  • Satellite A300D-15B - Switched off and charging issue

    Hi
    I have a Satellite A300D-15B, running Windows 7 32bit, which bought quite recently used. I have encountered a couple of problems which I hope someone can help me with!
    Firstly, the day I got the machine, it switched suddenly, but turned back on immediately and seemed to be ok. Afterwards, 3 weeks later (saturday 2nd July) I was installing some software when I got a virus warning from AGV, within a few moments the machine again turned off suddenly. Unfortuanetly this time it would not turn back on and the charge/AC supply lights would not come on. After doing some research I found that disconnecting the BIOS battery and dissipating the power enabled me to turn the machine on. Is there any known issues which could be causing this?
    Secondly, once I had got the laptop to turn on after the sudden shutdown on staurday, I have found the charger still wont register as being plugged in unless i use the folling procedure.
    1) diconnect the mains fuse cable from the transformer block
    2) remove the battery
    3) plug in the DC jack
    4) reconnect the mains cable to the transformer which causes the mains light on the laptop to turn on.
    5) reconnect the battery
    The laptop then charges normally, I am using it to write this post.
    I have to use this process everytime the machine is unplugged from the the mains or charger, which is irritating and also a worry that there could be big problems on the horizon.
    Any help would be hugely appreciated.
    cheers
    John

    Hi
    I upgraded it to 7, the first time it shut down was the first time it was switched on after the recovery disc had been used. Could that be an out of date driver on original settings? Then upgrading to 7 giving similar problems?
    I upgraded to 7 not a fresh install, which I never usually do.
    The charger is a genuine unit not a 3rd party, I won't use them as I've had issues in the past. I'm just concerned it's a mainboard problem given the shutdown and subsequent strange charging behaviour. Do these have EEPROM's in the chargers and maybe clearing the CMOS has caused a recognition problem?
    Cheers
    J

  • My Macbook is running really slow - help (Etrecheck report included)

    I have a Macbook Pro, and it runs insanely slow.  Trying to do something simple like surfing the net and listening to Itunes generally results in the spinning wheel coming up after every clicked link.  Excel will cause a 45 second spinning wheel when doing something simple like =2+2.  I don't use this machine for anything too complicated and I'm just finding it runs extraordinarily slow.  Any advice is welcome.

    It is a long holiday weekend for many helpers here so responses will be slower---happens every major holiday. Lots of people traveling and not checking in.
    Your first major problem is that you have AVG anti-virus installed. Such pieces of dreck do not offer enough protection to justify the performance problems they cause.
    If you no longer use a Blackberry device, uninstall the many support files for it that are eating resources.

    Try a restart every once in a while. That clears out a lot of crud that builds up.
    The RAM usage results suggests that more RAM might help with your usage patterns. See how the computer behaves after restarting and evicting AGV, then we can judge whether you need more RAM. Your MBP can handle up to 16GB RAM and installation is a 10-15 minute job you can do at home.

  • How to use  two monitors with my Mac mini

    Hello,
    I have a Mac mini and using a 20" Samsung Monitor with it which works well. I also have my 40" LCD Samsung telly, set up next to it. Whenever i watch a DVD using my Mac i have to swap over the cables. Is there a way of getting the right cables etc and making it so i would be able to watch a dvd on the 40" and still use the 20" surfing the net etc. I had a similar set up with my old windows laptop, but cant seem to work out how do it with the mac. Both monitors have modern sockets, the 40in has HDMI/DVI IN and AGV, the 20" has AGV and HDCP/DVI IN. Many thanks.

    To the best of my knowledge there is no way to use dual displays on the Mini. You may be able to find some adapter that will allow you to physically connect two displays, but they will be mirrored, not spanned.
    To do what you describe would take spanning, which the Mini is not capable of doing. Unless something has changed recently,..

  • Problem with FileItem of File Upload?

    Hi Everybody,
    I wrote a mail program using JSP as the front end and Servlet at the backend and inorder to upload the files from the client machine to the server machine i used the FileItem and DiskFileUpload interfaces...
    But i am getting a problem ... if i use FileItem i cant use the "req (of type HttpServletRequest)" related methods and even if i use they will return null.
    Is there any chance that i can use both FileItem and Request methods in the same servlet?
    Is there any chance that i can find out the Client Machine IP Address using FileItem?
    Thanks in advance

  • I was just given a Mid 2009 MacBook Pro. It does not have a system on it.

    I have my original disks from my early 2009 MacBook Pro. When I try to use the OS Install disk to install 10.5, which is what the early MacBook came with, it won't boot the computer. I have the upgrade to 10.6.3, but it will not work either, since it is only an upgrade.
    I have 10.6.8 backed up to an external disk, but I want to have a different administrator name so we don't get confused. I have used the backup to at least get the mid 2009 working. I am unable to do an Erase and Install, which is what I want to do, even though there is nothing there.
    Here is the Hardware Overview from the mid 2009:

    Is there any fix? Are the earlier, early 2009 disks incompatible with the mid 2009? Am I stuck with having the same Administrator for two computers? Does anyone have any suggestions?
    There are compelling reasons that I don't want to upgrade past 10.6. I won't be able to get at MOST of my data because of Apple no longer supporting Rosetta. I have two other computers running Mountain Lion and Mavericks, but want to keep 10.6.8 on the MacBook Pros early and mid 2009.

    i got stopped at 7th step whre its asking me password ...
    when i agve it compeleted 50% then got disconnected
    i did all above settings which are mentioned above , but still did not got success . plz help me its an urgent
    Anajli

    Hi Anjali,
    Generally it takes more than half an hour to  Import CR Content from Server.
    If this fails, there should be network connectivity failure or some connectivity issue. I dont think there is any problem with portal or SLD.
    As you say >>i got stopped at 7th step whre its asking me password ...
    This clearly indicates there is a connectivity failure that asks for the password. Check whether you have set any time out option.
    Regards,
    venkat.

  • How to upload html files using Weblogic Bulkloader

    I hav uploaded image files using bulkloader.
    however with html files am facing a prob.
    only the file structure gets created but there is no html file present inside.
    in
    Filename.html.md.properties i agv the followin
    nodeType=html
    lifecyclestatus=2
    File=C:\ContentRepository\a.html
    encoding=UTF-8
    charset=us-ascii
    mimeType = text/html
    shud i add some more properties...

    You have to do this your self by either (as vinod said) using a different component (not present in adf) or implementing this:
    1) allow the user to select multiple filenames (somehow)
    2) zip them together
    3) upload the zip
    4) unpack the zip on the server
    5) work with the files

    Hi,
    Yes I did use the wizard,
    I agve it the package.proc name for query.
    it pulled up the field delivery ID,
    Hit finish, because I do not need update/delete/inserts.
    the query data source columns and arguments was defaulted correctly.
    THe QUERY-PROCEDURE was built by default.
    It is giving me an error though: wrong number or types of arguments in call to POPULATE_BLOCK..
    DECLARE
    bk_data HSM_WSH_DEL_UTIL.DEL_TBL;
    BEGIN
    hsm_wsh_del_util.do_query(bk_data);
    PLSQL_TABLE.POPULATE_BLOCK(bk_data, 'NEW_DELIVERIES');
    END;

  • Can't update Photoshop to 14.1.1 release

    As per title.
    I tried almost everything. I uninstalled the Creative Cloud updater, and reinstalled. I removed the temp files from the hidden MAC folders.
    But, still I keeping on getting the error message I'm not connected to the internet and, of course, I am.
    In order to verify the proper connection (as well as the firewall setup and things like that), I've tried downloading another software (in this case was the Extended toolkit) and enerything went smoothly with no errors whatsoevere.
    So, looks like it's just the Photoshop update which is not working (error's screen shot attached).
    Any ideas?
    I run on a MBP updated few days ago to the last ML 10.8.5 (could it be the reason?).
    Alessandro.
    P.S.: Right now, I'm connected wireless through the company server/connection, but it hasn't ever been a problem to update softwares.

    Very last news... Bridge CC update notification arrived and there was no problems updating it.
    At this poi I think there is definetely something wrong with my installation.
    I'll remove Photoshop and reinstall it, see if it'll solve it.
    By the way, this is the aamu log:

  • Anti Virus for Leopard.

    Hi I'm looking for some advice with regard to Anti Virus Software on my new iMac. I'm not adverse to paying but if I can get a free ware AV program that would be great. ive here mentioned AGV and Avria, the former seems to be Windows only and the latter only has a freeware (Home) version on Windows. The mac version is 60 days, then you pay... Also are all these and other AV programs all ok on Leopard?
    Many Thanks
    Harry

    Never shutting your Mac down properly (i.e. letting it sleep is NOT shutting it down) will effect your performance more unless you open up a program directly effected by a virus (macros are infamous for clogging up the various Mac MS Office versions).
    There are a few holes known to Firefox, partially because it is one of the most prevalent browsers out there and there are many accessories for it. Safari has fewer security warnings, though there are a few websites (a few very major ones at that) that are optimized for it and will not display properly; if you like Safari, use it primarily and keep another browser (like Firefox) on for situations when you come to a site that won't load correctly in Safari. I should note that I am still on 10.4.11 and use Firefox as it has more features I personally use/like, in addition to regularly running Virex 7.2 with weekly-updated definitions. I do wish AVG would come to Mac though.
    Overall, you don't want to be unprotected just because OS X is only indirectly affected by viruses, nor do you want to be a digital Typhoid Mary and spread infections to other OSes through laziness or complete self-centeredness- and it's not just Windows users which are effected.

  • Questions for experienced users

    For all experienced users, a few observations and questions:
    1) Is it really true that Compressor 2 takes over 24 hours to encode a 15 minutes piece of 1080i HD video from FCE into an H.264? or am I doing something wrong in the settings?
    2) The same piece of video encodes a QT movie in 2 hours but the artifacts make the video look extremely unprofessional (to put it mildly).
    3) It cannot be true that after spending this much money on professional equipment, that I receive results this poor. I see that others have voiced the same frustrations with Compressor 2 and DVDSP4, HD video etc. What I am referring too specifically is poor encoding in Compressor ( the answer "get a different piece of software" is not acceptible) and DVD's that have artifacts that make the results look worse in quality that amature video from several years back,
    this is why I and others depend on sage counsel from more experienced users. so people with condescending or sarcastic pseudo answers need not reply here.
    4) Please recommend a workflow that does not produce artifacts from 1080i HD video, to FCE 3.0.1, to DVDSP4 ( via QT 7 or Compressor 2) using the system speced below.
    5) Please also recommend a workflow of the same for video that can go out on the web or for cell phone content. ( refer to the problems with H.264 with web content, and any info you may have on the 3G content)
    Thanks

    Well, Mikey and PQRTV or whatever really got to the heart of the reason why I placed that line in my first post:
    I got my mac system about a year ago. before I got the system, my cousin the computer genius lovingly teased me because I literally didn't know what a jump drive was. 8 months later, I gave a presentation at the apple store about filmmaking with the mac. my point?
    using the mac system as a (professional) tool does require a new thought process ( coming from the PC windows lower ****). I too look(ed) for quick fixes, but a little bit of time with FCE, DVDSP4, Compressor, etc. teaches U very quickly that things take time and patience and study. having no previous IT or computer background, it was and still is a challenge, but I get it more now.
    in general, just keep in mind that a post may be from someone who 1) might be new to the idea that You have to think a bit differently when trying to execute processes with a mac/professional system, 2) might not have a whole lot of IT experience ( mac makes it really easy to get Your arms in up to Your elbows really quickly), and 3) is after all a human being who is, when they posted, 4)most likely sleep deprived, working on a dead line and stressed at level 11.
    and Yo PD, I thought the weeding video quip was kinda funny but snide. we can at some point "philosofahzize" about what kind of hussle one sometimes has to get into to keep the rent paid while pursuing the real dream.
    And as my man Mikey pointed out ( and I'm sure PDFTV and others will agree), authoring, filmmaking, graph design, music, is all an ART FORM and CRAFT and it takes dedication and perseverence to "master" just ONE aspect, let alone those of us who write, produce, shoot, edit, author, burn, make the soundtrack for, make the poster for and finance our own projects. ( raise a fist and go "yeah" if U feel me on that!)
    so if U are a newbie, KEEP THAT IN MIND when U are about to pound Your head or the computer or both against the wall becuase it doesn't happen the first time You try.
    ANYWHOOOO
    I exported the 1080i HD video ( 10 minutes long) from FCE 3.0.1 compression type 1080i60, current frame rate, key frames every 24 frames ( we shot with that cineframe funtion on the camera) and checked frame reordering. data rate automatic and NOT prepared for web streaming. sound: uncompressed 48kHz ( I wanted to take it into DVDSP4) I got a GREAT LOOKING but rather large (1.45 GB) QT movie . my subtitles at the bottom made in FCE looked a bit fuzzy at full screen size, but the Live Type looked GREAT. NO ARTIFACTS in any size. BUT UNFORTUNATELY, DVDSP4 agve me an "imcompatable asset" message when I tried to import it. ( and by the way, it took 2hrs and 10 min to process to QT movie)
    SOOOOO.....
    From FCE I exported the file to compressor 2, setting: the 90 minute best quality 16:9 MPEG 2 6.2 mbps 2 pass setting. this bad boy LOOKS GREAT and took a whopping 10 HOURS to compress. but my sound file didn't come out (?) so I exported QT movie sound only from FCE and this took 10 seconds. brought them into DVDSP4 and got myself a pretty kick a@@ looking widescreen SD video.
    oh, my DVSP4 settings? 4:3 letter box, encode on import ( although since it was already an MPEG2 it was no sweat) with 6.0 mbps min and 7.5 max.
    I'll keep in touch on other posts with more experiences. Thanks for the help!
    and with this post concider the question offically, answered!
