Aging and Auto Refresh

I read from one of the previous threads that "Even if rows are aged out by the aging mechanism, if those rows still exist in Oracle they will simply be pushed back to the cache on the next AUTOREFRESH." Aging is to remove data that is no longer needed. So, if autorefresh keeps updating TimesTen with the already aged out data, Cant aging and autorefresh co-exist to achive this purpose?

Ageing policy in TimesTen (TT) can vary depending on your set up. In general ageing is there to get rid of unused data (based on LRU ageing, Time-based ageing etc). I believe the ageing process can also be usage based. For example remove Least Recently Used data when database usage passes > 90% threshold. Since in normal operations, there is finite size to TimesTen DataStore and TempStore and disk resident databases (DRDB) have a habit of growing then TT has no choice except getting rid of the old data.
In normal operations probably you will deploy Incremental Autorefresh whereby Oracle tracks changes and periodically updates only the rows in the cache group that have changed in Oracle's DRDB. If that is the case then those updated rows will end up in MRU section of the cache again and will not be deleted.
I think the best cache strategy is to use something like DYNAMIC ASYNCHRONOUS WRITETHROUGH GLOBAL CACHE GROUP where data from corresponding Oracle tables will be loaded into TT on request. So this is loading data on demand which is kind of useful as the first load would be slow (replication getting rows from Oracle DRDB table into TT table). However, subsequent references in TT to the row will be fast as by then the row is already in TT's cache. In real life scenario, TT only gets data as it is needed and it deletes data as it does not need.

Using Excel 2007 to display and auto-refresh planning.

Hi all,
a customer wants to display a simple planning screen on a 24" monitor.
We're using an old domain pc, with domain user (planning) logged on to display the planning file.
We've configured the worksheet so that multiple users can edit it.
I've also found the settings which auto-update the file. I was amazed that this is standard functionality.
Although, it doesn't work as we expected. It goes well, but when too much users work in the file, some users still get the error message: 'can't open file because it's already in use'.
This does NOT happen when the file is not constantly opened by the 'planning user'.
So that's one issue, probably caused by the 'planning user', having the file opened 24/7.
Another issue is that the file stops auto-refreshing after a while. I didn't find any pattern in that.
So basically, what the customer needs is:
Display Excel worksheet
Auto-refresh
I've found some nice articles about SharePoint and Excel services, but unfortunately they're running SharePoint 2010 Foundation, which does not include Excel services...
Is there any other way or tool to achieve this, without using the Excel-built-in options?
Or maybe there's a fix for that problem?

I'm afraid you have just discovered how bad these features are implemented in Excel: they just don't work properly and I always advise against using them for any serious long-term solution.
If you do not have Excel services, then editing the document on the server (which would prevent lots of problems) is out of the question indeed.
Alternatives depend a lot on your needs.
For example, you could use sharepoint lists that the users can edit and then import those lists into Excel for reporting purposes.
But if this is relational data (parent-child tables, which is very often the case) then a database solution is probably the best route to take.

Konqueror file management and auto-refresh

Hello all,
I am working with Arch and KDEmod and so far everything is pretty good. I do have one problem that is a bit annoying.
Konqueror file manager windows do not automatically refresh when viewing the URLs system:/home or system:/users/jay. The system:/home URL is what is opened when you click on the "Home" icon, so this makes this problem stand out.
Anyway, the problem can be reduced by doing the following:
1. Open Konqueror file browser and select "Home Folder" from the tree on left. This puts you at the URL system:/home. (Alternately, just click on the "Home" icon that gets set up in the kicker by KDEmod.)
2. In a terminal window create a file in your home directory. Note that the file does not show up in the Konqueror window.
3. Press F5 to refresh Konqueror. The newly created file now appears.
4. In a terminal window delete the file you just created. Again, note that the file does not disappear from the Konqueror window.
5. Press F5 to refresh Konqueror. The file now disappears.
The correct behavior is that when you create and delete the file, it shows and then disappears from the Konqueror window accordingly. Currently this does not work for the system:/home (Home Folder) or system:/users/jay (Users Folders/<user full name>) URLs. Interestingly enough, if I type the URL "/home/jay" into the Konqueror location bar in file management mode and then do the above steps, the auto-refresh works fine.
Does anyone have any clues as to why the refresh doesn't work for the system:/ URLs? Is this by design? What plugin actually provides the system:/ URL schema?

Formated Search: Auto refresh with two conditions.

Hi,
I've created a Formated Search in one of my column.
I defined my formated search as :
- Auto refresh "When Exiting Altered Column" Item No.
- Display Saved Values.
Now how can I make it Auto refresh with two conditions?
- Auto refresh "When Exiting Altered Column" Item No.
And
- Auto refresh "When Field Changes" Customers/Vendor Code.
- Display Saved Values.
Is there any way to make it work?

Hi Bruce,
You could try this trick.
You need to execute SELECT1 in Col1 when Item No. column is altered or the Customer code is changed.
Then, in the Item No. column asign a new Formatted Search which selects the Item No. column value (Its value) when the Customer code is changed.
And in the Col1 asign a formatted search that acts when the Item No. column is altered.
I think this should do the trick.

Auto Refreshment of Dashboard

Actually the data in the database is changing after each 15 minutes.I want to refresh the data in the dashboard automatically after a certain interval without pressing the refresh button.
Is this possible? If yes, Please give your guidance.

You need to use java script to achieve this. I have an example here http://oraclebizint.wordpress.com/2008/01/02/oracle-bi-ee-101332-ibot-results-within-dashboard-sections-and-auto-refreshing-sections/. But remember this would not refresh the data if you have caching enabled. For that you need to make a call to nqcmd and then clear the cache, then refresh the page.

Broadcasting of workbooks, auto-refresh and other questions

Hello Reporting gurus.
Our users run BEX Analyser queries but this is evolving towards more automation and fancy things. A lot of threads exist on the subject but I have not been able to find clear answers. We are on BI 7.
1) How do we use the broadcaster to refresh workbooks and output the results to a network share drive.
2) Queries being part of the workbooks work with user input variables. Do I have to change all queries (or create new ones identical) with user exits variables to fill in the fields for auto-refreshing w(ith let say the current year and current fiscal period etc...) ?
3) Is it possible to create a parameter input screen to pass on variables values to the broadcaster before the auto-refresh takes place so that I don't have to create user exit variables ?
4) How can we view workbooks with the BEX WEB Analyser ? Or do we have to create an application with WAD ?

in Analyzer you have an menu entry publish with BI broadcaster, then a broadcaster will appear. there you can create a setting. inside that setting you can use a variant and with SPS 13 also variable sets. There you can define the users who should receive the updated workbook by mail. It is not possible to save to file system, but you can save in Portal.Web Analyzer is only to use with WAD and is not able to process Workbooks.

Auto-Refresh and Order By for view accessors

We have set auto-refresh to true on a VO(LovVO) in shared AM and used the same to create an lov in another VO. Now if we have Order By in LovVO then we get the exception:
ORA-29983: Unsupported query for Continuous Query Notification
This is because of the Order By clause. When i remove the order by then there is no error. But we need the data to be ordered. So I have added the below code LovVOImpl.java executeQueryForCollection method:
if(this.getSortBy() == null){
this.setSortBy("Name");
super.executeQueryForCollection(object, object2, i);
and this is working fine. Is there any other declarative solution for this scenario?
I tried setting the order by in the view accessor but that also appends to the sql query and throws the above error.

LOV's auto refresh and having unique values.

Hi, I'm having LOVs connected with few attributes of a table, and those fields are used in view criteria of the table.
This view criteria is used in the af:query component as search fields.
To avoid the duplicates in the LOV, i created a separate view for each of the attribute, using the distinct key , and connected them with the attribute via view accessors. So that the af:query component , search field drop downs can give unique value of the column.
There is an another requirement, to refresh the LOVs of the search field, when there is a change in the database. To accomplish this auto refresh property of the view's query, i added the PK of the table with each view. By doing this i can see the latest values of the database in the UI . ie, the LOVs of af:query getting the changes of database.
But this one causing, the duplicate values to be in LOV, and the distinct key word in the view's query will not work because of the PK of table is added to query.
I tried different ways to query , like groupby . But no success.
I need both auto refresh as well as unique values in the LOVs of the af:query . Could some one point me a reference to solve this. Thanks .

why you have done that what is your reason?!!! it seems so wierd to me? you could easily add distinct on query of the viewobject!

Apple, please fix safari random crash and tab auto refresh

Apple, are those issues ever going to get fixed? They destroyed iOS 7's usability and the latest 7.1 beta doesnt seem to address either.
1) Safari randomly crashes - happens multiple times a day. Sometimes opening new pages, sometimes scrolling through existing page. This issue has NEVER happened on iOS 6.
2) Tabs auto refreshing when you switch from 1 tab to the next - it is EXTREMELY annoying, for example when i was typing up a post in a tab or looking at the result of a long search, then need to lookup something else so i open up a new tab, then when I go back to the original tab, it automatically refreshes wiping out everything i just typed or the searh result. This issue has NEVER happened in iOS 6.
I am using ipad air with the latest update. Please fix them, it's unacceptable.

Safari auto refresh and iCloud

When composing an email in the webmail application at the iCloud website, the Safari screen on my MacBook Air will refresh every few minutes, causing me to lose the work I have done. I end up with a blank screen for the window that I was composing the email in. I don't recall seeing this problem on my other Macs, which are not MBAs. Does anyone have an idea on how to stop this auto refresh? I tried turning off Java Script but iCloud requires it to work.

Well, perhaps I have fixed this problem. I cleared out all the cookies on my MBA yesterday. I tested this again today and so far, so good. I went 5 minutes without the screen refreshing on me. We'll see if it stays fixed.

Auto refresh powl list every night and from an action in another WDA comp

2) I want to update powl list when user performs an action in another WD Component.

Hi,
There is only one way to do that.
Create a report and call refresh query method of POWL API class.
Directly you won't be able to refresh the query.
So what you have to do is you have to call the method Get Query. This method will give all the queries for the User.
All the query GUIDs you have to pass to refresh queries. In the refresh Query method there is an indicator for refresh query. You have to set that indicator to refresh.
Remember POWL queries are user specific. So you have to run it for the particular user.
If you want to get all the Queries then You have to modify the method Get Queries.

Auto refresh of data in Cube

Hi,
I created a cube and deployed with data, also viewed. I changed data in oracle table, from which the cube was prepared, but the change in the data did not appear in cube. Is there a property (auto refresh or auto update) associated with cube / App / database in EAS which can be turned on?

Can we connect to Oracle database using MaxL commands?^^^As Srinivas pointed out, you need to use the MaxL command "import" to load data into Essbase.

Importing a large table data on certain interval makes system and application very slow.^^^Do you have to reload all of the data? Can you just load the differences?
How many records are you loading?

Auto Refresh OBI Page for Current Day Only

I have a obiee page which needs to get refreshed every 30 seconds . I could able to do that using <META HTTP-EQUIV = "REFRESH" CONTENT = "30"> . But the triggy part is , auto refresh needs to be applied only for current day and not for any date range selected by user .
Details :
Prompts are defaulted to current date and time on the page, but user can also select date ranges as well . So the setting for auto refresh needs to apply only on current date (default prompt values) and not if the the user select data range .
let me know if any of you guys have come across such .

OM: Disable auto refresh check box in Quick Sales Order Form

we want to let the auto refresh check box always be checked and can not be updated with Form personalize.
I didn't find the item in this form,
and i konw that there is a value which defined in the Profile : [OM: Quick Sales Order Form: Auto Refresh](ONT_QUICK_OE_AUTO_REFRESH).

Actualy,the profile "OM: Quick Sales Order Form: Auto Refresh" has been setted into 'Line' firstly as we want to auto-refresh order lines.
So the 'auto refesh' checkbox is checked with default value in the screen,
but the order line would not be auto-refreshed when user uncheck the checkbox manually.
So we want to disable or invisible the 'auto refesh' item in the screen with form personalize,
the problem is i can not find the item or the block in the form.
Or is there any suggestions to archive this?

Outlook 2007 won't auto refresh the internet calendar

HI,
I subscribed a web ical with the instruction (File > Account Settings and then the Internet Calendars
Tab, then click New and enter the path)
for outlook 2007:
the new calendar could display all the events correctly after set up, but it won't update the new event anymore automatically. even I close and re-open the outlook, it still not update, the last update time is the time when set up this calendar.
for outlook 2010, i tested, it can auto update the internet calendar when open the outlook everytime.
is this the problem with outlook 2007?
(I don't want user to press F9 to refresh everytime)
and i also tried to add X-PUBLISHED-TT property in the iCal file and it seems not working also
