There is no upgrade to iPhoto with OS X 10.10.3 - here was an update to version 9.6.1 a few months ago and Photo 1.0 was added with 10.10.3 - what software and which version are you having trouble with - iPhoto or Photos?

Radeon HD 4870 and HD 2600 XT causes fans to run faster

I just installed a Radeon HD 4870 in my early o8 Mac Pro in PCIE Slot 1. I also moved my original 2600 XT in PCI slot 3 (have also tried it in slot 2 with the same results). I have 2 monitors connected to the 2600 and 1 32" HD TV connected to the 4870. For some reason now my exhaust fan and HD expansion fan is running faster than before I added the 4870. Exhaust is 1148rpm and HD expansion is 2099. Is this just because of the extra heat generated by the 4870 or is something not right here? Thanks.

Just tried running with only the 4870 and do not get the high fan speeds. It only occurs when both cards are installed.

First, you only need to post your question once ... you can update that post by responding to it.
If an SMC reset doesn't fix a fast fan, there are several things you can do. First, find the original gray-faced OS X disks that came with the mini and run the extended hardware test, to see if any sensors are failing.
Next, install istat pro from http://www.islayer.com/apps/istatpro/ so you can monitor temps to see if something is running hot.
Finally, load the Activity Monitor (on your hard drive in applications/utilities) and see if any programs are consistenly running more than 30% to 50%+ of the CPU.

This happens because an process running in the background stresses the CPU up to 100% and this creates more heat dissipation and the fan kick on and runs faster to cool down the CPU. Additionally the CPU is locked and therefore the system freezes for some time.
You have to check what process or tool stresses the CPU.
You can start task manager (CTRL + ALT + DEL) and check the tab Processes.
Here you can see in the CPU column what process use most of CPU performance.

After upgrade Lion to Mavericks, can't run Windows 7 on boot camp because is hidden/disabled

The question is about iMac (21.5-inch, Mid 2011)
It was with Lion, there was a Windows 7 (32bit) partition created by Boot Camp v4.
So, I made the upgrade to Mavericks (no clean install), after this when iMac start and holding "ALT" button no longer appears the option to boot into Windows!
EDIT: I installed rEFit, now I can see Win partition but when I select it system says: "A disk read error occured Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart"
I am sure that Win partition there is yet because when I'm booting Mac OS X and opening "boot camp assistant" it says me eventually remove the Win7 partition, and because I can see in the "Disk Utility" there's still the partition (disk0s4).
It's because MBR is broken after upgrade to Mavericks?

When bootcamp start, between the choises is to create a bootable usb disk. So you need to choose this and put your windows 7 cdrom inside and an empty usb flash disk. Then the program will take the Win7 file from the copy you have and will create a new copy in you usb disk. Then it will use the new copy for the installation and normally no error will appear.

PC hangs after upgrade Windows 8 PE to Windows 8.1

Couple of days after upgrading to Windows 8.1 I received the error message
File: \BCD
Errorcode: 0xc0000098
Press ESC for UEFI-firmware-settings.
PC doesn't boot any longer.
I ran following commands successfully :
bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot
bootrec /scanos
but while running bootrec /rebuildbcd I get the message :
Total identified Windows installations : 1
[1] c:\windows
Add installation to boot list ? Yes <Y>/No <N>/All<A>
When choosing the option <A> I get "volume does not contain a recognized file system.

I understand that you are experiencing an issue with the Master Boot Record on your computer running Windows 8.1. Now you stated that you did the following:
bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot
I think you should repeat the process, but include the 'bootrec /rebuildbcd' at the end and then restart the computer

Problem facing after upgrade windows 8 pro 64 bit

I was using Windows 8 Pro 64 Bit, recently I have upgraded it with 8.1. After upgrade my Tally gets hanged while exiting with my live account. Tally was working fine with same live account in Windows 8. I have spoke to Tally technical staff, they have
suggested me to try with another account. So, I have created local account and tried, and it worked fine. So, I thought it might be possible that it is due to old user files, so I have removed the live account and recreated it, and tried the same, but the
problem is same. So, as of now I have removed the live account and working with local account and its working fine. Another problem without live account is I am not able to download any app from store. One thing I have noticed that my live account's user directory
is still existing in user folder even I have removed the account with no backup option. So is it possible to flushed all the old and new files lying with my live account? or any other solution?

Does your notebook have switchable graphics that worked i Windows 7?
The AMD graphics driver provides the audio while using an HDMI output.
You will need to install the AMD graphics driver in Windows 7 compatibility mode to resolve this.

After Upgrading Windows 8 to 8.1, windows Explorer hangs frequently

After upgrading from windows 8. to 8.1 on my brand new HP 810-003a, now windows explorer and Microsofy outlook frequently hang. They grey out ""waiting to contact server" message.

It sounds like you are having network problems. Try these HP posted tips.
Did you install the HP posted Windows 8.1 driver updates for your PC? If you haven't, then install the drivers in this order:
Intel chipset driver--- reboot
Intel MEI driver -- reboot
Now install the remaining posted drivers.
If you still have issues, then contact HP Support. Your PC is covered by warranty and you may have faulty hardware.

Satellite P100-347: After 4.10 BIOS update fan always runs at maximum

Hi!
I have an P100-347 and had graphics stuttering problems while playing games. By updating BIOS 4.0 to 4.10 it solve the stuttering problem!!!
Now my fan always runs at maximum, It never ideals.
It's still the same even when i chooes lowconsumption configuration. I use the same drivers as before, just only updated the bios.
I have alsow tested with the latest intel chipset divers and Nvidia driver and it is still the same.
So my conclution is the BIOS, does Toshiba know anything about this issue and working on a newer bios?

Everything points that the BIOS 4.10 is the common issue to the always high speed of the graphical fan even when the laptob is in standby mode.
I want to see some action like a new revise of the BIOS 4.10!

Windows 2008 R2 OS Clock runs fast and gains 2-3 seconds in a day

I have got many servers running Windows 2008 R2 Ent 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601 on HP DL 360 gen7 servers. The problem is that the clock being maintained by the OS runs fast. NTP is being used to mitigate the issue but need to identify the root
cause of the problem. I have verified that the hardware clock is not at fault as after running the system for 5 days the clock went ahead by nearly 12 seconds and when the server was rebooted the OS clock showed nearly accurate time. NTP was turned off completely
on this server for this testing. As at power-on the OS picks the time from the BIOS/Hardware clock this proves that the hardware clock is working fine and once the OS is up and running, the timer/function that it is using to maintain the system clock is not
functioning properly. The systems are not under any kind of load and no temperature fluctuations have been observed. Enabling HPET also did not help.
Please do not answer saying, "use w32tm or ntp" as that mitigates the problem but does not solve it. The server is not a DC. The OS is running directly on the server, no VM involved.
