After Windows 10 update synaptics driver forgets settings on reboot

Yes jf87, Win 8.1 on touchpads with availablity have swiping. It is gesturing across from left to right or right to left. Also up and down swipes. The swipes start from off the touchpad and swipe over the edge (with a singe finger)and onto the  touchpad from one of the directions I mentioned. It brought up menus and other programs running. A nice option.

I might have found a trick, in any case that works for me with the latest Synaptics driver automatically installed today by Windows Update. Change the registry value at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTPEnh\DisableIntPDFeature to "33" (Hexa - it should be set at 22). Reboot. Now it should disable the trackpad on startup when there's a mouse connected. Only downside is that now every time I reboot there is this Windows notification on the bottom right corner telling the trackpad has been disabled because a mouse is connected to the computer... Don't know how to get rid of that yet.EDIT: Nevermind, just disable the Synaptics app notifications in the computer settings (tab "notifications")...! PS: Found this by trying the last option from this reference: http://www.intowindows.com/how-to-turn-off-touchpad-when-mouse-is-connected-in-windows-78-1/

  • Black screen after windows auto update

New laptop in use for 3 weeks.  After Windows auto update restart I get to splash screen and am able to enter Windows password to log onto desktop.  After successfully entering password I am not able to view my desktop; I get the black screen with cursor function; cursor disappears when moved within an inch of left or right of screen (seems to go behind something).  I believe I am at the desktop but just not able to view it, because I receive app popups on the black screen (need to update McAfee, etc).
In safe mode I restored to pre auto update date; manually installed all Windows updates;  worked fine until NEXT auto update, same problem.
Graphics Card:  Stock Intel HD Graphics
    Monitor:  Generic PnP
Why would it be fine with the manual update and not after auto update?
I do not have an external monitor to attach this laptop for diagnosis.  I have run windows partition checks and hard drive partition checks with no issues to resolve.
I did get an error message once when running a diagnosis (can't remember which) : Windows Update Error 0x80070490
No real luck finding anyway for me (the average Joe) to resolve this issue.
If this is a harddrive issue I don't want to keep pussyfooting around while my warranty window shrinks.
I have downloaded driver updates from HP, but cannot get the Synaptics Touchpad driver to download.  I don't think this is my issue though.
I am going to manually update all my drivers then manually update Windows.  We will see what happens on the next auto update.
Please advise if this is an issue I need to just give up on and return this laptop for replacement.  It seems like this is not a completely unheard of issue, but I'm shocked at what we are asked to do to attempt to resolve it.  Out of my depth.

    Hi @Justanothermom
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you are having troubles with a black screen after an update. I am happy to help you with this.
Firstly, there is nothing wrong with modifiying your update settings. I was going to suggest it myself as I read through your post, and then saw you ask the question. Sometimes updates can have unintended results by the creator. With all the different combinations of  hardware, and the fact that updates come from different sources, it is one of those things that is hard to completely control.
Please see the following for how to make adjustments to your update settings.
Turn automatic updating on or off - windows.microsoft.com
Or if you know which update seems to be causing the issue you can take a look at this page:

Let me know if this helps at all.

  • InDesign CS6 crashes at startup after windows 7 update

InDesign crashes at startup after windows 7 update: Faulting module path: C:\Windows\system32\MSVCR100.dll (Microsoft Visual C runtime and update KB2538243 and KB2565063)
    Reinstalling did not help
Also Adobe Encore CS6 seems to be affected

I looked at the recovery files in:
    C:\Users\MyName\AppData\Local\Adobe\InDesign\Version 8.0\en_US\Caches\InDesign
I deleted all the files and Indesign started up fine.  feeling good I closed Indesign and restarted.
    Indesign Crashed again.
Deleted all files again and reloaded.
I went to "Edit:Preferences:File Handling:Document Recovery Data"  to:
    G:\Adobe\Indesign\Cache\Recovery
Interestingly, the Indesign application recovery files still reside in the user directory above.   But the document recovery data moves to the G drive above.
There is no clear reason why Indesign quit loading today.  It worked fine since initial installation last year.  But separating the document recovery data from the application recovery data seems to fix the problem for now.

  • Firefox does not open after Windows 7 updates

After Windows 7 updates installed, Firefox 4.0.1 refuses to start. I click on the shortcut, the hourglass (blue circle in Windows 7) pops up for a couple of seconds, then it goes away, and no Firefox.
    Chrome and IE work fine.
I have followed the tips on the "Firefox won't start" pages.
In Task Manager, there is a 4,796k Firefox process, which I then end. If I attempt to start Firefox multiple times, I get different processes in Task Manager, of different sizes.
I removed and re-installed Firefox 4.0.1. It made no difference. I even chose to have it delete all my customizations. No luck.
I cannot start Firefox in Safe Mode. When I try, the same thing happens (hourglass, then nothing)
I cannot start the Profile Manager. I created a new user in Windows, logged in as that user, and tried starting Firefox, but the same thing happened. This leads me to believe that it is not a profile issue.
I do not get a crash report.
    Thank you for your help!

Which Windows 7 updates were installed? Were these rated as "Critical"?
Microsoft usually releases updates on 'Patch Tuesday' which always takes place on the second Tuesday of the month. That won't take place for another two weeks yet. I'm not aware of any out-of-band updates.

  • Loose FP connection after Windows XP update

After completing Windows XP update, I always loose the connection to the FP-2000. I've had this problem several times and it always happened after windoews update completed.
To reconnect to the FP-2000, I've tried all thinkable things: restarting Ethernet Card, other driver, changing parameters, restarting XP, restarting FP-2000 and and and. But there is only one solution: Turn off the whole test system (PC, PXI with MXI, FP-2000, Hub...) for at least 4 hours, then it will work again. I know it sounds strange, but that's how it is!
Does anybody know similar problems? Is there an other solution than waiting 4 hours after each update?
    Thanks for answering
    Sparti

I have searched all available resources but I couldn't find any hints about a behavior like that. All PCs in our office have the automatic Windows update option enabled but no one has ever experienced a behavior like that so it's a bit hard for me to suggest a reasonable solution.
    Here are some general ideas:
Is the Windows firewall activated (but if this was the case why should the issue be resolved after 4 hours???)?
Please check you PC's IP-configuration after the Windows update. Maybe the IP address got lost and for some reason your DHCP server reassigns a new one with a delay of several hours. If this was the case all network communication should be lost after the Windows update.
Try to reconfigure your IP settings in a command window with "ipconfig /renew".
Does the problem occurr with another PC, too?
I hope this gives you at least some ideas.

  • CD/DVD completely disappears after Windows XP updates

I had this happen twice now, on my 3 year old Toshiba Satellite P35-s605.
The internal CD/DVD drive works fine, then all of a sudden, it completely disappears from the system. Discs do not play, and the drive does not show up in Explorer.
Likewise, it's the same with my external USB CD/DVD drive; it works fine, then it no longer shows up even though the USB "boing" indicates that the computer reads that a device has been connected.
The last time it happened, I reinstalled the original recovery disk. That seemed to correct the problem. It disappeared again after a Windows XP update (I have not yet added any software besides the OS).
Has anyone had this problem, and has anyone solved it?

I have never heard of a Windows Update causing that sort of problem. It sounds like hardware.
Have you ever tried this fix?

  • No sound on my laptop after windows 10 update!

After updating my laptop to the new windows 10 a few days ago, ive only just noticed that the audio on my laptop does not work. I regurlaly connet my laptop to my TV using a HDMI cable so ive only just noticed this when i tried to play music without it. Ive tried all the suggested ideas on this forums; ive tried the device manager and tried to see if it needs an individual update but it says the driver is up to date, ive tried troubleshooting but again it says all drivers are working fine. It seems the problem is with the software on my laptop as when i connect it to my TV it works fine but when i try connecting earphones, it is the same problem. This is becomming very frustrating and i am thinking of reverting back to windows 8 to try and fix the problem. Please help!

Hi there ,  Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome! This is a great site to get answers and ask questions. I have looked into the issue you are having with your Sound after the Windows 10 Upgrade.  Have you tried in the Device Manager to update the driver that is currently installed? Have you tried to select "Find New Hardware" in the Device Manager?Have you tried to uninstall that current sound drivers? If not please try the following: 1. Uninstall the sound driver in Device Manager2. Restart your Notebook3. Reinstall the driver.  You can use the HP Support Assistant for drivers. Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant if you need it. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system that need updating for Windows 10. Please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices, as these could cause some issues. Have you tried the Disable and then Enable method?  If not, you can find this and other troubleshooting steps in the HP Notebook PCs - No Sound from Speakers (Windows 10, 8) document.  Here is another document called Resolving Headphones and Headset Problems (Windows 8). This document has more troubleshooting steps. Shows you how to uninstall the driver amongst other steps.  Please follow these provided troubleshooting steps, re-post and let me know how everything went. Thank you!Have a great day!

  • Can't turn on pen and touch after windows 10 update

Recently updated my HP TouchSmart 320 1030 to Windows 10. Pen and touch isn't working.  It does on the log on screen ONLY after the computer  turns on, but not after Windows opens!  I opened pen and touch in the control panel, it doesn't allow me to even select  "Touch Action" to change any settings, only "Double-tap" and "Press and Hold".  I went to "Tablet PC Settings" to "Calibrate the screen for pen and touch input", and attempted to "Setup" under CONFIGURE and "Calibrate" under DISPLAY, and in both cases nothing happened when I touched the screen.   Basicaly once i'm logged on to Windows NOTHING touchscreen works. I know the touchscreen WORKS (since it works famously at the LOGIN SCREEN), but something with the software once Windows 10 opens?  Please help.I did have pen and touch turned off when I was running Windows 7 and then I updated to windows 10 (maybe something to do with it?). Confused.I don't believe it's the updates fault I'm just frustrated it's not letting me turn it on or anything.

  • Firefox 13.0.1 (Win7 ) crashes after Windows defender update applied

    Windows 7 SP1
    Firefox 13.0.1
Upgraded to FF 13.0.1 with no problems encountered. The next day I restarted the system and installed the Windows Defender definition update released on 6/15 (11.27.2061.0 - KB915597) via Windows Update. Does it help if you create a new profile or uninstall and reinstall Firefox?
If you reinstall Firefox then be sure to remove the Firefox program folder to remove possibly left over files in it.
You can try to create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.
    See:
