As stated before, the issue is command F is using Safari, as opposed to Adobe Reader "find" within Safari. It's been this way for years, downloading PDF's just to search them, and this morning I had enough, so here we go ...
1. Open any pdf outside of Safari.
2. Hover over empty toolbar space > control + click > edit > find. This will place the magnifying glass find button on your toolbar permanently.
Apparently Adobe 9 had the find button, and if/when we upgraded to Adobe 10 (aka Adobe X) Adobe decided to remove the find button from the toolbar because ??? ... genius move, right? Clearly you can skip this step if you already have a find button on your toolbar.
3. Now in Adobe go to edit > preferences > internet > and untick "Display in Read Mode by default".
Steps 2 and 3 above should only need to be done once, and will work thereafter unless you start fiddling with Adobe again on your own or through update.
4. Restart Safari, navigate to a PDF document and open it in the browser. You should see your toolbar, whereas before you would not. If you don't like your toolbar there, just go back to step 2 and reverse. Then you can bring up your toolbar when needed by hovering over the lower portion of an open PDF and clicking on the Adobe squiggly trademark (looks like a triangle in cursive?). Not sure why anyone would want to do this, but the option is there. I like my toolbar there 24/7, but depending on the answer to my inquiry below, that might change ...
QUESTION:
So now when I open a PDF in Safari and want to search it WITHOUT downloading it, I click the magnifying glass and search away. But what about searching with Command F? It still defaults to Safari's "find", not Adobe's "find".
Anyone know how to make Command F search an Adobe PDF opened within the Safari Browser?

  • Hyperlinks in PDF, WORD, PPT not working in Safari on iPad

We have an intranet we are serving up for use on the iPad. The links to other documents in PDF, WORD, PPT work on my pc and laptop but not in the iPad. I have looked to see of there is a setting but the only thing I found was to allow pop ups which our site uses but not luck. The links are blue and appear they should work but don't. Any one else have this problem and how did you correct it?

We have a similar problem with links inside PDFs not working, but worse, our links are all relative, ie, only file names. This means that if you DO have an app that makes the links work, but which is not viewing it in the browser, the links will try to open the file, but it won't find it, since it won't have the full domain info.
I realize our users could put the full into on the links, but we chose to do it this way for the ease of preparation--we have hundreds of these files every month and there's no quick, easy or automatic way for the preparers to add the full domain info at creation time--it's 100% manual, even with copy/paste. It all works fine in IE on a PC, which is the overwhelming bulk of our viewers, so until recently when several board members got iPad2s, there was no compelling reason to make any changes. It wasn't broke

Hampshire Folder 4x PDF 1X Excel 7x Word
Can i do this on the ipad or do all the PDFs get associated with 1 app and all the Word docs with another app??
Sorry im new to this ,ive had a iphone but only used it for Calls/text/photos and Browsing/FB
    thanks

There are apps that support multiple document formats e.g. GoodReader 4 supports (read-only) PDFs, text files, images, and word and excel documents - from their help pages on their website, http://www.goodreader.com/gr-man-view-other.html :
For file types that are not covered by our own advanced viewing engines, we use standard built-in viewing engine, which should be familiar to you from your Safari application experience. When you open any file in Safari, you activate the same viewing engine that we use for the following file types: Microsoft Office files - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, HTML files and Safariwebarchives, iWork files - Pages, Numbers, Keynote.
Please note that the built-in viewer doesn't support very large MS Office files. If your MS Office file crashes built-in viewing engine, we suggest to convert it to a PDF file. PDF files of huge sizes are easily handled by GoodReader using our own advanced viewing engine.
That app also allows you to create folders within it, so you can have separate folders for your areas.

  • New to PDF Portfolios - Need to Link between PDF, Word & Excel Docs

    Hello All,
Thanks in advance for your help.  I'm new to the Adobe X Pro & making portfolios.  I have figured out how to create a portfolio.  My portfolio has a main pdf document and several folders with pdf, word & excel files in them.  What I’m trying to do is link from my main document (pdf file) to the other files (word, excel & pdf) that I’ve added to the portfolio.  I’ve tried linking to a pdf file and a thumbnail of the word doc (because I did find that I can’t link to the actual word or excel doc).  When I create & test the link (for both the pdf file & the thumbnail of the word doc) it is there; I can click the link I created and it will go to the word doc.  If I close the portfolio & reopen it the link to the pdf file is there, but the link to the word doc isn’t there anymore.  That link now goes to the main pdf file and not the word thumbnail or even the folder where the word doc is saved.  Any ideas on what to do?  Thanks.

As Dave has noted you can not do this.
Acrobat/Reader would need to know what program to use to read the data in the document and since there can be many different programs that could read your document,  Acrobat/Reader would need to know exactly which program to use on one's system. You might only have MS Office but others might have both MS Office and OpenOffice.org and might prefer to use OpenOffice.org unless there is a feature that is only available to MS Office. Yes it is possible to create a program that can be configured to use specific helper programs, but it can have a real impact on system efficiency. It is easy enough to download or extract the non-PDF document and then use your program of choice. Just look to MS Outlook for a program that can not always open an attachment, especially PDF files.

  • I have ipad2, I need a good app to help me open any attachments such as PDF , word or others, please help

How can I get a good app to open any email with different attachments such as PDF , word and others, something to open
Easily just like my PC . Is it possible?

Those document types should open in the Mail app. If you want to transfer them from Mail into another app then there is Documents To Go (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/documents-to-go-office-suite/id317117961?mt=8#) which, from its description :
    • EDIT, CREATE & VIEW Word & Excel files (including Office 2007/2008/2010)
    • View  PowerPoint ,PDF, iWork & other files
    • iPad/iPhone 4/iOS 4: Send & receive attachments using the device's built-in Mail app
    • Includes desktop app (Win & Mac) with 2-way file sync (WIFI required to sync)
I havn't got the app myself, but I've seen it recommended by others

  • Make Safari open PDF in preview automatically, by default

Is there any way I can make Safari open (download + view) PDF links in Preview?
I know that Safari opens PDFs in its own viewer, and then I can use the semi-opaque 4-button toolbar at the bottom of the window (when the toolbar is visible) to Open PDF in Preview, but that's a fair bit of extra work from a UI perspective.
I click the link to the PDF, and the PDF opens in a new Safari window.
I move the mouse to the bottom of the page, wait for the gray toolbar to appear, then click the Open PDF in Preview.
(This is assuming the toolbar shows itself, which for some reason it has stopped doing on some PDFs.)
Now I've got a Preview window with my document, plus the useless Safari PDF view, plus my original webpage.
    It's tedious and cumbersome.
Yes I know I could option-click the PDF link to automatically download the file, but that doesn't automatically open the file after it is downloaded.  Either way I have to mess around to open the file as I'd like to.

Right-click on the PDF document; select Get Info from the pop-up menu; in the lower half is a section labeled Open With. Select Preview from the choices listed, then click Change All... to make Preview the default appp for PDF documents.

  • How do I make Safari open PDF's using installed Adobe Acrobat 7.1.0

I would like to force Safari 3.1.2 to open all PDF links using Adobe Acrobat 7.1.0. How do I accomplish this? I have no problem making Safari use the Adobe Reader, however, I would like to use the full Adobe Program so I can save and download interactive PDF forms I have filled out on the web. Using the Adobe reader, you can only download the form itself - all supplied information using the form's interactive features are lost when the filled in form is downloaded.

    Hello, Carolyn:
Thank you for your suggestions. Unfortunately, it is not working for me. I have both Adobe Acrobat v. 7.1.0 and Acrobat Reader v. 9.0.0 running on my computer. In either program's preferences both programs are availabe when I choose the program to display PDF files in the browser (Safari). There is no problem setting Safari's PDF handling to the default value.
When I choose Acrobat Reader to be the program to display PDF files in the browser, Safari will indeed use Acrobat Reader. However, when I choose Adobe Acrobat v. 7.1.0, Safari does not use the Adobe Acrobat program to display the PDF file, rather the file is displayed by the PDF handling features built in to Safari. I have found no way to make Safari use the full version of Adobe Acrobat. PDF files residing on my computer opens without difficulty using my copy of Adobe Acrobat v. 7.1.0. Do you have any other ideas that would help solve this problem?

  • Some PDF files garbled in Safari and PDF HD

I have a 3 page sample of a book on my website (generated from InDesign) that reads fine on the Mac Safari and other programs on the Mac.
However, the PDF will only show garbled, overlying text when viewed on the iPad Safari and PDF HD. It is not file size related as I have an 8-page newsletter nearly four times the size of file and also created in InDesign --> PDF that views just fine.
I have exported the PDF and also print to PDF as a new file and it still comes out a mess.
The graphics and music illustrations are ok, some lines of text, and titles. The fonts used are Times TT and Helvetica. There is also a IPA linguistic font used. Basically all other text in the three pages is just garbage.
Anyone else see this happening and how can I fix the situation so clients can see the sample on iPad? Can the imbedded EPS files in the document be what is fouling things up? The illustrations are essential for the sample from the book.

I have this same problem in all PDF readers and Safari.
The problem exacerbates itself when a PDF document gets zoomed in or out.
I have some large, multi-page PDFs that are fine and some that aren't.
I even have one or two page PDFs that exhibit the same issues.
I can't see any pattern to whether a PDF will view correctly or not.
I have reported this via Apple iPad feedback.
You may want to do the same to let Apple know tis is an issue on some iPads or iOS software.
    Here's the feedback link

  • Saving from Safari as PDF results in an icon with 0 byte volume that fails to open as it is "damaged" Why and how to solve?

saving from Safari as PDF results in an icon with 0 byte volume that fails to open as it is "damaged" Why and how to solve?

Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to print by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar may appear under the cursor. Click the printer icon.
    Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
    Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
    and check the box marked
    Allow Plug-ins
    Then click
    Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
    Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
    Step 5
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others — I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
    Step 6
Do as in Step 4 with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari.

  • IOS 8, Safari and pdf hyperlinks

Hello: I'm sure this is a bug, so I have reported it in "feedback." Unfortunately I cannot access the bug reporting option since I am not a developer. However, this is my frustrating observation (since my entire website depends on hyperlinks in pdfs):
clickable hyperlinks do not work in Safari on pdfs  IOS 8. The links work using Chrome, they work from the public folder I have in DropBox, so I have determined it is a Safari issue.  This is the page I used to test:
    http://www.rightbrainforhire.me/shelter-pet-gallery-aug-2014.pdf
Has anyone else seen this? Or is it still too early to tell...
    Thanks so much,
    Heidi
And why is there no community for IOS 8?!
    rightbrainforhire.me

    Hi,
Too late to reply you :-(.
Yes, install the Chrome browser and access the PDF link. Our users are not happy with the Chrome idea because they were used to Safari all along. To be frank Chrome browser is performing well these days. We are evaluating and trying to implement HTML5 based solution from Mozilla PDF.js. It is a waste of time and resource due to this small silly, frustrating issue.
No idea when does this get resolved because there are no other solid solution that runs PDF within the browser. More over, IOS Safari does not allows to configure or install other PDF reader plugins to run as part of the browser otherwise alternatives like Adobe reader could be used.

  • How do I create a fillable form from an existing document (PDF, Word, etc)?

How do I create a fillable form from an existing document (PDF, Word, etc)?

In Acrobat 11 you'd select: Tools > Forms > Edit
to go into form editing mode. You'll see the tools that are available, thought it may prompt you to autodetect the fields. I usually don't do this, preferring to create them myself.

  • HT5071 It is possible for me to distribute my book as a PDF/word and on the Ibooks app?

    Hello,
So I am currently writing a book, and I am curious to know if it is possible to distribute my book as a PDF/word and on the Ibooks app store. I intend on making the book a free download.

It's your content - you can distribute as you like, but as noted, only via the store when in .ibooks format. As a PDF, you can do whatever you want with it.

Or creating a word/excel file on another way, without printing-form.
If there is a possibility wo create one of this 3 files, which functionmodules or class can i use.

Adobe forms ARE THE SOLUTION. If you have already paid for the licence or that is not your problem and you can use this technology, USE IT! That works in many scenarios:
    1) WD scenario/ online - is only one of the many
    2) standalone (works even without sap)
    3) Offline interactive form <<<----- this is what you want.
I am the Adobe forms senior and can guide you through. Note there is Adobe form forum under NetWeaver - Adobe forms.
Please check this link, what should be the thing you need to:
