After upgrade to OS 4, my 3GS display twice normal size

I installed iTunes 9.2 and downloaded OS 4.0 for my 3GS, then installed it. Now I can't use the phone because the 3GS display is apparently the wrong resolution for the new OS. I can see only the centre half of the screen. How do I fix this?

Double-tap using three fingers to un-zoom, and then go to Settings -> General -> Accessibility -> Zoom and tap the Zoom On/Off switch.
If you have trouble with that. connect to iTunes and click the "Configure Universal Access" button in the Summary pane and turn off Zoom there.

  • Battery life gone after "upgrading" to 4.3 (iPhone 3GS)

I've lost all battery life after upgrading last night to ios 4.3! I barely get 5-6 hours, whereas I always got a full day (probably two if i let it run down) before the upgrade. I can't believe this is a coincidence. How do I go back to 4.2? Or is there a cure for this?

OK, problem solved, with the help of Apple Support.
They suggested that I re-install the upgrade using Restore on iTunes. So I backed-up the iPhone, did a Restore to factory settings, and then restored all the apps, music etc from the back-up. The phone was fully charged 8 hours ago now, and has gone down to 80% with some occasional use .... this is typical for my 3GS. So: "Restore to Factory Settings" worked. Don't ask me why!

  • Many functions lost after upgrading to OS5 on iPhone 3GS

Recently, I've upgraded my OS for my iPhone 3GS to OS5 version, and many of the useful, or rather basic function on the default iphone apps are gone.
For example, firstly, the symbol in the calendar app is missing, and I could no longer add an event or activities when I open the calendar overview application. Although, there is a new app called "Reminders" which came with the new OS5 version, I could only input one alert reminder, which in the past I could create two alerts to alert me twice (different day/time count-down) for the coming event activity.
Second, the "Contacts" application. Likewise, same issue with that of the calendar app, the symbol too was missing and no longer available to add new contacts. I have to open up the "Phone" app, and had go onto the recent calls tab to create a new contact. Another added bug for the "Contact" application, is that when I select on any of my contact in the phonebook, the "Edit" is no longer available too. It used to have it there...now I can't edit anything or add any further information of a particular contact, not to mention delete/ remove it too.
Third, I heard the new OS5 is able to allow 3GS iPhones to function/ act as a router for internet tethering when personal hotspot is turned on. But it seemed like, it only works on iPhone 4 and above.
Fourth, I used to be able to set to manual synch whenever I plug my phone to my comp, but I can no longer do so as the iTunes does not automatically open when I plug my iPhone into my comp. I had to tick the "open iTunes when iPhone is connected", but it automatically synch my phone and backup the data when I wanted to manually choose to do it like before selecting through the "File" in the top menu.
So far, these are the major basic problems I've encountered. Would Apple please dedug and resolve these problem ASAP??? I am getting pretty impatient after have feedback to Apple since 3 weeks ago after the upgrade, yet no new OS updates is been available to resolve the bugs..

    How about it Apple "Gurus"
Well, it would seem that the issue here is that iOS4 is not properly reading the backup that was created before the update. Or the backup is not being created in a properly formatted manner. There are just too many cases of a post upgrade issue being solved by restoring as a new phone for it not to be bad data.
Pain in the hiney, I know. And this is nothing new. All the way back through the iPhone's iPod roots, there has alway been a point in the troubleshooting tree that comes down to "restore the iPod". Just a more awkward thing now that the iPod has evolved into a phone and is trying to keep any number of settings straight. Not to mention no one wants to take their phone down unless there is no other option.

  • Wifi  weird problem after upgrade on 4.1 (Iphone 3GS )

I have a strange wifi behaviour on my 3GS that appear just after the 4.1 upgrade
if i let the wifi connect overnight, it's not working anymore after some time
I see the networks around, i can connect, but no data goes thru
If i just reboot ( or respring sometime ) wifi work again ...
Is this because 4.1 is so buggy, or something else ?
dont want to loose hours to do a DFU restore for nothing
PS : As we pay so much for their stuff, if Apple could just work a little bit on the QUALITY of the code for iOS ? thx a lot

The IT group re-downloaded the compressor 4.1.1 app and it worked the second time around. Files sizes were exactly the same so I don't know what was up with the first attempt. Anyway, fixed!

  • Battery issue after upgrade to iOS 5 on 3GS

After the upgrade battery level goes from 100% to 0% in 5hrs basically in standby.  I have turned off push services, data connections, icloud...everything.  iPhone still drains battery and gets quite hot.  Any suggestions?

  • After upgrade to ios 5, my 3GS says unsupported SIM, what should I do:-(?please help.thanks

after I back up my datas through Itunes, I have an option to upgrade my software to ios 5, so I click on the upgrade button, wait til 20 minutes, and then my iphone starting restart and end up saying unsupported SIM. tried few times to turn my phone off and on but the result was the same, with the starting setting up language and ciuntry region, and then the wifi setting, but still unsupported SIM, what should I do, anyone can explain what's happening with my phone???thanks.

Was the device officially unlocked at some point or hacked to be unlocked?
Is the SIM from a supported carrier?
Sounds like the device was hacked to be unlocked and you're now trying to activate it with a SIM from a different carrier.  If it was hacked to be unlocked, upgrading has relocked the device to the original carrier.
Have you tried a different SIM from the carrier the device is locked to.

  • Does anyone know why after upgrading to Mavericks, Safari will not display PDF files, is there a solution?

I cannot get Safari to display PDF files, it shows a blank screen with the comment that Safri has blocked PDF, however when you unblock it still does not show the PDF, I have had to rely on Firefox for this, which I find not too good. Any help very much appreciated.

  • After upgrading to iOS4 on your 3GS, are you having battery & signal issues

I was having big problems with my battery life (10% per hour at best) and also signal dropping issues from time to time.
Last night though I solved all these problems... HOW ??
Via iTunes, restore your iPhone and select the option "as new iPhone" NOT from a backup. This option totally resets your iPhone (no music, videos, data, applications or games saves) but my iPhone was fully charged at 7.30am and now 10 hours later I still have 60% battery.
This now means that my iPhone can last the whole working day before going DEAD !!
Don't get me wrong the RESTORE is a pain but in the long run it looks like the only thing that will sort out your battery problems.
Good luck ... it worked for me !!

  • My display keeps changing to 800x600 after upgrade to 10.8.3

After upgrading to 10.8.3 my display keeps changing to 800x600 after it wakes up from sleep. I have to go to preferences and set again, and it works. It is quite annoying. Any clue.

    Not much to go on.
What monitor and connection method are you using with the mac Mini..?
Have you tried resetting the > NVRAM and PRAM
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    3. Turn on the computer.
    4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    6. Release the keys.

  • Shuffle function no longer works after upgrade.

After upgrading the software on my 3GS phone to 4.2.1 the shuffle function in the feature no longer worked. The same song played over and over again. The solution was super easy. On the home screen choose Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings. Unlike a restore none of your current data or media will be lost. Only took a couple of minutes. I had to set a few personal preference settings again like my ring tone and wallpaper, nothing major. Just a few taps and everything was back to normal. Hope this helps anyone having a problem after upgrading.

You could also tap the album artwork while the song is playing and turn repeat off.

Have you tried doing turning the battery level display off and then General -> "Reset all settings"? You won't loose any data and that should do the trick.

  • Car bluetooth not displaying contacts after upgrading to iOS4??

After upgrading my iphone 3GS to OS4.0, my 2010 Grand Cherokee will no longer display names when using the built in UConnect hands free bluetooth system. It worked fine before the upgrade. Now when I get a call, it will only show "incoming call" or a long string of numbers and letters. This is so frustrating! Fix this apple or let us downgrade until this can be fixed.

It may not be supported as of yet. The iOS4 just came out and not many searches are related to updating the UConnect standard. They are mostly related to the "MyGIG" UConnect version of equipment installed which are on the more expensive models (SRT8 for example).
You can contact Chrysler for more support information including the firmware update to allow iOS4 but they may not be able to answer your question for factory installation reasons.
