Agetty is not starting, I think
Tonight I left my house and the power went down, anounced but I own a Das Keyboard so my girlfriend didn't know how to turn of my pc but if I reboot, all the daemons start but after that, nothing. After a while there is a message that the runlevels restarted to fast and that they are disabled for 5 minutes and then nothing again.
If I boot into rl 1, everything is fine... WTF is happening?
do you run [testing]? did you recently upgrade udev? did you also ignore the warning about /etc/inittab.pacnew?
if so, go ahead and take care of that (and any other .pacnew files) and your system should be back to normal.
if not, then well... ignore me .

I know several topics have been posted about this, but i have skimmed through several pages of this forum and i have not found any responses, answers, or information that will help me with my problem.
My problem is simple, when I click on the iTUNES icon, no matter how many times I click on it, it will not start, open, or do anything. There will be no messages declaring an error has occured or anything of the sort. Nothing happens. I can click on iTUNES a million times and nothing will happen. However, when i turn off or restart my computer, the computer will tell me that iTUNES is running and that Microsoft must "end task" before the computer starts, and then it does that thing when you're trying to shut down windows and a program is open...
Also, everytime I reinstall my iTUNES and then restart the computer, the computer will prompt me, when it starts, about iTUNES trying to get internet access (actually, it's the Norton Internet Security that does this).
SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!!! I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling a million times already, and I have restarted my computer plenty of times as well. Someone please try and help me out, it's driving me crazy
Oh and another thing, searching for spyware and viruses and all that mess...does nothing. please don't ingnore me people and PLEASE help me out. I think it's messed up that I buy a 400 dollar peice of equipment and i don't get a chance to use it.Ask symantec why their prodcut won't allow you to run
other software and is freezing when you try to add
new rules?
Is your Norton subscription up to date?
I don't have Norton on my PC. I am of no further help
to you in configuring Norton.
You can use MSCONFIG to shut Norton off temporarily.
Using MSCONFIG to troubleshoot conflicts in
Windows
wouldn't that make me more vulnerable to viruses and kind of make my computer messed up? -
RMAN thinks my database in not started...
Hi:
If my oracle home is set like this:
ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/
issuing "rman target /" returns "connected to target database (not started)"
If i set the oracle home without the slash at the end
ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1
then it works...
Can this be considered a bug?
The process is described here : http://beyondoracle.wordpress.com/2009/10/08/rman-06193-connected-to-target-database-not-started-wrong/

Arch not starting - no console login
Hi guys,
I've been trying stuff for myself for some time now, but seems I need your help.
For a few weeks now, my Arch Linux i868/KDEMod-System is not starting anymore. Last thing I remember is to do an upgrade to the latest KDE(Mod) packages (4.5.0 I guess), but I don't think thats the problem. Here's what happens:
When I boot Arch, it just stops at some point towards the end of the boot process - soon after ntp and boinc daemons are loaded - with the message "Error opening display", and eventually error messages about vc processes respawning too fast - the virtual consoles 1-x, I guess. So no chance to login. The only reaction I get is the switch to runlevel 6 when pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL.
I thought it was an X11 issue and switched drivers from nvidia to nv to vesa, no success. I then disabled loading KDE in the inittab, no change either. Now I am down to runlevel 3, but still the same. I am a bit confused because I thought X shouldn't try to start anymore like this, but I still get "error opening display".
The grub menu Arch fallback option doesn't do anything different either. Next thing I thought about is using an older kernel, but there's just one in /boot. /var/log's don't look helpful to me either... excerpts at the bottom.
Any ideas?
Regards,
Xaver

I am somewhat computer illiterate but I have a question. I have had iTunes for several years and never had a problem. I occassionally get prompts to update and those only take about a minute and they're done. Last week, the download could not complete even after I had tried 2 or 3 times. I just let it go thinking I would try again when I had more time. Yesterday I tried to access iTunes on my Windows 7 and got a message, " could not start iTunes, MSVCR80 dill is missing. Please reload iTunes to fix the problem. I tried several times but I continue to get the same message without iTunes coming up. I talked to a computer geek today who told me I should go to my control panel and uninstall iTunes and reinstall it. My question. I have placed many albums of music and purchased many songs from the iTunes shop which I am concerned will go missing or deleted if I uninstall and reinstall. Will I lose my library if I do this? What precautions can I take to make sure everything comes back as it was?

11.1.2 opmn_EPM_epmsystem1 service will not start after server move
Moved our 11.1.2 Windows 2008 SP2 (not R2) 64 bit machines from one domain to the other (test to prod) and reconfigured the repositories to the prod SQL server (2005). Configuration is all green yet the EPM_epmsystem1 will not go to started. It sticks at Starting and after some type of time out stops.
We run as administrator thinking that would be the problem but to no avail. We tried the delivered script but to no avail either.
In the E:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\epmsystem1\diagnostics\logs\OPMN\opmn directory the opmn.log shows only this:

Looking for avenues on how to resolve this ...
JTSHi John,
I still get the same error message when i start the opmn from the command prompt.

Its a VM Image and i havent sent any ipaddress in the host file too.
however i am unable to start the OPMN (epmsystem1) service too from services.msc and it throw below error

IMac will not start up. Help please!
Earlier today I was surfing the Net with Safari. Suddenly, the page I was loading stopped loading. The arrow pointer would not move if I moved the mouse. The menubar clock's seconds stopped changing. The entire system was frozen. After about 15-20 seconds, the iMac's fans started blowing louder. After another 30 seconds, I gave up and tried the force quit key combo. No dice. So then I held down the power switch, forcing a shutdown.
Now, when I try to boot my iMac G5, I get one of 3 outcomes:
(a) I hear a faint fan sound, and perhaps the hard drive makes a sound, but nothing else happens.
(b) I hear the startup chime, but the chime doesn't finish. It's cut off and the iMac turns off. Sometimes the light on the front of the iMac comes on for a moment, sometimes not.
(c) The iMac starts up normally. After a minute or so, the whole system freezes again.
I use this Mac at work for all my medical records. Now I have no access to my medical records (but I do have a backup, thankfully). Without a working medical record system, I've had to cancel all my patients for the day and I'm scrambling to find a solution.
I found an article in the Apple knowledgebase. I followed the article step by step. It's called iMac G5: Troubleshooting when your computer won't turn on, and can be found at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300908 .
With the back cover removed, and the power cord plugged in, LED 1 lights.
When I hit the internal power button, LED 2 and LED 3 lit up, and OS X started up. The login window appeared. Since my keyboard and mouse were not plugged in, a window came up saying that the iMac was looking for a bluetooth mouse. I don't have one, so I plugged in my USB keyboard and mouse, but the mouse never saw power (the red laser never came on). From that point forward, I couldn't get the mouse to work and after maybe half a minute, the fans started blowing again. So I think this was the same as my Mac starting normally, but then freezing. This time, it froze before I could login.
One thing I noticed: the iMac had been off and unplugged for more than 45 minutes. The last time it had been off and unplugged for more than 45 minutes, when I plugged it in an tried to boot it, it actually started up and I got to the finder. But then after I started to run Disk Utility, the OS froze up again. So it seems, if I leave the iMac off and unplugged for some length of time (45 minutes works), it will boot into OS X.
Okay, so on with the steps described in the article. I held down the internal power button, and the iMac shut down. I hit the SMU button (with the iMac off). Then, I tried the internal power button again. This time, LED 1 lit, and LED 2 lit, but then LED 3 does NOT light up, and the computer does not start up. I just hear a light fan blowing (near the processors, I think) and the hard disk makes a few clicks, nothing more. No chime, no display.
So then I reset the SMU again, by pressing the SMU button (which turned off the computer). Then I pressed the internal power button again. The computer still doesn't start up normally. Same as above.
Reading through the article it asks, after pushing the internal power button, does LED 2 come on momentarily, or not at all? Actually, neither. It comes on, and stays on. The article has no instructions for you if LED 2 comes on and stays on. At this point, I'm stuck.
So I checked another knowledgebase article, About the iMac G5 diagnostic LEDs. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86815
It says:
- LED 1 indicates that trickle voltage from the power supply has been detected. This LED will be ON when the computer is turned off and your power supply is working correctly.
- LED 2 indicates that the main logic board has detected proper power from the power supply when the computer is turned on. This LED will be ON when the computer is turned on and the power supply is working correctly.
- LED 3 indicates that the computer and the LCD display are communicating. This LED will be ON when the computer is turned on and video signal is being generated.
- LED 4 lights only if the computer detects an over-temperature condition. This LED will be OFF when the computer is turned on and running at the correct temperature.
On my iMac, LED 1 and 2 light and stay on, while LED 3 does not (except for the first time I tried this, see above). This seems to indicate a problem generating a video signal.
So maybe it's a problem with the video signal, but I think something else is going on too.
iMac G5 (First Generation) Mac OS X (10.4.6)right down to the "Troubleshooting when your computer won't turn on" 2nd LED staying on when the procedure only gave two options: Momentarily on or not coming on at all.
Hi guys,
The fact that the second LED stays on is actually normal. This what is meant to happen if neither the power supply or one type of motherboard problem have occured. Para 12 of http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300908 only provides the results (no light or momentary) that occur if the test provides evidence of a problem with either of them.
As Anthony notes, if LED remains lit constantly then power is reaching the motherboard and the computer is turned on as described in http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300908 .
Just wanted to make this clear in case other users got worried if they found LED 2 lit.
I agree that http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300908 could be made clearer in this respect.
Cheers

Server 08 R2 DC - unable to open ADUC, netlogon does not start
Hello everyone, and thank you in advance for any possible support.
Note: All identifying server/domain names have been replaced with "CORP" "Sub" and "Sibling" where appropriate. Our forest consists of 3 domains - two which are 'siblings' at the top, CORP and Sibling, (corp being
the primarily used one), and one which is a 'child' of Corp (Sub).
Today we identified that on one of my domain controllers (named for this post, CORP-DC6) we are unable to open ADUC. This is only one of our 8 DC's, and it does not hold any FSMO roles; the only two important pieces on this server is that it's where we manage
our OCS from (we use ADUC on this system to enable a user for OCS, create SIP addresses, etc) and that Certification Authority is installed on the system.
Attempting to open ADUC gives error "Naming information cannot be located because: The target principal name is incorrect."
Web searches for this prompted me to check DNS for issues. In looking into DNS, I found that the system was somehow assigned a different IP address than it should have (it was now at 192.168.1.124 instead of 192.168.1.290 where it should have been).
I moved the IP address back to the correct IP, and rebooted.
The issue was still there, so I continued searching; which lead me to a suggestion to check out my netlogon service. I found that the Netlogon service was NOT running. When attempting to start the service, it fails and I am presented wih the
following error in the System event log:

At this point, I've read a bunch of stuff online and not really found anything that has helped nor seemed completely relevant.
Additional Info that may help out:
When I open Server Manager, it seems to think the local system's name is WIN-3OL3DIFK4S instead of CORP-DC6; similarly opening Device Manager from w/in Server manger gives a message about managing a remote system; even though I am managing the local system.
There are additional errors in the System and Application log which are certainly issues, but I do not know if they pertain to the main issue at hand here or not.

Description:
The Kerberos client received a KRB_AP_ERR_MODIFIED error from the server host/corp-dc1.corp.com. The target name used was cifs/corp-dc1.corp.com. This indicates that the target server failed to decrypt the ticket provided by the client. This can occur when the target server principal name (SPN) is registered on an account other than the account the target service is using. Please ensure that the target SPN is registered on, and only registered on, the account used by the server. This error can also happen when the target service is using a different password for the target service account than what the Kerberos Key Distribution Center (KDC) has for the target service account. Please ensure that the service on the server and the KDC are both updated to use the current password. If the server name is not fully qualified, and the target domain (CORP.COM) is different from the client domain (CORP.COM), check if there are identically named server accounts in these two domains, or use the fully-qualified name to identify the server.

Smply based on a quick look through of the dcdiag and the various event log messages, It seems to me that the NetLogon service not starting up is causing most of the errors; but I am not aware of how to get it to start up.Thank you for the quick response!
Windows firewall is disabled for all network profiles.
We have do have 7 DC's in the forest. here's an image i created a while back that lists our DC's and shows the replication partners (not really relevant, but this shows the DC's) http://i.imgur.com/AtjGuiM.jpg
I believe May 27 was a date in which we performed maintenance/upgrades on our vmware virtual hardware on this VM; when we upgraded the virtual hardware, it created a new NIC device on this server (which is how the system lost it's IP address configuration).
Today, I assigned the correct IP to the 'new' NIC.
will look at link about Kerberos
I'm unfortunately not familiar enough with the purposes of the internal vs external forwarders to comment on this or make a change at this time.
IPConfig info shown below
DNS is AD integrated, each domain has it's own DNS servers and have conditional forwarders to point to the other domain when appropriate. I believe each DC is also running DNS, but via DHCP we only pass out at most two DNS servers to client systems (main

Firefox will not start - already tried all suggestions from troubleshooting
I searched google and here a couple times before posting this. My problem is simple, firefox just will not start. I can click on the shortcut, or the icon inside the c/program files/mozilla folder, i can click "run as administrator", i can do run/firefox.exe, and I can do all of these in safe mode, and still none of them work.
For each time that I do try to start it, it will be running in processes so sometimes I'll have 3 or 4 firefox.exe running but it is not actually showing up anywhere.
I already tried going to run/firefox.exe -p to create a new profile and that doesnt work either, because when I do it, nothing happens. I enter firefox.exe -p in the run command box, click enter, and.....nothing , not even the hourglass. I have tried doing it in regular and safe mode also. nothing.
I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling back when this first started happening, it was the first thing I did but no luck.
Also, one thing : 99% of the time nothing at all happens when i try to run firefox. When my computer is in safe mode though, and only if I click "run as administrator" on the firefox icon that is in the program files/mozilla folder, it says "a device attached to the system is not functioning." Thats the only time I ever got a error message though, every other time, and if I click on the shortcut or the start menu icon, nothing will happen, and if i do it outside of safe mode. The only time I get this message is in safe mode and when i click on the icon in the program files mozilla folder.
I read through the troubleshooting article on here and couldnt find any help, so I am hoping someone here can help me out since i f'ing HATE internet explorer, and safari is OK but I prefer firefox, and now safari is starting to give me trouble too so I would really just love to get back with my firefox. hope you can help me. thanks.you don't think I already tried that?

We have 6 of Z10 and playbooks in the family for 18 months, we BBM each other, everything is great.
Then my son says his does not work. Power button no response, sometimes no microwave connection, but Wifi and bluetooth still working. Tried different battery, The battery charge, remove battery for 15 minutes and replace battery, connect to computer battery out reloading the OS, Read all these news groups, got some sense out of it but the phone not reliable, time for a new one.
I brought a new Z10, with in a week, it did not start one day after charging. Tryied all the tricks like above.
Shop took it back, they had a look at it, but had no replacement, got refunded.
Brought from another shop, after a week it stopped, would not do a thing, no red light. Tryed everything like above, computer does not acknowledge it is connected, can not get a green light.
The only sign of life is the red led after holding power button down for 10sec, led for 10 seconds, that is it
My poor son has been with out a phone more than with one the last 2 months.
When we first got our 6 Z10s some 18 months ago, the password to unlock the device was only numbers.
After an OS upgrade the alpha characters become available. These new ones arrive with only numbers available. After we do the OS upgrades all in one go we still only have numbers available. I can not help but think we are missing some modules from the OS.
Finally my question (thanks for reading this far anyone who made it),
Anything I did not try to get the phone going again ?
Is there anything we are doing to cause this ? has the quality dropped off new phones ?
As we return post this phone I am sure Blackberry warranty will not be impressed with us.
Thanks for replying (in advance)

Loving BB Z10 Keeping me movingafter getting my device to boot up using an older OS via
BlackBerry 10.2.1 STL100-3 Autoloader
10.2.1.1927
I updated to my carrier's - T-Mobile - official release which was the current version ( 10.2.1.2156) on the device before it "crashed" - the device failed to boot up so I had to reload via "autoloader," skip the update and use the 10.2.1927.
Does anyone know what the problem might be? Thank you in advance. I'm so sorry I gave up my Bold 9900. "If it 'ain't' broke, don't fix it!" -
After installing the new software to my iPhone 4S , my dream zoo either will not start or when it does it has a blank screen that has a few icons on it that wont work. How can I fix this is it possible to go back and reinstall the older software ?
Unfortunately I tried that and it didn't work. Thanks for the help though. I tried to uninstall and it said I couldn't because the file is corrupt or something, but I think I finally got it uninstalled and/or deleted or whatever, but now I try to reinstall/download it again from the beginning and I can't. No matter what I do I can not get Firefox working again. No matter how many times I try to redownload it. Any other suggestions?

Database do not start due to error 445
Hi,
We have three databases on one HP-UX 11.31 server, the DB version is 10.2.0.4, we started facing slowness in all the databases, when I tried to connect to the server it was very slow, even the sqlplus was taking very long time, when checked the alert logs of all the databases, found the below error in each alert log file;
ksvcreate: Process(m000) creation failed
Sun Apr 10 12:56:56 2011
ksvcreate: Process(m000) creation failed
Sun Apr 10 12:59:00 2011The server resource utilization was fine with almost 15%CPU utilization, 55% Memory utilization.
I aborted the databases then tried to start them, the startup failed with the below error for all databases;
ORA-00445: background process "PMON" did not start after 120 seconds
The following is the alert log content for one database;
ksvcreate: Process(m000) creation failed

No changes on the server side, but recently we changed the Windows DNS servers and this unix machine is connected to the domain.
the resolv.conf file contents are
oracle:/etc$ more resolv.conf
domain mc.ed
nameserver 10.141.11.1
nameserver 10.141.11.2But, we have two new DNS servers with 10.141.11.3 and 10.141.11.4.
I think changing the old DNS IPs with the new DNS IPs will resolve the issue. -
Creative Cloud Does Not Start - Help!
If anyone from Adobe is watching this. I was considering switching from Aperture to Lightroom CC. I was able to install the trial and it works fine. However, all of a sudden, Adobe Creative Cloud App will not run. The icon appears for a moment then disappears.
I have tried almost everything listed here - installing and uninstalling, Creative Cloud Cleaner, running as root, running in a new admin account and so on. All are no goes.
I really would like to be your customer, but since I can't get live support, and I am not going to sign up only to find the paid CC does not work either, I hope you are able to help me.Refer this link :
Creative Cloud won't launch on Mac OS 10.10.3
Still same ??
Try with solution provided in the first link I provided:
Message from Danny :
Success!
Hope this helps someone in the same situation. (This is for a Mac, OS 10.9.5)
This is what I did.
Started the computer in SAFE MODE, Creative Cloud Desktop (CCD) started.
Restarted under regular user mode. CCD did not start.
Removed all login items from System Preferences > Users & Groups (I think this step could be skipped and only tried if the following doesn't work.)
Go to Library folder. Rename LaunchAgents folder to LaunchAgents_old and Launch Daemons folder to Launch Daemons_old
Create new folders called LaunchAgents and Launch Daemons.
Move all items NOT containing the name Adobe from the "old" folders and put them in their respective new folders.
Go to ~/Library and do the same thing with LaunchAgents folder.
Restart the computer and see if CCD opens. Mine DID!!!
Using the uninstall Creative Cloud, uninstall. Then reinstall CCD. (This should put new items in the LaunchAgent folders.)
Restart the computer and see if CCD works. Mine Did and I seem to be good to go. -
Error Message: "Skype can not start because the system is not available"
Try to reset all Skype settings. Quit Skype or use Windows Task Manager to kill any Skype.exe process. Go to Windows Start and in the Search/Run box type %appdata% and then press Enter or click the OK button. The Windows File Explorer will pop up. There locate a folder named “Skype”. Rename this folder to something different, e.g. Skype_old. Next go to Windows Start and in the Search/Run box type %temp%\skype and then press Enter or click the OK button. Delete the DbTemp folder. Restart Skype. N.B. If needed, you will still be able to re-establish your call and chat history. All data is still saved in the Skype_old folder.
Okay!
I'm newbie here, but it doesn't matter. I dont want to do here anything else, just write off my opinion about the Microsoft's "new" Skype, and I hope they will read...
This is a cropped image - of course hungarian, because I'm hungarian, but I think many of us could see this as well. How this is possible? "The Skype can not start because the system is not available" *** What kind of system? The Skype was on a P2P system, where is impossible that the system is not available! This is why the skype was much better than the Microsoft's messenger. Then they bought it, and make it wrong...
I found a solution for this problem, this can happen if my client is not updated. But IT IS!
How does it works? Can we use the **bleep** Skype how we would like to use? Or this time we need to find an other application (like Viber), and using that while they not buying that as well, just because that is better?
