After upgrading to 2.6.28, any Nvidia drivers == CRASH

I finally did an update to my system, and now with 2.6.28, No matter which nvidia drivers I use, things work fine in Xorg for an indeterminent amount of time, then all the sudden, my screens blank and the box is completely unresponsive to ping.  At this point, touching the keyboard causes beeps.  Presumably the kernel has paniced.
I've tried nvidia-180.29-3, nvidia-173xx (173.14.17-2) nvidia-96xx(96.43.11-2) as well as getting nvidia drivers directly from nvidia's site, doing an uninstall through here, etc.  I know the issue is related to nvidia, since when I switch to vesa, the problem goes away.
Interestingly, the crash always seems to happen as a result of me typing on the keyboard.  For example, I will be using mutt in an mrxvt terminal, and as soon as I hit 'j' or 'backspace' the box crashes.  It never crashes when just using the mouse or not as the result of typing.  Of course, this only happens after around 30 minutes or so, as I am using this setup right now and typing is working fine.
Presumably the rest of the Arch community isn't hitting this or it would have been addressed by now.  My device is:

Actually I was wrong, this isn't a kernel panic, and may not even be related to Nvidia.
Xorg just plain crashes, and it does seem to be in keyboard handling code:

Where can I get symbols to debug this?  Or is there way to just run Xorg inside gdb from the start?

Did you do an erase and install of Mt Lion? In any case you'll have to reinstall iWeb from its original source.  Did iWeb come with your computer?  If so you should have a couple of disks that came with your Mac and one of them will have the Bundled Software Install package on it.  Like one of these:
Be sure to update iWeb to the latest and last version, 3.0.4, from Apple Downloads web page.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I deleted some of the old stuff that showed up on the report (have removed virtual box long ago but some residual files were apparently left). It didn't help though. Will remove forticlient too as a test.

This obviously points to the Nvidia drivers crashing, but why? I'm currently using an Nvidia GTX 460 768MB in my Mac Pro, and I've never had this problem with any other applications. It seems to only be Bridge.

And you are assuming that the 460 will be supported of course which is not a given. The 570 and 670 seems to be okay and some use GTX 4xx but they also realized it can be iffy for support.

Does anyone have any suggestion on how to get iPhoto to work (after grading to OX Yosemite).  Everything works fine, but I upgrading iPhoto and it keeps saying it needs to be upgraded.??  Please help.

I have similar problem. After upgrading to Yosemite I have somme errors on iPhoto (repair permissions) and when I try to modifie library iPhoto on informations I have an error -8036. The solution provided by Apple Support is clean PRAM. Start your Mac with alt+cmd when the screen becomes grey push on P and R. Stay until the start sound play two times.Normally this solution resolve the problem. Its an old solution, I do it in 1986 for the first time. I apologize for my poor English but I am french and I don't know an other language.

  • After upgrading to iOS4.1 there any green points problem at camera?

I was also had the green circle problem in take photo at the iphone4
If the ios4.0.2 after upgrading to ios4.1 , will not have this problem occur?
    have anyone know that ?
    thank you

No, the GM is not an unannounced public release. GMs are still beta and just for developers. All Gold Master means is the feature set is finalized but it can still have minor changes and bug fixes prior to release.
If it were an actual public release, you could get it from iTunes rather than torrent sites.

  • After upgrading to Lion, ITunes will not open without crashing.

Upgraded the MacBook to Lion and now ITunes crashes everytime I try to open it.  It gives an unknown error message (-45054).  any ideas?

Make sure you've installed all of the available OS X Lion and iTunes updates.
If you aren't sure how to update, see this -> OS X: Updating OS X and Mac App Store apps

  • After upgrading to iOS 8.2, my iTunes store crashing after selecting 'Films'.

When I open iTunes store and select 'Films', iTunes store crashes while loading. It is working fine on Music, Search, Tones filters. I think it started happening after upgrading OS to iOS 8.2.
    I am on wi-fi.

    Hello Wexxwoxx,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that after you updated to iOS 8.2, while typing a message your iPhone seems to be locking itself. In this situation, there are a couple of different troubleshooting steps that I would recommend.
First, I would suggest closing the Messages application completely by using the instructions in the attached article below.
Force an app to close in iOS - Apple Support
After the Messages app is closed, I would recommend resetting your iPhone using the instructions in the next attached article. After the reset, open Messages fresh and attempt to use as you normally would.
Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
    Have a great day,
    Joe

  • MBPr Nvidia Drivers Crashing in Windows 7 (64-bit) False graphic switch?

    Hey Guys
This is my first posting here because I simply don't know what to do anymore. Yesterday I was playing Borderlands 2 on my MBPr 2.3ghz version with every thing setting on high (Physx and AO turned off or low) and resolution of 1680x1050 and it runs at 60fps constantly.
Later on, I checked my desktop and saw a notification that my Nvidia Drivers has stopped working and after that all my 3D applications were slower. Borderlands 2 only ran at 20 frames now with the same settings and other games just didnt run so well anymore.
I have tried updating my Nvidia drivers and I also tried rolling back to an older driver but the results remain the same. The notification of the drivers crashing has vanished because I wanted to archieve the message but when I wanted to see my stored archieved messages it wasn't there.
My computer still shows that I do have an Nvidia Geforce 650m and according to other sources the Intel HD Graphics cannot be used in bootcamp but I have a strong feeling it did switch to it.

UPDATE: I fixed this issue by reseting the SMC! Hope this helps if anyone else had this issue!

  • After upgrading I can't open any emails in my lotus notes

I log into my work lotus notes email from my home using mail.mutualofomahabank.com. I have never had a problem in the past. It worked great. Now that I upgraded muy mozilla once into my lotus notes and go to open an email I get an error message and the email will not open. I had no trouble prior to upgrading. I tried to uninstall Mozilla and re-install, but the same version installs and the same problem happens. How do I fix this or revert back the the old version on Mozilla?

What is the error message that you get?
What versions of Firefox did you have before and after?
When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
    (1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
    (2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:
    * right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    * Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

  • Lightroom 3 sliders lose color shading after upgrade to Mavericks...any help?

Just recently upgraded to Mavericks OS on Mac, but now finding that the coloring of the sliders (for example in the Hue, Saturation, Luminance module) is gone.  This is really annoying as I cannot see what the color will look like unless I actually move the sliders.  Does anyone know how to fix this?
    Thanks

Known issue with LR on OS X Mavericks
    http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/sliders-lightroom-all-white-look.html
Only solution Adobe currently offer is to upgrade the LR5.2 where it is fixed (but not in earlier versions).
