Agp Fastwrites. Should it be turned off?

Plz Answer to thread name!?

I mainly base this choice on whether my rig can run it effectively or not...I do extensive testing using 3DMark03/04/05 with it enabled and disabled...usually I end up getting better results when enabled IF the system stays stable...
Some BSOD issues are caused by this being enabled as the drivers can have timing issues between the Video card and MB...it really depends on what you're running...
PLEASE NOTE that I base this off of what I've seen in past hardware only being that I DO NOT have hardware of this type to test with...but generally things shouldn't have changed all that much (famous last words eh? *chuckles*) but in all reality you should do your own testing with your rig and see how it performs...this setting is a plus to you in most cases...

    Hi,
This would be largely down to personal choice.  I would turn it off - why waste electricity on something you're not using

  • Should DHCP be turned off on DSL Modem?

I have an AEBS (5th gen) and an  Airport Express in a roaming configuration (connected by ethernet cabling) as directed by Apple's article HT4260.   An Actiontec GT701-WG is my DSL modem with the wireless turned off.  I assumed DHCP should've been turned on on the Actiontec because this function was being performed by the AEBS.  However, after a day the AEBS wouldn't connect to the internet so I turned DHCP "on" on the Actiontec and AEBS now connects.  My fear is this will cause problems down the road (two devices performing DHCP).
Thanks for the help.  I'm not tech savy and would like to finish the setup properly.
    Jeff

In a roaming network, you would want the router directly connected to the Internet to have both NAT & DHCP enabled ... even if you want its wireless disabled. All other routers downstream of this router should be in bridge mode (NAT & DHCP disabled). If you haven't seen it already, you may want to use this Apple Support article as a reference.

  • Should I be turning off my macbook at night or putting it to sleep?

I just got it and my last HP laptop was horribblee the battery life was so short. I want to keep this running as good as possible and keep the battery life good and not mess up this laptop too. I use it everyday and I keep it plugged in mostly but is it safer to turn it off at night or just put it to sleep?

    Sleep.

  • Should I turn off iTunes synch when I use iCloud to synch?

I have been using iTunes to sync my iPhone  contacts and calendar to Outlook on my old Windows PC.  Now I've replaced the PC with a MacBook and have turned on iCloud on both my iPhone and Mac.  When I sync with iTunes now, I notice some calendar events are getting duplicated.  Is the best practice to just stop using iTunes and let iCloud handle all synching?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
iTunes synching should have been turned off when you started iCloud. Yes turn it off for appropriate services to avoid duplication.

  • Turn off grid display at startup?

Apple Motion 5.1. Is there any way to have the grid turned off when the app starts? It never used to default to "on", but now it always does. Drives me crazy.
    Dan

I agree with everything you said. But the operative word is in your last sentence: "should". The grid should indeed remain turned off. Unfortunately, it doesn't.
    Here's my workflow:
    1) Start Motion.
    2) Create a new project (or open an existing one).
    3) The grid is on.
    4) Turn off Grid.
    5) Stop Motion.
    6) Repeat steps 1-2.
    7) Unfortunately, repeat step 3 and 4.
Thanks for the keystroke shortcut. I hadn't thought about using that, and it will save time.

  • Bridging VS turning off existing wireless

First off I'm still trying to figure all this out. I do not understand most of the "lingo" thrown around this forum. So with that said...I've read several places that if I have a current wireless/modem router combo (see below) ya just have to set-up to "bridge" the TC. Correct? But is the TC then handling the wireless transmission or is the current wireless still being used? I obviously don't know what bridge means or does.
Or should I just turn off the current wireless being handled by the Verizon router/modem? Any advise is appreciated.
Current hardware is the Verizon supplied Actiontec GT704WG

If you have a modem/router already setup and you want to add a Time Capsule, you would use the AirPort Utility application to configure the Time Capsule. The Connection Sharing setting for the TC would be set to "Off(Bridge Mode)" in this case. You would connect an ethernet cable from one of the LAN ports on your Verizon to the WAN port on your TC.
The reason for this is that you can only have one router in charge of IP addresses (known as DHCP) on the network. If you place another router behind the first modem/router, the second must be set up in Bridge Mode to allow the first to remain in charge of DHCP. Bridge mode simply means that the TC is receiving its network instructions from the other router. Otherwise, IP address conflicts will prevent proper operation on your network.
If you configure the TC to "create a wireless network", then it will do so. If your Verizon is also creating a wireless network, you will have two wireless networks. You could choose to turn one off if you wanted to, or use one network for slower devices and the other for faster devices.

  • Should I turn off my Mac Pro when not in use or leave it running?

I have been told I should never turn off my computer by some people, and others say that I should always turn it off when not in use!  I use my Mac Pro primarily for music recording/editing in my home studio or word processing.  Now that I have an iPad I use that for web browsing, email, FBing, etc. and I find myself on my Mac Pro a lot less.  I get the basis behind both trains of thought; those who leave it on feel always stopping and starting up puts unnecessary wear on the moving disks, and those who shut down think if the parts are always moving they are bound to wear out faster.  I am not as concerned with conserving power as I am with keeping my machine safe!  If you have any information on this topic I would love to hear it. Thanks!

Providing you have a robust firewal and are not worried as a result about being hacked then leave it turned on and allow it to sleep. Make sure you allow the screen to sleep as well a that is the item that is more prone to damage by being left on all the time.
I never turn my machine off, never have with any of my Macs ever since my first one back in 1979-ish and have never suffered any adverse affects. Today, the power drain is so small when allowed to sleep that I doubt they would offend even the ardent 'turn off everything and pull out the plug to save the planet' person.
If you have an iPad or iPod synced with the Mac for email and iCal and address Book etc. then if you leave it on it should be up to date as soon as you return home, mine is anyway. With iCloud coming out very soon that may come into play even more so with all its advance pushing etc. Just a thought.
One advantage in leaving the machine on (sleep) is that you can access it from anywhere in the world should the need arise with the appropriate settings, which you can't if you turn it off.
    Leave it on.

  • I accidentally dropped macbook air that was in a book bag. The keyboard is working because I can see the light but the screen is black and it won't turn off. How should I fix this? Please Help ME!!

I accidentally dropped my friend's macbook air that was in a book bag. The keyboard is working because I can see the light but the screen is black and it won't turn off. How should I fix this? Please Help ME!!
I tried to turn it off and it didn't work... and I held on to the shift key too and it still doesn't work..
    Please help me..

Accidental damage is not covered under Apple warranty.  And it seems there is much accidental damage.  Only a Genius Bar tech looking at it can tell how much it will cost to repair.
Cost to repair will be high, I suspect (though Genius Bar will confirm/deny.
There is no gentle way to say this sir/ma'am ... someone will need to pay for your friend's MBA repairs.

  • TS3992 Altho' my 4S iPhone is connected to Wi-fi & I have a correct Apple/icloud ID and password, I keep getting the message "icloud backup Failed. Turn off airplane mode, or use Wi-Fi to enable iCloud backup." Should I delete my account, setting up a new

I cannot activate my iCloud backup of my 4S iPhone, even though I have definitely deactivated Airplane mode, and am connected to Wi-Fi.  I also have a correct Apple/iCloud ID and password.
Should I delete my iCloud account and set up a new one??
Please give me some assistance with this problem!
    Sincerely, Brianrit

To unfreeze it, reset it by holding the power and home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo, then release.
To troubleshoot your problem with backing up to iCloud, this may be caused by a corrupt existing backup that needs to be deleted, or by data on your iPad that is preventing the backup from succeeding.  To troubleshoot these, try deleting your last iCloud backup (if you have one) by turning off iCloud Backup in Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup, then tap Manage Storage, swipe across your backup and tap Delete, then go back and turn iCloud Backup back on and try backing up again.
If it still won't back up, you may have an app that is preventing the backup from succeeding.  To locate which one, go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage, tap the name of your device under Backups, under Backup Options tap Show All Apps, then turn them all to Off (including camera roll) and try backing up again.  If it succeeds, then the camera roll and/or one of your apps is preventing the backup and you'll have to located by process of elimination. Turn the camera roll On and try backing up again.  If it succeeds, turn some of your apps to On and try backing up again.  If it succeeds again, turn some more apps to On then try again; repeat this process until it fails.  Eventually you'll be able to locate the problem app and exclude it from your backup.

  • My iphone 4S only start whit cable plug in and then show battery very low (with red line end) then try to turn on but show searching in operator name command and not connecting and no work properly and when I plug out it turn off!!! what should I do?

My iphone 4S only start whit cable plug in and then show battery very low (with red line end) then try to turn on but show searching in operator name command and not connecting and no work properly and when I plug out it turn off!!! what should I do?

I'm afraid you'll have to get the phone serviced, dropping the phone must have damaged additional parts inside the phone.
But Apple will not service the phone anymore, opening the phone and replacing the battery should only be done by authorized personal, not by users.
You'll have to look for a 3rd party repair shop and see if they can fix this, sorry.

  • IPhone 5 will not be recognized by iTunes or charge while on but when turned off the iPhone will charge just fine but still won't sync with iTunes what should I do?

Was charging my iphone 5 for about an hour or so after charging unplugged and went to playing games phone was at 5% so I grabbed my cable and plugged it into the wall nothing happened tried three different chords and blocks and sockets afterwards I plugged my phone into the computer and it wouldn't charge or sync with iTunes it acted as if it wasn't even plugged in so I shut the phone off and though I'd give It a break and try again later. As I got ready to go to bed I though I'd try to plug it back in and see if anything happened nothing did so I just left it I went to mess with it this morning and come to find out it was at 100% I continued to mess with it and i came to the conclusion that it only charges when turned off. I can't get the phone to reset and would love to restore with iTunes if it would sync with iTunes I don't know what I need to do but really need my problem resolved since its a hassle to have to turn off my iphone in order to get it to charge

Is that a new iPhone? Bring it in to Apple for a replacement.
    But do this first:
hold the Home Button and the Power Button at the same time, keep holding, ignore everything on the screen, keep holding until you see the white Apple logo appear, then let go and let it start up.
It should charge both when on and off, unless you connect throug a hub and there are current eaters also on the hub: connect directly to the usb port.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you boot, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.
