Ahh! My power adapter has just died!

It was plugged into a powerboard, I unplugged it to move to another room, plugged inot another powerpoint and it's now not working on any powerpoint. No light, no lights on the battery, no symbol, nothing...
Any tricks? I can't afford a new powerpack! I've only got about an hour and a half left of power...

Hooray! It's ok, it's working again. I just unplugged the cord from the actual adapter, blew into the socket and tried again. Must have been some dust in there or soemthing!

  • POWER ADAPTER HAS JUST CAUGHT FIRE!!!

While sitting using my 15' powerbook g4 i noticed a strange burning smell. At closing the screen i realized what it was, the power adapter had caught fire at the part where the cable enters the brick.
This could have been disastrous if i wasn't here when it happened. The adapter hasn't moved much in the 3 years I've had it, only 3 times i think so it couldn't be ware and tare.
Has anyone else come across this problem and have you had any luck getting a replacement from Apple? Typically my apple care has just ran out 2 weeks ago!!
    Owb

Same problem here, a few weeks ago. There was a burning smell, then smoke from the joint between the cable and the cable head (with the green/orange light on it). Called Apple, and the chap i got on the phone, when asked, stated no, they don't have any policies on their products catching fire once the 1 year warranty has passed. I rang again and got another chap who seemed a little less sure of himself, so I went at him a bit down the phone, and managed to get an engineer in Sweden?? Eventually they offered to replace the cable.
I guess if your prepared for the phone bills, just keep ringing and shouting until one of the goons on the other end will do something about it.

  • X230 has just died!

Hi I'm a x230 i5 w7 32bit owner and my one has just died! I love this laptop and its been faultless until last night.
I'm no computer boffin so please play nicley....
Here is what happend... the norton virus software got in a loop so when I press no as I didnt want to install unknown software it kept coming back. I swtiched user and it wasnt affecting the other acount, but go back into the admin acount I could get it out the loop until I press ok... install.... then everything closed and that was that. Doh
So when power on it comes up with the Lenovo screen then black screen with a small flashing curser in the corner. I cant start in safe mode with f8, I can hit f1 and f12 to choose boot options.
I have downloaded and writen a recovery (of the microsoft site) disk onto a usb with no luck, it starts then i can choose to boot from usb, somthings download but then it crashes at the end of the run comand instal line...
I then tryed removing the solid stated hard drive, that seemed to make things worse and seemed the optons when f1 is pressed are gone.
So I'm thinking maybe the optical hard drive is dead? from what was a virus of some sort? I dont know and I have no idea what my next step would be.
    Thanks!

My mid-2009 MacBook Pro has just died via a painful (for me) hard drive failure. I backed up a good percentage of files recently but not enough to keep me happy.  I need to access the dead drive on the MBP via a 2008 iMac. Best options?
I have ordered a 800 firewire to 800 firewire cable and am hoping to use the target mode option to copy files from the MBP.
    Is this possible?
    Hope so!
Any advice and or help would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks,

    Thanks Ogelthorpe.
Just bought an enclosure to try that also.
Hoping the MBP isn't really dead but just feigning death
    Fingers crossed.

  • My mac pro's power adapter has something wrong, sometime can work, sometime dosen't, can you fix it?

my mac pro's power adapter has something wrong, sometime can work, sometime dosen't, can you fix it? i brought this mac pro last year.

No, we can't fix it. Probably live half the world away from you and don't have telephatic powers....
But you can try yourself. First, make sure the connector is absolutely clean. The gold pins on the cable end should all move freely and fully extend out. The gold pads on the Mac connector should be spotlessly clean, and the area around them, where the metal ring on the cable goes in, should be free of any debris that may impede full seating and contact.
Next, the cable on the power brick should be in good condition, without kinking or fraying. If there is any damage, only solution is replacement, it is not serviceable.
Lastly, make sure the battery is ok. Go to the About This Mac item in the Apple menu, do More Info... / System Report... and select Power on the left column. In the Battery Information, Health section, make sure the Condition is Normal. Else, will need replacement.

  • PC has just died, so have ordered an mbp. Will word transfer, or do I have to buy word for Mac????

    Hi.
    My PC has finally died.......
    Excitingly, have ordered a MBP.
My question is, will word documents transfer, or do I need to buy word for windows.
Nothing serious, just letters, invoices etc.
    THANK YOU.

If you're accustomed to working with MS Office, you can purchase Office for Mac 2011 and your documents will open fine - albeit if different fonts were used there may be some reflow problems.
Before buying Office for Mac, you may want to try out two free alternatives - LibreOffice or OpenOffice. I don't use them as I use Office for Mac but either should be able to open your Word documents.

  • My iPhone 3GS has just died

I was listening to music on the iPod app when the phone just died. It had around 80% of battery as well so it's not that. I've tried resetting (holding down home and on/off button) but no luck. Any suggestions?

The iOs 5.1 is a huge file that needs to be dowloaded when updating/restoring, your phone hasnt completed the update so its now in recovery mode. Look on the left of itunes, it should say downloads under the store section with a spinning wheel, click that and youll see the update file with a time remaining, wait for that download to finish then try the restore again  and it should work

  • Blackberry Z10 has just died!

My Z10 phone just decided to die yesterday. I can't get it to switch on. The screen is completely blank. The only sign of life is that the red light comes on for a short period of time after I connect to my PC.
However, my PC does not pick up the phone - it's as if it is just not there. I desperately need access as my calendar is on this phone. Can anyone help, please?

It has for others I've helped... not all but many.
So, rather than a battery pull, the next time hold down the up and down volume key about 30 seconds. What happens?
Next time press the upper edge power button for 20-30 seconds... anything?
And next, press ALL three: Volume up and down, and the top edge power key about 20-30 seconds.. anything?
On each of these, do it while connected to the OEM wall outlet charger.

  • My BB has just Died - Please Help.. what can I do

I have a blackberry curve 8520, for no reason it died.
    I tried to turn back on but nothing;
I swapped over to another battery - I was able to get a red light and the blackberry screen flashed up but then disappeared then reappeared as if it was loading and then died.
I tried again with the power cable plugged in and the new charge battery and nothing.
The phone has not been dropped, in water, electric shocked
I m totally amazed, its 8 months old brought as a pay as you go.
Is there anyway I can get this fixed or what could be the problem

  • Satellite Pro P300 has just died on me

    Hi,
Yesterday my Satellite Pro P300 (PSPC1E) simply died on me...no battery charging lights nothing. Nothing happens when I press the ON button it is DEAD.
The battery was ok last time used, the adapter is still giving me nearly 20volts.
I took the laptop apart to check the DC in connector, thats ok.
I assume after some research its a motherboard fault. Typically my warranty ran out 2 months ago!!
Cost of a new replacement motherboard so far quoted is 180, not too eager to spend that as I have a tax bill to pay at the end of this month!
Any ideas to what the problem could be?
I have found a mobo on eBay which is a p300-1a8 going for a song but would that be compatible?
What are all the variations in the motherboards?
Would any other motherboard be compatible?
Any ideas, suggestions would be much appreciated and I thank anyone in advance for any ideas.
    Cheers
    Steve

    Yes and no.
You can also imagine that different P300 notebooks have also different ports. Some of them have HDMI some probably not. There is also the difference.
Different ports, different processor or different graphic card. Maybe some models don't have even webcam and missing controller on motherboard.
So, if you want to have identical hardware configuration please be sure you use motherboard with the same model number.

  • Heartbroken, my 3 week old imac 21.5 i3 has just died!! Help anyone

Tonight whilst working in Logic 8 my 3 week old imac i3 21.5 just powered off instantly. Not a proper shut down, just like someone flicked of the power supply. Now there is no life at all. I have swapped power cables and and plug sockets, tried the holding in the power button reset. There is no indication of any power from the imac. Totaly dead. Any suggections before I call Apple on Monday morning?

First thing to do, is plug it in, and then move the system to the edge of the desk/table/whatever. Tilt it up as far as you can. Then look in the little grille on the bottom, and see if you can find any green lights. I believe on the 21" model they should be on the right side, but check both sides. They can be a little difficult to find, even if you know what you're looking for. They're usually pretty close to the little cover for the RAM slots, and sometimes you have to look at just the right angle because of the nature of the holes in the grille.
If you see one light, that means that the PSU is almost certainly good. You're getting "trickle" power. Now, while still looking at that green light, press the power button, and see if you see a second light turn on. If not, then you're not getting communication between the PSU and logic board, and it's PROBABLY the logic board that went out, though these issues can be difficult to pin down. Sometimes everything points to the PSU but it's really the logic board, other times it's the other way around.
Either way, you're better off taking it somewhere than calling, unless you call just to set up an appointment somewhere. Since the SMC reset didn't do it, it's a hardware failure and they're going to have to swap something out.
The good news, however, is that the data on your drive is almost certainly still there, and when you get the system back you'll be able to pick up right where you left off.

  • Does this mean my power adapter is dead?

Last night, out of nowhere, suddenly it seems like my power adapter has died. But I'm not totally sure. I have read about the unreliability of these adapters and the complaints about them in the Apple Store.
Before I rush to buy a new one, can anyone tell me if it's really dead?
When I plug it in, the computer recognizes it. The menu bar says "Calculating" as if it is trying to figure out how much time it will take to charge my battery. But that's all it says. The battery percentage has been draining. (I am going to move important things to a different computer in a few minutes.) Neither the green light nor the orange light on the plug is lit.
I tried everything I could think of including a PMU reset, adding the "extension cord" thing (instead of using the plug that has movable prongs), and switching to a different power outlet. I can't think of anything that would have killed my adapter.
So is this thing really broken or is it something with my computer? I have the 45W charger. I need help fast before I don't have any power left to do any troubleshooting. It looks like I might have to get a new charger, rush delivery! Please help if you can, thanks.
Here is what system profiler says:
    Battery Information:
    Battery Installed: Yes
    First low level warning: No
    Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 4101
    Remaining Capacity (mAh): 3247
    Amperage (mA): 0
    Voltage (mV): 16070
    Cycle Count: 122
AC adapter cannot charge battery: Yes
    AC Charger Information:
    AC Charger (Watts): 0
    Connected: Yes
    Charging: No

WHEW... It WAS my computer, and a very minor problem.
I had a local Mac guru bring another power adapter over to my house and it worked. However, it became intermittent when wiggling the plug. So I plugged my charger back in and discovered that it works when I push down lightly on it. I had tried twisting it before and pushing a little, but not quite the same way.
The problem then is with the computer itself... the connection is just a tiny bit loose. The computer has been carried around in a protective backpack and moved around a lot for a few years so it doesn't surprise me, plus I did pull on the cord sideways once.
I'll have to see about getting the computer opened up to fix the connection. But for now, whoo hoo... I have charge!!! Thanks.

  • Power Adapter Compatibility

I own a 60gb 4th generation iPod photo that came with a usb power brick in the box. The hard drive died on it last week and I recently ordered a 2nd gen iPod nano as a temporary replacement until new hard drive based iPods come out.
It looks like the newer iPods no longer come with power adapters in the box and that they are now sold separately for $30 (lame - if you ask me that should come in the box).
Judging from the pictures of the new power adapters on the apple online store (http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=D8E 8F6B&nplm=MA592LL%2FA) , it is not quite the same as the one that came with my 4g iPod although I would assume both would be using the same USB cable. They are different in that the new one looks smaller and the USB port is horizontal not vertical. Mine looks more like the following picture although I have no idea if it's exactly the same: http://ipod.cancomuk.com/images/codes/5/5/9/1/3/rect/55913.jpg
At any rate, can I use my 4g iPod photo usb power adapter with my 2g nano? I don't want to fry my brand new nano by using an incorrect power adapter.
    Thanks.

Since I doubt either of us really truly know how the price of an iPod breaks down this is kind of a pointless argument but I highly doubt Apple is charging us less because the adapter is not in the box.
Selling the power adapter separately just gives them another chance to make a profit on an accessory while increasing the margin on the main product.
While we'll never know the real numbers, with most things like cables and power adapters they can probably make the thing for well under $5 but can mark it up to $30 when sold separately.
While it's probably not all evil... you're probably right that most users either already have a power adapter or don't use it so from Apple's perspective you could make an argument that it makes perfect sense to leave it out because it is probably not needed.
But I still think this is just another revenue stream (higher margins on both iPods + new high margin accessory) for them and not to be confused with some noble effort to save the consumers some cash.

  • Satellite M50-159: What is the part number of the origanal AC power adapter

My power adapter has broken and up until now i have been using a universal adapter but the connection is loose and takes a while for the orange light to turn on.
My question is what is the part number of the original AC adapter that came with this laptop. I have just ordered what i thought was the correct power adapter part number was PA3468E-1AC3 but the connecter did not fit into my laptop even though the toshiba website said this power adapter was compatible.
    Please help
    Alex

    Hi dear friend,
you had the wrong partnumber. What you need is PA3283U2ACA (K000028790) which is the right one. Heres a link where you can check the connector of the AC-adapter:
