utility. This tool sis a part of the Toshiba Vista Value Added package and I think you should reinstall this tool.
I dont know why you touchpad scroll function does not work as it should maybe the settings are not enabled or something likes that
Ive got an A210. Its a European model and equivalent to A215
I can change the touchpad settings here:
Control panel -> Mouse -> last tab (device settings ?:| ) -> settings button
Here new window should open and you could change the settings

I've got a Thunderbolt Display that I use with my Macbook Air (mid 2012) - usually in clamshell mode.
When I let the computer go to sleep, and then wake it up by clicking the mouse, the monitor turns back on but the colors are washed out and purple looking.
The display goes back to normal when I unplug and replug it to my laptop.
I first noticed this problem after upgrading to Mavericks.
I made a video demonstrating the issue here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19179-MVpWA&feature=youtu.be
Any ideas?
Thanks!
WillSame thing for me too. Late 2012 13" MBP Retina. I have to unplug the Thunderbolt cable and plug it back in.
This has only started for me in the last two days. The first two weeks of Mavericks was ok.
Update: I just got back from a trip. I was using the laptop separate from the Thunderbolt display. I hadn't restarted since I returned and connected the monitor. I've just rebooted, and put the computer to sleep. After resuming from sleep, the display is ok. Maybe try rebooting? I'll update if it continues. -
Animated gif in mail are not visible after upgrade to mavericks
Hi,
I use a animated gif in my signature in mail. This gif was playing normally (like a animated gif) in mountain lion when I writes a new message. After upgrading to mavericks I can't see the animated gif playing. I just see the first frame. However when I send a mail to my iPad using iOS 7 the animated gif is playing normally.
Thanx for every answer!I'm having this issue as well — I can no longer send animated gifs in Mail with Mavericks (10.9.0). The image retains its full image size and remains a gif format, but does not play, just sits static. This also affects forwarding animated gifs — which play fine in the mail window — they are static in the compose window and are sent static.

After upgrading to Mavericks and iPhoto 9.5 my shared photo streams seem to contain no photos when seen in iPhoto. From iPad the streams are fine. How can I get them to be recognized by iPhoto again?
Disable Photo Stream in the System/iCloud preference pane
and in iPhoto's Photo Share preference pane.
Reboot and reenable both respectively. That should jump start Photo Stream.

Why did my mouse stop scrolling after upgrading to mavericks?
I have completely lost all ability to scroll with my Apple Magic Mouse after upgrading to Mavericks. Why did this happen? How can it be fixed? It worked fine with Snow Leopard and Mountain Lion.
Everyone:
I was able to solve my own problem, after scouring the Internet looking for solutions. Sadly, the Apple Support Community was of no help.
Here's the full story:
I originally had purchased my iMac with Snow Leopard installed. I loved it just the way it was, and really did not ever want to upgrade. However, I've been around computers long enough to know that I would HAVE to do it someday, only because of the age old problem of wanting to run some new application in the future, but not being able to, becasue the app would only run on the latest version of OS X. I reluctantly upgraded to Mountain Lion less than a year ago, without too many problems -- nothing I wasn't able to fix fairly easily anyway. When Mavericks came out, with the "offer I could not refuse" price of FREE, I knew I would eventually have to install it.
So the day comes when I'm finally ready to install Mavericks. To get ready for that day, I did the following:
I ran CCleaner on Mountain Lion to clear out any old files accumulated. (No longer works in Mavericks)
Made sure my Time Machine backup was up to date
Cleared out gigbytes of old files off my hard drive, and archived them on an external USB drive
Made sure every single app on my iMac was fully upgraded.
Made sure Mountain Lion itself was fully upgraded!
I then set aside a full day for the upgrade, knowing full well how long it could take, even with a very fast internet connection. Eventually I worked up the courage to go to the App Store, and proceded to download Mavericks.
The update seemed to go smoothly enough, no problems that I noticed. So I finally get to the point where I can sign on to my iMac again, opened up the Chrome browser, and found out that my mouse was was unable to scroll. I then opened up Firefox and Safari, and found that I could not scroll pages on those browsers either. As a matter of fact, I couldn't scroll using my mouse no matter what app I tried. That feature was completely lost.
I went to ' System Preferences --> Mouse ' to look at the settings, and only the most basic settings were available: click and speed, nothing at all for scrolling or swiping. That's not good....
Looking to see if anything else was missing in System Preferences, I saw that there was no option for Blue Tooth at all. As a matter of fact, Blue Tooth was completely inoperative, and there was literally nothing I could do to make it work. The Mavericks upgrade had completely trashed Blue Tooth on my iMac. I have no idea how my wireless keyboard and Magic Mouse were even operational, Apple must have some sort of "back door" that keeps those two connected even when the entire Blue Tooth subsystem is off-line.
Since there was absolutely no way to fix this, given the damage done by the Mavericks upgrade, my only choice was to do a complete re-install of Mavericks. I did this by turning off my iMac, and then after turning it back on, I held down the command + R keys to initiate the "recovery" of my iMac, and re-installed Mavericks. There are screens the are displayed that walk you through the process, which is fairly easy and strait-forward.
This above process is a feature called OS X Recovery, and it has been present since Lion. Here's a link to an article that explains it more fully:
OS X: About OS X Recovery
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4718
I did not know about this feature, but found out about it after doing various web searches in an effort to find a solution to my problem.
So, I basically ended up installing Mavericks a second time. This took hours to accomplish, but it worked. After the second installation, I signed on, and sure enough, Blue Tooth was back in operation, and my Magic Mouse worked without any problems what so ever. I had full scrolling ability in all my apps.
So OS X Recovery saved the day, at least for me.
I should note that before doing the Mavericks upgrade on my iMac, I had already performed the upgrade on a family member's MacBook, without any problems encountered at all. They were still running Snow Leopard, the orignal OS that came with their MacBook! Like me they were reluctant to upgrade, but eventually it becomes a necessary evil.
Here's hoping that this information may be of use to someone in the future.

After Upgrade to Yosemite, all apps are slow.
I upgraded to Yosemite and all applications are slow. ( as e.g.. starting to type in this box give me beachball for 2 seconds initially) A big difference in speed from Mavericks to Yosemite. Opening system preferences takes 3 seconds to load, and clicking on Users & Groups takes 25 seconds to open.
I do not have fire vault enabled. I did a safe boot and some apps did appear to open faster. Also did a repair disk and rebooted. No change. When Safari is open it takes 5 seconds to open a new window. I ran EtreCheck and the report is as follows;
Thanks for any help;( After pasting the EtreCheck text file, I clicked on this box to add the Thanks... , it took 2-3 seconds for the beach ball to stop spinning.)

0 B Page-outsYou could do that, but when setting up your new iMac it is a much better idea to transfer only your existing User Accounts. In other words when Setup Assistant appears, de-select "Applications", "Computer and Network Settings" and "Other files and folders". That way you will eliminate the possibility of reinstalling potentially incompatible software from your existing Mac or its TM backup. It's best to create new printer queues and preferences anyway.
Your venerable HP 1012 will probably work without any difficulty but if you need its driver download it here. If it gives you trouble try OS X's generic PostScript driver.
After configuring your user account, install original versions of your essential software from their original sources. In other words if you installed them via download from the developer's website, download them again. You might need license keys so gather them. Obviously the Mac App Store makes things easy since anything you obtain from there is already linked to your Apple ID and is easily reinstalled by going to your Purchases page.
Don't reinstall things like AppCleaner, CleanMyMac, Western Digital "Smartware" or any of that junk. You don't need it. MacFUSE is outdated. Research Prolific Technology for potential updates for their serial controller. The one you have may work, or not, but you should re-download its driver.
Consider abandoning Microsoft altogether and migrating to better solutions such as Pages, Numbers, and Keynote. They are all free with a purchase of a new Mac and are far more integrated with OS X than anything Microsoft will ever be able to accomplish.
The Burr-Brown USB device is unknown to me, so research TI's website for support if you need it.
If your essential software was distributed on optical media, you can use OS X's "DVD or CD sharing" feature to remotely mount the older iMac's optical drive so that you can install its software. It will work as though that drive were physically installed on your new Mac. Having said that, anything that was distributed on optical media is highly likely to have been outdated a long time ago.
If your essential software is old, orphaned, no longer supported, or is no longer available, meaning you have the only viable copy, the only option is to transfer it from the TM backup or older Mac. In that case be very cognizant of the likelihood for incompatibility, and have a plan for uninstalling it should it cause adverse effects. Creating a new TM backup is the way to do that. A new external HD dedicated to the new Mac is a cheap investment. When you are certain you no longer require the older Mac's TM backup, you can erase it and use it as an additional, redundant TM backup or "clone" repository – whichever you decide is best for your backup needs. -

Why am I getting fonts issues after upgrading to Mavericks?
After upgrading to Mavericks, many webpages display fonts as dingbats like characters (see attached screenshot).
Copy/pasting the URL into a new tab seems to fix the problem sometimes, but not always.
The issues seems to happen more in chrome, but also in safari.
I've checked issues in fontbook and emptied the font cache, but nothing seems to work.Hi!
An screenshot would be helpful. In any case, you are already asking a question, so if you please. Answer here and we can try to help you. -
Wifi problem with Mac after upgrade to Mavericks
I just upgraded to Mavericks but something wrong with my wifi.
i can get internet through LAN link from Airport but not through wifi even i can receive an IP address
i tried connect to hotspot with my iphone5s and it works.
Other devices can use wifi just fine through Airport, just not my Mac using Mavericks
In conclusion,
Airport should be fine because my other devices works.
Mac wifi should be fine too because i can connect using hotspot.
so why it's not working when i connect Mac to Airport?I was having problems connecting to Wifi with my Macbook Pro (!2010), after upgrading to Mavericks. I was on the phone repeateadly with AT&T because I have Uverse. Testing everything (channels, signal strength) and had techs come out to check the line, ports, switches, etc. When I hardwired the Mac into the Uverse router, it worked fine. This rulled out any problems with the line in.
I considered getting a repeater but then I read that repeaters are not really good and it is better to reconfigure a router to act as an access point on the network. Plunked down about $80 for a Belkin AC750 router at Best Buy. In the setup it has an option to set it up as an access point only. Clicked that, connected it to my Motorola NVG510 Uverse modem and then connected to the Belkin router from my Mac. Voila! It's been a solid 11+ Mbs ever since (my plan maxes at 12Mbs). Connection is still solid and life if good even though it ***** to plunk down another $80 for a second router. But it was worth it just to get rid of the headaches.
I think the wifi capabilities of the Motorola NVG510 modem are the cause of a lot of problems with AT&T Uverse issues, particularly for Mac owners. I think it was also causing my Airport Expresses to drop occasionally.... Few minutes of music then drop... music drop.... All gone now.
I don't know if you are on Uverse but if so, I highly recommend configuring a second router as an acces point (it can be any old router you still might have - the setup is just a bit trickier because you have to do it manually).
Good luck.
