After upgrading new MacBook to 10.4.9, can't VPN

I recently upgraded from my PPC MacMini to an Intel MacBook. Since the laptop came with 10.4.8, the first thing that happened was to upgrade to 10.4.9. Although I can get online (have a cable modem, and linksys wired router), but have been unable to access VPN at work since I've had the new system.
On my MacMini, I regularly got to the ssl VPN site, logged into the system, and then used remote desktop to access my PC in my office. No go, and I've been unable to find anything about this topic.
I may have copied over Safari from MacMini > MacBook (could that have broken things?). The symptom is that network connect Java doesn't seem to actually work. I've checked Java and it's set up to use either version. I can invoke Network connect manually (as opposed to through Safari), and I then get some weired message about Network Connect versions being different, but if I click the offered Update button, I'm in catch 22, because it can't connect to make the update. HELP....I need to work at home.

There aren't many Apple supplied PPC Apps you could/should copy over from the Mini, or even older HW to newer HW, did you copy the actual Safari.app?
Might want to do a Fresh Install of the OS.

Reset the PRAM > About NVRAM and PRAM
Those instructions are for Mavericks but will work on Yosemite as well.
Then try the USB modem.

Interesting bug. I'm cautiously optimistic this will get rid of the weekly annoyance. The difference is that I bought my laptop back in Feb 2015, so it came with Yosemite. I think the issue may have appeared soon after an OS update not long after I got the thing, though. I was using a sudo command in the Terminal, but that is obviously not a fix.
I wonder if there is a broken .plist file that may be fixed ...?

i have done the same activity ( buy a new iphone 4 -> upgrade to ios5 - > configure email) with success-
than when i start to move the contacts from old mobile to iphone (using the microsim) i receive the same crash
in disgnosis e use i saw 2 dump with this title 'latestCrash-Preferences.plist and LatestCrash.plist. in each file the date is the same and i read:

After upgrading to FF 3.6.12 I can no longer view PHP pages from my hard drive.

After upgrading to version 3.6.12 I can no longer open PHP web pages from my hard drive. When I create or edit web pages I view them from my hard drive first before uploading, as many webmasters do to look for errors before taking them live.
I can view PHP pages online, but from my hard drive it just spawns endless empty tabs. Instead of just opening the page it asked me what to open it with, thinking the PHP web page is a script.
It was working fine before the upgrade. I had a page open that I wanted to edit, which it reopened when my browser restarted.
Then I edited the page. All I did was add a link to it. Then I hit the refresh button to see the change and instead of reloading the page, FF asked me what to do with the PHP script, prompting me to save it or choose what program to open it with.
I selected to view it with FF and it just spawned endless tabs. They wouldn't stop. Had to shut down FF and it probably had 40 tabs opened with nothing on them. I tried other PHP pages from my hard drive that opened fine before, but it did the same thing with them.
I tried finding help online and I see others have had the same problem, but no solution was offered that worked. I tried rebooting, same story, it wants to know what to do with the PHP script.
I'm being forced to use another browser, so I'm going to go download Chrome now. If this probably isn't fixed soon I'll simply give up on FF. It's not worth the aggravation. I can't tell you how much TIME I've wasted today -- HOURS.
Very disappointed.

Thanks for the reply. It doesn't have to process the php, it just has to show the HTML content. It did that just fine before the last upgrade but won't now.

It doesn't help. The things it says to look for aren't there for me, specifically:
browser.download.pluginOverrideTypes
plugin.disable_full_page_plugin_for_types
I followed the rest of the instructions but it didn't help.
I did get it to quit opening tabs, instead it prompts me what it should do with the file every time now. What it should do, and used to do, is open the php page and display the HTML content.
Any other ideas?

Following ultimately helped me : Make sure that you are logged in at the App Store App or iTunes App with your apple ID and password with a US account. Turn your iPad off and on and than you should see the Radio button again. It won't work if you are logged on with a foreign account. If you are not logged in at all, it worked, too.

Do it with a Firewire cable (buy a 800/400 adapter if you need it) - the USB transfer takes a much longer time.
Start up your old PowerMac G4 holding down the "T" key, for target disk mode.
On your new MacBook Pro open "Migration Assistant" in your utilities folder.
Connect the 2 computers by firewire cable and follow the prompts in Migration Assistant.

Newbie here so please go easy!
My problem is that after upgrading my iPad 2 to iOS5 I can't access the mail, contacts, calendars option from general settings or even from the Mail program. This is therefore preventing me from setting up anymore than one e-mail account.
Do I need to do a system reset / restore? If so how do I do a system reset in particular?
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for reply. Sorry for delay in responding, for some reason I wasn't able to respond using my iPad so am using my iPhone.
The restrictions have not been enabled at all, so I assume that this should not really make a difference. I also have an iPhone 4 and have upgraded this to iOS5 but have no issues accessing the Mail, Contacts, Calendar option from general settings. This also does not have restrictions enabled therefore appears to have the same setup as my iPad but with no problems.
