After Windows XP reinstall....

I tried searching the forum but merely became more confused!
I have a 30gig ipod (purchased around dec '04)which is currently full of songs and play lists. After formatting my pc I am unaware of how to restore the song files (including purchased songs) back to the pc.
Is there a thread that can help guide me?
Thanks,
John-

Yeah do what Mitch says,
Just a note tho, when using yamipod, you will want your iPod set to "Enable DIsk Usage" or "Manual Update" (Which will set it to enable disk usage AND stop any auto updating)
TO do that you will connect the iPod, when iTUnes opens and throws you a prompt about the library being linked to another PC, just hit no then rightclick the ipod in iTUnes and hit options, now you can set it

  • Recover iTunes after Windows XP reinstall

I apologize if this has already been answered a number of times.  I have spent some time already searching for an answer.
My desktop computer's internal hard drive required a Windows XP SP3 reinstall, and thus reformat.  I have a copy of the My Music\iTunes folder on an external hard drive (the music media is inside that folder as well).  When I downloaded and reinstalled iTunes on my newly restored computer, it of course came in fresh and blank.  Because I still don't have a firm grasp of all the syncing rules and scenarios, I thought that connecting my iPad 3 and iPod Touch 3 to iTunes would restore everything contained on those devices into iTunes, but it did not.
To complicate matters, when Windows was reinstalled, a different username was created by accident.  So the absolute file paths in, for example, the XML library in my backup of iTunes on my external drive show a different path (if that makes a difference, and thus reflects what may also be in the database itself).  So I created a new user account on my machine with that same username, so the file paths match.  I then copied the iTunes from the external drive into the My Music folder under that new user account.  So I figured everything was good to go.  I then logged out and logged back in under the new user account, and launched iTunes.  But it went through the launching sequence as a brand new installation of iTunes under this user account, and came up empty.
How do I get myself back to where I was before Windows crashed on me.  I have a few dozen ripped albums and some purchased music on my iPod and iPad, a few apps on my iPod and a ton of purchased (and free) apps on my iPad.  So we're not just talking about music.
I appreciate any help anyone can give.  Thanks so much.
    Gary

"The devices see the reformatted drive as a different computer and that is the default warning when you attempt to sync to another computer."
True in the general case, when two computers are running iTunes with different libraries - in this case any iDevice can be synced with only one, and will present the "... is synched with another iTunes library ... Do you want to erase ...?" message if connected to a different one.  However, that behavior isn't because a different computer is detected - if an iTunes library is replicated from one PC to another (i.e., the iTunes database, media, and associated files are duplicated) then these will be seen as the same library for the purposes of synchronization.  Although the internals of the iTunes database can't readily be accessed, its reasonable to assume that this "library identity" is based on this data element, as listed within the iTunes Library.xml file:
Interestingly, this "Library Persistent ID" value is also used as the name of the first-level subfolder under iTunes\Album Artwork\Cache.  The basis of the iDevice-library dependence is - even if this is not the (only) way its implemented - definitely not hardware based. I run three different systems with iTunes, where the library is routinely replicated from the "master" to two secondary systems (using SyncToy and an external HDD):
With this configuration, I can connect an iDevice to any of the three systems and sync it as normal, without ever seeing the "... is synched with another iTunes library ... Do you want to erase ...?" message.
Given the scenario that the OP described, the iTunes Library.itl file now in use is, logically, the same as that before the export/reformat/restore operations - so the dreaded Do you want to erase ...? message shouldn't appear.

  • IPhone not seen in iTunes after Windows XP reinstall

    Hi
Can anybody please help me with this, I've tried googling the problem and checking the Apple support info but no luck.
When I plugged my iphone 3GS in, iTunes doesn't see it. (Windows recognises the device.)
This worked up until I reinstalled Windows XP (service pack 3) onto a new hard drive, and have installed the latest version of iTunes (10.6.3.25).
I had copied all my data from my old XP installation onto the new hard drive, including my iTunes directory (iphone sync data - apps, music) , so I just pointed iTunes at the directory and it happily loaded all my apps. Note: Version of iTunes was from 2011 - not sure if it was same, I think it was 10-something.
    Note: iphone is NOT jailbroken
    Steps I have already taken:
    - run through all the steps at support.apple.com/kb/TS1538
    - checked that my cable is ok (iphone charges and is recognised by Windows)
    - authorised my "new" computer.
    - tested my iphone - I went into a mac store and they plugged it in and it was picked up by itunes on their computer
    - disabled my virus protection while testing (AVG)
    - uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes, and rebooted my computer
    - confirmed Apple Mobile Device Support (AMDS) is installed, and restarted it
Has anybody else seen something like this when reinstalling Windows?

    DEVICE NOT RECOGNISED IN ITUNES
If you have connected your device to your computer and it does not appear in the side bar in iTunes then for Windows computers read http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538 or if you have a MAC then read http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1591 for troubleshooting steps.

  • How do I get  iTunes to recognize music after Windows XP reinstall?

Hello, recently I had to reinstall the OS on my desktop computer. I had backed up all of my data and copied back onto the hard drive, but iTunes no longer recognizes the entirety of the library. It will only recognize it if I click on a song, one at a time. Could someone please explain what I need to do in order to get the iTunes library back to its pre-OS install configuration? Thank you so much!

  • No sound after Windows XP reinstall

    # Hello Everyone,
I reinstalled Windows XP and now my sound isn't working. I have all the drivers installed, the card is acti've and shows as working in the Device Manager. When I start the computer, I get the Windows sound when Windows loads, at least the first couple of seconds of it, then it stops and no more sound. Any help will be appreciated.

    ' Rognarok,
. In Control Panel, Sound and Audio Devices, Audio tab, is your Soundblaster selected as the default Recording and Playback device? Also, you may want to place a check in the box next to "Use only default devices."
    2. In Control Panel, Administrati've Tools, click on Services. Make sure Windows Audio is started and set to Automatic.

  • HDMI Only sound option after windows 7 reinstall

My windows 7 install became corrupt in some way and would not let me install, so I reinstalled it. I downloaded all the drivers and windows updates that I have the several other times I've reinstalled windows. Since the reinstall, the only audio device thats been available is the HDMI output. It is the only option in the sound section of the control panel. Everything is hooked up properly and I have tried several different drivers. I have a 5.1 surround system hooked up.
My computer is the Hp Pavilion m8100y. The only driver available for this computer on the HP website is a lightscribe update, no sound drivers, or anything else for that matter. I tried drivers from several other sites but they either didn't work, said they weren't compatible with this version of windows, or that they were not compatable with the hardware. The sound worked perfectly until the reinstall.

I had already tried that one twice, and just did again. HDMI is stil the only option. When I look at the list of hardware on my computer, theres 2 High Definition Audio Controllers, 4 NVIDIA High Definition Audio (which I assume come from my gfx card), and the Realtek High Definition Audio. I don't now if this information helps at all, but those are the various audio devices my computer says are installed, and they all say working properly and that their drivers are up to date.
I had the windows 8 consumer preview installed on a different HDD, and up until windows 7 was finished installing on this one, the audio continued to work on windows 8. Since it finished installing, I also have not been able to access the HDD with windows 8 through windows explorer (it just doesn't show up) and when I try to boot it from the BIOS boot menu, it just loads this HDD with windows 7.

  • Reinstalling Creative Suite 4 Web Premium after Windows 7 reinstall

I find it completely unacceptable that Adobe is unable to provide a way for me to make use of my $2800 investment in CS4 Web Premium. The installation disk doesn't work, the downloadable installation files don't work, support staff's direction to the volume licensing website that they say I need to use results in Adobe not recognising the login I am using here, despite the fact that the same login is what volume licensing originally instructed me to use for this software when I bought it four years ago. The forums are full of people reporting similar enquiries that result in dead ends and locked discussions. After hours of seeking I have no solution. Sorry that my enquiry is so similar to that of many others, but since Adobe is unwilling to help, does anyone here know what to do?

kglad, thank you. Your response comes with a much better attitude than Mylenium's, and I'd much rather wait a little longer than hear from him again. I'm new to the forum, and didn't know it involved 100% volunteers, because an Adobe chat consultant referred to the people here as "our experts" while refusing to answer my extremely simple question. Volunteers don't deserve ranting, but Adobe fully deserves what I said, and I would have preferred that someone simply asked for the additional information that's required in order to provide help rather than coming here to abuse me about it. If Mylenium's day is ruined so easily, I'm not sure that he does have better things to do than listen to me. I can easily make an attempt at providing better information - I just wasn't going to spend more time on it while heading for bed just to satisfy Mylenium's criticisms. I'll do so in a separate discussion.

  • System does not recognize USB drive after Windows 7 reinstall

Not wanting Windows 8.1, I decided to install Windows 7.  I used Tuxboot to make a bootable USB stick drive to run GParted, which allowed me to repartition to the hard drive in NTFS, from which I was able to install my old copy of Windows 7 Home Premium from another USB stick drive.  I fully understand that I need to load in a bunch of drivers, and I downloaded them and put them on yet another USB stick drive.  The key here is that the BIOS properly recognizes when a bootable stick drive is attached.
So I am all ready to run the driver EXE files, but I need to somehow get those files onto the hard drive.  However, in Windows, the USB stick drive is not recognized!  And of course, the wireless modem is not recognized as well, so I am stuck as there is no way to get those driver EXE files onto the hard drive!  I tried using Tuxboot to run FreeDOS & Clonezilla, but I couldn't seem to get the job done (in FreeDOS, there only seemed to be the A: & C: drives, corresponding to the OS & stick drive, without there being a drive corresponding to the hard drive.)
I don't know what to do!

    Hi:
Download and install the AMD Chipset Drivers and reboot.
This set of drivers should install the smbus and usb 3 controllers.

You need to contact support directly for activation/deactivation and other installation issues. It’s usually possible to start a live chat, if an Adobe agent is free, and often to get the problem fixed right away. You will need your serial number.

    Hi @raghavraj ,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I did some research into that error message and it appears as if it is a virus or malware. I would recommend that you run your anti-virus and anti-malware software to fix this issue.  It appears to be related to a Conduit search program or add-on.

Welcome to the HP Forums  MillaMagia,
I see by your post that the USB isn't being recognized.
I can help you with this issue.
Are you using the same USB cable? (known good USB cable)
You want to use the normal USB slot 2.0 cable and not the latest USB 3.0.
USB 3.0 are supposed to be backwards compatible.
Try another USB port on the Laptop, some of the USB ports are more powered then others.
I have provided a document to see if the printer is partially recognized in the device manager, which is causing the printer not to be recognized again. (the uninstall from the CD should have removed the entry and the printer from the registry)
Leave the printer turned on and the USB cable connected directly to the computer and the printer's power cord directly into a wall outlet.
How do I get into Windows Device Manager?
Here is a document for Identifying problems in Windows Device Manager.
Check to see if there are any hardware driver conflicts, you might see a ! mark or a red x beside a device with a conflict or unknown device, look under universal serial bus controllers, look for USB printing support or mass storage device, delete the entry by right clicking and select uninstall, OK.
Let me know how it was listed. (screen shots welcome)
If this is a Laptop then check the power management settings.
Access the device manager. Windows 8-How do I access the Device Manager.
Select universal serial bus controllers from the list, for each USB root hub, right click and left click on properties, for power management remove the check mark for "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". It allows the computer to limit or turn off power for this device.
Disconnect the USB, run the full uninstall and reinstall the printer software again.
If you need further assistance, let me know.
    Have a nice day!
    Thank You.

  • Tried to upgrade and after uninstalling and reinstalling several times, keep getting "procedure entry point could not be located in dynamic link library" followed by "iTunes was not installed properly"  Error 7.....Help, please??

Tried to upgrade as instructed and after uninstalling and reinstalling (even back to the former iTunes which I was happy with)several times, keep getting message "Procedure entry point could not be located in dynamic link library"  followed by "iTunes was not installed properly"  "Error 7".    Help, please??

Entry point errors can usually be fixed by deleting the offending dll, then repairing the component it is part of from the programs and features control panel. Unfortunately you neglected to include the detail of which dll is mentioned.
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.
