Agents shutting service off randomly

i'm trying to set up an xgrid with a lot of clients/agents for video-transcoding. the first time i set it up, it all worked fine. i have an environment with several dual G4 (about 30), dual G5 (50), macpro's (70), macminis (9). a macmini does the controler-job and there are several clients that have once been connected (softwaredistribution through netrestore, settings-control over LDAP). now, in the beginning, all went well and the grid worked great. but now, the agents on the clients keep shutting down. i've deactivated the control of the xgrid settings on the directory-server and set the connection data manually, but still, as soon as i close the window, the agent is deactivated again. sometimes i can even see the checkbox getting unchecked after closing the lock again. i get this behaviour on computers installed with different images, over all different processor-architectures, new or older machines. at this moment, about 80% of the grid is down and i miss the power greatly, as we have a lot of encoding ahead of us.
it seems the problem is not unheard-off, but all the posts relating to this are closed and nobody seems to have an answer.
please help, deadlines are breathing down my neck...
greetings
andrei

  • IPhone constantly shuts itself off randomly after 3.1.2 upgrade

So I decided to upgrade my iPhone 3G to the newest software when it was first available and now, inconsistently, it has been shutting itself off.
All I would do is lock the phone, such as after sending a message, and place it in my pocket. When I check it again, I realize it will not turn on, and have to fully power on the thing.
Is this a normal problem? What can I do? Should I downgrade? Is that even possible?
I would just like my iPhone to work like it should, all help is appreciated greatly.

How can I set it as a new iPhone? The last time I reset all the settings and plugged in my phone, all of the information synced itself very quickly, I didnt have an option to restore as a backup or set up a new phone.
You seem to be confusing reseting the settings and restoring the phone. See this Apple support article - Restoring your iPhone... section. (This is also clearly described in the User Guide - bookmarked in iPhone Safari):
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
I aslo recommend disabling automatic syncing when connecting your phone. This can be selected on your device summary page or set globally for all devices.
Preferences > Devices > Prevent iPhones and iPods from syncing automatically

  • IPhone4 is shutting itself off randomly

At complete random, my iphone turns itself off. I've closed all the running programs to see if that helps, didn't. I'm not sure what else to do... help!!

If you by off mean standby thats what it's suppose to do
If 100% off As IN showing The Apple icon when you start it again
Then i would take it IN for service or maybe keep an eye on batt levels

  • Hp laserjet p1102w networked printer shuts itself off

Hi, I have a networked (not wireless network) printer, which is plugged into a computer that is always on. However, it shuts itself off randomly, even though I have set it to never do so. This means that users must walk over, turn the printer on, and occasionally restart their computers before they are able to print, which sometimes causes them to lose work. Occasionally the users will also receive a message like:
The printer spooler on the server was not responding
Which means someone must reset the server spooler before it will print.
I have also set it to go into power-save mode at the longest interval, one hour, but it frequently goes to sleep within minutes of a print-job, often sparking the above issues.
If there is anything that I can do further to keep from forcing the users to constantly turn it on, or to keep from having to restart the spooler every day, that would be great.
I am working with machines using Windows 7 and 8, and with a Windows Server 2012.

I got to this screen by going to the web interface by typing the printer's IP address into a web-browser's address bar.
Sorry for the delayed response. I will do my best to assist you when I get home.
Don't forgot to say thanks by giving "Kudos" if I helped solve your problem.
When a solution is found please mark the post that solves your issue.

  • Wife's iPhone keeps shutting off randomly and does it even when on calls, restarts and has a dark line in center of the screen then the apple logo. At times it does it several times or won't power up, and the iPhone4 is only five months old. What do we do

Have an iPhone 4 that is now shutting off randomly including during calls. The iPhone is roughly about five months old. When the iPhone shuts down and tries to restart it usually take two or three times before it stays on, but when it does it sometimes has a dark line down the center and shuts off. Not very happy about the iPhone doing this. The store we had purchased the iPhone 4 from suggested that we contact Apple to see about a replacement, or send it away for service. As you can tell we are not happy at this point since the iPhone is crucial part of our day for work and family. What should we do at this point?

    Thanks for the suggestions!
Except I tried all those before I even made this topic lol, but thanks!
I Already popped out the Sim Card & let my phone sit without it for a few minutes then put it back in. Sometimes it will work again & it will say it recognizes the SIM Card but more times then not it still says it cant recognize it! So I have to take it out & reinsert it multiple times.
& I have done a complete restore 2 times & a back up restore 3 times. Nothing seems to be working.
I am planning on going to the Apple Store this week, wish me luck!
But keep the suggestions coming if you have any, I'd appreciate it!

  • Mac Pro keeps shutting off randomly

    Hey guys,
My Macbook Pro keeps shutting off randomly. Its been doing it for a few months now and I was finally able to restore it to factory settings to see if that would fix the problem but it hasnt. Sometimes it will shut off every five minutes, other times it will be maybe once an hour. I've noticed that it is more likely to shut off when I'm visiting youtube or watching a video/viewing a site with lots of pictures.
By "shutting off" I mean that the screen goes black and I have to hold down the power button until it completely turns off and then restart it.
When I turn my computer back on it sometimes has a reason for the problem, which I copied and pasted below:

    Kara436,
some 15-inch Mid 2010 MacBook Pros are known to have a defect in their NVIDIA GPUs. Given the symptoms which you’d described, yours might have that defect also. Apple had a gratis servicing program for three years from the MacBook Pro’s date of purchase; they still offer the servicing, but it is no longer guaranteed to be gratis. I’d recommend that you make an appointment at your nearest Apple store or Apple-authorized service center, to have them run their Video System Test on your MacBook Pro, which will confirm whether or not its NVIDIA GPU has the defect.

I've had a new ThunderBolt Display for less than a month paired with a brand-new Mac Mini (2.6 GHz Intel Core i7, 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, Intel HD Graphics 4000)
and the display just began shutting off randomly.
I also have an external HD drive daisy chained via the display's Thunderbolt port that stops working once the display dies. Tried connecting the Mac Mini alone with no hard drive figuring it might be the drive but no the display still randomly shuts off. Any ideas or suggestions before I call Applecare?

I have a similar setup and problem. My Thunderbolt display (refurb, purchased in February 2012) will randomly turn off, as if it went to sleep - but mouse/keyboard input does not wake it back up. The internal speakers will still output audio. Disconnecting/reconnecting the Thunderbolt cable from the attached Mac Mini (2.5GHz dual-core Intel Core i5, OS X 10.7.5, AMD Radeon HD 6630M ) will not resolve the issue. Disconnecting/reconnecting the display's power cord and the Thunderbolt cable from the Mac Mini will resolve the issue temporarily. This began happening maybe a month or two ago, and has probably happened 10 times in the last 30 days. It is completely random, and I have yet to be able to duplicate it on demand.
Steps taken to attempt to fix the issue:
    Confirmed Energy Saver Settings
Confirmed Software up to date (OS 10.7.5)
Attempted Firmware Updates (message states not needed)
    Reset NVRAM
    Reset SMC (unplugging computer)

As well as other discussions concerning random flickering issues with the display.
Since I'm still under warranty, I took my display to a Genius Bar today. The rep didn't really seem to want to hear about what I found on these discussion boards. He says you can pretty much find anything you want to find here, and since it is unmoderated it is not a reliable source of information. I let him know that the issue (as far as I can tell) occurs with different models of Mac Mini's, MB Pros & MB Airs, suggesting it is in fact an issue with the display and not what's connected to it. I added that most folks who reported bringing the displays in for service ultimately ended up with a replacement display, as the service done on the defective display proved to not resolve the issue - but I would of course defer to his judgement.
He decided that they would order and replace the LCD panel. He assured me they would keep the display powered on for 12-24 hours after the service to ensure the issue has been resolved. Truthfully, I am not optimistic. And for the amount it costs to replace the panel ($833.32 from the provided estimate), I speculate this course of action will end up being much more costly for them in the long run. But we shall see!
I will be sure to provide updates as they come.  Wish me luck!

  • HT1476 Shut off randomly

If there is dust in the 30 pin could it shut off randomly ?? or could it be the battery "replaced recently"

    Hello, Jaydin.c333.

  • FIOS SHUTS OFF RANDOMLY

Fios was installed no more than two days ago and it has been shutting off randomly.  Nearly every time it has happened I have been watching something on demand.  One time, I was watching something while I was also DVRing it, and it shut off again.  Sometimes I hear a definite click and the box appears to reboot, and other times, the image/sound just goes out.  I have unplugged/reset the TV and box (a new cisco box) multiple times to no avail.  Any suggestions?  I am at a loss and frankly, quite disappointed.

Is there anything sitting directly on the box? If the box gets too hot, it will reset itself to cool it down. It should have 2 inches on the top and sides for adequate ventilation.

  • IdeaCentre a730 shuts off randomly/overheats

IdeaCentre a730 shuts off randomly, especially when you play a dvd or do other graphics intensive stuff. I ran the Lenovo fan diagnostic utility and it doesn't detect any fan. I also ran speedfan, it doesn't show any fans either, but it does show the temps of the cpu cores. I've never seen them get below 100F. If you're not doing anything, they will stay around 115F-140F ish. The fan is on. When I use handbrake (which converts between video codecs) the fan kicks into gear and speeds way up. So, the fan does blow. Also, I tried one of those laptop cooling pads (with 3 fans). It seems to run about 5 degrees cooler, but I still get the random shutdowns. I also tried running it without the cover, and that will drop the temp about 5 degrees (on average) also. So, What temps should this thing be running at? Does running the Lenovo fan diagnostic (and having it not find a fan) mean the fan isn't working? Even though the fan blows? How do I get a new fan? Or, is it something else...? Lastly, I couldn't find anything in the BIOS regarding fan settings?  Thanks.

    Hi Mezzi
Yes, the clogged cooling ventilators and bad air circulation could cause such high temperature and could lead to the point where the notebook would shut down automatically to prevent the hardware from damage.
You should also know that all internal devices would run with best performance while playing a game and due to high heat dissipation the temperature would arise to a critical level.
Therefore it's really important to ensure that the cooling grilles are free and not clogged by any dust and other objects...
Anyway, you said that your warranty is still valid and therefore I would strongly recommend contacting the ASP guys (authorized service partner) in your country and to explain your notebook issue.
I'm sure the technician could help you!
Good luck and best regards mate.

  • HT1688 My Iphone 4 randomly shuts itself off and will not turn back on unless I preform a hard reset.

I have an Iphone 4 that will randomly shut itself off and then not come back on unless I preform a hard reset.  Also, it sometimes freezes up and needs to be reset in order for the device to begin working properly.  I have tried to back up and restore using itunes on my computer but I still have the issue.  Can someone shed some light on this issue for me and let me know how to correct it?  Thank you.  Randy.

Try to set it up as new device, this time without using the latest backup. If this does not work, contact Apple to get it checked.

  • IPhone 6 shutting off randomly

My iPhone 6 shuts off randomly after using the camera or camera apps and during texts.  It also needs to be plugged in while it still has 28% battery left.  Anyone else? I restored and activated as new without any resolution to the problem.  I am being told it's probably "an underlying hardware problem."  Not thrilled.

To rule out a software issue,  set it up as new device without using the latest backup, explained here:

  • My macbook shuts off randomly, how do I know what's causing this and prevent it from happening again?

My macbook shuts off and I kept a journal for it because mine's got complications.
    July 1, 2014 (Tuesday)
I spilled a cup of choclate milk on my keyboard, it was soaked! But my battery was drained so I know nothing had short out. So I turned it over and never tried to turn it on.
    July 2
I went to the nearest apple center and asked them to clean it for me. (I knew it wasn't a good idea to clean it myself) They put it in a plastic bag but I asked them to open it as soon as possible so I know what parts are affected. They told me they'd take a picture of the inside for me and go back after an hour. Milk was still inside everywhere so I asked them to take it in.
    July 8
I called to get an update on my mac and they said it wasn't economically practical to repair it because they recommended a full system replacement. I got depressed and accepted my Mac's fate. But what's annoying is I put my mac in on July 2 and they only tried to clean it in July 5 which makes me think that was the reason my mac was irreparable.
    July 9
I took my mac and tried to find another opinion but I showed the diagnostics from the apple store and they said they couldn't fix it. My parents were getting ready to buy a new one.
    July 13
I realized that my mac didn't have charge when milk spilled on it so I tried to charge it and BOOM IT OPENED. They keyboards were sticky and it takes a moment before my computer reacts to the trackpad but it works! Even all the keys works! But it doesn't charge.
After lunch, it was workingp perfectly and my batteries were at 30% charge! I was really happy!
(in the interval my mac works perfectly, it stays for normal 7 hours when battery is charged fully)
    However at July 19
There was no electricity for four days (A typhoon came in the Philippines) and my battery is about 7% so I went to the public market to get it charge while I wait for electricity. I charged it for about 3 hours and sideways because it was inside my backpack while it charged so noone will notice it. When I got home and opened my laptop, it shut off randomly after my desktop appeared after start up. So I was sad.
    July 20
I found a solution online to use the option-shift-power button my mac opened and worked normally!
    July 21
My computer was normal in the morning then in the afternoon it shut off again after I waked it up from sleep. Tried option-shift for about 3-5 times before it worked with varying intervals from 5-20 minutes each
    July 22
I get nervous when I use it but it worked perfectly I was even able to edit with Final-cut pro and HD clips.
    Wednesday
Worked perfectly in the morning but in the afternoon, after waking it up from sleep it won't turn on tried the option-shift then I tried resetting the SMC for about three times (my mac is a unibody) but it didn't turn on the whole evening.
    Today Thursday morning July 24
I tried to reset SMC first thing in the morning after the thing won't turn on. After about an hour, I tried to turn my mac on normally and it opened. So what I did is to back up all my files. (It took the whole afternoon) and at night I ran diagnostics (D during start up) and no threats were found
Haven't been experiencing the trouble, as of the moment I'm writing this Jul 25, Friday (12:13 AM) HK time Philippines.
So what I'm asking here is what do I do to make sure this doesn't occur anymore. I probably written a very detailed log. So what else (diagnostics and other) should I do to prevent this from happening again. School starts in August and I will need my laptop to work perfectly to let me go through college with less burden. Thank you and I hope you reply. Any more questions about details on my Mac will be answered

Get a new computer. Consider switching to regular milk, or even a light fruit juice.

  • IMac G5 non-isight shutting off randomly

My iMac g5 keeps shutting off randomly during use. I have a niMac G5, non-isight and it stays on for 30 mins, an hour, or 3 hours and then shuts off as if someone is pulling the power cord out.
Upon starting up, sometimes it doesn't make it to the login screen before shutting down again. It runs normal for a while, then it would randomly turn off. I have downloaded heat temp monitor programs and it seems to get to about 70 degrees celcius sometimes. Upon restarting, I get the "report problem to apple" screen with this information. I have tried to restart the power supply too.

The problem is a thermal one, somehow there's a malfunction and the computer shuts down because it's overheating. You should take it in and have the power supply looked at. You can also take the bgack off and check the capacitors to see if any of them is swollen or leaking.
