AGP compatability

Hello there, i've got myself an MSI GF4 Ti4200 VTP 128MB from you guys and works fine in my current motherboard. However i've been looking to upgrade my PC to a P4 chip and require a new motherboard.
I took a look at a Gigabyte mobo for P4 and it has a thing called 'anti burn' to tell u if your VGA card isn't compatible (The mobo uses 1.5V AGP). I'd like to know if my GF4 card is 1.5V compatible as I can't find any info anywhere about it? Much appreciated - cheers.
Mike.

Mike,
The older cards do not even fit the new AGP Slots. The only problem was some of the old Voodoo Cards were made with the 1.5 AGP PCB, but they are all obsolete now.
Take Care,
Richard

  • MSI KT3 ULTRA2-C and AGP compatibility

Hi, I'm just about to buy a new motherboard these days, MSI KT3 ULTRA2-C, with an XP 2000/2000+ and memory, but not a new video card, since i can't afford it right now. I only have an AGP Creative 3D Blaster Banshee 16 MB, but it is a 3.3v agp card (AGP 1.0). I was wondering if this motherboard can support it, i checked in a lot of places, including the manual and it doesn't say anything about the voltage it can take, neither if the AGP slot is universal or not (i.e. if it can support both 1.5/3.3v or only 1.5v). The manual for the KT3V specifically says '4x 1.5v only', but this one just says 'AGP 2.0 1x/2x/4x'. I really need to know this since otherwise i'd have to wait two months to afford another video card. I also checked another post here with an answer to a page with AGP explanation, but it didn't help. Thanks you very much, really

     One AGP slot
     - AGP (Accelerated Graphics Port) specification compliant
     - Supports AGP 2.0 1x/2x/4x
so whats the problem, your fine there

  • MSI MX440-T8X AGP compatibility

Hi, I was wondering if MSI MX440-T8X would work on an old agp 1.0 slot, i know 4x cards should (though not sure), but this one is 4x/8x. Thanks you a lot

It could work 4x without 8x.

  • Motherboard and AGP compatability

    Hello,
I just bought a new Neo2 865PE motherboard, which I would like to install into
my new computer, but I need to figure out one thing :
In the box of the board I found a yellow note which states :
"Both Intel 845 & Intel 850 chipsets supports the latest graphics devices
through the 1.5V AGP 4X interface for enhanced 3D visualization. No 3.3V
AGP 2X interface is supported. In this case, please by all means make sure
that your VGA card is compatible with 1.5V AGP 4X interface before every
installation. Installing any 3.3V AGP 2X cards on Intel 845 or Intel 850 based
mainboards will damage the mainboards and cause malfunction.
Most VGA cards nowdays are designed with AGP 2X/4X-compatible
golden fingers. Some of them, however, either are compatible with both
AGP 2X/4X interfaces (2X/4X modes configurable through jumper seting)
or support only 3.3V AGP 2X interface. Under this circumstance, a discreet
check-up of your VGA card specification would be essential to avoid
damaging Intel 845/850 based mainboard through installation of improper
    VGA cards."
I haw a Radeon 7000 based VGA card, which I don't know if it is AGP 2X/4X 1.5V
or AGP 2X 3.3V - how can I check this (is there any utility that I can run which can
    tell me this information) ?
Also, the note continues to say that if the card is AGP 2X/4X-compatible golden fingers or the card is AGP 2X/4X modes configurable through jumper settings,
I should swith it to 1.5V AGP 4X mode through jumper settings.
The problem is that I didn't get a manual with the card (I think it was OEM), so
is there any way to figure out this as well ?
Thank you for your help :-)
    Itay

I looked through ATIs website and couldn't find any reference to a jumper setting to set 2x or 4x. You should be fine. Look for your manual--it should tell you if you need to change a jumper, but I don't believe your card uses one.

  • G4 Ti4600 VT2D8X - Locked games and other Problems

    HELP!
I have been having problems with games locking up.
I looked at the MSI info in display properties and the card was checked at 4x, even though my bios setting of AGP compatability 3.0 is listed as 8X.  It wouldn't let me check the 8X box.
So I downloaded the latest generic Nvidia driver (ver 44.03), and unfortunately, this cuased more problems.
Now I can't view the MSI info or MSI clock in display properties. I keep getting an XP error that says, "Run a DLL as an App has encountered a problem and needs to close"
Now mo matter how many times I uninstall the xp drivers and put the old one back in, I keep getting this error message trying to view MSI info in display properties.
When my games lock, threre isn't any sound loops happening, but the game freezes visually. I don't think I have a sound card conflict but here are my resources for you to take a look.

    Richard and gfilitti,
Thank you very much for your continued help. This really means a lot to me.
Richard I do not use an antivirus program or a firewall program in the background for that matter.
The only other thing in my sys tray besides nview is a creative console. could that be locking things up?
    gfilitti,
I acutally dsabled that firewire right after I listed my irq's to test that out. It's still disabled and doesn't seem to help the problem.
Is it a necessity that I disable system restore before using drivercleaner?  If so I will do it, but would like to think the program would work as normal without doing that.  Also not exactly certain where to disable the system restore.
So by having 10-second lock up issues, is it safe to say that I don't have any hardware conflicts or potential ram conflicts? There are no irq's being shared and I don't want to pull memory chips if you already know that's not the problem.  I think I am getting close to ending this nightmare. Please help.
    Thank you!!!!!!!!

  • Ti 4800se or Ti 4600????

I have a choice between the Ti 4800se and the Ti 4600 there is a noticeable price difference and it seems as if the 4800se is not too far behind the 4600.
IS there a significant difference??? one that warrants an extra $80
    Please advise
    Thank you

Well, I juz recommending on my point of view here only...
I think that if you are to choose between these two and if I were you, I would think if my mobo could support up to 8x 0.8v capability first(most important), next I would consider price vs performance and lastly how the card will be utilised.
For me in instance, I would forget about Ti4800 as mobo AGP compatibility only up to 4x, Ti4600 proves to be a winner in performances over Ti4800 and it's cheaper though lack of 8x capabilities, card would be for more on Design and gaming(both cards are good in these) .
If to say that you would wanna consider 8x which is better for the future, I personally still think that you should be more patient and wait for more comparisons of 8x cards and I believe that prices will still drop as FX are now starting to invade the market .
P.S. I can't tell you what to buy or what decision to make as you, yourself will still be the Final person buying and using. So the Final Decision is yours, I'm only giving out advices which I think are right and good...
    All the Best...  :D !!!

  • AGP Slot Compatibility

I own a K7T Turbo limited edition Mobo which is only version 2.0  4/2 X AGP, but I had just bought an FX5900 Ultra Graphics card b4 realising. As it is version 3.0 8/4/2X AGP, should I send it back for refund or is it possible to install and run it without causing it to explode?
Also if it is not compatible, what motherboard would you recommend me to buy given that I have an Athalon 1800+ palomino chip & no current intentions to buy CPU?
    Thanks for any help

It is possible to use it without any explosions.

I think you may find some 8x AGP cards will ONLY work in an 8x AGP slot and are not backwards compatible....
Can you name any examples? Seems stupid for manufactuers to cut out part of their product target audience.

  • Which OS 8.6 runs on a G4 AGP 400?

I just purchased a AGP 400 in order to connect an old SCSI HP Scanjet 4c scanner that was connected to my now dead (sigh) Performa 6400. HP does not support OS 9.0 for the Scanjet 4c running HP Deskscan II software, so I need to run OS 8.6 on the AGP. I am told that the AGP requires a special version of OS 8.6 and that 8.6 universal will not install. Does anybody know which version of 8.6 will work and where I can get a copy? Thanks. Brian

    Hi, Brian -
The early model G4 (AGP) models came with a model-specific version of OS 8.6 -
Article #25114 - Mac OS 8, 9: Compatibility With Macs
Note (3) in that article, which is referred to by the entry for the G4 (AGP) models, indicates that a retail OS 8.6 Install CD probably will not work - but it does not state absolutely that it will not.
If you have access to a retail OS 8.6 Install CD, it would be worth giving it a try.
If that is not available or does not work, you would need to obtain a copy of the model-specific Software Install CD that came with that specific model.
Apple's Customer Support sometimes has replacement original CDs available; given the age of your machine that would be doubtful, but may be worth a free phone call to find out -
    http://www.apple.com/contact/phone_contacts.html
Otherwise, sites like EBay are a possibility.

  • 17" Apple LCD Montior + G4 AGP

Can anyone tell me: can I connect a LCD apple monitor (the white/clear style that came out before the latest silver version) to a G4 AGP tower?

    Hi-
    Welcome to Discussions!
Monitor compatibility is dependant on the graphics card and port configuration.
Without knowing your G4 model, all I can do is ask you to look at the following article, which will help you identify the connections that you have.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58692
Depending on the monitor, you will need either a DVI or ADC port to connect.

  • Solaris 8 Intel scan hangs on Windows Sound System Compatable

I am trying to install Solaris on a Anigma Pentium II motherboard with integrated AGP/Audio/DVD, plextor CDRW, 40 gig maxtor ide hd new, unpartioned.....
when the sytem scans it keeps hanging on either "Windows Sound System Compatable" or "ADS Sound Blaster....I do not have a soundblaster card in this machine, it is on board sound......
cous anyone please point me in the right direction......I am new to Solaris, please help me get this installed.....
    thanks, michael

    Just an idea:
After installing the latest kernel + usb patches a system built around
an ASUS P2B showed similar behaviour: Soon after the screen is
cleared during the boot sequence the machine hung. Before installing
these patches the machine was running without problem.
The problem was a disabled USB IRQ in the bios setup. The system has
no USB peripherals connected, so the USB IRQ was disabled in the
    BIOS (in an
attempt to free some IRQs - which is actually nonsense in a PCI
system; some old habit from good old ISA PCs). Re-enabling the
USB IRQ in the BIOS fixed the solaris boot problem. Probably the
solaris 8 USB drivers had detected the USB bus and started scanning
for devices there; and that hung the machine due to non working USB controller IRQs.
Maybe you have a similar problem...

  • Can't enable AGP!

Hi, I upgraded from a Geforce 2 MX 32Mb to a Geforce 4 Ti4200 64Mb.  Unfortunately I see very little improvement in performance!  My 3D Benchmark2001E has gone from 4500 to 5500, and in practice it's even worse: games like Return to Castle wolfenstein still drop to as low as 10 FPS!!
One thing I've noticed is that when I go into control panel->display->MSI information, the boxes concerning AGP are not ticked and it won't let me tick them!  My motherboard has AGP enabled in the bios and is AGP 4 compatable.
I've tried the drivers from the CD, the drivers from the MSI website, and some detonator 30.00 drivers, none of which help.
There's only two things I can think I've done "wrong/differently".
    1)  I didnt uninstall the geforce 2 before installing the new card.
    2)  I installed the geforce tweak utility when I had my geforce 2 and the first few times I loaded it up after upgrading it said I didnt have a geforce card - so it's obviously a bit confused
Can anyone please help because this is the biggest waste of £140 I've ever made!
    Here's my system:
    Athlon XP 1700
    Microstar turbo motherboard
    256 Mb PC133
    Geforce 4 Ti4200 64Mb
    Windows 98

    Uninstall any GeForce tweak utility.
Check in the Control Panel/ System if there are any devices with a question mark or are marked as disabled. At Display here you can check the info about the driver you are using. If any device has a question mark then uninstall it (them) and reboot. It might be a good idea to uninstall the display driver. Next time Win 98 starts provide the necessary drivers (even the latest for AGP, if requested). Make sure you are using the appropriate Display driver (and not an older version installed automatically by Win98.
Check also the load of the CPU when idle.  If you get a reading close to full load then there might be an IRQ conflict, or some driver not correctly installed.
If unsuccessful, you can backup your Win98 using Norton Ghost on another drive, then format the system partition and clean install Win98, providing the right drivers. This will only take you about 40 min and you can see if a clean install solves the problem. If not, you can have your system back the way it was in just a few minutes.

According to your G5 specification the ATI Radeon 9800 XT with 256MB of DDR SDRAM will work.
+(Notice that there are few models of 9800 i.e.: 9800 64MB, 9800 128MB, 9800 Pro Mac Edition, and some of them are for the older computers)+
But the fastest card for your computer is Nvidia 6800 Ultra DDL or ATI X800XT.
