After upgrading to ML, finder sidebar icons disappeared

How can I get Finder sidebar icons to appear after upgrading to Mountain Lion on both late 2009 Mini nad 13" MBA (mid 2011)?

Select Preferences from the Finder's Finder menu. Click on the Sidebar icon in the toolbar. Check the boxes for what you want displayed.
If you aren't seeing a sidebar then select Show Sidebar from the Finder's View menu.

You need to update to 10.6.6 (at least) to have the App Store.

Have you been trying to download from the app store? Did you get a message?
As a suggestion, you might go to an Apple store (genius bar appointment) for help. As far as I know, there should be no charge.

usually when you upgrade, it should not delete your files, but if it happens, than you should have a backup.
Unfortunately it is very common, that people don't know, what exactly is in the backup.
The question is, what files exactly you are missing? Own pictures, or taken with the device? Purchased music form the iTunes Store, or own? ....
Documents and files are mostly up to the developer of the app, if they are part of the backup, usually not and you need to transfer them before.
In the backup you will find just pictures from the Camera Rolle folder, everything else you should have on the PC, if you had it on the device.
Same then for music, you can transfer purchased music from the device, but your own works just one direction, from PC to device, from device to PC it doesn't work.
In future I recomand you to be sure how the backup works or use a 3rd party app (iExplorer) where you have a little bit more "freedome" than with iTunes.
Or you maybe just restored from the worng backup

So I upgrade and uploaded/matched all my songs to iTunes Match. Everything seems to be fine, except I noticed I don't have the genius functionality on my iPhone. Basically the little atom icon is missing. Does anyone have a solution for this problem.

This is what works for me.
I do this once: I keep quite a bit of music loaded on my iPhone using the normal sync process with my Mac (via USB cable) prior to turning on iTunes Match (...let's me listen to at least some music even when disconnected from the net, like when on a plane). And then I turn iTunes Match back on (and leave it turned on) and it gives me access to the rest of my music library from iCloud when I have network access (3G or Wifi) for normal listening using my whole library over Match.
I start playing a song on my iPhone (one that doesn't have the iCloud icon)
I click the home button (physical button on iPhone that closes the Music app)
I then double click the home button (opens the task manager at the bottom)
Quit Music (press/hold on the Music icon in the tray until the little red circle with an x appears to quit the app)
Then restart Music (tap the Music icon on my iPhone home screeen)
When the Music app restarts, it opens to the last song playing. if it was one of the songs downloded to my iPhone, it has the litlle atomic symbol again and I can create a genius playlist from it.
FYI: you can enable/disable iTunes Match on the iPhone without affecting songs loaded on your iPhone (even though it says it'll replace your iPhone library, the songs are still there if you enable/disable again). Settings>>>Music>>>iTunes Match on/off.

Finder window icons disappear

Ever since I've upgraded to Mountain Lion, my icons in any finder window have disappeared.
Any ideas?

Finder-Sidebar-Items disappear (spontaneously)

Of course me searched a lot but apparently this seems rather unusual. Good for you.
Thing is: the items in my sidebar (finder-window-sidebar) disappear at almost every startup - plus, sometimes spontaneously.* Wicked.
All those vanishing folders are from my second internal disc.
I :
- cleared ALL caches (multiple times)
- trashed the sidebar.plist plus the finder.plist (mulitple times)
- executed pretty much all remaining troubleshooting routines known to mackind
I'm running 10.4.6 but this actually started to happen as soon as switchin' to tiger.
At that time (in January) I did a model-clean-install - so I don't really believe in startin' from scratch.
Also, everything (else) just works beautifulliest. Finder-wise and beyond.
As a matter of course I ain't got no fancy Finder-Extensions/Modifications installed.
Naturally I love you, but if you could help me to solve this issue I would idolize you over and above.

So I performed all the tasks mentioned in my last post.*
Then installed the 10.4.7 Combo Update.
Sadly, same ol' situation.
But:
Like mentioned in my first post, the disappearing sidebar-folders are from my second internal disk.
Now somethin' attracted my attention; I don't know how this could have slipped my perception. Whenever I repair permissions on THIS harddisk it, of course, gets ejected first**. That's when the folders get lost. They vanish and don't come back. As far as I can remember with Panther the sidebar-items stayed there - even if a disk wasn't mounted. (No icon after reboot, but still a plain folder...) Also that's the reason why folders from the system-disk remain - it never gets ejected.
Neither an alias nor a symbolic-link helps to keep them in the sidebar.
I totally reproduced this on my iMac. So obviously it's a tiger bug, isn't it? Could you please confirm before I write Apple; since it's strange there's nothin' on the internets about this.
Perhaps there's some kind of workaround/solution?!

After the latest update my itunes icons disappeared from desktop

After completing the latest update, the desktop icons have completely disappeared. I can get Itunes to show up when I have my device plugged in, but have been unable to get the icons to show back up on the desktop. Is there anyway to fix this?

I have Yosemite installed, i think so, overtime i restart or reboot begins again the installation process, when i log in, finder doesn't open and safari crashes, it *****!

It's recommended to reformat your device after installing symbian anna.
Reformat - Type *#7370# and the phone's lock code (Nokia default lock code is 12345). Warning! This reset wipes your C drive/phone memory! On Symbian^3 devices mass memory gets wiped too.

I have Linux Ubuntu and when I tried to upgrade my firefox, my firefox icon disappeared!

I have firefox 3.26 or something like that on my ubuntu linux 10.04 machine. I only tried to install/update firefox 7.0 and it would not let me do this. I got a tar.biz2 file and when I opened it with archive manager, the compression software, it just had a bunch of binary files and wouldn't do anything at all so I extracted them, but that did not help. It still would not do anything. How do I upgrade my firefox browser and how do I get my firefox icon back on my desktop? Or shall I uninstall firefox and install another version or what? Is 7.0 not compatible with Ubuntu Linux? And if I am running the correct firefox browser for Linux, how do I update firefox in the ubuntu software update? I have tried this.

After upgrade on MacBook my user profile disappeared and the whole thing is weird

I am running Mac OS X, version 10.7.5. My prfile pix disappeared, got a flower instead. Changed that to another photo, that is now a gray silhouette. What is going on?

before upgrade 10.5.2 with sidebar finder i could connected at xserve with kerberos AFP, after upgrade not possible connected sidebar with kerberos only use connected the server in the menu bar finder.

You are not alone, I have seen the same issue.
If however I click on the "all .." option in the sidebar, and then on the server name from the subsequent list it works for me.

Cannot use elementary icons themes after upgrading to GTK+-2.22.0 ?

Hello All,
After upgrading to GTK+-2.22.0, elementary icons look horribly wrong for some reason. I thought maybe i need to download the icons themes again (https://launchpad.net/elementaryicons/+download) so i did download the latest elementary icons and install them in ~/icons. However, the icons themes dont look the way they should look. Therefore, I am not sure what i did wrong, or if it had to do with upgrading to GTK+-2.22.0 and i am wondering if i am missing something or need to change some setting.
I am using Xface4 as my Desktop Environments.
Any help would be much appreciated.

After upgrading, almost all of my icon themes are broken, including Elementary, which is the only one I actually care about.

Recent update to libpng seems to have solved it for me. They still don't display properly in the "Appearance -> Theme -> Customize... -> Icons" dialog, but they display properly in Nautilus and on the panels.

Skype video icon disappeared

last night after a Windows automatic upgrade, I noticed my video icon disappeared this morning. Msg says Skype cannot detect webcam. I have the latest version 6.16.0.105 on my desktop. Using Vista. Should I revert to an older Skype version or uninstall the windows upgrades? Thanks

Skype version 6.14.0.104 still working fine but I now keep getting a daily invitation to upgrade to the latest version. Decided to go for it today after saying "not now" for the past week or so. Well.... version 6.18 fails to install after several attempts. Keep getting "fatal error - code 1603" ??? Any idea why this is? Am still using desktop pc, Vista Home Edition, and Firefox. Thanks for any help. Till then will stick to version 6.14
