Ouch, if it is indeed damaged, then sadly you need to restore the whole danged huge OS!
Didn't used to be this way before Lion/10.7.
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
If that doesn't help Reinstall the OS.

Since I upgraded to Yosemite, Image Capture does not combine pages in to one PDF document

Ever since I upgraded my OS to Yosemite, in my Intel iMac, I have not been able to combine the scanned multiple pages of a document into one PDF file using Image Capture, even though the option to combine pages is checked off. It makes multiple PDF files of these pages. Furthermore, I have even tried to use Preview to combine these individual pages into one document and save it into one file but it will only save one page. Is anyone else having the same problem? If so has anyone found a solution to this problem? Please help. It was wonderful to be able to do this in Maverick. Thanks.

HT1338 Upgraded to Lion. IWork does not work. How do I fix this?

I increased the size of my hard drive to 1TB and upgraded from Snow Lepord to Lion. iWorks 09' (keynote, pages, numbers) and iPhoto do not work. I have used software updated and everything is current.
Is there a patch of something else I need to do to make them compatible?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
Step 1
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Post the messages from the time of the last crash, if any — the text, please, not a screenshot.

Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". I upgraded to 7.8 today after having poor quality voice on previous version (I have a 20 mb/s connection). However I now have the problem when connected to a call system that clicks on the keypad, although apparently generating a tone, are not being recognised at the far end. I cannot therefore get to the person I need to via the call centre and have had to resort to a normal (and expensive) international call.

The disk folder you're describing sounds a lot like the Windows Favorites folder. That's actually completely independent from Firefox's bookmark storage.
After your upgrade, did you freshly install Firefox? In that case, the problem might be an incomplete import of your Windows Favorites (IE Favorites) instead of an incomplete recovery of your old Firefox bookmarks.
To see whether you still have your Firefox bookmarks, in your backup -- for example, the C:\Windows.old\ folder, or a backup on external media -- could you try to track down a folder named '''bookmarkbackups'''. By default, this is hidden folder, so you may need to turn on viewing of hidden files and folders. This article has the steps: [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/show-hidden-files].
Let me know what you find and then I can suggest next steps.

Reset password does not work even though it says it has been reset

I bought apps under a previous user ID that was subsequently changed to my mobileme ID when I joined iCloud. Now the apps purchased under the old ID can not update. I have reset the password under the old ID several times and each time get the reply that my password was successfully reset, but still can't log into my account under the old ID and can't update those apps. i barely got this two days ago. i cannot use internet explorer as it says something is wrong with my connection. thats a lie! its working perfectly. luckliy, i downloaded google chrome before i had this problem. how do i fix it?

That is easy you have the same Internet Explorer as I do. Left click on the lock washer icon then select Internet Options. When window opens click on advance tab then click on Reset and then ok. You are all set now. It should restore the Internet Explorer to orginal settings. If that doesn't work for some unknown reason go to your control pannel some where you should be able to unstall programs on your computer. Internet Explorer is an update so you want to look for it in update section not programs list. Un install and down load a nother copy. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/search#q=internet+explorer You have to unistall the corrupted one first. Other wise the down load page will say you have the latest version installed. frrw.

Its just Apple's system. They won't charge you so I wouldn't worry about giving them the billing information.

Plug in my iPhone to Mac; image capture does not appear

Software OS X 10.8.5 (12F45) on MacBook Pro
iPhone: Version 7.1 (Is it an iPhone 5: LOL… I don't know! It's the newer taller, round one!)
When I plug in my iPhone to my MacBook… my pictures do not load like usual.
(Same thing when I put in a photo card)
Sometimes the device will appear; but import is not an option to select.
EVEN if I change the parameters down on the bottom left to Image Capture, iPhoto, etc.
Usually, my phone will appear on the left hand side and I am able to click Import.
However; this time NOTHING happens.
Can someone please help?
All the directions I have read through (dozens!) for the last 5 hours do not give the step on what to do IF the Image Capture does not work.
Same thing in iPhoto. Nothing. Nada.
I have plugged and replugged.
Tried different cords.

It sounds like there is an issue importing photos with multiple devices and applications on your Mac. The article linked below provides a lot of great tips that may resolve the issue, like taking a screenshot to ensure there is a new photo to be imported since the previous import.

I have two Canon Scanners, a Canoscan 8800F and a Canoscan LiDE 60. Image Capture does not recognize either of these. Both worked with Mountain Lion.

Image Capture does not recognize my Canon Pixma MP150 printer

Image Capture does not recognize my Canon Pixma MP150 printer since I upgraded to Mavericks.

To scan with Image Capture you need an ICA driver. Looking through the CanonDevices list in the /Library/Image Capture folder I cannot see an entry for the MP150. And I checked Canon Australia's web site and there is no ICA driver for the MP150. There is a scanner driver and MP Navigator for OS X 10.7. You may be able to install and use the driver and application on 10.9, although you will have to get past Gatekeeper to install both items as they are not digitally signed. To do this, you can hold down the Control key and click on the installer. A pop-up menu will appear and you can select Open. You will then be able to install the driver and then the application. If they do install then see if you can open MP Navigator and scan from the MP150.

TS1501 Image Capture does not launch when I connect my iPhone to my iMac and open iPhoto. No "Prefernces" is offered under Image Capture. I cannot import photos to iPhoto.

This helped me. It is advice I found from a user named Carlosmara. First make sure iPhoto is closed and your iPhone is not connected. Then, as Carlosmara stated in his post,
"Go to your Library/preferences and delete the file com.apple.iPhoto.plist
IPhoto should recognized the iPhone again."
The file in question is under your user folder.
I then restarted my mac and plugged in the iPhone so that it would sync. After the sync, when I opened iPhoto, my iPhone was recognized and I could download the photos perfectly.

After upgrading to Mavericks my iMac does not see Sony camcorder in iMovie anymore. It still works on MacBook, so nothing wrong with camera or connections.

After upgrading to Mavericks my iMac does not see my Sony camcorder anymore. I tried the new iMovie as well as the old version 9.0.9, which is still in Applications. I checked the camcorder and connections in iMovie on my MacBook (not upgraded) and that still functions properly, so the problem does not seem to be in iMovie, old or new, or in camcorder and connection.
Anybody with the same problem or a solution?

Extensions can sometimes be the cause of problems. If the problem does not occur in Safe Mode, then you can disable your extensions one-by-one until you find out which one is causing the problem. See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
