AGPS on Nokia Maps 2 in France (operator SFR)

if using a N95 / N95 8gb with SFR software/simlock in France, it might be that the Maps A-GPS function isn't working properly.
This is with the illymithics subscription, but also others.
access point Vodafone Live seems to be blocked...
but, here's a simple (and on the illymithics subscription free!) workaround:
Go to: Menu – Outils – Paramètres – Général – Positionnement – Serveur positionnement
GPS assisté : this should be activated
THen go to: Menu – Outils – Paramètres – Général – Positionnement – Serveur positionnement
Point d’accès : Vodafone Live
Adresse du serveur : geoloc1.sfr.fr
(this replaces the original nokia server supl.nokia.com)

The only times you absolutely need to allow network usage is when updating licences etc., for general navigation you can swtich off network access.
I have my phone set to ask each time I open maps whether to allow network usage so that I can make the decision based on what I intend doing with Maps:
Options>Tools>Settings>Internet>Go online at startup>Always ask
I also have the positioning settings set so that only the internal chip is used for positioning; this is not in Maps but in the phone settings themselves:
Menu>Tools>Settings>General>Positioning>Positioning methods then ensure that Bluetooth GPS, Assisted GPS and Network based are switched off.

  • Operator Costs "nokia.maps.....€0,04"

Yesterday I've installed the new version of Ovi Maps (3.03) and everything worked well. I downloaded two navigation voices via w-lan and created an Ovi Account (mail & phone number required). Today I've checked my operator-costs online and saw more than 10 times the charge of €0,04 form "nokia.maps".
I live in Austria and have "Orange" as my mobile phone operator. Does any body else have the same occurrences at their cost sheet??
    Greetings,
    Michael

    Is AGPS Enabled
If it is then every so often Maps will go online, transmit and recieve a few KB in order to help with the positioning
    Suggestions
    1) Buy a data plan
    2) Turn AGPS off
    3) In Maps Turn Go Online at startup to something other than yes

  • N97 Nokia Map

    Hi guys,
Anyone know the application name list in the Installed Application:
(Setting --> Application MGR --> Installed apps.)
    Nokia Map (7MB)
I uninstalled this application call Nokia Map and I free 7MB from the C.
But my MAP icon still found in the application menu and the MAP is still working fine.
Ohhhh dear, what had I done ?
    I also don't know ........
This morning I notice the latest update of OVI MAP (9MB).
After I download the update from OVI and installed, the Nokia Map is appear in the Installed apps. list again with 7MB. shhhhhh
** the goal is to free more memory of my N97, I might uninstall all the application until the phone is NO MORE MEMORY FULL issue.
    Best regards
    Anderson

Despite the phone being short of RAM you DO need about 20 meg free on C for the phone to run reasonably quickley, there are 100's of threads advising on this, Opera Mini is NOT a memory hog (although Opera Mobile is) there is no need for an anti virus on a symbian phone it is simply a waste of space and resources. Do a search on the forum for optimising memory you will get lots of advice.

    Hi there
Since Ive got my phone, Nokia Maps has never worked. My screen currently sits on green, and with the logo above the Exit button flashing three orange lights... it just doesnt seem to connect

    hi there
i had problems with the gps on my n95 when i first got it heres some things to remember
the gps is under the keypad please make sure its allways open when using it for best signal
its hard to get a lock on in some indoor areas (well alot or indoor areas)
what firmware do you have?? try installing the latest one
nokia maps didnt work very well with the internal gps i left my phone outside in my car for 15 mins with no lock on to signal i was very dissapointed but i tryed garmin mobile xt and it picked up signal very very quickly id say within 45 seconds max probably much less ive heard nokia maps v1.2 is out now and apparently it works alot better then the 1st version so it might be worth updating the maps software here http://europe.nokia.com/A4509291
another thing to do is to make sure assisted gps is on (agps)to do this go into main menu -- tools -- connectivity--gps data--options--posistion settings--then make sure they are all ticked apart from bluetooth gps--
    hope that helps mate
    so to sumarise
    update nokia maps here http://europe.nokia.com/A4509291
or try garmin mobile xt or route 66 both work with the internal gps
then make sure agps is switched on via the settings i mentioned above
then go outside and open phone and load software ie nokia maps (updated version) see if this works any better mate

  • Getting Nokia Maps without Map Loader

I just upgraded to the latest version of Nokia Maps, but when I ran it it said it needed to delete my old maps as they were incompatible. I did that, and then found that Map Installer won't run on my Mac as we have got operating system Tiger 10.4 not Leopard. There were no warnings.
Is there another way to get the maps apart from using mobile download time ? I once found a website that allowed you to get the maps manually and copy them to the phone, but can't find it anywhere. I do have Nokia Multimedia Transfer

Because the old maps have been deleted, I now have no navigation at all. If I run the new Ovi Maps 3.03 I see the GPS fixes, but there is no map underlying it. There seems to be no way to download a map even using data charges.
I have broadband but can't find any way to get at the map files directly, unless the previously mentioned site gets updated.
There seems to be no way I can get back my old maps, or the new ones.
Does anyone know how I can get the UK map directly from the phone, without using a computer ?

  • Using Maps in France

I am going to France on holiday and hiring a car over there and would like to use Maps on my N95 as a Sat Nav. Can someone please give me some pointers on:
    1. How can I check that I have French maps loaded
    2. Do I need to set up anything in advance (I have not used the system as a Sat Nav in UK as I have one in my car)
    3. Is it likely to be expensive to do it?
    Thanks

    Hi jcaswell
I am assuming that your WLAN is your access point whilst you experiment here, if whilst in Nokia Maps you hold down the "#" to zoom out, move your cursor across to France and see whether or not kb meter above the satellite reception icon needs to download any map detail.
As previously mentioned provided that in Options > Tools > Settings > Internet - Go online at start-up is set to "No" then there would be no surprises in store due to roaming cost of GPRS data download costs. You don't need an active network connection for "Voice navigation" to work if that answers your question, although you would not be able to use "search" facility for information around destination without one.

  • N97 MINI V12 Backup error with Nokia Maps Beta 3.0...

After installation nokia maps 3.06 beta on my fresh hardware reset n97 mini v12 is not possible to make backup from mobile to Memory card from File manager. Phone memory on C: is 220 MB.
With nokia maps 3.04 backup is ok, with 3.06 error: Memory full, operation canceled (kind)
I think firmware upgrade from v12 to v20 delay, the reason nokia maps 3.06 is not perfectly integred full functionaly in new firmware.

have the same problem. I think its a bug in SW 12.. , after a hard reset it worked well until I installed some programs (incl. Maps 3.06). Backup only with PC or Ovi Suite able to do.

  • Nokia Maps is a giant step backwards

My relevant background - I live in Los Angeles, owned an HTC HD7S for more than a year and just recently got a Lumia 920. I like everything about my new 920 except vibration noise, and this horrid Nokia Maps app which is forced on us...
    Problems with Nokia Maps:
Lack of integration with the rest of the operating system.
Nokia maps is an island to itself. I click an address from a people hub contact, it opens Windows Phone Maps, not Nokia Maps. I click an address from a Bing search which has a dedicated hardware button, and it opens Windows Phone Maps, not Nokia Maps. I click an address in an email, you guessed it, it opens Windows Phone maps.
Searching in Nokia Maps has terrible results
I tried 3 searches today during the course of my day using Nokia Maps. Si Laa is a Thai restaurant I wanted to try a few miles from my house with an obviously unique name. The results I get are for Joyce Cafe, something in Germany and Slovenia. Next I try UPS in hopes it will find the company owned UPS Customer Center a quarter mile from my house. It doesn't find it at all, but does find alot of ups stores that are further away. Nokia Maps choked on another restaurant in Beverly Hills I tried to find. My wife's iPhone 4s had no problems with any of these.
Local surface street traffic info is missing
On the Lumia 920, I don't get any surface street traffic info. I do see traffic info for highways and freeways. I used to get local surface street traffic on my old HD7S Windows Map. Windows Phone Maps shows some sporadic street traffic data but is not quite right either. I called Nokia about it, the level 1 techie tells me I'm supposed to have local street traffic but has no further explanation and has escalated to level 2...
Nokia removed the Windows Phone Maps.
As shown in the first point above, Windows maps is still clearly on the phone, but Nokia removed the tile for it from the app list. There doesn't seem to be a way to directly open Windows maps. This would be fine except that Nokia maps, which is supposed to be the replacement, is worse than Windows Phone maps in so many ways.
There isn't a single reason to use Nokia Maps over Windows Phone Maps.
The only reason I use it is because Nokia has seen fit to make Windows Phone Maps hard to start by removing it from the apps list.
Nokia should leave both map apps available and in the apps list.
If Nokia Maps is the superior product, people will use it. Right now I'd say Windows Phone maps is superior in every way and that's a shame for Nokia who is supposed to be a mapping leader...

Hi - Do you have latest versions? As mine works fine see below.
I can select a contacts address, see it on the map, then request directions and then swith to drive each step with one tap of an option or icon

I needed to find a vet the other day. Did a seaarch and then onto drive easily. Same works using Nokia City Lens. select a place and then walk or drive.

  • Buyers of Nokia Mapping Software please read

OpenBIT LTD . This is the company in charge of charging your account when you purchace the routing function for Nokias Map Service.
If you have read my blog wardy.vox.com then you know I have been charged three times for one activation. I have now sent three emails to the support desk of this company and have yet had no replies . Not even a confirmation!!!
If you go to their site Openbit Ltd they only have a fax number so you cannot call them !! Grrrr , No help desk then so it's pure Email or Fax .
This is terrible support and I intend to let the world know. My Visa company are looking into the over charging for me so I wont worry on that score but **bleep** are Openbit up to. If I was in league with Nokia and other companies to take care of payment I would ensure that my customer support was up to the task . No call centre is a no no if you are not going to respond to Emails .
FAX , Oh my god how dated is that !!! I bet the poor thing is constantly engaged LOL
Take head buyers of the licence if a hickup hapens during the proceedure for Licence don't expect any support or help from OPENBIT to get your money back as they seem not to give a monkeys. Purchace through VISA at least you are covered that way.

    Cheers Wardy.

Hi. I have serious concerns regarding openbit licence manager. Through no fault of my own, I am on my third N95 handset in just over a week. The first two handsets were faulty and were exchanged.
Problem 1. On handset number one I purchased the upgrade for a 3 year licence for Sat Nav. It initially proved impossible to transfer this licence to the second (and now the third handset). O2 Data support technicians at CPW were unable to help as their information from Nokia is lacking to say the least. Nokia were unable to solve the issue and 'needed to escalate the query' to Smart2Go. I had never heard of Smart2Go until this point. I was told this could take a week to get a response. So, I had purchased a product that I could not use.
I then discovered that Openbit.com provide the licence manager software to Nokia. I emailed the CEO and got a response within 10 minutes. He had solved the problem and had the licence code unlocked. Handset 2 was now operable. However I have the same problem with handset 3 and am still awaiting response from the CEO.
Problem 2. On handset 2 I purchased the upgrade for Quickoffice to ensure I could edit and create documents. I upgraded to Quickoffice Premier 4 for 10.50 GBP. The order confirmation gives (as with the sat nav) gives no contact details as to whom you have purchased from other than [email protected]. The upgrade saves to the hard drive of the handset. So, handset 3 has no upgrade and who do I contact?
Secondly, once this purchase has been made, you are then told you need to purchase another licence to 'Activate Editing' for another 10.50 GBP!
NB. Nokia WILL NOT SUPPORT THESE UPGRADES and say they have nothing to do with Quickoffice, despite the basic software being loaded on the N95.
I have raised these issues with Charles Dunstone, CEO of CPW, Arto Lethonen, CEO of Openbit and have yet to discover who is the CEO of Nokia - if anyone knows contact details, please let me know.
Consumers are dropped into a large 'black hole' and I am investigating whether the Distance selling Regulations 2000 are being contravened.
If anyone has had similar problems and/or has any advice to offer, please let me know.
    Thanks
    H.

  • Installing lmx POIs to Nokia maps N8

Hi, been researching this all morning and have found some free lmx POIs for uk campsite locations to download. I followed the instructions for loading, sort of as some of the file paths didnt exist for me, and clicked to open the lmx file wthin the phone but I just get a constant loop asking me to cancel or telling me memory is full. Anyone know where I am going wrong? My phone is N8 and I believe the operating software is s3. I can do this on my Garmin and IGO easily but can't seem to get my head round doing it on Nokia maps. The file name is archies_uk.lmx. Ta very much Steve

Admittedly Symbian S^3 can't handle .lmx in the manner of S60 3rd Ed or S60 5th Ed, but provided not very many entries you should be able to send file to N8 via Bluetooth, where it arrives in "Received files" and be able to open it.
I suspect that perhaps something went wrong in conversion to .lmx format.

  • Upgrade Nokia Maps with Linux

I don't use Windows. Is it possible to install latest version of Nokia Maps 3.0 on my 6210 Navigator with Linux? I mean where can I download sis file? Then I can transfer it on phone via USB or BT and install.
May be I have to buy Windows to upgrade phone software?

    Hi,
The Nokia Maps Updater is currently only compatible with Windows Operating System (XP and Vista). This would be the main method of updating to Maps 3.01.
On some devices (e.g.N97) Maps updates are available via the Software Update application in the Device Menu. It might be worth checking if you have this available. (note that this requires donwloading data over the air, and so to avoid costs it is recommended to connect via WLAN)
The .sis file is not available as a seperate download for Maps 3.01
An alternative is to download the Beta version of Maps 3.03, however please note that Nokia Care line cannot offer support for beta products. If you are interested please check out http://betalabs.nokia.com/ovi-maps
    Kind Regards
