AG1232 Acess point and HP 4100 Switch
Hello,
I have a Watchguard X500 Firewall, an AG1232 AP, and a HP Switch. The switch has three vlan's on it. The DEFAULT_VLAN, INTERNET, VOIP. I have two SSID's on the AP, one is in guest mode using VLAN 72. THE OTHER is Private for internal use using VLAN 1 which is the default VLAN id for the HP Switch (DEFAULT_VLAN). The private net is running 192.168.4.0. The ip for the AP is from this net. I have a int enabled on the X500 with a dhcp providing ip's for the guest subnet which is 192.168.5.0 on VLAN 72. The Guest SSID's VLAN is also 72.
Here is my problem:
I can connect to the private net using wireless no problem, If I use the public (which is broadcasting) it connects but does not receive an ip. If I manually configure the IP it still doesn't work. I can connect physically to the ports configured for the 72 VLAN on my switch and be able to get the ip from the X500, and surf the internet provided that I manually type in the external DNS servers address.
The AP's port connects to a trunk port using the following command:
trunk b20-b21 trk2 trunk
The ethernet int of the AP is connected to b20 on the switch. I have a policy set on the Firewall for the 192.168.5.0 net forwarding http port 80 out to the external wan link.
I am pretty sure I am messing up a couple of places but not sure where? Do I set a policy up for DHCP server and client? I can physically connect to the 72 VLAN and get an ip, so I am thinking the problem is either with my trunk or some config in the AP? I know I read somewhere in the forum about the Native VLAN, that it needs to be separate? Does that mean that I need to take all the ports of the HP Switch's default_vlan and put them on another VLAN so the native vlan is used for management only? Also, is there a way of being able to use my internal dhcp without comprimising security, and being able to assign guest ip's for the 72 VLAN, I am more interested in the DNS part than anything else. The X500 dhcp is working fairly decent. The X500 also serves as a router. I am using static routes on it, as the network is fairly small. Total of 50 folks. I am pushing these folks to buy Cisco equipment from now on!

What was the solution? We ran into an issue with an HP switch and Cisco wireless. We replaced the HP switch with a Cisco switch and it worked fine, no changes on the AP. Let me know what you did, it might have been something we missed on the HP.

The one exception is for Layer 2 deployments, which are not supported by CAPWAP.
You can deploy CAPWAP controllers and LWAPP controllers on the same network. The CAPWAP-enabled software allows access points to join either a controller running CAPWAP or LWAPP. The only exception is the Cisco Aironet 1140 Series Access Point, which supports only CAPWAP and therefore joins only controllers running CAPWAP. For example, an 1130 series access point can join a controller running either CAPWAP or LWAPP whereas an 1140 series access point can join only a controller running CAPWAP.

I have an iPad with an ID that is associated with 1 credit card but I don't wan't to use that credit card to make puchases. Can I switch to a different user ID and make puchases on a different credit card and/or iTunes redeemed points and then switch back to my original ID (before the 90 days wait period us up)?

Maps program does not work. In standard it only shows a grid. If I ask for a route it shows start and end point and three route boxes but nothing else. It does show directions. If I switch to hybrid it shows to routes but no roads. Background is a blur.

Connection between lightweight access point and switch?

I am a bit confused about cisco 1000 series access point connection. On wireless lan controller and lightweight access point basic configuration example document id 69719 (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6366/products_configuration_example09186a0080665cdf.shtml), I understood the access point has two vlans associated with (vlan 3 and 4). Am I correct?
Why is connection between access point and catalyst port just access port rather 802.1q trunk? How vlan traffic can traverse from the access point to controller?

The AP itself does not need to be a trunked port, but the uplink to the controller does. When using a Lightweight enviroment, all the traffic passes thru an encrypted LWAPP tunnel from the AP to the controller, and then gets sent out the correct VLAN interface on the controller. -
I have got a 13 inch MacBook Pro and it got stuck in a loop so I switched it off by holding the power button down and now when I switch it on the apple logo appears then I get a blank slot at the bottom of the screen then the circle appears and rotates and then it switches off again, I have tried starting it again with the system disc that came with it when it was new but it makes no difference. Is there a sequence that I can use to force it to start.

iPhones are not user servicable and Apple does not sell iPhone parts at all. I'd be surprised if you were actually able to back it up at this point. It sounds like it's completely borked. -
My macbook seems to be going crazy. At certain points (and for hours) I get the oh snap page on chrome, safari doesnt work, macbook wont let me create any files or for example upload music to itunes. I restored my mac so im sure its not a malware problem. The only thing that solves it is switching off and on , but sometimes I have to do that for 6-7 times before its ok or wait for a few hours. This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2. -
It's simple... I want the Illustrator pen tool to ALWAYS make corner annchor points and NEVER smooth. Right now I have to convert every single one of them, or I have to do a work around every time I draw a line and make one of the handles disappear. Is there some simple setting out there that will just "make it so?"@
The video I am watching this guy is just dragging every line to make curves. And every anchor point is a corner. He is not switching back and forth between the pen and the anchor points tool, and he is not using the convert points tool. He draws a curved line and starts another straight line only to curve it with a click and a drag. It is super efficient, and I could save a world of time if I could figure out what he is doing.

Ipod shows folder with exclamation point and computer won't recognize
My ipod resets itself each time that I try to turn it on, and then flashes the folder with the exclamation point. I have tried to restore it and update software but the computer won't recognize it. A few days before it broke the ipod would skip through some songs that it was unable to play for some reason, and now it makes a clicking sound when trying to start up. Did it die, or is there a way to fix this?

4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
6. Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”
For Window computer
Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
Now select “Format”
Eject your iPod and do a Reset
Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”

Tips

If you have tried trouble shooting your iPod to no avail after all the steps above, chances are your iPod has a hardware problem. The iPod's built-in Diagnostic Mode is a quick and easy way to determine if you have a "bad" iPod.
You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe.
Press and hold the following combination of buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Menu" and "Select"
The Apple logo will appear and you should feel the hard drive spinning up. Press and hold the following sequence of buttons:
iPod 1G to 3G: "REW", "FFW" and "Select"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Back" and "Select"
You will hear an audible chirp sound (3G models and higher) and the Apple logo should appear backwards. You are now in Diagnostic Mode. Navigate the list of tests using "REW" and "FFW". Have I tried this myself? No, I am afraid to do it myself as I am squeamish about tinkering inside electronic devices, I have few experiences that either I broke the parts (which are normally tiny or fragile) or failed to put the parts back to the main case. Therefore, I agree with suggestion to have it fixed by a Pro.

Exclamation point and folder and nothing else
Hi... I have an older 20 g iPod. I dropped it (only 3 feet but hard surface) last week and after that it malfunctioned and then stopped functioning. I have tried the reset several times without success. My Mac does not recognize it either in the information about this Mac or the disk utility or the iPod updater. I would love to be able to revive it but had assuimed it dead. I can get an apple on the screen when I do a reset and the battery icon shows that it is charging ... and then the exclamation point with the folder comes up.

Have I tried this myself? No, I am afraid to do it myself as I am squeamish about tinkering inside electronic devices, I have few experiences that either I broke the parts (which are normally tiny or fragile) or failed to put the parts back to the main case. Silly doubt abt access-points and bridges
hi all i have read cisco doc wherein clients connecting to access-points and also where the cisco access-point is working like a bridge and still clients can connect to it .
then any specific reason why people generally connect clients to access-points.
i mean is there any benefit of either method over the other.
any help and guidance would be really helpful.

sushilIn short, it is preferred to have users connect to access points.... 99% of the time. You can use a wireless bridge (that is associated to an AP) that is connected to a switch/hub to supply network connectivity to wired users off the switch/hub. There are also access points that can be used as a bridge for building point to point connectivity.
Look at the home users with wireless.... it allows then to move from place to place (as long as there is coverage) without having to be wired in. -

Channel Utilization
The 802.11, 802.11b, and 802.11g standards use the same 2.4 GHz band. All must interoperate with each other, which introduces additional overhead reducing channel throughput. Many sites already have products using the Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz band. Additionally, there are many other products that use the same 2.4 GHz frequencies as used by Wi-Fi. Other products include Bluetooth, cordless phones, video game controllers, surveillance cameras, and microwave ovens.
Before the installation of the Cisco Unified Wireless Network, a site can be tested for channel interference and utilization with tools from AirMagnet, Wild Packets, Cognio, and others. The Wireless Control System (WCS) AP On-Demand Statistics Display report provides a spectrum review of the following:
•Noise by channel
•Interference by channel
•Client count versus RSSI
•Client count versus SNR
•Channel radar detection versus time

my "go to in point" and "go to out point" keyboard shortcuts are not working, and the default keys aren't either? any help would be amazing! I use these keys a million times a hour and since I have switched to cc I cant get them to work. track selection makes no difference or if there are markers on the timeline or not.

any help?Well that still didn't make any kind of difference. I would just do without it but I've becomes really use to it with Avid for so long. I have to admit there are a lot of small moments like this that makes me miss Avid. Any other suggestions? My questions revolve around the same point.
Are there any significance in running eigrp or any other routing protocol over this BFD link?
Is the Dual active scenario detected by BFD or BFD notifies a routing protocol like eigrp and in turn dual active is detected?
Should I suppress the eigrp HELLOs on these interfaces to get rid of the log message?

Dynamic VLAN assignment and Layer 3 switching on 300 series
I have a SG300-28P switch. I just read in the Administration Guide that, when in Layer 3 mode, the switch doesn't support MAC-based VLAN or Dynamic VLAN Assignment.
So, in order to assign a client to a VLAN based on their MAC or based on the response of a RADIUS server, we have to disable layer 3 features. Without layer 3 switching, the switch is unable to act as a default gateway and forward packets between VLANs. As a result, the VLANs can't communicate in any way, or access the internet, unless a separate router is connected to every VLAN. Right?
I'm new to VLAN configuration and layer 3 switching so I wanted to check my understanding. Doesn't this limitation significantly reduce the usefulness of the DVA feature?

Your concept about packet forwarding is correct. With a layer 2 switch, there must be something directing traffic with multiple subnets for intervlan communication or something that provides an IP route to give the request a path back for the request.
The usefulness for the DVA feature, is not particularly limited to the switch as the switch will correctly assign the VLAN for you, as VS the L3 switch mode, you're dealing with IP addresses. In any scenario, you're going to require a router to get to the internet since the switch does not support NAT.
Additionally, if you're router does not support VLAN, the L3 switch feature would still be the solution since you should be able to make a static route pointing back to the switch to allow any subnet to traverse the single media. It would still beg the question, how to assign VLAN dynamically.
The answer, although (in my opinion is terrible) would be GVRP. But, this application would require ALL of your network cards to be GVRP Enable / Capable which most likely is not the scenario for you (or most anyone else for that matter).
