Aggregate Audio Devices Don't Work

Hi,
I'm trying to create an aggregate audio device from my Macbook's on-board audio devices. The device does not appear in any application, including sound preferences, AU lab, and Jackpilot.

I, too, am having this problem with two MOTU firewire devices (828mkII and Traveler). The article referred to simply walks one through the steps to create an aggregate device in the Audio MIDI Setup. I have done this, but the aggregate device still does not appear in the Sound pane of System Preferences OR Logic Pro. If I close the Audio MIDI Setup application and restart it, the aggregate device is gone!
This is more than just a "how to set up an aggregate device" problem. Any ideas about what's happening or how to fix it? I've tried re-installing drivers, resetting devices to factory defaults, rebooting, etc. Nothing seems to help. I'm about ready to wipe out my hard drive and install everything from scratch…

  • Aggregate Audio Device- half-way works

Greetings. I'm trying to record multiple audio channels through multiple devices using 'aggregate audio device' feature in the Audio Midi setup.
the devices are a MOTU (mark of the unicorn) 896/MOTU896HD daisychained via firewire and going into a powerbook via firewire. Recording software is likely to be Raven (cornell lab of ornithology nature sound recording software).
I can create an aggregated device that says 38 input/40 output channels (the MOTU's can send and receive different formats) in the Aggregate Audio device editor, and these channels show up on the
We want to record in 16 channels- however, in the Audio Midi Setup menu, under Audio input, the aggregated device still only has a max of 8 channels (one MOTU's worth) in the pull-down format menu. Raven sets up recording by looking at the Audio MIDI setup, so only opens 8 channels for recording. What am I missing? Is there some way to get the audio input format to have an option for 16 channels?
Thanks for any help you can provide. Happy Holidays
    Alan

An update- Raven now sees two separate streams from the aggregated device, although one is only 2 channels (instead of 8), which makes me think both streams are from the same unit but one a 2 channel master or something like that... (i'll test this with the mics soon).
Any advice on using Audio Midi Setup, as well as how to configure audio devices in the firewire console would be greatly appreciated... I am expecting to be able to chose from the pull-down format menu 16 channels (8+8)- but so far haven't been able to do this.
    Thanks, and happy holidays

  • Aggregat audio device with MBox

I'm trying to create an aggregate audio device with several output sources. Built-in-Audio works with DIGI9636, but I cannot seem to be able to get the MBox running with it. In the Aggregate Audio Device editor window MBox option doesn't even come up. Any solutions?

    Dear jakezzzz,
The only thing I can think of, not having your exact set up is that the word clock for both devices needs to match, and if you are using GB, it needs to be a sample rate of 44.1KHz.
I have an my16 mLAN card for a Yamaha 01v96 and it is the master word clock that all else syncs too at 48K and it works in GB, but the minute I attempt to add a device to create an aggregate mixer, those devices will not work for some reason.
I have used an RME Mammerfall DIGI9636 in my DMM G4. I really liked that unit. I was using it with Digital Performer 4.61.
Now that I have an intel machine and GB has most of what I need to do easy recordings, I am not using the RME card any longer.
Let me know what you find!

  • Motorola S9-HD audio controls don't work with 3GS?

I'm the recent and proud owner of a 3GS and Motorola S9-HD headset. The headset easily pairs with the phone and plays music flawlessly (sounds awesome too). Only catch is that the only controls that work on the headset are the volume. The audio controls don't work at all.
Anyone know of a work around for this or if I'm just out of luck...

Word is the OS3.O for iPhone does not support full implementation of music controls via Bluetooth. Not a defect of your headset. As we all know, Apple has been dismal at implementing Bluetooth on its devices. However, word is that OS3.1 update for iPhone will fix this. I have both the Motorola S9-HD headset and the Motorola S805. Neither has full control with my iPhone 3GS using the current OS.

  • [SOLVED] Default audio device no longer works after reboot

After today's reboot, the audio device no longer works. E.g., VLC says:
    Audio output failed:
The audio device "default" could not be used:
    No such file or directory.
    This is the console log:

[0x7fac41055118] main decoder error: failed to create audio output
The strange thing is that the sound card does in fact work; e.g. the sound test for "HDA Intel PCH", the first entry in my KDE Audio Settings, works. But the entry "default" does not and I suppose that is also the device that VLC is complaining about.
I've tried blacklisting the HDMI driver and switched to the other audio output modules in VLC. I've also checked I'm still member of the "audio" group.
    Edit:
P.S. Solved this myself. I had a USB-to-MIDI adapter cable plugged in during boot, which seems to have been causing these problems. I suppose systemd thought it was a USB sound card? I was wondering why dmesg said something about USB sound when the computer doesn't have any USB sound devices. Hardware detection epic fail. Although I guess the cable counts as a MIDI device at least, so in a way it's correct.
So it looks like I'll always have to unplug the MIDI cable before rebooting.

  • Audio device is not working, i have installed proper drivers, but audio device is not working

    hi,
I have installed registery mechanic last week and made a system run in my laptop. After re starting my laptop, my audio devices are not working fine. I have installed the drives correctly and they are reflecting in program lists, how ever the audio device is not working. If I am reinstalled the system,  My audio device is working fine, I have installed a fresh OS, but sitll its not working fine, could you help me to fix this one.

    Tecra A8
    Model No = PTA83L-04C02N
Can you please tell me from where I need driver so that my "Fn" key will be operation? Right now I tried to use "Fn" with F6 and F7 which suppose to change screen resolutions but nothing is happening.
Can you please tell me if I reinstall New OS (Windows XP - Sp2) then in which order which driver and Toshiba software I should install?
Hard to find XP drivers and utilities for that machine, Manoj. But you're in luck because the Asian part-number family PTA83L corresponds to the European PTA83E.
Go to the European download site and look up the Tecra A8 with Short Model No. PTA83E. You'll find 40 XP drivers, utilities, and BIOS updates.
Install the Chip Set Utility first, then the Display Driver, and then the other major drivers. Install the Common Module prior to Toshiba utilities and other programs.
    Good luck!

  • Audio files don't work in FCE

I have clips that I want to use in Final Cut Express that have audio in 48 KHz, 16-bit integer mode.
The FCE manual says "16-bit audio: For video capture and output, 16-bit audio is almost always used"
When I import the clips into FCE and place them in my sequence, I get the dreaded red line over the audio, and I can't seem to "render," so essentially, my clips have no sound.
The default audio settings for my sequence are 48 KHz, 32-bit floating point, about which the FCE manual says "Final Cut Express HD mixes the audio in your program internally at 32-bit, floating-point resolution even if your source audio is 16-bit. The result is that all audio calculations are made with higher precision, maximizing the quality of your program’s audio."
But since my audio files don't work in FCE, something is not right, and I don't know how to change it. The only way to change sequence settings is to load presets, none of which give me contol over the audio settings at this level. How do I get my audio files to work?
    Thanks,
    Rebecca

Ok, so I opened up one of the orignal clips in QT, and clicked on "Export -> Quicktime movie." Under settings, I made sure the compression was DV/DVCPRO NTSC, and the audio was set to 48 KHz, 32-bit floating point. And exported. And then imported the clip into FCE, and it worked! (Even my teacher in my Final Cut class couldn't answer this one for me).
Question is, if all cameras record at 16-bit interger (as the FCE manual says) and FCE requires 32-bit floating point (as it seems to), why doesn't it do the conversion automatically (as the manual suggests, but does seem to actually do)? I guess I don't really need this question answered, since I now have a fix, but I still need to use QT to convert every clip before I can use them in FCE, which is still a pain.
    Thanks,

  • SP A60: Upon resume from standby, why devices don't work?

    Hi there,
A question about my Toshiba Satellite Pro A60 (P2.8GHz, 40GB, Win XP Pro, as factory-delivered and extended with Belkin 54G PC-card wireless network adapter).
When the laptop wakes up from standby, several devices don't work anymore, e.g. the wireless network-card. I haven't found anything to (un)check for Wakeup-On-Lan, resume, power management or anything similar.
After a full reboot, all works fine again.
What could I do to let all devices work the same after waking up from stand-by?
Thanks in advance for your reply.
    Regards,
    Herman Zandt

    Hi Horwath
Indeed not easy to explain. It doesn't make any difference if I use an AC power supply or battery, the same problem happens with both power sources.
I re-checked the whole issue: upon pressing the on-switch on the SP A60 whilst it is blinking yellow (ie. A60 is in standby mode), it reboots perfectly without any errors. All devices work, ie. connectivity wireless card with base station ("excellent"), USB-ports, modem is recognised, touchpad works, DVD/CD-RW reads and soundcard works. (In fact, subject of this email is not correct anymore...)
To be precise, what is NOT working is the data transfer, neither in my internal zone (LAN), nor outside (the Internet).
Summarised: upon resuming from standby, the SP-A60 operates as being purely local without recognising anything outside the machine, despite the wireless network card being properly installed and excellent connectivity with the base station shown.
As said, after full reboot all works fine again. No settings or checks have been found related to this. I'm running the latest BIOS.
Any ideas? A hardware- or software-related issue?
    Thanks a zillion,
    Herman

  • Is there a way to use aggregate audio devices in W7 64bit?

Recently Avid Audio released Pro Tools 9. This version of their software is no longer tied to their hardware. Mac users are now able to use more than one audio interface for audio i/o, increasing the number of channels to simultaneously record from. Is there
any way in W7 Home Premium to create an audio profile that combines different interfaces?
For example, I connect a USB audio device (MBox 2) and a firewire device (M-Audio ProFire 2626). Can I have both recording into Pro Tools at the same time?

Just saw this old Post and had to respond, better late than never and MS Still has not given us musicians the love we need with regard to low latency Audio Processing.
Yes it can be done but it's very Hardware Dependent.  Both your Devices need to be WDM driver compliant. This is not as fast native ASIO driver w/ regard to latency.  There are also limitations like Word Clock timing and no direct monitoring
but depending on what you are looking to do, it may work for you. You could use this for instance to connect a Roland TR-8 (10 Channels out) and Roland TB-3 (2 Channels) and System-1 also 2 Channels out (yeah I'm Roland fan) via USB for
a total of 14 Output channels @96KHz to the DAW.
    1. Install all additional audio interface Drivers
    2. Install ASIO4all
    3. Set ASIO4all as your default driver in your DAW software.
    4. Open the ASIO4all control panel and click on the wrench.
    5. Enable all desired WDM devices.
    6. Device should appear I/O setup of your DAW
Set Word clock to External- (you may also need to reset you Devices driver to "Legacy Mode"

  • Audio device won't work correctly

I have a plug in called Real Guitar 2. It has always worked in the past but now it has vanished from my list of audio devices. It appears in my dock and It's in my applications folder. I can get it to play but when I record with it, it records all the other tracks!! It's driving me mad! Why are all the tracks bleeding into the track I'm recording on? The other strange thing is that I can't make the internal mic stop recording. I even used headphones and still the internal mic is recording!! (I also turned the monitor off) When I try to shut off the mic, the plug-in doesn't make a sound and cannot be recorded at all. What is going on? Has the company that makes the plug in turned it off? Why doesn't the computer recognize the plug-in as it always has in the past? I'm assuming that is the reason for the problem. How do I fix this? In general, why is the internal mic always ON, even when it's not being used? When I switch to "LINE IN", the plug in won't work. I'm baffled.

It was a dumb mistake! After trying many options I finally realized that I was inadvertently trying to use the plug in as a "real instrument" instead of a "software instrument". It had been several months since I used it and I guess I forgot about those little details.

From the time that I got my mac, I have been able to both audio and video, although not screen sharing. I can live without screen sharing, but it would be nice to have if fixable. Now though, audio and video chats don't work at all. I always get an error message that reads,
"There was a communication error during your chat.
Failed to start Video Chat because:

I know that my friends aren't canceling the chats, and especially the appleu3test02 bot.

  • Satellite M60: USB devices don't work

    Hi...
I have a Satellite M60 and all USB devices with microphone (webcam, VoIP telephone) not work.
If someone could assist with some suggestions I would be grateful.

    Hi Enrico
In my opinion this has nothing to do with the USB ports.
If the USB devices are recognized so the USB ports works.
I think the mic doesn't work because of the audio settings.
Go to the control panel and choose the sound & audio devices.
There go to advanced and check the volume controls
Try to play around with the mic settings.
