After upgrading to 7.1 iTunes does not recognize iPad device

I upgraded iPad to system 7.1.  I got a message to connect to my iMac and iTunes by my USB cable, which I did.
iTunes no longer recognizes the iPad wirelessly and does not recognize it even when attached byUSB cable.
My iPhone (4.2.1) is recognized by cable.
Any suggestions?
Bryan Davis

Thank you, I tried uninstalling the device driver to reinstall again. After doing the scan for hardware changes, nothing flashes on the device manager. I dont see anything related to the IPAD or any other device for which driver shows unidentified device. It is as though the device is not being seen by the computer at all..
I even tried flashing the home/sleep buttons together but that doesnt seem to identify any device either.
Anything else I am missing?

    Hi there janis831,
It sounds like your device may be stuck in Recovery Mode. Take a look at the article below for how to restore your device.

I have a similar problem with the iPhone. Tried everything you can think of and then some. There is apparently some devastating bug 7.6 introduced into normal USB device recognition. I've been able to force the phone into recovery mode; the boot recovery USB driver does still work. Restoring the phone every time I need to sync is both scary and time-consuming.

You shouldn't be running the "preview" anymore. Microsoft released the full 8.1 update last Friday (10/18).
The "preview" is a beta and should NOT be relied on for any further use. Microsoft explained this in their "preview" downloads.

Hello I had a similar experience and searched and searched the forums until I came across this fix, I manually updated the apples drivers manually myself rather than letting windows find them, for me this worked. I tried everything in the book and I mean everything, as soon as I updated my itunes program to the newest version and tried to plug in my iphone my computer would not recognize my device nor would it show up in itunes, I don't know if this will help anyone else or if I have posted this in the right place but it worked for me, I did not have to disable any of my spyware or uninstall itunes just followed the instructions in the link below and pretso it worked, so far so good it is early days and I am yet to try my ipad 2 using this way so hopefully it will work I had the same problem with both devices on my computer after the new update...mine all came down to the drivers on my windows xp and the new update from itunes hope this helps someone else as well.

I also followed a very old thread (sorry I can not find this thread anymore) from a few years ago that helped ....THANK YOU TO THE PERSON WHO POSTED IT YEARS AGO IN SOME FORUM
I went to device manager and found my iphone in a heading under others generally it show up in the heading under usb controller if installed correctly (why it showed up here in the first place I have no idea, it was also showing iphone with a yellow question mark I then highlighted the iphone then clicked up the top of the screen to update drivers
Welcome to hardware wizard pops up I clicked no not this time then next
I choose to install from a specific location I then clicked on browse to find the file C:\ Program Files\Common Files\Apple\ Mobile Device Support Drivers then clicked next I waited 30 seconds before plugging my iphone back into my usb and presto  my phone showed up in itunes and on the computer by manually updating the drivers myself..Good Luck I really hope this helps someone else and if it does could we please pass the fix along as this drove me nuts for days....

When my PC and ipad2 are cinnecting via wifi at the same router in my house, which allows up to 5 connection, itunes does not see ipad2.

You can only connect your iPad to your computer's iTunes via the provided cable - you cannot sync content wirelessly from iTunes. You can do home sharing to your iPad via wifi, but not syncing iTunes content.

  • After installing Leopard and combo iTunes does not recognize iPod Touch

Hi, probably this question has been asked somewhere, but I can't find it. Given that after upgrading to Leopard and the combo, my iPod is seen in iTunes, but my iPod Touch does not show up in iTunes. The answer seems to be to reinstall iTunes, if I do that, will the reinstall keep my fine iTunes music library? thanks, e_moma

Most people in this situation seem to have to re-install iTunes. iTunes the application resides in the Applications folder. Your music resides in ~/Music/iTunes/ and will not be affected by re-installing the application.
Of course you have a good back-up on an external drive anyway - right(?)
