Unfortunately not. Lion has made many adjustments to the previous system. Try opening your pdfs in keynote.

    Gotcha, Bingo, Bazinga!
Moving the antivirus to trash does not delete or disable some parts of the application.
How to remove the remaining parts of the application depends on the application as the different AV-Systems place there parts at different places and use different preference files.
At first check if the AV is still listed in the startup items (System Settings - Accounts - your account - startup items) and remove them from that list.

  • Software upgrade shuts down windows at 'boot ROM"

I have tried multiple times to upgrade to 4.5 device software from the desktop manager. It always shuts down windows...showing a blue screen, locks up my phone until I remove the battery.....then restart my laptop and it says it recovered from a "fatal error". Tmobile  first told me to download latest version of desktop manager, which I did.  I still have the same problem, then they told me it is my computer and couldn't help me. I have Windows XP w/latest updates.  Anyone have any idea why this is happening? Thank you!

I am having this exact same problem my phone restarts when updating the software after boot ROM, then it says there has been a fatal error. it does this everytime i try update my software. so any help would be handy.

  • X240 No Power After Shutting Down Windows

I'm working on X240 Thinkpad which is not powering-up. After replacing the planar it booted but after shutting down Windows, it won't power-up again. I notcied that it powers on again after reseating all battery including the (CMOS battery), but is dead again once you shutdown windows. BIOS FW is updated and its passing the self test. Pressinng the reset button thru pin hole does not solve the issue. It always need resetting all battery (CMOS battery included). Problem does not occur when the thinkpad is not booted to windows and shutdown via power button only. Thanks in advance. Please note that the planar has been replaced for the 2nd time in the span of around 2 months.

I've had a similar problem with the laptop before this one. I could tell you to try to take the battery out and hold down the power button for 5 seconds and then put the battery back, but that probably won't work. I could tell you to hold down the altcommandp or o and try to reset the ram, but that won't work. Your issue sounds like the power supply and your laptop is most likely dead.
If you bought it from apple.com you will have to return it and deal with the most incompetent customer service people on the planet. Took them 2 months to get my issue resolved.
I wish you the best of luck.

  • Shut down window keeps popping up...

This issue keeps me busy since Snow Leopard already, and I thought it's done with a new Mac (Early MBP this year, migrated via Time machine) or Lion (installed right after launch) - but still there:
My 15' MBP (early this year) is connected to a 30 inch Cinema Display (one of the last versions available) via an Apple cable ($99).
Now I disconnect my MBP from the Cinema and work mobile, and not every time, but very often, I come back and connect it back to the Cinema, the "shut down" screen keeps popping up. If i hit cancel, it comes back in seconds. There is no alogorithm to get it going...at some point it just stops. This was partly ok with Snow Leopard, since this screen could have been just moved to a spare part of the screen and I could continue working...but under Lion, you cannot mve it away and work - since the shut down window is dominant and keeps getting activated. I have attached a screenshot of the shut down window so everyone knows what I am talking about.
How can I get rid of the issue? It's not a hardware issue, since I had 2 Macbook pros with the same issue...seems to be a software issue.
    Can you help?
    Thanks, Markus

  • After upgrade to Lion, iPhoto will not save events nor save albums after created.

After upgrade to Lion, iPhoto will not save events nor save albums after created. Once iPhoto is shut down and re-launched, albums and events created no longer exist. How can this be fixed?
Also, when attempting to create cards, iPhoto freezes.
    Message was edited by: askgabe

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

You can open Word files in Pages by default without any problem. Select one of the Word files by clicking once on it in Finder. Press cmd-i to Get Info on the file. In the bottom half of the window that opens, is Open with:. Below that click on the drop down box and select Pages.app. Then click on Change All... and confirm the "Are you sure... " warning. Now, all Word files will open in Pages.

  • Another "horrible performance after upgrading to Lion" post

    Hi,
Sorry for yet another "my computer has horrible performance after upgrading to Lion" post.  I did search the forum before posting.
I have a relatively new Macbook Pro, 8 GB RAM, 2.8 MHz Intel i7 CPU.  I upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion, then Lion to 10.7.2.
The first time I upgraded, I no longer had my user account, so restored from Time Machine back to SL.  After a month or so, I hoped Apple had fixed the bug, so I redownloaded and reinstalled, and this time the upgrade succeeded.
Ever since the upgrade, my MBP runs like a dog.  I get the spinning beach ball constantly, across all range of applications, both Apple and 3rd party.  Occasionally it doesn't wake up from sleep (close, open lid) and I have to kick it in the head by holding down the power button.
I've tried booting into the recovery partition, running disk utility, and repairing disk and permissions.  I've read elsewhere (Google hit) that doing a completely clean install fixes the performance issues (for those users anyway).
I know this is a fairly generic post, but any advice on how to maximize machine performance under Lion, or should I revert to Snow Leopard?  Do I really have to wipe the disk, install fresh, restore all non-OS files (don't accidentally wipe a required OS file), then reapply the 10.7.2 maintenance?  Yuck.
    Thanks,
    Scott

try an SMC reset if you are not seeing any weird spikes in Activity Monitor and you've deduced that none of your third party drivers or apps are interfearing with the way lion works.
Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own
Note: Portable computers that have a battery you should not remove on your own include MacBook Pro (Early 2009) and later, all models of MacBook Air, and MacBook (Late 2009).
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

  • Macbook Pro overheat after upgrading to lion

After upgrading to lion my 2011 macbook pro is a lot slower and overheats so much anyone else have this problem?

I have not tried reinstalling lion or cloning my hard drive, but in another support thread here, I was told to reset my PRAM to solve another problem I was having.  This actually fixed my fan problem (now it is running at 2000 rpm with six applications running).  Once you do this, your spotlight index will be erased so for the first hour or so after resetting your PRAM, it will be blazing away.  However, mine stopped after the spotlight index finished.
    Resetting PRAM and NVRAM
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • I can't hear sound after upgrading to lion

I have this little annoying problem with my iMac after upgrading to Lion OSX. After waking up my iMac I can't hear any sound from internal speakers, ie: only video on Youtube, but no sound, but whilst pressing volume up/down button I can hear beep. When it happens So I have to restart system everytime it happens. Anyone any ideas or maybe someone out there has the same problem?

I'he double checked everything, only 1 output device (internal speakers). As I said before, it is weird because I can play iTunes and can hear "beep", but neither youtube sound, nor game sound or internet radio seems to be working, no sound whatsoever. But this time system didn't go to sleep, it has just happened suddenly.... Restart again then!

  • After upgrading to lion I can use my printer HP Laserjet 1200

After upgrading to lion I can no longer print to the copier on our local network. Tried everything but did not work. Please help

If you just upgraded to Lion, you get 90 days of complimentary support, so don't be bashful.  Call 'em.  I called Apple support and they resolved this specific issue.  We first verified that a newly created Admin account could create and edit Address Book.  When it did, we rightly assumed corruption in the Address Book Library files.
Here are the steps from that point.
Back up your Address Book: From Address Book, choose File > Export and choose Export vCard to a desitnation of your choosing.
    Close Address Book.
From the Desktop, Hold Option and click Go in the menu at the top of the screen.
Choose Library.  If this is not an option, you are not pressing the Option key or you are not an Admin.
Expand the Application Support folder and drag the AddressBook folder to the Trash.  Close window.
Open Address Book and import your address book vCard.
Lion has changes that remind me of Windows 2000 where folders are hidden even to Admins.  Apple is purposefully hiding files and folders they don't think anyone should be seeing.  If you want Admin priviledges you had in Leopard or earlier versions, you need to upgrade to a Root user...highly not recommended.

  • After upgrading to Lion should I have tatty grey screen on opening with boxes for password user?

After upgrading to Lion on Wednesday last I now have a tatty grey screen on booting-up with the two boxes for user name and password.Gone is the old blue screen. Does anyone else have a grey opening screen?
Also this evening on booting the grey screen appeared but I could not immediately type any info into either box. After switching on/off several times I gave up and left the iMAC on with an inactive grey screen.About five minutes later the HP printer went through a re-calibration or cleaning process,of its own accord, and I noticed that the cursor on the screen had moved of its own accord.I then found that I could insert info into the two boxes and here I am with the iMAC open.Anone come across this issue?

    Hello again Gary,
After trying your PRAM suggestion, everything was OK however, when I restarted my iMac the next day, the same Grey Screen apppeared whith the request for user name and password?
This has repeated for the last 3 days!
I have tried the Utility to check the HD "Verify Disk Permissions" which shows a long list of "faults"? and I have done this twice now.
Also I have to do the PRAM start-up in order to get online and use other programs. I get frequent messages that say my "Applications" are for the wrong OS?
After using the PRAM keyboard start-up I get a screen with a "Bar" similar to the Windows XP start-up proocess and a grey blob moves along this "Bar" until the iMac starts.
On one site it mentioned that this iMac may need an "Firmware" update/correction; however I can not find any Firmware to download for this machine.
    My iMac is a 21.5" Model A1311.
Do I need to do a complete Format of the HDD and re-install Leopard and then try Lion again?
    Very frustrated,
    Maureen

  • After upgrading to Lion can't get Boot Camp to work! Just get "startup dusk cannot be portioned or restored to a single partition"?

After upgrading to Lion can't get Boot Camp to work! Just get "The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition". Anytone?

This message, and threads like yours got asked daily for over two years, now it is only a couple times a week!!
Is it so hard to follow through? you were to have backup already, clones are best, then erase/format and restore.
    Then partition.
Some have been able to use Disk Utility booted from OS X DVD or another drive, and repair the drive.
You have to use Boot Camp Assistant (99.9% anyway) to create and achieve a proper Windows Master Boot Record partition.

  • Back to my mac no longer works after upgrading to Lion

Back to my Mac no longer works after upgrading to Lion
After I upgraded my home machines to Lion, I can no longer access them from my work computer, which is running Snow Leopard. When they were both Snow leopard, it worked fine. How can I get them working again? I don't have control over the OS on my work computer. Is it necessary for me to downgrade all of my home computers to Snow leopard in order to get them talking again?
Additionally the binoculars icon appears in the menu bar all of the time. In previous versions, this would only happen when somebody connected to my machine. Could these problems be related?

OK, so further investigation has addressed the BTMM issue on a remote machine.
With all machines running lion, I was having issues trying to log in to a standard user headless machine already running.  In Snow Leopard, I had no issues with this since you can log in via screen sharing using an admin login that's running a standard login.  Lion allows multiple accounts to be signed in which is handy since you can now run virtual sessions.  This means you can admin the remote computer without bothering the remote user.
The problem was that now logging in using admin login brings up the admin account (which makes sense) instead of the desktop to the standard login.  I applied a similar solution to a problem that was related to screen sharing I found on this board.  What I believe to be the fix is to add the standard user to the screen sharing user list.  Then screen share to the remote account using the standard user credentials.
So on the remote computer, in System Settings->Sharing->Screen Sharing, add the standard user to be allowed access.  Previously I only had admins.  This may not be an ideal solution for what I'm trying to do since the remote computers primary login is the standard user to be used as a common computer, but it now works so I am happy with it.
Now my only "problem" is my AEBS complaining about my MobileMe credentials, but it doesn't appear to have an impact on BTMM performance so I'll quietly wait for a fix down the road.
