Aggregator vs. daisy chain for Captivate 4?

Hello,
I am new to Captivate and I am using Captivate 4.  I have a large project that I am developing (over 100 slides with audio/video included).  I have read about daisy chaining and use of the aggregator.  Am I understanding it correctly that the aggregator is just a formalized daisy chaining tool?   I am wondering which approach to use (aggregator vs daisy chaining the old fashioned way), and if I should just go ahead and create separate project "chapters" using rule of thumb project size & then just combine them.  Or, should I just create the entire project and break it up later either for daisy chaining or the aggregator.  Thanks in advance for any help.
Steve

  • How Do I Stop Aggregator from Daisy Chaining My Movies?

Aggregator's default configuration shows all the movies in a project back to back (daisy chaining),but I want the user to be able to control the navigation. How do I stop Aggregator from doing that? There don't seem to be any configuration options in Aggregator itself, so I assume that each project must be configured separately in Captivate. If that's the case, and if there's a solution to this problem, what configuration setting or settings need to be set in the projects before they're imported into Aggregator?

    Hi there
Indeed it would appear that Aggregator simply consecutively plays through the listed movies in order. This seems to occur regardless of how you have specified each individual project as far as the Start and End actions.
One way past it is to ensure you insert a Click Box or Button object on the last slide of each of the Captivate projects that are part of the Aggregator. By adding the Click Box or the Button the project should just remain paused until some other interaction causes the playhead to resume.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Aggregated Device & Daisy Chained MOTU

I am trying to use 2 Motu Ultralites with Logic Express. I have set up an aggregate device in audio midi set-up, and slaved the clock source of the second to the first. The trouble is when I go into logic express and choose the aggregated device I only get the audio inputs for the first one (ie 1-12). I'd expect to see 24 inputs.
What am I doing wrong? I have spent hours on this!

I'm guessing that because LE limits you to 12 simultaneous inputs, LE is picking only the first 12 as available. I would have thought you could select which of all your inputs you want to use, but apparently not. Do all inputs show up in Audio?MIDI setup?

  • Daisy Chaining Captivate Files

I am trying to daisy chain some Captivate 5 files together by using a Next button and opening the next module up as a project. It works fine on my C drive, but when I move it to a different network location, nothing happens when I click on the Next button. I've read similar posts and learned Flash settings may be the problem, but I went into Global Settings and added the network share as a trusted site and it still didn't work. The trusted site entry looks like this \\fs105001\shared\InfoSecTraining. Could it be that it isn't possible to set up security on a network share? Also, if I do get it working, and it turned out to be security, will the security settings work for other users on the network?

Setting up Flash Global Security for your own box won't make the files play from the same network location for other users.  Sorry.
If at all possible, DON'T use a network share to deliver your files.  Find some way to put them on a web server and use HTTP instead.  Then Flash Security is unlikely to be an issue.

  • Daisy-chaining within an LMS

I am trying to run a web based training I created with Captivate 2 in a Meridian Global LMS. I created the WBT in segments (daisy chaining them together so that the end of one jumps to the beginning of the next). When I upload and try to make the parts work together in the LMS only the first segment works. I am exporting the Captivate files as SCORM 1.2-compliant.  Has anyone been successful in getting daisy-chaining of Captivate files to work in a SCORM-compliant LMS?

Daisy-chaining files in an LMS is bad practise and will almost certainly result in failure. I bet that you have each of the daisy-chained files set to report to SCORM as well so it would probably reset and restart SCORM communication every time it loads a file.
Instead you should create a multiple SCO SCORM manifest. Since you are using CP2 you can only do this manually by using a third party tool such as Reload. If you have the eLearning suite from Adobe they have a "SCORM packager" included that could do this for you.

  • 2 thunderbolt displays worked fine daisy chained, moved one to work in other room, now only one will work.  both work independantly or both plugged into my macbook pro.

I have 2 thunderbolt displays and have had them daisy chained for months where I only would plug one into my macbook pro 15" retina and both displays have worked great.  The other day I moved one of them into the conference room, connected also a HDMI cord to a projector to do some work with staff on software design.
I brought my thunderbolt back into my office and plugged it back into the other thunderbolt dispay, then plugged the other display back into my macbook and started it up and now I can only get one to work daisy chained.  They both work great independantly or if both of them are plugged into my macbook pro, but not daisy chained any longer.
Is there a setting I need to look at to maybe reset so that my macbook pro will use both thunderbolt displays daisy chained?
Thanks for anyones advice and sharing any similar issues and how you fixed the issue.

    Hi there,
The first thing that I would recomend is resetting the PRAM on your portable.
OS X Mountain Lion: Reset your computer’s PRAM
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ph11243
If the issues persist, then you may need to force the device to detect displays.
OS X Mountain Lion: About the Display pane of System Preferences
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5369
    How can I detect displays?
If the detect displays option is not available, hold down the Option key while you are in the Display pane.

  • Daisy Chaining Projects in captivate 4 - Can anyone help me?????

I'm at my wits end. I have three projects that I want to seemlessly run back to back, a to b to c then stop. I have done the Edit>Preferences>Project> Start and End, Project End options - Action = Open other project, Project name for both project a & b; published the SWF w/export HTML in Flash Player 8 for all of them to the same folder; and here are my issues:  1: when i click the html file for project a: nothing runs (this could be something else, but still....:((  )  Then, just to be sane, I republished project a, and clicked ok to the view project message. I only get to view project a. no linking/daisy chain/etc.
what the hades am I doing wrong??? oh, btw, I working on a locked down pc so I can't upload the patch... and need a workaround if it's a patch thing.
    shoot me.

Just a thought here but if you want to daisy chain your projects, have you considered using the Aggregator? To do this you would simply publish SWF files A,B and C, create a new Aggregator project, add the three SWF files and then publish the entire project. Once published you would then get a new SWF and web page. Double-clicking new HTML file would then load the three SWFs into a SWF wrapper.

  • Can I use NI 8451 for daisy chained SPI? How?

    Hi Experts,
I am new to Labview and now I am trying to find a solution how I can read and write SPI commands on a daisy-chained configured master-slave. The system I am using has 2 slaves. Each slave would need 24 bits per command frame and SCLK is at 400 kHz. Is it possible to use NI8451 for this problem? I would like to know because we would like to purchase this module if it can do the job.
I hope you can help me.
    Thanks.

If you go to NI's website (ni.com) and search for USB-8451, you will find a lot of information about this device.  The user manual specifies that it has 8 chip select lines, so it can handle up to 8 slave devices.  The document shows how to hook it up and how to use it.  There is a Labview driver library for this device to make your programming easy.

  • Can i daisy chain external drives and use multiple disks for my iTunes libraries

It's amazing how much content you can acquire. I've filled my 2TB external drive with content. I purchased another drive and daisy chained them. How do I get additional uploads to automatically go to the new drive? Itunes is indicating that the drive is "full".
Please help! I've got 6 downloads effectively "paused"

No, sorry, Time Machine can only back up to a single volume.
Short of getting a larger disk, your best bet is to back up one drive (probably the OSX drive) with Time Machine, and use a different app to back up the other one to a different drive.  See the green box in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #27 for some suggestions.

  • Best Practice for Daisy Chaining 2 SG300-10 switches

I have an initial SG300-10 installed and have run out of RJ-45 ports.
Is there a "best practice" or preferred procedure to daisy chain a 2nd SG300-10 to the 1st switch?
    Thanks.

These switches are not stack able.  Just add a second switch and uplink it just like the other 10.

  • Does daisy chaining affect assessment results?

I need to break a large Captivate 4 project file into smaller segments. If I daisy chain the resulting segments, what will happen to the assessment results from the first one or two segments. Currently, assessment results from all slides appear as a cumulative total after the quiz at the end of the tutorial. If I split the tutorial and daisy chain the segments, will the total assessment results still include assessment results from all slides in the daisy chain?
And what happens to the table of contents? Will every segment of the daisy chain have the same table of contents? If so, how would I update the table of contents if I needed to?

If you daisy chain a project then each of the projects will be a separate instance with no communication between them. Basically all assesments, TOC etc will only apply to that particular project so you wont be able to get a cummulative total for your assesments in the last chapter.
If you have access to a Flash programmer you could create functionality to store the quiz results from each chapter and then bring them all together in the last chapter.
As for the TOC there is no joy. Perhaps you could use the Aggregator function instead but the functionality and level of detail is not the same as with the TOC.

  • Yet another question on daisy chaining...

After having thoroughly sifted through prior discussion on the subject, as well as looked at the online tutorial (gooberguides) and other sources, I am compelled to come back and ask this question. This is Captivate 5.
Here is my scenario, and it seems to be quite simple. I have a large project, which I want to break up into smaller ones. This is so that users don't have to sit and wait for it to load from the LMS before they can start. I need to have SCORM reporting, so that users can leave and come back to where they were. I don't think I can resolve this using Multi-SCO Packager, as the resulting package doesn't appear as a single module, but as several modules within a single package. Aggregator wouldn't quite work, since it forces that TOC, which I don't want to have.
One more wrinkle in the whole thing is that I have my own TOC, which is on the first slide of Module no. 2, to which I have a link from most other (subsequent) modules.
I have successfully daisy-chained all of this using the online guide mentioned above. I used 'Open URL or file'. At first, I tried pointing to the SWF file for the next module, but when I deployed the final package, my browser (Firefox) wanted to download the next module, instead of playing it back in the browser window. Pointing to HTML file resolved that. My links back to the Module 2 (TOC) work fine. It took me a while to figure out why none of the linking wouldn't work at first. It only started working when I removed spaces from file names (this I couldn't find anywhere in documentation, and stumbled upon by myself).
My only problem (a deal breaker) is with SCORM tracking. When I publish with reporting turned on, the following happens: first module plays back throughout (all five slides). At the end, it loads the second module. However, when second module starts playing, it either freezes on load, or skips right past first 5 slides and starts playing from slide no. 6. This is telling me that the LMS is treating this as if the user has closed the session after reaching slide 5, then immediately re-opened it, so the LMS is sending him straight to slide 6, except this is now Module 2, and not Module 1. Meanwhile, user has never touched anything and has actually never left the session. Sure enough, if I leave the session at, for example, Module 2, slide 7, when I come back, LMS will be stuck trying to load Module 1, slide 7 (which doesn't exist; my Module 1 has only 5 slides).
So, apparently, simple daisy-chaining doesn't work well with SCORM reporting. Meanwhile, Aggregator (and Multi-SCO Packager) aren't doing it for me, as they force TOC to show individual modules.
Does anyone have any ideas how to work around these obstacles?

Copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the old computer to the new computer.
Open iTunes, everything in iTunes should be exactly as it was on the old computer.
    Connect the device and sync.

  • Daisy chain of 3550 and 3560

Can we use a mixture of 3550 and 3560 in a daisy chain. What i mean is
1.if i want to connect 4 switches in a daisy chain can two of them be 3550's and the other two be 3560's.
    2. If i ahve 2 3550's in a daisy chian can i add one more 3560 to the same chain

it may be more beneficial to aggregate 3 of the switches to one via the GB/SFP ports.
    ie:
    switch1-3560 >> switch2
    switch1-3560 >> switch3
    switch1-3560 >> switch4
having correctly sized ports for aggregated bandwidth will be required.
you can also perform daisy chaining as you've asked.

  • Is there a project size limit for Captivate 3?

    Hello,
I'm using Captivate 3 and building a project that is currently approximately 19,200 KB.  I don't know if that's too large but as I continue to build, it seems to be acting funny like it's too big.  For instance, it closed on me without warning which it never did before.  Also it's taking longer & longer to prepare for previewing. My project is only about 1/3 finished so I'm concerned I'm going to get into more & more problems given its growing size.
I thought to break it into smaller projects and link them using the MenuBuilder but I haven't figured out a way to get back to this menu page from the project.  In Advance Settings of a particular menu item, I can select "Open link in the same window."  This happens but at the end of watching that linked project, I just get a blank screen.  If I "X" out of that project at the end of it using the "X" on the menu, I get a white screen. If I use the MS Window's "X", then everything closes included the menu preview window.  Is it possible to somehow use a button to get back to the menu page and not have a 2nd window open for the menu item that was selected? Or maybe I can keep building in a single project b/c there is no size limit?
    Thank you,
    Jeanne

    Welcome to our community, Jeanne
Indeed Captivate 3 projects *DO* actually have a "size limit". But I'm unaware of any specific byte size that is to be concerned about. Typically we recommend folks keep projects at somewhere between 50-65 slides as a "rule of thumb" guideline for an upper limit.
There are a great many factors that come into play with this. Things such as:
Authoring PC Specifications (available memory, hard drive, processor speed, etc.)
How many objects are on each slide
Generally you are able to split things up and perform what is called a "Daisy Chain" approach. This is where one project ends and another is launched as the ending action. You may also specify that the end action for projects be to open the SWF that contains the menu.
    Hopefully this helps... Rick

  • Camera not recognized unless daisy-chained with external HD

I just bought a LaCie 250GB external FW drive to use as a scatch disk for FCE. Now my camera (Sony DCR-HC30) is not recognized unless I plug it into the LaCie. I borrowed a second camera (Panasonic), swapped the FW cable while the camera and HD were plugged into separate FW ports, and the Panasonic was immediately connected in both iMovie (v4) and FCE. I've tried the suggested fixes (unplug, Garageband, swap ports, new cable...) and the problem remains. I upgraded memory, QT and applied several patches prior to attaching the HD. Any suggestions? Can I live with the daisy chain arrangement or will that cause problems importing to the external HD? (I've not tried to import any video yet). Thanks

Can I live with the daisy chain arrangement or will that cause problems importing to the external HD?
    Yes and No, respectively.
(That's what I always did before getting an internal 200GB hard drive in my iMac.)
