After upgrading to 11.1.2 (31), 'Pause' skips forward a second

Hi, Apple Community!
I'm a journalist, so I spend a lot of my day transcribing. I record either on my iPhone, or with a Belkin dictaphone attachment for a beaten-up old iPod, and then import the file into iTunes. From there, I can manually transcribe the audio into text by listening to a phrase, hitting 'play/pause' on the keyboard, typing it out, then moving onto the next.
But since upgrading to Mavericks - and iTunes 11.1.2 (31), pausing causes the track to skip forward a little over a second. It might seem like a little thing, but this means I miss one or two words and have to rewind the audio every time. It makes what's already a pretty irritiating task another degree more irritating.
How can I fix this? Or can Apple fix this? It's doing my head in!
Thanks, Wondergeeks!
Tim

It's a bummer. As an interim fix, however, I've found that VLC plays and pauses perfectly well without skipping forward - and has the added bonus of being able to slow down playback speed.

  • After upgrading to the most recent version of iTunes, for the second time now, I have completely lost all of my playlists and some of my music

I have upgraded to the current version of iTunes 12.0.1.26
I am using Windows 7 Premium
I have lost all of my previous playlists and some of my music
This is the second time this has happened when advised of an updated version.
How can I get all my music and playlists back without having to redo them again?

    Hello richmondhill49,
The article linked below details a number of steps that may help restore your content and playlists to iTunes.

  • T450S: After upgrading main drive to SSD drive, do not see the second pre-installed SSD drive

Hello gurus, I replaced the HD with Samsung 500GB SSD, and have been loving it.  However, ever since I did that, I do not see the 2nd pre-installed 15GB SANDISK SSD Drive anymore in the explorer.    Anyone know what I can do to make the second drive be recognizable by the computer?   This is potentially a related problem but I also have trouble installing Windows 10, because it says it can't find a partition.  Can I use the second SSD drive as the partition for the install?

This smaller SSD is designed to use software and be a cache drive. It wouldn't show in File Explorer. You can check Device Manager.

  • After upgrading to 3.1 iPod pausing/playing is screwed up

Whenever you pause the iPod the icon next to the battery is supposed to turn into the pause button and remain there. However after upgrading to 3.1 whenever I pause the song the icon disappears and when I double click the home button it goes from whatever app/thing I am currently doing and goes straight to the ipod app.
    Is anyone else experiencing this?

I just checked my 3G iPhone (updated to 3.1 on Wed) and I am experiencing the same thing. Not only that but my (Sony) earbuds now ONLY output to the left side. I thought the headphones were about to crap out on me (they are at least 2 years old), but when I tested them on my wife's iPhone (still on 3.0) they worked fine. has anyone experienced that? WIll Apple put out another update anytime soon? And, one of my favorite apps will not register all touch commands (although that is probably a developer issue)... just tested my Apple earbuds that came with the iPhone and the stereo works fine, but I hate those. Waahh!

It is not uncommon to experience performance problems following an upgrade when there are issues with original query.  Non-sargable expressions like Olaf called out are often the culprit, as well as lack of useful indexes and statistics.
The optimizer cannot glean accurate row count estimates or use indexes efficiently so the resultant plan may not be optimal for the task at hand.  It is only by happenstance that old plan performed better; it could just as well be the other way around,
but again only by chance since the optimizer is guessing.
You might also try using EXISTS instead of SELECT COUNT(*)...= 0:
    AND EXISTS(SELECT *
    FROM dbo.roostermutaties AS RM2
    WHERE P.ID_personen = ID_personen
    AND GR.ID_groepsroosters = ID_groepsroosters

    ELSE COALESCE (RM.nieuweBegintijd, GR.begintijd) END, 108)
    AND CONVERT(VARCHAR(8), eindtijdafwezig, 108) = CONVERT(VARCHAR(8), CASE WHEN GR.ID_lokaties = 3 THEN COALESCE (RM.nieuweEindtijd,
    CASE WHEN GR.Tijdspan = 2 THEN R.eindtijd2 ELSE R.eindtijd END) ELSE COALESCE (RM.nieuweEindtijd, GR.eindtijd) END, 108))

  • Regular pauses on MacBook Pro 13-inch after upgrading to Lion

    Hi,
Ever since I upgraded to Lion my MacBook Pro 13-inch (Core 2 Duo) regularly pauses every hour or so; each pause lasts about 5 seconds, and during this time I see the spinning ball and my external HD (which I use for Time Machine) spins up. I also notice that opening certain applications take a longer time (spinning up my external drive); perhaps loading my previously loaded files? I never had this problem in Snow Leopard, but I regularly have this problem now. Any ideas on how to stop the pauses from happening?
    Thanks!

    Finally resolved...
It's because of the fact that my mbp is too old to be upgraded to lion ...
Although I've seen successful experiences of upgrading mbp 895 (manufactured by the end of 2007) to lion, it's a disaster due to random death halt according to my experiences..
It seems 10.7.4 could be OK since I have met no problems for more than one week, however, when upgrading to 10.7.5, the death halt happened every half an hour, while even if I downgraded to 10.7.4, it doen't help, while when I continuously downgraded to snow leopard 10.6.8, it works normally.

  • [SOLVED] Key characters wrong after upgrade

Using Sony Vaio Pro after upgrade to 3.11.1-1-ARCH I can only type some keys while holding down "Fn" key. Seems my keymap is incorrect.
e.g when i type the 'p' key i get '*'. I have to hold 'Fn' key to get the 'p'. But 'd' wont display anything at all when 'Fn' is pressed. Very hard to type
    However:
    arch# localectl status
    System Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8
    VC Keymap: us
    X11 Layout: n/a
It happens at login and also in X. I boot to console (tty1), login then I use
    startx
    to run Fluxbox.
    vconsole.conf
    arch# cat vconsole.conf

bump. Really need some help on this
Since last post I found and read a number of posts relating to HOOKS. Mr Elendig got me thinking that it wasn't an X issue but a system issue.
    So....
I put 'keyboard' and 'keymap' hook both before and after 'autodetect' in mkinitcpio.conf and ran
    # mkinitcpio -p linux
    That didn't work.
I implemented an ~/.Xmodmap file and updated my ~/.Xinitrc according to the wiki.
    That didn't work in Fluxbox.
I changed keyboard to 'fr' then back to 'us' both in console and in vconsole.conf.
    That didn't work
    BUT THEN.....I added
    FONT_MAP=8859_to_uni
to my vconsole.conf 'rebooted' and everything worked!! Awesome, right? No.
    Because then I
    # poweroff
and turned on again and came back to the tty login prompt and the keys were wrong again.
    I removed
    FONT_MAP=8859_to_uni
from vconsole.conf, rebooted, then put it back in, rebooted and there was no change.
    I then added
    FONT_MAP=8859_to_uni
to the boot prompt line before booting.
    That didn't work.
I also read a post where someone created the LiveUSB on a different computer and this was thought to be the cause of some of their problems after they upgraded the 'linux' pacakge using 'pacman'. I created my LiveUSB on a Fedora 19 system. Not sure if that could be the problem.
Last night I upgraded to Linux 3.11.3-1-ARCH in a hope against hope that would sort things out.
    It didn't
I'm new to Linux and have learnt a lot through my Arch Linux install which has been great. I really would like to avoid a fresh install using an Arch Linux created LiveUSB but at the moment that's what I'm looking at unless someone can help me out.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Ipod music missing after upgrading to 5.0 os

After upgrading to 5.0 os on my iphone 4 I have had several problems...
    1. all my contacts disappeared and then started to reappear when I would open General > Mail, Contacts, Calendars and then change the Sort Order and then change it back to what I wanted I did this like 3 times and then all my contacts were back
    2. It keeps freezing while I am in an app, typing a text, doing just about anything
    3. Alot of my music is gone, like the album work is there, the name of the song, the name of the artist but when you go to click to play it, it automatically jumps to the next song or it will play the next song on the list while still showing the other songs album work, title and artist
    4. in the ipod the "play triangle" is always there, whether it is playing or not so to pause the music I have to hit the play triangle 3 times before it will stop
this is my problem list so far and I have only had the new os for 3 days....i am afraid as to what more time will show
as for now I am going to try re-sync my phone and maybe it will fix some of the quirks...i already tried a reset and it did not fix the problems...

  • After upgrading to Snow Leopard - multimedia keys not controling itunes

After I upgraded to SL all the special keys( Brightness control, Volume control etc.) are working perfectly, excpet for the media controls (rewind, play\pause, forward). They used to control itunes in Leopard, but now I'm lost without them.
    I tried:
    - Upgrading to itunes 9 - didn't help.
    - Upgrading to 10.6.1 - didn't help.
    - Unchecked "Use all F1,F2, etc. keys as standard function keys" - didn't help.
    - Restored my keyboard shortcuts to default.
I should also mention that the play\pause button does not start itunes as I have read it does for other people after upgrading to SL.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Do those same keys work OK otherwise, in other apps? Have you tried the same thing with a USB keyboard?
Try resetting some of the hardware that may be involved. See this Apple KB for details, etc.:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
Can't hurt to try, and apparently this has helped others recently.

  • ASA5510 VPN not working after upgrade from 8.2 to 8.3

    Hi,
I have recently upgraded a customer ASA5510 to version 8.3.
After upgrade web access etc is working fine however VPN is down.
The config looks very different after the upgrade plus what looks to be duplicate entries.
I suspect its an access list issue but I'm not sure.
If anyone has any ideas based on the config below it would be greatly appreciated as I'm at a loss....?!

    Hi,
    Many thanks for your reply.
Finally got access to implement your suggestions.
Initially none of the VPN's were up.
After making the change the two VPN's came up.
However only data via the first VPN is possible.
Accessing resources on the 10.1.2.0 network is still not possible.
    Attached is the latest config, any input is greatly appreciated;

  • Web Query (.iqy) not working in Excel after upgrade to 11.1.1.6

After upgrade 11.1.1.5 to 11.1.1.6, the Web Query (.iqy) does not work. After open the .iqy file in Excel, entered the user and password, it only pulls in "PK" in one cell, instead of the expected analysis report. This was working in 11.1.1.5 before upgrade.
Does anyone know how to correct this issue? Is this a bug in 11.1.1.6, or required some new configuration settings?
    Thanks in advance.

  • I cannot update apps after upgrading to Yosemite. Please Help!

    Hello,
After upgrading to Yosemite, i wanted to go on to iMovie, but i have to update. So i try to update but it refuses and tells me: "This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled."
So what i understand is because i bought this mac in the US and I'm using it in the UK its not letting me update it. But what i don't understand is that i was able to upgrade to Yosemite with my mac knowing i was in the UK.
How can i update my applications?
    Thank you for your time,
    TOAOMA

Perform the following, stopping with the first one which works:
    1. Open the Mac App Store's Purchases tab. If you're prompted to accept it and the other iLife/iWork applications into your Apple ID, do so.
    2. Move them out of the Applications folder(they may need to be put into the Trash temporarily), and then see if you can download them for free from their individual product pages. If you're asked to buy them, see #3.
    3. Click here, contact Apple, and wait for a response.
    4. Buy them.
