After Upgrading to Yosemite, I am asked to reset my password

After upgrading to Yosemite, I was asked to change the password for the local accounts on the computer. However, every time I tried to change it, it would say "Password does not meet the requirements of the server." I am not sure what requirements it is talking about. I eventually figured out the pattern to get logged in, but I was wondering if anyone else has encountered this with their upgrade and figured out why it happened? I have seen this happen on two of my Mac computers.

Thanks for the idea but it did not work, I do not know why it is asking me for a password which I never needed before for a guest to use the computer?  I have tried everything and I do not know which password it wants?   I do not see any option for a password for the guest account, to create one or delete one or modify it?  Maybe this bug\problem will be addressed in a future update?

  • Upgraded to yosemite and its asking me for iCloud password to an old ID

I just upgraded to Yosemite on my mac mini.  When I turn on the computer it asks me for a password to an id that no longer exists.  when I try to use mail, it is apparently using the old ID so it defaults to an iCloud email address and none of my contacts can be found.  I have an iMac, iPhone and iPad that all seem to reworking just fine with the correct ID.  How to I get rid of this old ID on my mini and make it use the correct ID?

I apologize, so used to twitter and abbreviating, I forget how specific we need to be here.
I changed my apple ID from Y to X a year or more ago.  Y email no longer exists.  I changed it on my iPad, iPhone, mac mini and a new iMac that i bought.
Saturday, Jan 31, I upgraded my mini to Yosemite.  when the upgrade was complete a pop up window asked for my iCloud password and it used the old apple ID Y that no longer exists.  I kept clicking cancel on the window (it took about 5 times) and the window went away.  I logged into iTunes and iCloud using my new (X) ID on the mini and made the assumption all was good.
Today I tried to compose an email, and even tho I am receiving email from my new (X) id, went I went to compose an email associated window said something about the old ID...but I accidentally clicked it off and couldn't read it all.  Now when I go to compose an email it is defaulting to iCloud for some reason...perhaps because the email program wants to use the old (Y) ID? I don't know.
The old ID (Y) was originally used to set up this mac mini when I purchased it in 2013.

  • I cannot update apps after upgrading to Yosemite. Please Help!

    Hello,
After upgrading to Yosemite, i wanted to go on to iMovie, but i have to update. So i try to update but it refuses and tells me: "This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled."
So what i understand is because i bought this mac in the US and I'm using it in the UK its not letting me update it. But what i don't understand is that i was able to upgrade to Yosemite with my mac knowing i was in the UK.
How can i update my applications?
    Thank you for your time,
    TOAOMA

Perform the following, stopping with the first one which works:
    1. Open the Mac App Store's Purchases tab. If you're prompted to accept it and the other iLife/iWork applications into your Apple ID, do so.
    2. Move them out of the Applications folder(they may need to be put into the Trash temporarily), and then see if you can download them for free from their individual product pages. If you're asked to buy them, see #3.
    3. Click here, contact Apple, and wait for a response.
    4. Buy them.

After upgrading to Yosemite, my MBP crashes everytime I try to open BitTorrent, What´s wrong??

The acsm file is not the book, it is a ticket to get the book.  I sometimes get library books online, here is what I do.
    1. Start ADE on the computer
    2. Go to library website and find the book I want to download.
    3. Click on the download link
    4. In windows 7 a box opens asking whether I want to open( or run) or save the acsm file
    5. Click open/run and ADE downloads the book into the "Library"
    6. Transfer the book (epub file) to the reader.

  • After upgrading to Yosemite my mac doesn't shut off. The off button doesn't work

After upgrading to Yosemite, my mac doesn't shut off.  The off button no longer works. I want to shut the thing off.

    Jehreth,
On my Macbook Pro you have to hold the power button down a moment till a little window pops up and asks what you would like to do. Also you can go to:
    (  ) Menu > Shut down ...
to shutdown your Mac. Or are you saying that these options do not work?
    Hope that helps,

  • After upgrading to Yosemite, I am unable to share screen with Macbook Pro

After upgrading to Yosemite 10.10 on a 2008 MacBook Pro I am unable to "Share Screen" using my authorized user account.  It worked fine before I upgraded to Yosemite.
I can access "Share Screen" by "requesting permission", but of course this doesn't work unless I am sitting right by the MacBook Pro to give myself permission, which defeats my original purpose for using "Share Screen".
I attempted to add another authorized "Share Screen" user account, but was unable to access the list of add "Groups and Users" on the host MacBook Pro from the "Share Screen" dialog box.  The dialog box pops up, when I press "+" to add another user, but the list of users fails to appear.  I assume the list of authorized users for screen share has somehow become corrupt.
All other ways to access "sharing user" accounts appear to be working properly.  I can add and remove other "sharing users" without problems.  For example, I can add a new authorized "file share" user and share files without problems.
I ran Disk Utility in Recovery Mode and normal mode and corrected all errors, and user permissions on both machines.  I also ran "resetpassword" from Terminal in Recovery Mode and "reset" user permissions.  I am not an experienced Terminal or Recovery Mode user though.
I also tried turning the Firewall off, to no avail.
I am attempting to access "Screen Share" on the MacBook Pro via a Macbook Air 13" manufactured mid 2013 also with Yosemite 10.10, however, I also attempted with an older MacBook Air which experiences the same problem.

  • I can't open a .psd file in Illustrator CS4 after upgrading to Yosemite

I can't open a .psd file in Illustrator CS4 after upgrading to Yosemite.

Can you open any file, i.e. jpeg, etc.? Have you installed the Apple legacy Java: Java for OS X 2014-001? I'm guessing you have because you wouldn't be able to open PS at all without it. But have to ask.

  • HT203300 Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 no longer syncs contacts and calendars after upgrading to Yosemite

Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 no longer syncs contacts and calendars through iTunes after upgrading to Yosemite. It worked fine until I made the mistake of upgrading. Help!?

Please describe the problem in as much relevant detail as possible. The "etrecheck" fad hasn't made that step any less necessary. The usual results of posting etrecheck output on this site without a full description of the problem are very poor.
The many "failed" or "killed" warnings that etrecheck sometimes spews are not a reason to reinstall the OS.
The better your description of the problem, the better the chance of a solution.
For example, if the computer is slow, which specific actions are slow? Is it slow all the time, or only sometimes? What other changes did you make, if any, just before it became slow? Have you seen any alerts or error messages? Have you done anything to try to fix it? Most importantly, do you have a current backup of all data? If the answer to the last question is "no," back up now. Ask if you need guidance. Do nothing else until you have a backup.

  • Problem accessing iPhoto after Upgrade to Yosemite

After upgrading to Yosemite on my MacBook , the result I get when trying to open iPhoto, which I use a lot , is : our photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iPhoto after the upgrade. The upgrade process for very large libraries may take an hour or more to complete.
What does "not readable by previous versions of iPhoto after the upgrade " ? Am I not going to access my photos ?

Thank you Niel but I just found out that my back up to my Passport for Mac is not the same as before and am having problems with it .
I go to settings, select time machine , turn it on and it starts  backing up .
Now it is asking me to choose between My passport for Mac and Other airport time capsule .
When I choose My passport for Mac , it gives me the  choice  : REMOVE DISK or Cancel .
If I choose the other one , it gives me the choice : SET UP or cancel .
I don't know what Other airport time capsule is and not sure if I have to set it up .

  • Pointer ghost after upgrading to Yosemite

Intermittently the mouse pointer appears with two columns of dashes beneath it. These follow the pointer around the screen. This appeared after upgrading to Yosemite. It may be related to using Microsoft office programs. I have seen this identical behavior on a two year old iMac and on a brand new MacBook Pro, both after upgrading to Yosemite. It does not disappear when the computer is put to sleep, but it does if I restart.
Has anyone else experienced this, or found a fix for it?

  • Fix for iPhoto after upgrading to Yosemite

After upgrading to Yosemite I was unable to open iPhoto. I moved it to Trash (do NOT empty trash after moving it here!!!) - then go to App Store and download iPhoto. You'll want to make sure you then go to your Finder and click on the iPhoto download app in order to complete the download. When you open iPhoto it may say you need to upgrade - go ahead and do so then your photos will appear again with a new icon in your dock (remove the old one since it won't work now - the new icon will look different if you had an older version of iPhoto).
    Hope this helps!

Ok so here's what you gonna do. (had this problem myself today, and after some fiddling figured out what to do.)
Find your old iPhoto with a cross through it, right-click it and select 'show package contents'. A folder will open. In that folder go to Contents>MacOS and there will be three little things there. Click on the one called 'iPhoto' and terminal will open. Leave terminal open and wait four seconds and VOILA! iPhoto opens. Leave terminal open until you are finished with iPhoto, because if you close terminal, iPhoto will close with it. THX! ENJOY! Hope it works.
    P.S.
You can close terminal once you close iPhoto. I also suggest backing up your iPhoto library while you can.

  • Black boot screen and startup manager on mid 2014 rMBP after upgrading to Yosemite

After upgrading to Yosemite I'm experiencing black booting process. Moreover, I noticed that the startup manager, which we access by holding the option key, has the black background too. I didn't like the Yosemite, so I downgraded back to Mavericks, but I still have the startup manager with the black background and the initial screen during the startup sound is black too, and after that the grey screen with the Apple logo comes up, which is typical for Mavericks. I want my startup manager to have the grey background as before. And also, before there was the grey screen during the startup sound, not the black one. How to revert all this to the previous state? I'm experiencing all this on my rMBP, 13-inch, mid-2014.
I want to revert because after downgrading back to Mavericks my rMBP started freezing terribly, especially on youtube, ebay and app store. And it's not just the web browsing, it's freezing when navigating in finder too. I know there are many experienced users here, so I hope that somebody can help me with this. Before upgrading to Yosemite my machine was running flawlessly.

  • Performance degradation after upgrading to yosemite

I'm experiencing performance degradation on MacBook Pro 15  including
    number of spinning wheels,
    instance of dark screen,
    overheating after upgrading to Yosemite
    diminished battery life
Is Yosemite the cause of this and other issues

I can't believe Apple have made this software available to the masses when it's clearly not ready. Since "upgrading" my Mac mini has been pretty useless. Programs take a substantially increased time to open compared to Mavericks, and then performance is poor at best. Opening files in Photoshop, for example, is painfully slow and I get the colour wheel almost all of the time - something which definitely didn't happen with Mavericks.
Aside from this, I've experienced a number of frustrating bugs today. When I open a new program on my left screen the right screen is changed to a fresh desktop. Why? When I turn my Mac on I get the login screen on the left monitor (as it always used to) but then the primary desktop is set to the right and I've been unable to keep the correct setting so far (it forgets that I've changed it following a reboot). The background of the top bar keeps disappearing so all of the icons, time, etc. just sit on top of the desktop background.
I hope Apple can release a fix, and quickly.
