AGP 8X VGA on (old) MS-6547

Hi, i'm thinking about upgrading my VGA to a 6600-based. However, all the new boards are AGP 8X and my motherboard (MS-6547 / 645E Max-U) is only AGP 4X. I have read that AGP 8X is retrocompatible with AGP 4X. However, i have also read on some sites, that the signaling voltage is not (or it may not be), as AGP 8X use 0.8V and AGP 4X 1.5V.
So, what do you think it will happen in my case? Will the GPU work, or will i end up with a burned GPU and MB?
Thanks.

Really? Great, going to buy mine now!
But how do you find that out? I tried searching the web about those family of cards and didn't see any of that on the specs. The tech details rarely say anything about the supported voltage. For example, Gigabyte's 6600 versions only say the board is 8X AGP 3.0, which is not very helpful...
I wish the specifications were more... specific.

  • What monitors are people using w/ there Rage 128 Cards (AGP) ADC/VGA

Need to get a new monitor and wondering if anyone is running a new LDC w/ this card?

thx John. I got the viewsonic VA912b. What a huge screen compared to my old apple 17" studio display CRT/ADC. Just trying to get used to a LCD. All my years of computing have been staring in CRT monitors. There is alittle bit of ghosting w/ LCD but I'm sure if i was using the DVI connection instead of the VGA it would probrably be crisper. But for right now i need to replace my old monitor the cheepest way and I could figure in buying a new video card and monitor at the same time. But maybe in the future i will get a new card and put this monitor up to its full potential. But I got to say it is nice looking into a 19" screen instead of a 17". I can't believe the size difference in the two inches.

  • AGP card switch from old G5 to later G5 - Will it work?

I have a reconditioned G5 from 2005 that I picked up to replace by old crashed and burned G5 from 2003 or so
but it didn't come with a graphics card
NVIDIA GeForce 6600 LE with 128MB of GDDR SDRAM
So I was wondering if i took (cannibalized) the graphics card from my earlier G5 would it work in my later G5?
    Anybody ever done that?
But probably I'll have to buy one. Anybody know where I can order G5 graphic cards?
    thanks

    Hi Ben,
Is it a late or early 2005 G5, the Late ones use PCIe graphics cards like the GeForce 6600 LE & have no AGP slot.
I'm no expert on FCP, but I wonder if it has a pref file from the old G5 that had an AGP card & stored that info in the pref file?
But then again, one of the System Requirements says AGP...

  • 2012 Macbook Pro 15" doesn't recognize VGA monitors plugged into displayport

We have a 2012 Macbook Pro 15" (and a 2010, and a 2011).  The 2012 doesn't recognize VGA/DVI (old) monitors plugged into it, but it does recognize new DVI monitors.
What gives?  I'm not even sure how to diagnose or attempt to treat this.
    2012 Macbook Pro
    OS X 10.8.3
    Wacom Cintiq
    Vuzix iWear
    etc

Does it see, recognize, any usb devices?
Have you tried a smc reset?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
If that doesn't fix it and no usb device is being seen by that port then you have a hardware problem and you need to take the system to apple to be fixed before your warranty runs out.

  • AGP Performance

    I upgraded my computer to a cel 2.6 512 DIMM, 6528LE MSI.
The system is working fine, no crashes, no hangs and i'm doing huge cpu usage operations like ripping DVD 40% faster then my old athlon XP 1700+.
I've been experimenting problems with AGP performance. My old Athlon was rendering 135 FPS on Quake3 normal resolution with a GF 5200 MSI and now i can't do more than 110 FPS.
i've upgraded my FX5200 to a FX5700LE MSI to improve performance but i get no progress, now i'm doing 111 FPS.
I've tried 3 diferents NVidia drivers, latest 1.7 BIOS, latest Intel Inf, DX9.0a, 9.0b and 9.0c.
    What should i do???

You are wrong there, unledd you are talking about a 845D (with PC2100 DDR).
The original 845 with SDR did not preform well at all, an AMD CPU on a KT133A would outpreform it's intel equivilant on a 845 chipset (XP2600+ vs P4 2.6GHz for example).
This is because the AMD CPU can get more work out of the same memroy bandwidth.

  • Nforce2 and 8x agp

how do you get 8x agp to work its enabled in bios i have palitdaytona geforce4 440 mx 64 ddr 8x agp card
but sis sandra says im at 4x

I found this in the Multimedia forum....
    Quote
This is because most bench marks and system utility softwares can only recognize and utilize up to 4X AGP support VGA cards. until there is a fix from Bench Mark and software manufacturers, this problem remains.
I'm not sure if Sandra knows about 8x yet, take a look in the video cards settings tab under settings and advanced,(your card), it should at least show up as 8x under adapter information.

  • AGP showing up as PCI?

Hey all... I have a 865G Neo 2... first off, in the BIOS, there are no options for any AGP settings, like 8X, stuff like that... when i boot my computer up, it shows my AGP 5200 as on the PCI bus? I am confused!

It's showing correct if it's detected as PCI Bus. In BIOS, you'll have to go to PNP/PCI Config> Init Graphics Adapter Priority> Set to "AGP/Int-VGA".
Here's a picture of my detection in Windows:
To see if you are running AGP mode, go to Display Adapters>Properties>General Tab.

  • 2011 MBP not displaying 1920x 1080px on VGA

    Hi,
I just got my 15" MacBook Pro with the hi-res antiglare display.
I was under the impression that this MBP could output to 1920 x 1080 on the VGA
My OLD 13" MB and 17" MBP can output to 1920 on the VGA no problem.
Am i missing something here ???

In my experience with HD projectors and monitors, the Mac Book Pros really want to come out DVI like the older models, not VGA. When you get a mini to DVI cable it comes with the fullest resolution the computer is capable of. If you're using a VGA its like trying to convert the image to your monitor and it doesn't come out as good. This is the cable you want-

  • K8T Neo-V, problems w/ savage agp video card (Stealth III S540)

    Hi all
I have a K8T Neo-V mobo, 512 MB Kingston memory and a Stealth III S540 agp video card. The problem is that when I play any kind of video in my linux box it freezes completely the system, same thing with Windows Xp SP2. When i start Soldier of Fortune it hangs up the system. The agp card is quiet old, i know, could be this a problem with some BIOS setup like 'aperture size' and speed, and so on? Don't know about what this options means  ???,  maybe that's the source of the problem, who can give me some piece of advice about this, please. I'm considering getting a newer and faster agp card, but not in the near future.
    Thank you

I am suprised a card that old even works as I thought those were for the original AGP setup that had different voltages.
I would really recommend grabing a newer card up and if you are just looking for a simple display maybe you can still find an old Ti4200 or such.

  • Anybody know where I can get Nforce3 SATARAID drivers for XP 64-bit?

    HI guys,
I have a MSI K8N Neo2 Plat, on 1.8mod bios with a pair of Seagate 160gb SATA drives. I have a pair of Ballistix 3200 512mb sticks and a 3500+ cpu, with an Nvidia AGP 6800 vga card.
I have the RAID array created fine, but I can't find the two driver files for XP 64 bit to load at the F6 prompt.  I tried loading the stock ones but of course they don't work.  The only other files I've found are in an .exe, which I obviously don't need on THIS pc (old laptop) as it tries to install everything.
Are there WHQL 64-bit drivers that will work yet?  I've been searching google for two days but only find old broken links and .exe files.
    Thanks for any help guys,
    Chris

Aha! Found I had a bad floppy drive, a new one resolved the above error message.  Now I can't get the windows install to go past the first reboot, it reinstalls over and over without ever progressing.  It's progress, and the RAID drivers do appear to install from the F6 floppy, but after the proceeding install segment (and subsequent reboot) I go back to square one.  Do I perhaps have a badly burnt CD?  I have gotten through the first major file write without any errors or skipped files, but I'm a bit lost at the moment.  Any input would be helpful, thanks guys!

  • Dead Radeon 9800 Pro  please help

    Hi,
I think my ATI Radeon 9800 pro 128M AGP graphics card in my early Powermac g5 dual 2G is dying/dead. Looks like it's dropping a bit somewhere as I have blocks of coloured lines all over the screen. THis makes the machine unusable at 1900 x 1200 millions of colours and just about readable if I drop to 256 colours I have tried reseating the board after cleaning it (it was dirty). The fan is still working. I've tried booting from another disk and also driving my Dell flatscreen monitor using the DVI - VGA converter, so eliminating the digital cable and the monitor DVI input from the equation.
My question is this, where can I get a suitable replacement card? I've seen a ATI Radeon™ 9800 PRO Mac Special Edition 256mb AGP for sale on ebay which states it's AGP x 8 - would this work? Any other suggestions for a suitable reasonably priced replacement? I mainly use the machine for photo editing, and have my monitor/printer colour calibrated using a spyder and I only need to connect one monitor. The old card did allow me to turn the monitor through 90 degrees, but I never used the feature.
Another question - could I temporarily use the AGP card from my old G4 500 in the G5 - its an ATI Rage Pro 128 I believe?
    THanks in anticipation.

    Hi Alan,
Thanks for the info, and I feel I should add further to this discussion regarding my own dead card.
What was a hard fault (with similar symptoms to the screenshots shown in Alan's link) despite several attempts to reseat the card (after cleaning it - there was a lot of dust in the fan assy) isn't so hard any more. After fitting the card I bought on ebay and discovering it was DOA, I reinstalled my old card, to discover that it worked again all ok - for about a day and half, then went bad again. Further fiddling around with it revealed that sometimes, reseating it will make it work for variable lengths of time. It's currently faulty and I'm writing this in 256 colour mode with bands of lines down only part of the screen. Once or twice, the card has suddenly started working again without reseating it, but only for about an hour.
The fan on the card is spinning (and was spinning even when very dusty). The fault doesn't seem to be strictly temperature related as leaving the machine powered off in a chilly office overnight oer even for a couple of days has so far, never resulted in the card working on power up - unless it's been reseated first. Also, the card doesn't always go faulty when the mac is working hard and the exhaust fans are blowing out lots of hot air.
I'm wondering if the scenario is more likely to be a solder joint that went bad when the card was running with a dirty fan (ie caused by slight overheating) and is now affected by movement (reseating) & vibration when the machine is in use? Either that or it's the dreaded "tin-pest" disease caused by use of lead-free solder where minute whiskers of tin can "grow" and short across nearby tracks casuing hard to find intermittant faults on circuit boards.

  • Pulling My Hair Out! K7N2 Delta2 & MSI NX6200AX (solved, see link last post)

Posted about the troubles more then a month ago here: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=96306.0 . Quick history, Built my Teens a PC with the Delta2 MB, an old XP1700 CPU, some old DDR, and my old (OC'd for 3 years and still running great) Gainward GF2-Ti. It worked fine. Ran most games just fine and they were happy. Then Son #2 wanted Battlefield 2. Hmmm...it needed Dx9c shader support...which the old card didn't do. So I got (Newegg) a MSI NX6200AX (GF6200 - 128MB - 9c shader support) and its been nothing but nitemares ever since.
It will boot up (did a clean copy of XP even!) in Windows. But as soon as I open a program that does any crunching (Like say trying to load nVidia drivers) the Monitor screen goes "black"....and the little lites go back and forth like Kit the car on Nightrider!!!!! Meaning it has lost signal.
Put the old card in and it fine!!!!!!!
Things I've done trying to fix it:
Reloaded Windows XP SP2 (right now SP2 is not installed yet)
RMA'd the Card for another one.
Bought a new 450W Rosewill PS. (was a nice old Enermax)
Swapped in my 19" Trinitron (thinking maybe the monitor couldn't support the card since thier monitor is a cheapo 17" CRT. Same thing happened to my monitor!)
Dug through the Bios with a fine tooth comb.
Today I added new Kingston DDR I mentioned in another post. Premium HyperX 1GB in Dual Channel. I also re-seated the CPU with new AS5, cleaned out everthing. PC booted up much faster.......
So I tried to load the drivers......AND IT STILL HAS THE SAME PROBLEM!
This is an AGP card, like my old one. I'm at a lost here. I'm about to re-install the old card just so I can get them off my PC. (I took a month off working on thiers so they've been living on mine)
Any ideas? The MB is Fine, Memory is fine, Power Supply is fine, CPU fine.........
Thanks for listening, I'm open to ideas.

Please don't cross post in the forums, it is very confusing
The 350 watt enermax, what does it say on the sticker on the side of the power supply?
I'm curious to how much the amps are on the +12v rail..
    Quote
My quetion now, why would that AGP slot be fine with the old card and overclocking? (sure it was only agp 4x I think, new one is 8x. Dont know what the D.O.T. is......)
Because you are using a card that has higher power requirements for starters, there could be other factors involved, but that would be the first thing I look at. DOT is Dynamic Overclocking Technology and it's integrated in MSI's drivers. I have a sticky topic about it in the VGA section.
Without being able to try the card in another PC, and/or trying a more powerful PSU, the troubleshooting is going to be hampered.
You may consider taking the card to a local shop to see if they can test it for you, and see if the problem follows the card.
I can't count how many times products are RMA'd becuase of the inablity to properly troubleshoot a problem.
I am locking this thread and posting the exact same thing in the other one in the VGA forum here https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=96306.0 <---This issue was solved, by removing overclock settings (Seargent) in the BIOS.

    IRadi8,
Normally I would agree with Supershanks build order (above) but I have the same case you're getting and you could have a serious problem trying to mount your Power Supply AFTER you've already installed your mobo into the case (with the CPU and HSF already installed on it).
I learned this the hard way. If you mount the PSU first, you'll have no problems. But if the mobo (with CPU, Heatsink, Fan, & Memory) are in the case it'll be a very tight fit trying to squeeze the PSU by the HSF and you'll have to remove the Heatsink & Fan to get the PSU in. Seeing as you've spent all the $, I doubt you'd want to take the chance of damaging anything. Just trying to save you some time and aggravation.
Also, your thoughts on dowloading and burning all the latest drivers onto a CD is sound thinking. Another thing to keep in mind is the system drive OS/Drivers/software install order. This will probably be debated, but this order worked well for me:
    1) OS - WinXP?
    2) XP SP2?
    3) NForce Unified Chipset Driver 5.10
    4) DirectX 9.0c
    5) Forceware 66.93 WHQL
    6) Norton Systemworks (or other preferred suite/antivirus program)
    7) Zone Alarm Firewall (may not be necessary if you're strictly using dialup as I see you're putting in that 3Net Internal 56K PCI Fax Modem)
Follow this with all the rest of your APPs, Utilities, and games or whatever. Should work out good for you. I haven't used any Seagate hard drives (I'm a Western Digital man myself), so I'll leave the WinXP install advise to the others.
Good luck with your new rig. Do take your time putting it all together. Dowload and read the manual (mobo) before you get all your hardware so as to be familiar with the possible issues before building.

  • [Radeon] MSI RX9250-T128

Hi.My name is adrian and i'm from Malaysia. I recently purchased a MSI graphic card, that is the RX 9250-T128. This is an AGP based VGA card. I bought it to upgrade my home PC, which is a Pentium 4 processor, based on a MSI motherboard, which is the MSI 845G MAX motherboard. I bought my home PC way back in 2002.
Now, the problem is, once installed the card in the AGP slot, the computer doesn't boot up. Now, the RX 9250 is said in the system requirements to be compatible with AGP 4x.My MSI 845G has an AGP 4x slot and not an AGP 8x slot.
Even before purchasing the VGA card, I checked out from the MSI website about the requirements and the compatibily of both the card and the motherboard. There was nothing about non-compatibilty of these both the motherboard and VGA card.
so what is the problem and what can be done to rectify the problem???PLEASE HELP!!!!
