Again, lost purchases

Once again I have lost purchases. I didn't have a disk to burn the $90+ I spent yesterday in the iTunes Store and this morning my Library disappeared and I had to recover it. When I did the Purchase History was wiped out, again. It is some, part, or all my fault, but so what? Am I expected to purchase these songs again? Why hasn't iTunes Store found a way so that we can download our purchases again. Even Microsoft lets us do that. I am working in Angola now but I am home in Bangkok next week and there is another solution to paying twice for the same product. ... yes, yes, yes... if I had the songs on my iPod I could transfer back. Some I do and some I don't... but what about when iTunes decided that I don't have permission to play the songs on this computer? ... even if I just downloaded with the computer. That has happened more than once too. Is there anything I am overlooking?

Step 1: Shout you Fracking B... at the iTunes screen 10 times.
Step 2: Through dumb luck I had some pieces of a folder called Previous iTune Libraries in my iTunes file and I was able to use Add Folder to Library and recover some of them. This was not my first rodeo.
Step 3: Go to my Songbird which has a feature of reading the iTunes Library and importing it into the Songbird Library. It also allows you to export the Songbird Library back into iTunes Library. It is a clumsy way of backing up a Library, but I have been doing this a while.
Step 4: All music files I have are in multiple backups, but parial files as mp3 collections which I get here and there and have ripped at one time or another. This is the messy part because Steps 3 and 4 give me lots of duplicates.
Step 5: Corrected an error in Preferences so that everything goes into once place now: my iTunes files on a 1.5 TB portable hard drive. I don't like this much because sometimes the portable HDs loose their ID even though I have fixed the letter (A MUST DO to keep your iTunes linked to your Library.)
Step 6: Be sure to consolidate your library after every download so that a copy goes into your iTunes Library and it also goes into your mp3 backup files.
Step 7: Delete or at least uncheck all the duplicates (My 30,000 goes down to 18,000 on the first pass and then lower as I consolidate broken albums due to mispellings, etc.
If this sounds like a lot of fustration and work and hours spent you are right. With my new 1.5 TB hard drive I can finally use the back up library to disk option. My library was always too big before with all my work related things I had to save too. Life intrudes on my iTune dominated life sometimes.
This is also caused when I buy songs on iTunes on an impluse but don't have a CD to immediately back up the purchase. With 5 portable HDs between 500 GB and 1.5 TB I don't really think I should have to carry around DVD-RWs too.
Good luck.

  • Lost purchased music .

My wee mac mini had the so called 'spinning ball of death' and I lost a whole lot of my purchased music . I have since bought a new imac (the White one)and I was in the Apple store today asking how I could get my music back and onto my new mac . The store assistant said I just do it using the deauthorise computer from the drop down menu at the top of the computer but it wants me to click on the song / album and do it that way - but the songs are not on the computer . Does anyone know how I can get my lost music ? Thanks in advance .

If you didn't make a back-up of your purchases to restore from then I'm sorry to say that the policy on lost purchases is that you have to pay to download them again:
"Once a Product is purchased and you receive the Product, it is your responsibility not to lose, destroy, or damage the Product, and Apple shall be without liability to you in the event of any loss, destruction, or damage." iTunes Store: Purchased content can be downloaded only once
You could try contacting the iTunes Music Store Customer Service and you might be able to persuade them to sanction a second free download. There have been occasional reports in the iTunes forum of this happening, however just be aware that they are not under any obligation to do so. If you click on any of the links on this page you'll find a space at the bottom to email your query: iTMS Customer Service
If you have an iPod that has the songs on it, the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer

After 4 repetitions I think I got that straight.
    Answer: Return the CD.
Or did you mean this was an album you bought from iTunes, in which case it really isn't a "CD" (which is a hard, plastic, shiny disc) and I'm at risk of getting confused.  If it is a corrupt file that you downloaded, delete the file and try downloading it again.

  • Upgrade to 7.4.3.1 - Lost Purchased Music, Playlists and Library

I upgraded to 7.4.3.1 last weekend. This weekend I start iTunes and none of my 100+ songs are listed in my library, all of my playlists are gone (replaced with the generic 90's Music, Music Videos, My Top Rated, Recently Added, Recently Played, Top 25 Most Played) playlists - all of which are empty. Also under the "Store" heading...my Purchased folder is gone. I must have had 30+ purchased songs in there.
Any ideas how to get everything back?

Hi, I had the EXACT same thing happen to me.
Upgrade to 7.4.3.1 - Lost Purchased Music, Playlists and Library.
I let iTunes update last Sunday 10/14/07 and today I opened it up and Vista started rebuilding the library, then crashed and said it did not have a solution to this problem and shut iTunes down.
It created a, iTunes Library (Damaged).itl file.
I tried the help file that said to drag the C:\Users\ME\Music\iTunes Music folder onto my Library folder but it crashed after transferring 20 songs or so.
All of my music is in this iTunes Music folder so it is just a matter of trying to get iTunes and Vista to rebuild my Library so I can recreate my Playlist.
So I will keep looking for a solution, but this is getting silly !

I lost purchased music on my computer that was purchased in the last 4 to 5 months because of virus. I did not back up the few songs I purchased on cd. I also lost all data on my Ipod nano and had to restore it. How do I download these purchases I lost?

Go to the iTunes Store, log into your account, and click the Purchases link under the Quick Links. From there you should be able to re-download some or all of your purchased content. Note that not all content has been licensed for re-downloading in all countries at this time; you can see what content you can download here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5085
You can also re-download content using an iOS device.
    For more information, see:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519
This if course will not apply to songs you did not buy through the iTunes Store.
    Regards.

Restore it from a backup, use the Transfer Purchases command in iTunes if it's on an iPod, iPad, or iPhone, or click here and ask. Backing up your purchases is your responsibility.

I received an Keynote update notice on my Mac Air. I updated and now can not get into my saved keynote docs. I am being asked to upgrade again and purchase the upgrade. Anyone else having this issue?

Try this repair, ensure you complete all the tasks and in the order shown:
1  delete all the iWork applications if you have them, not just Keynote, use Appcleaner from Mac Update to           do this, its freeware
2  restart the Mac;   Apple menu > restart
3  immediately after the start chime,  press the shift key until you see the Apple symbol.
let it fully boot up,  it will take longer as the OS is repairing the drive
4  when fully booted, go to Applications > Utilities > Disc Utility; click on the boot drive  then First Aid tab and           click  repair disc permissions
5  when complete, restart the Mac normally
6  install Keynote from the Mac App Store
Please report back to let us know if this helped.

  • Do I have to pay again to redownload lost purchased songs?

Something happened on my laptop where all my playlists disappeared along with all songs I've purchased from I-tunes over the last 3 years.  I've found this list on I-tunes, but will I have to pay for them all again if I re-download them?

Not if you follow the directions:

  • Lost purchases, having to wait 7 days again for my lost purchase.

I tried to make a purchase of $1500 through my best buy credit card online last week and there was an issue with the website in which it told me to place the order through the phone. I tried doing that but it happens that they took out the money from my best buy credit card and i had to wait 7 days. Over the phone they could not resolve anything and there was absolutely nothing special about the service. Again today i tried to make the same purchase and to my surprise it happened again and the money is missing from my best buy credit card and no one has been of any help all they do is tell me that i have to wait once again 7 days to be able to make this purchase. I am incredibly upset and i would not recommend this service to anyone. There was no purchase generated and still they took out the money from the credit card so now i cant even go to the store to buy it in person.

    Hello carlosj1226,
Welcome to the forum. Sounds like you've had a hard time when trying to place an online order, and I can completely understand your frustration. I would be upset also if my credit card funds were held until the pre-authorization was removed, and I am very sorry this has happened to you twice.
Using the e-mail you registered on the forum, I was unable to locate a cancelled order. Therefore, I have some further details I would like to discuss with you, so I will be sending you a private message. • Lost purchased songs

Today when I was syncing my iPod and downloading the new software on my iPod touch 2nd generation. I looked at my music on it, I had lost all of the music that I had bought on my iPod. What do I do to get it back. It was a lot and I want those songs back

Ok, so to be clear you have purchased some number of songs from the iTunes Store to your Touch and this was the first time you connected to the computer to sync since you purchased them. In iTunes were you logged into the same iTunes account that you used to purchase the songs on your iPod Touch. If not, this is why you're songs are gone.
The police of the iTunes Store is music can only be downloaded once and then it is your responsibility to back them up. You can email the iTunes Store, tell them what happened, and ask to download the songs again. Some say they will allow you to do so. Once. So back them up this time and be careful when syncing.

  • Lost purchased itunes music

my computer went down and i took it to a store to have it repaired, he restored just the my documents and it looks like I lost all my purchased itunes music as the "purchased music" folder is empty. I had several thousand songs that I had bought when I "check for purchases" it says music can only be downloaded once, is there any way to restore this music or get ppurchased songs downloaded again?

Use the form on this page to request a free redownload, or use the Transfer Purchases feature if applicable. If neither of these works, you will need to purchase the content again to get them back; Apple needs to pay the copyright holders for each download from the iTunes Store other than podcasts, album artwork, and iPod touch/iPhone applications.
