After Win-10 HP Recovery and Partition Useless?

I just converted from Win-7 (purchased July 2015) to Win-10.  I have not yet got a response from HP as to whether this conversion effects my warranty; MicroSoft had said to do that first, and I wasted hours trying to find that answer. Now after conversion, I notice that I still have a Recovery Partition (D) on my machine, that appears to be useless and is taking-up HD space and also a Recovery Folder in applications that says when opened "that they were not built for O/S 8"??  Regardless, since these applications no longer work; can I just delete them, I do have Restore Disks created when machine first arrived. Any suggestions on what I should do with this Recovery Partition; since it appears useless, I'd like the HD space back.  ALSO, if known by anyone/someone, if that partition is deleted and I were to recreate Win-7 with the Recovery Disks - would those Disks also recreate this Recovery Partition too???  Thanks for any assistance ...  - dlcNV

smart question. let's see if anybody's knows how to answer it. I'm also interested in finding out the answer. nice job.

  • HP Pavilion DV8el Entertainment recovery and partitioning drive C

Someone must have done this before, but I just cannot find anything...
I had to replace drive C for bad sectors, and now the Recovery Disks I had made three years ago crash with blue screen on partitioning the drive.
Nothing can be installed via that **bleep** disks (which are new because I have never used them before!)
I have a clean Ghost image of the whole C drive (before it got corrupted), partition by partition, so I really want to use that to recover my software and configurations. But I do not know how to do that without going throught the ununseable Recovery discs.
The problem seems to be that Ghost looks for the four original partitions and since it cannot find them it does not know where to install the C data... Can I manually partition C? I have a Linux Mint 13 system on a bootable USB drive, so I can mount and format C, I just need to know HOW (FAT32, NTFS, HIDDEN...) and what size/flags to give partitions...
I hope someone can help! Thanks a million, Gabriele

I understand you need to restore your system software after replacing the HDD.
You mentioned you have a Ghost image.  Are you referring to Norton Ghost?  If so, what version of Ghost was used to make the image?
If you do have Ghost, then this thread may be useful for you.
    http://community.norton.com/t5/Other-Norton-Products/How-do-I-Restore-Ghost-Image-to-a-new-Hard-Driv...
Additionally, this document covers restoring a Ghost image on a new HDD using Ghost 15.

I suspect the process is similar for other versions of Ghost.  Once I know the exact version of Ghost, I may be able to find something more specific for your version of Ghost.

  • Recovery and partition

Hi there! I've got HP Pavilion dv6-6b57er with 1 Tb harddrive and i want to split it into 2 logical disks, so the question is: after doing this will i be able to make recovery media disk? i guess, it's on the flash/ssd or something, but im not sure.

You should make recovery disk before splitting parition to prevent data loss or you can split partiiton with some software like Partition Assistant with data security ensured.

  • Recovery and Partitions

    Hi,
    I have a T530.
C is my primary operating drive
    Q is Lenovo recovery drive
I shrunk C and created a logical partition for data with a different drive letter.
If I use Lenovo's recovery software, when it restores factory state to C drive wil it overwrite/remove the logical partition that I created or will my data be safe and remain?
    Thanks.

I believe if you restore factory defaults your entire hard drive will be repartitioned to it's default state. So I would suggest you do that one-time backup of your operating system via Lenovo Rescue & Recovery on a 16GB USB stick (or an external hard drive), then repartition your hard drive (which you've done already) and then backup entire drive via 3rd party software and keep your Lenovo R&R recovery image for when you want to sell or trade your laptop.

Everytime I try to do an upgrade via my PC it freezes the phone (screen set on pic of usb requesting to plug into itunes) and itunes fails to recognise device.  This has happened with my iphone 3s, my ipad, my ipod shuffle, and now with my brand new - never used iphone 4s.
It will only rework if I completely restore on a different PC.  Have uninstalled  / reinstalled itunes and tried all the suggestions.  Figure it has ato do with the PC as this has happened to multiple devices now.  Very very frustrating as I don't have a second PC and is a massive inconvenience.  Does anygone have any suggestions?  I want to use my new phone!!!!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
If your problem persists get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
    Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Devices list, and then click Restore.
(You may already have a micro USB cable if you have a camera or other digital device)
Check that you have correctly followed the instructions for your model of Apple TV.
If not already, try using a powered USB port.
Repeat the process but this time try connecting the cable while iTunes is closed.
Repeat the process with another cable.

    SYS_LOB0000875128C00014$$                                                         5           LOBSEGMENTThe total size of EMP table is 3 + 7 + 2 + 5 = 17 GB
I am looking for query which will do a lookup in DBA_LOBS and DBA_PARTITIONS and add up space for each table.
So, my required output will looks like
    TABLE_NAME          Size
    EMP               17g
    DEPT                1g
    WMERRORS          104g
    .

    Hi Garry,
the segment_name in DBA_SEGMENTS can be used to group all table partitions of a partitioned table. So we only have to join DBA_LOBS to DBA_SEGMENTS and group the result rows:
    with
    basedata as (
    select owner
         , segment_name
         , segment_type
         , round(sum(bytes)/1024/1024/1024) gb
         , sum(bytes) bytes
         , count(*) segment_count
      from dba_segments s
    group by owner, segment_name, segment_type
    lobs as (
    select owner
         , table_name
         , segment_name
      from dba_lobs
    all_segs as (
    select coalesce(lobs.table_name, basedata.segment_name) table_name
         , basedata.*
      from basedata
      left outer join
           lobs
        on (basedata.segment_name = lobs.segment_name
            and basedata.owner = lobs.owner)
    select table_name
         , sum(bytes) bytes
         , sum(gb) gb
      from all_segs
    group by table_name
    having sum(gb) > .1;Regards

This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

  • Recovery and EFI System Partitions both reading 100% Free after I Factory Reset

I own a Hp Envy  dv7 Notebook PC running Windows 8 64Bit for about 1 year now. I recently did a Factory Reset, now my Recovery and EFI  Partitions say 100% Free on both partitions. I used the recovery disks I made two days after I purchased computer.

    Hi,
Is it  "Factory Reset" you mentioned inside Windows(Change PC settings\General\Reset)? After you execute this feature, it would remove all the file in your current system drive and reinstall your system in fact. However it won't make any influence with
    other drive.
In addition, generally speaking, OEM Recovery and EFI partitions should be hidden, how did you find them 100% free? I'm sorry for your loose, to fix this problem, you may need contact HP support for further assistance.

  • Rescue and Recovery and the Hidden Service Partition

When I got my G41 ThinkPad in November 2004 it had a Hidden Service Partition
of size 693 Mb. I'm a fan of Rescue and Recovery and upgraded it successfully
up through version 4.0, but when I tried to upgrade to 4.1 and later to 4.2 I got
an error that said there was not enough free space. After I learned that the error
was referring to free space in the Hidden Service Partition I had my hard drive
repartitioned so the Service Partition was 4 Gb. R & R 4.2 then installed, and I'm
    now on version 4.21.0016.00.
The other day I noticed that my free space on C:\ had dramatically increased, and
on further investigation I found that my Hidden Service Partition was again 693 Mb.
I don't know how this happened, unless it was the result of my starting to rejuvinate
my system and then later cancelling out of that processs and doing a full restore. I
still get the 4.2 Rescure and Recovery menu on hitting the blue Access IBM button
when I boot, and it seems to work as expected.
My question is: Should I have my HDD repartitioned again to make a 4 GB Hidden
    Partition?

    Hi,
I think your laptop is not set to boot from the DVD-rom. You have to 1st go to bios and set the 1st boot device to be the dvd-rom. After that, insert the recovery startup disc and it should take you to the recovery menu.
BTW, you should be able to recover from the service partition as long as you have not deleted it, even if windows is screwed up. Make sure you press the blue Thinkvantage button  or the F11 key at startup and only then will it take you to the recovery menu.
    Hope it works.

  • How can I create system image of Win-7 only on drive with Win-7 (NTFS) and Win-ME (FAT-32) system partitions

I am trying to create a Windows 7 Image Backup on my Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit PC.
I have two bootable partitions on my hard drive. One is NTFS and contains the Win-7 system files.
The other is FAT-32 and contains a Windows-ME system.
When it comes to selecting the drives (partitions) for backing up, both are marked as System, and both are selected. Both are also "greyed out) - I cannot uncheck them.
Furthermore, the Windows-7 imaging utility supplied with Windows-7 returns an error saying it cannot image the disk because it contains a partition that is not NTFS.
How can I select and image ONLY the NTFS partition that contains the Win-7 system? That is what I want to do.

Any of the products listed below will backup the contents (all partitions) of your disk drive. The only limitation is that you must install the backup software in Windows 7. You will perform a "Disk and Partition" backup by manually selecting
the disk and all partitions (NTFS / FAT32) and the Master boot Record (MBR) on the drive. The destination / where the Image Backup will be stored should be an external USB drive. With a "Disk and Partition" backup you can restore any partition
to your existing drive or the entire backup (to the same disk drive or a new drive).

  • Not a valid photoshop document after time machine recovery and reinstall of photoshop

After a time machine recovery most of my photoshop documents recovered fine, however there are a select few (and my most recent work unfortuantely) that seem corrupt. It isn't all of my documents. Trying to recover them again from back-up doesn't seem to be working. I did have to reinstall photoshop CS4 after the recovery.
I have seen similar questions on here but none of the solutions have worked. I've tried opening with other programs, I've tried changing the file extentions etc. If the files were just corrupt recovering them from time machine should fix the problem. Many thanks if you can assist.

    SaveChaos wrote:
…but it doesn't feel like corrupt files are the problem…
If it's only a few selected files that are misbehaving but others do open without problems, then you do have file corruption in each of those files.
Go back in time machine to the earliest possible date after each file was created and restore only that particular version of the file.
If that doesn't work, then considered the files irretrievably lost.  What kind of error message do they return when you try to open them?
In any event, it's imperative that you check the SMART status of your drive and Repair Drive (or at least Verify Drive) to check for a failing drive.
As an aside, taking a belt-and-suspender approach, it's my practice to supplement Time Machine with a clone of my working drive and daily backups of my files.  For some reason, I've had three Time Machine disks fail on three different Macs and locations in the last six months or so.
I had Time Machine disabled on all my Macs until I decided to give it one more test run on a 65-lb Mac Pro recently.  I'm not convinced one way or another yet, so all other Macs still have TM disabled for now. Time Machine is very intrusive, and the external TM drives run much, much hotter than external storage files—always a troubling sign in my book.

  • Problems with restoring my iTunes library after performing an HP backup and system recovery

    Hello,
Last Sunday night/Monday morning, I had to perform a system recovery (from the discs supplied by HP) on my HP Compaq Presario SR5310F 32-bit desktop computer running Windows Vista Home Premium, (on the recommendation of samone at HP) and just backing up my 90+ GB iTunes library took 12 hours (the actual system recovery took only about 2-1/2 hours, the following morning). After the recovery process was complete, I 'restored' the backed-up files by either double-clicking or just opening the first backup file (the one whose file name ends in '.1') and following the prompts, which placed the files into something called the 'System Restore Files' folder. I thought I could just restore my iTunes library by dragging and dropping the music, video and iTunes folder files from this System Restore Files folder back into their original places on my computer, but while the song titles did show up in my iTunes library, whenever I tried to actually play one, an exclamation point would appear beside the song's title and I'd get the error message 'iTunes cannot find the file'; when I clicked on 'Find missing file'--or whatever it's called--the C < Users < [username] < Music folder would open, and it would be completely blank, with only the words 'This folder is empty' appearing in it. (And BTW, before you try to recommend the 'Finding missing content in iTunes' or 'How to find missing music in iTunes' articles to me, I should point out that I did try all of the steps in those articles, but my iTunes library was still completely empty at that point, despite trying those steps; that was why I finally tried 'dragging and dropping all of those files back into the Desktop, Downloads, Documents--yes, some really large download files, not from iTunes, showed up in the Documents folder--and also a couple of downloaded music files--again, not from iTunes--showd up 'loose' [by 'loose', I mean not in one of the folders (e.g., Documents, Downloads etc.) in my [username] subfolder] in my [username] subfolder, after which, I was able to get most of my song and video titles listed in iTunes again, but they just won't PLAY! Also, it appears I'm missing about 5 GB from my iTunes library now, as it's saying that I only have about 85.15 GB worth of files in it, where before I had 90+ GB worth of files in it.)
BTW, I can play the files I moved to Desktop, Downloads, etc. if I right-click on the individual files in these locations and then click on 'Play' or 'Open With', but they just won't play in iTunes.
And one more thing: I stupidly deleted my 2 iTunes podcast file titles after I discovered that these, too, would not play; is there any way I can recover these--and my iTunes library--without performing yet ANOTHER system recovery and starting over 'from scratch'? (But if that's what I'll have to do, I'll do it--or else I'll just give up and start all over again with the new computer I plan to buy over the Labor Day weekend [it'll be a 64-bit Windows 7 computer, I know that much at least], as most of my music was ripped from CDs or else downloaded from places like Bandcamp or Amazon MP3, and these downloads were saved to a series of USB flash drives; I was informed that if worst came to worst, I could redownload my iTunes purchases, but my 2 podcasts will be lost forever, as iTunes doesn't 'keep' those--or words to that effect...)
P.S. The computer I'm using has only a 250 GB hard drive, of which 223 GB were available, I couldn't perform the 'Consolidate' function so I could properly back up my iTunes library, as, what with the accumulated Windows downloads (I got this computer in February 2008) and other programs, I had only a few (< 10) GB free--not enough to consolidate the iTunes library, and second, the computer malfunctioned just prior to my performing the system recovery, so that I could no longer log on in 'normal' mode, only in the various safe modes. A lady at Microsoft told me I could back up my iTunes library by logging on in safe mode with networking (since I could do that, albeit with the error message 'Your account has been loaded with a temporary profile') and pasting my iTunes library to my external hard drive, but when I tried this, I got a message listing my iTunes library as '(empty)' when I clicked on iTunes in 'All Programs', and needless to say, my iTunes library wouldn't even open in any of the safe modes (I don't know whether it was 'just' my computer, or whether the lady didn't know what she was talking about--she does work for Microsoft, after all).

OK, before you moved the iTunes folder did the library contain entries for your original files?
This is the normal layout of the iTunes folders. From what you said at the outset it would seem that, as far as that copy of your library is concerned, it thinks the media folder is C:\System Recovery Files\C\Users\<User>\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media
Not quite sure where you have moved the original set of library files to (that is the five files listed above and the Album Artwork folder) but you should move these to C:\System Recovery Files\C\Users\<User>\Music\iTunes, (leaving everything else in place) then click the icon to launch iTunes and immediately press and hold down the left shift key until asked to choose or create a library. Click choose and browse to the library file at C:\System Recovery Files\C\Users\<User>\Music\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl - fingers crossed this will open your old database, which will be able to find your old files. If that goes well we can look to moving them somewhere more sensible.

what should i do to get the recovery partition back? ... get back all the HDD space on one partition C the way i bought it
Restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using the Toshiba recovery discs.
Before doing that, back up the data drives.
If you insist on creating an additional partition, shrink the C partition and put it in the space created. Best to use a third-party tool.
