Agent log files

Just installing version 2, deployed the server and 3 agents. Only 1 agent is reporting to the server. I have enabled debug on the agent and reset the service, but where are the logs located ?
All agents are SLES 10 x86, no firewall blocks.
I've increased logging to verbose, and reset the service but on the SLES boxes I can't see anything posted to /var/logs or /var/opt/novell/logs
Documentation doesn't seem to cover log files, I followed a default install as per docs.

Steve,
Two things. First, the File Reporter agent's log files are stored in
/var/opt/novell/filereporter/agent/log.
Second, did this server previously have any NFR 1.0.x components
installed? Not just the Agent, but potentially the Engine or DSI as well?

I searched over google for this issue and found some thing related with Group policy, but there is no exact cause and solution found for this. Could you please some one help me on this.

    1. On the affected machine, disable the SCCM Agent. To do this, you can run the following commands:
Disable the Service --> sc config CcmExec start= disabled
Stop the Service  net stop CcmExec
    2. Ensure that the following policy is not enforced on the system:
User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows Update\Remove access to use all Windows Update Features
Check this first in the local system policy (you can pull this up using gpedit.msc – Local Group Policy Editor). After that, please run RSOP.msc and ensure that the policy is not configured either. This will give you information from domain policies too.
If the policy is enabled please either remove the policy or disable it.
    3. Restart the Automatic Updates service.
    4. Now, from the command line, run the following command:
Configure Proxy  proxycfg.exe –p “WSUS SERVER FQDN”
By doing this, we are configuring WinHTTP so that server access in upper case is also bypassed.
At this point, we need to test an update scan. Since the SMS Host Agent service is disabled and stopped, we won’t be able to use the agent to run the scan. In this case, we would need to run a scan using the command below:
    wuauclt /resetauthorization /detectnow
Check Windowsupdate.log for the outcome of the testing
How to Bypass Proxy server for testing purpose using proxycfg untility. (More details http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/ms761351(v=vs.85).aspx). Also find the registry entries you can check for bypass list – “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\

  • Log Reader Agent: transaction log file scan and failure to construct a replicated command

I encountered the following error message related to Log Reader job generated as part of transactional replication setup on publisher. As a result of this error, none of the transactions propagated from publisher to any of its subscribers.
    Error Message
2008-02-12 13:06:57.765 Status: 4, code: 22043, text: 'The Log Reader Agent is scanning the transaction log for commands to be replicated. Approximately 24500000 log records have been scanned in pass # 1, 68847 of which were marked for replication, elapsed time 66018 (ms).'.
2008-02-12 13:06:57.843 Status: 0, code: 20011, text: 'The process could not execute 'sp_replcmds' on ServerName.'.
2008-02-12 13:06:57.843 Status: 0, code: 18805, text: 'The Log Reader Agent failed to construct a replicated command from log sequence number (LSN) {00065e22:0002e3d0:0006}. Back up the publication database and contact Customer Support Services.'.
2008-02-12 13:06:57.843 Status: 0, code: 22037, text: 'The process could not execute 'sp_replcmds' on 'ServerName'.'.
Replication agent job kept trying after specified intervals and kept failing with that message.
    Investigation
I could clearly see there were transactions waiting to be delilvered to subscribers from the followings:
    SELECT * FROM dbo.MSrepl_transactions -- 1162
    SELECT * FROM dbo.MSrepl_commands -- 821922
The following steps were taken to further investigate the problem. They further confirmed how transactions were in queue waiting to be delivered to distribution database
-- Returns the commands for transactions marked for replication
    EXEC sp_replcmds
-- Returns a result set of all the transactions in the publication database transaction log that are marked for replication but have not been marked as distributed.
    EXEC sp_repltrans
-- Returns the commands for transactions marked for replication in readable format
    EXEC sp_replshowcmds
    Resolution
Taking a backup as suggested in message wouldn't resolve the issue. None of the commands retrieved from sp_browserreplcmds with mentioned LSN in message had no syntactic problems either.
    exec sp_browsereplcmds @xact_seqno_start = '0x00065e220002e3d00006'
In a desperate attempt to resolve the problem, I decided to drop all subscriptions. To my surprise Log Reader kept failing with same error again. I thought having no subscription for publications log reader agent would have no reason to scan publisher's transaction log. But obviously I was wrong. Even adding new log reader using sp_addLogreader_agent after deleting the old one would not be any help. Restart of server couldn't do much good either.
    EXEC sp_addlogreader_agent
    @job_login = 'LoginName',
    @job_password = 'Password',
    @publisher_security_mode = 1;
When nothing else worked for me, I decided to give it a try to the following procedures reserved for troubleshooting replication
--Updates the record that identifies the last distributed transaction of the server
    EXEC sp_repldone @xactid = NULL, @xact_segno = NULL, @numtrans = 0, @time = 0, @reset = 1
    -- Flushes the article cache
    EXEC sp_replflush
    Bingo !
Log reader agent managed to start successfully this time. I wish if I could have used both commands before I decided to drop subscriptions. It would have saved me considerable effort and time spent re-doing subscriptions.
    Question
Even though I managed to resolve the error and have replication funtioning again but I think there might have been some better solution and I would appreciate if you could provide me some feedback and propose your approach to resolve the problem.

    Hi Hilary,
Will the below truncate the log file marked for replication, is there any data loss, when we execute this command, can you please help me understand, the internal working of this command.
    EXEC sp_repldone @xactid = NULL, @xact_segno = NULL, @numtrans = 0, @time = 0, @reset = 1

    hi
Looks like the message numbers you are processing in the function module CRM_MESSAGE_COLLECT are only for 'errors'.
    Please go to Transaction: CRMC_MSGS
Look at the following Application Areas
    CRM_ORDER
    CRM_ORDERADM_H
    CRM_ORDERADM_I
    CRM_ORDER_MISC
    CRM_ORDER_OUTPUT
Select one of the above and double click 'Single Messages' towards your left side on the screen. Select the relavant message number from the list and check the 'S' flag. Press 'F1' (help) on this box and you will see the following.
Only error messages are saved in the processing log. If a message definitely should be saved - contrary to this rule - then the indicator needs to be set.
You need to make sure that a message marked like this can be deleted again - by calling up the function module CRM_MESSAGES_DELETE in the appropriate place in the program.
When you do these steps, please note the message 'Do not make any changes (SAP data)'. This is not tested and used from my side. Please see if this impacts other functions. I am not sure. Do necessary R&D before you proceed further. Please explore tables CRMC_MESSAGES_S and CRMC_MESSAGES and see if this helps.
    Reward if helps

  • How to trace log file of Lumira Agent

    Hi All,
I found Lumira Client log file in "C:\Program Files\SAP Lumira\Desktop\debug.log". It maintains all logs like registerResourcePath,Registering Datasource, etc.
But Lumira Agent not maintain any log for
how many new rows added in local data source or cloud data source?
any connection error for Lumira cloud?
    any Scheduler error for starting?
    refreshing start time?
    etc
Is it any tool or any file that maintain log?
    Thanks,
    Somnath A. Kadam

    Hi,
    1. an indicator of the # delta rows is not something that exists in the product yet. it would make a nice enhancement actually.
    2. Yes, the lumira desktop log file (as discussed in your other thread) would capture cloud login errors. but obviously, it is not possible for you to see the traces from the cloud infrastructure.
    3. the refresh timestamp would be maintained on the resulting scheduled document (information in the footer)
    4. Internally, we are asking for information about tracing the Agent - this is a very valid point.
I believe that these issues are also being tracked internally via your Support ticket? personally, i would recommend that you focus on that investigation with engineering.

  • Total lock-ups with fan running - translate system.log file please!?

Hi, all. My late 2005 2.3 gig dual G5 has been experiencing random lock ups for as long as I can remember. My system is up to date and I have tested each pair of the 5 gigs of ram that I have and the system freezes with each pair. It can happen at any time, when I am doing absolutely nothing, for example, overnight. I am at my wits end!
Here's the system log file for the latest freezes. Can anyone tell me what's going on here??? I really need to get to the root of this problem. Thanks so so much in advance.

    Hi-
The machine seems to be having trouble with loading certain drivers, but, as this isn't a crash log, and doesn't show the "hang-up" or freeze, it's hard to tell.
    Noted possibilities are:
-Microsoft keyboard (possible USB power problem)
-firmtek driver (from archive) questionable due to the "archive" annotation
-Wacom tablet driver, causing system problems
Running in Safe mode without freezes would help to determine if one of these drivers is the problem.
Other possibilities are outdated drivers, or simply a need to reinstall the OS.
If unnecessary, removing the driver(s) would be a good idea.
External USB and Firewire devices are all suspect, should all be disconnected, revert to Apple keyboard, and test system performance. Adding one device at a time, and testing each will be necessary to clear each device.
I have experienced system trouble when a Wacom tablet was not connected, but the driver was left installed.
Disabling the driver from Startup items may be necessary to test without the Wacom tablet connected.

Until the client agent is installed, smsts.log will be in C:\Windows\Temp.
That won't help you troubleshoot the client agent installation failure though. For Windows Installer installations, 1603 is a generic error code that means you needs to examine the verbose msi log file (client.msi.log in this case) in depth. Searching
for the string "return code 3" and then scanning the lines above this will lead you to exact item that failed.

  • System Update 5.01.0005 hangs every attempt on my X121e (log files inline)

Hi, I installed TVSU on my x121e laptop and it hangs on 95% on every attempt, like 5th time now. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall and I am using the latest version, I think, which is 5.01.0005.
Note that the system totally freezes on me. Nothing responds and Ctrl+Alt+Delete does not do anything. Only way is to shut down using the power button.
    System:
    ThinkPad x121e (30456UG)
    Windows 8 Pro 64-bit (v6.2 build 9200)
Any ideas on what I can do to get it running? I don't know how to attach log files so I pasted them in full.

  • How to fetch and display arbitrary log files from a managed host?

We are creating a small management portal for a custom application and need a way to display, in a browser, the contents of an arbitrary log file located on an EM managed host. The effect we are looking for is similar to what you get when you show the contents of a database alert log using EM.
I want to extend the EM agent to get the log and display the contents, but see two problems: (1) it seems like we would have to schedule the fetch of the log contents to happen on a regular basis and would not be able to do it on demand and (2) storing the results in the EM repository seems like it could consume a pile of storage, even if it only stores the logs for 24 hours.
I am pretty sure we can bypass the repository somehow because I think the "show database alert log" EM process does so. Of course, I can't really be sure how this code is getting the alert log, but it seems reasonable to assume it is using the management agent.
Is there some API for the EM Agent that I am missing?
    Any ideas would be appreciated.

From within OEM it doesnt look possible. User defined metrics (UDM) can only return number or a string. The alertlog fetch is done via alertlogViewer.pl while being passed a couple of parameters.
OEM does have a preliminary/rough api available at http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/oem/emx/index.html but I havent seen anyone make use of it yet.
If you use just a web connection then you will probably run into security issues as a web server can usually only view/access stuff under their htmldoc dir.
Seems like some non-OEM very custom code is what you seek..

  • Error for Generating a log file

    Hi Cezar sanos,
i am trying to generate a log file for ODI with details like who logged in and what is is doing kind of things.
For this i am executing the command like
    lagentscheduler.bat "-PORT=20910" "-NAME=localagent" "-V=2" > C:\OraHome_1\logs\agent1.log.
But its getting the error like
A JDK is required to execute Web Services with OracleDI. You are currently using a JRE.
    OracleDI: Starting Scheduler Agent ...
    Starting Oracle Data Integrator Agent...
    Version : 10.1.3.5 - 10/11/2008
    DwgJv.main: Exit. Return code:-1

    Just in case,
    the following message :
A JDK is required to execute Web Services with OracleDI. You are currently using a JRE.
is only a warning and not an error message....

  • Need help in understanding the result logged in gateway log file

I have installed unixODBC.x86_64 (2.2.14) and mysql-connector-odbc-5.3.4-linux-el6-x85-64 on Oracle Linux Server 6.5 64 bit with Oracle 12c and MySQL Community Server 5..6.14.  Oracle database character set is AL32UTF8 and MySQL database character set is latin1. I have copied the content of a gateway log file to the bottom of this entry and boldfaced the lines that I hope someone can explain to me what they mean and what should I do.

There is no error and data is returned.  It is just my curiosity to know about those lines in the log file and wonder whether they imply some underlying issues.
    Thanks,

  • Unable to view SQL Request in Log files

    Hi Folks,
I am facing an issue which I am unable to find out the solution to view the physical query generated in log files in Presentation Services.
Below is the SQL Request generated but I want to view the exact physical query i.e SQL Request which is hitting DB.
So please guiude me to resolve this issue, I guess it is because of Initialization blocks created which is blocking to view the SQL request.
    -------------------- SQL Request:
    set variable LOGLEVEL = 7;SELECT "- Policy Effective-Start Date"."Start Quarter" saw_0, "- Insurance Policy Facts".Revenue saw_1, "- Insurance Policy Facts"."# Insurance Policies" saw_2, "Insurance Policy".Status saw_3, "Insurance Policy".Type saw_4 FROM "Insurance Policies" WHERE ("Insurance Policy".Type = 'Policy') AND ("- Policy Effective-Start Date"."Start Julian Day Number" BETWEEN VALUEOF(CURRENT_JULIAN_DAY)-365 AND VALUEOF("CURRENT_JULIAN_DAY")) ORDER BY saw_0, saw_3, saw_4
    /* QUERY_SRC_CD='rawSQL' */
    Regards
    Dj

There is no Enterprise Edition of SSMS. There is SSMS Basic and SSMS Complete. Prior to 2012 sp1, only SSMS Basic were available with Express Edition - but as of 2012 sp1 Expredd also offers SSMS Complete. SSMS Complete is selected bu default when you install
SSMS (unless you are prior to 2012 sp1 and are using Express, of course).
However, even SSMS Basic *should* show Agent assuming you have permissions for that. This is hearsay, but from trusted sources. Here is what to do:
Check what is installed for the machine from where you are running SSMS. You can do that using SQL Server Installation Center - see this blog post: http://sqlblog.com/blogs/tibor_karaszi/archive/2011/02/10/what-does-this-express-edition-look-like-anyhow.aspx
     (towards the end).
On that machine try both this problematic account as well as an account which is sysadmin. Does the sysadmin account see Agent? If so, you know permissions aren't granted properly. If not, then you know the tool is the problme.
Also try the problematic account from a machine where you know you see Agent normally. Again, this will help you assess whether the problem is the tool (SSMS) or permissions for the account.

  • Help! SQL server database log file increasing enormously

I have 5 SSIS jobs running in sql server job agent and some of them are pulling transactional data into our database over the interval of 4 hours frequently. The problem is log file of our database is growing rapidly which means in a day, it eats up 160GB of
disk space. Since our requirement dont need In-point recovery, so I set the recovery model to SIMPLE, eventhough I set it to SIMPLE, the log
data consumes more than 160GB in a day. Because of disk full, the scheduled jobs getting failed often.Temporarily I am doing DETACH approach
    to cleanup the log.
FYI: All the SSIS packages in the job is using Transaction on
some tasks. for eg. Sequence Cointainer
I want a permanent solution to keep log file in a particular memory limit and as I said earlier I dont want my log data for future In-Point recovery, so no need to take log backup at all.
And one more problem is that in our database, the transactional table has 10 million records in it and some master tables have over 1000 records on them but our mdf file
size is about 50 GB now.I dont believe that this 10 million records should make it to 50GB memory consumption.Whats the problem here?
Help me on these issues. Thanks in advance.

For SSIS part of question it would be better if you ask in SSIS forum although noting is going to change about logging behavior. You can increase some space on log file and also should batch your transactions as already suggested
Regarding memory question about SQL Server, once it utilizes memory is not going to release unless there is windows OS faces memory pressure and SQLOS asks SQL Server to trim down its memory consumption. So again if you have set max server memory to some
where near 50 SQL Server will utilize that much memory eventually. So what you are seeing is totally normal. Remember its costtly task for SQL Server to release and take memory so it avoids it by caching as much as possible plus it caches more so as to avoid
    physical reads which are costly
When log file is getting full what does below transaction return
    select log_reuse_wait_desc from sys.databases where name='db_name'
Can you manually introduce chekpoint in ETL query. Try this it might help you
Please mark this reply as answer if it solved your issue or vote as helpful if it helped so that other forum members can benefit from it

  • Amending script to read list of computers, run script and output to log file

    Hello all,
I have cobbled together a script that runs and does what I want, now I would like to amend the script to read a list of computers rather than use the msg box that it is currently using for the strcomputer, if the computers doesn't respond to a ping, then
log that, if it does continue with the script and when it is complete, log a success or failure. I have just started scripting and would really appreciate some help on this one, thanks. I created the script to fix an SCCM updates issue and failing task sequences,
so it may prove useful to others.
There are msg box entries that can be removed that were originally in there for the user running the script.

    Hi Bill,
long story short, I have approx. 2800 clients with an old entry in WMI for updates that the sccm client cannot clear or run because they do not exist anymore, so the client will not run updates or use a task sequence because of this, so my script fixes this
and does a couple of other things, I have found another way to do this by running  a different script that uses WMI to call a cscript function that uses the wuafix.vbs that is coped to the machine, I am also changing the echo entries to output to a log
file instead so that I can track what client has run the fix andn which ones haven't.
If you have any suggestions then please let me know, nothing nefarious :)
    many thanks
