AHHH! "move to" command

hi,
been back to mac for a few years now but i still miss my "right click - move to (folder)" command from winxp. did a search for "finder move menu item" and found the solution...for osx 10.5.8. Thus the "AHHH!" in the title. Abracode is available but it uses some kind of shortcut thing that i dont really understand am pretty sure will not give me the simplicity of a "move to" option when i right click. any help for snow leopard would be much appreciated. oh yea, and i know how to move while holding the "apple" key. thanks again.

Create an Automator Service that accepts Files and Folders in Finder and add a Move Finder Items action. Choose a destination for it to start in, and click on Options and set it to show this action when the workflow runs. Or, you could just pick a destination and make multiple default destination actions without setting the option to show the pick destination dialog.

In all my years of using Mac OS X I should not have to ask this, but... Is there a "move to" command that can be used to move files from one location to another without dragging and dropping? Preferably one that does not involve Terminal!

No, there isn't. That's one of the areas where the Windows interface has a useful feature that Mac OS X does not. Though the Windows "move to" can become rather cumbersome when you have a lot of folders, which may be why the Mac OS X designers elected not to include it.

Bridge CS5 Windows not showing folders with "Move to" command?

Hi, folks.
I have a bunch of files on an external, USB-attached drive. When I right-click on an image in Bridge and select the "Move to" command, Bridge only gives me the option of selecting a folder that's on my Desktop (specifically, only my username folder). It doesn't even give me the option of choosing my root diretory.
Has anyone else experienced this? For what it's worth, I'm noticing the same problem with DNG converter (I can't select any folder that isn't my Desktop).
Any help would be much appreciated.

P.S. I recently cleared my Bridge cache, but the problem began before I did this and is still happening. Win 7 64-bit, 12 gigs of RAM, cache settings in Bridge set to maximum.

Your prob might be related to the same issue. Especially because you mentioned DNG converter.
To solve it reduce your desktop items or upgrade to DNG / ACR 6.3 beta.

Move to command unavailable in Adobe Bridge?

What causes this?
The Move To comand is shadowed and unavailable. The Copy To command appears to be available, but does not work. And I am unable to drag files to folders.
I have restarted, purged the caches, restarted again.
Negative effect.

The move to and copy functions worked in other apps; the Batch Rename command was also shadowed and I was unable to rename files/folders manually in Bridge.
Problem seemed to be only in one set of files in several folders.
I could create new folders and drag other files to them and then the functions where available, but not those original files and original folders.
Since could not move, copy, drag or batch rename files, I was unable to place existing files in new folders.
Solution: Move To Trash command was functionnal, so moved all folders to trash, then created new folder on desktop dragged contents of trashed files to new desktop file. Viola: problem solved.

"Move To" command doesn't work if you delay cursor on "Copy To" first

I file messages using the Move To menu. If, by mistake, my cursor delays on Copy To, it will Copy my mail. I can reproduce it.
Wonder if this a bug
I do use, without problems, the Mail Plug in "MailRecent" which Moves or copies mail to recently accessed folders.
This plugin add a "Move to Recent" and Copy to Recent" item to the message menu.
Any ideas welcome?

Problems such as yours are sometimes caused by files that should belong to you but are locked or have wrong permissions. This procedure will check for such files. It makes no changes and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
First, empty the Trash.

Exec a "MV" (move) Linux command from ABAP program using wildcard "*"

I have a problem by using FM "SXPG_COMMAND_EXECUTE", SM49 while i try to move the whole content of a SAP folder into another.
Foders are on the same file system:
source: /tmp/
dest:   /usr/sap/tmp
I made a command in SM69 named ZMOVE:
I put OS: Linux (is case sensitive)
        command: "mv"
        parameters: /tmp/* /usr/sap/tmp
hence the final sentence should be "mv /tmp/* /usr/sap/tmp". I did it directly by using program "rsbdcos0" and works fine.
Now if I try to execute the command ZMOVE from SM49 or using the function module it gives the same error
*mv: cannot stat /tmp/ ': No such file or directory**
I made several tries by changing the parameter section (also using a script on the same directory).
The permissions are ok, so the only problem seems to be the wildcard (*) character.
Any suggestions?

Problem solved.
Forget function modules, SM69 etc. there's an ABAP command in order to perform a SO command.
Here an example:
data: lf_file like rlgrap-filename,
      lf_idx(3) type n,
      cmd(254),
      result(255) occurs 100 with header line.
cmd = 'mv /dir_source/* /dir_dest'.

No New Movie Recording Command

I downloaded the 7.16 Quick Time Player and then upgraded to Quick Time Pro. The registration appeared to be successful, as the Preferences page now shows the user name, key code, and "Quick Time 7 Pro". However, on the File menu, there is no command for New Movie Recording. There's only New Player and New Audio Recording. What am I doing wrong??

First, everyone here is just a user like you. With rare exceptions, Apple employees do not participate in the Discussions. So it's not "our" advertisement.
As to "advertising", nowhere on the QuickTime for Windows site does it ever say that video capture is a feature. If you read the Mac feature list and just presumed that it applied as well to the Windows version, then that was obviously an unwarranted assumption. It's never wise to presume features hold consistent across platforms, as it's rarely the case.
You can ask for a refund, but it's extremely unlikely that you'll get one. Apple's terms of sale clearly state that download software isn't eligible for refunds, and this isn't a case of a feature being promised but not working but rather of mistaken expectations.
Sorry, but you're probably out of luck.

How do I use just 1 click with move tool (command v) to select layer within group?

I'm on Snow Leopard 10.6.8, Photoshop CS3 10.0.
Is there a way to click just once with "command V" to select a layer within a group?
I used to be able to do it, and on my laptop I can do it now (same OS and Photoshop) but the mac I use for my design work won't do it...I have to also right click and select the layer that is highlighted. I have a many multilayered Photoshop document with lots of groups, and it's an extra time consuming step.
Is there some preference I can turn on? Or some other simple keystroke?

Driving me nuts: no path above "Desktop" when choosing file or folder with "Move To" command

Hi all. I can't believe this. I have a folder open in Bridge CC and I want to move files from that folder to a folder on another drive. The target folder does not appear in "Recent Folders", "Favorites" or "Libraries", so I select "Choose File or Folder". Upon doing this a crummy little window appears, the top level of which is "Desktop". Huh? How do I select another drive? So far the only workaround I have found is to first open the target folder in Bridge, then close it again and reselect the source folder, at which point it shows up in "Recent Folders". Please tell me it is I who am stupid and that this cannot be true.

Move To command in Apple's 10.9 Apps

OK, aside from my wanting to strangle whoever thought doing away with Save As was a good idea, can someone tell me if I'm just missing the goal of Move To? Isn't it to move an open file to an existing folder, wherever that folder may be, as long as I have access? Apparently not, if it's more than one folder deep from an item in the sidebar.
I want to move an open TextEdit or Preview file to a new location without leaving the app. I choose Move To..., click on the sidebar icon of where i want it to go (let's say a shared drive on a server). Then I try to open a folder in that shared drive with the intention of putting the file into a SUBfolder of that folder but .. whoops! I can't! I dropped it into the top folder as soon as I choose it. Doesn't this go against a basic assumption of what's supposed to happen when the user tries to traverse folders? I hate trying to use the little triangular subfolder/indent thing. Is there some trick or something I'm missing?

When you want to move the file to a folder that is not displayed on the list provided by "Move to...", select "Other...", which is down at the bottom of the list. Then you should be able to navigate as usual. Are you saying that doesn't work properly?
Also: a quick way to get to the "Move to" thing is to click on the title of the window you are using.

How to Run Operating System Command Before/After Message Processing SAP PI

We are trying to execute multiple commands via "Operating System Command Before/After Message Processing".
When we use single command say for example cp or mv (copy or move) the commands get executed fine.
eg: cp %F /var/opt/data/outbound/Test/Dummy.txt
/this works fine/
when we club commands together or try to redirect the outputs of commands, none of the commands get executed.
eg:
cp %F /var/opt/data/outbound/Test/Dummy.txt ; rm %F
or
wc -l %F > /var/opt/data/outbound/Test/Dummy.txt
Is it possible to execute multiple commands or redirect the output of commands without using a shell script? The PI server we are working on iis hosted on UNIX environment.

instead of semicolon try this
(1) &
command1 & command2
Execute Command1 and then execute Command2
(2) &&
command1 && command2
Runs the command2 only when command1 doesn't Complete successfully
(3) ||
command1 || command2
Runs the second command if the first command had an error
(4) ()
(command1 || command2) || (command3 & command4)
Defines the order in which commands are to be executed

Movie not on apple tv list, but is playable by apple remote (iphone)

Sorry about the crazy title, I don't know how to say this succinctly.
I have just gotten a new apple tv and have synced several movies to it, but still have my entire library on my mac pro streaming to it. There are a couple of movies that show up on itunes under the appletv device, they also show up on my iphone remote AND can be played on the apple tv by the apple remote on my iphone. however, it does not show up in the movies list on my apple tv. I have had a couple of older ripped movies not show up and reencoding them did the trick with the apple tv preset on handbrake, but the tricky one is Wall-E which is the digital copy from the blu-ray. meaning, this one is downloaded from itunes, and is totally legit. It plays on my appletv, but only from my remote on my iphone, I cannot see it or play it from the apple tv directly.
btw, I now see the reencoded movies on apple tv, but I was still able to play them from the remote, before encode...
I have tried syncing it, then unsyncing it then syncing again, no luck. even not syncing it, it doesn't show up....

I think I know what happened, I am not at home to double check, but can someone confirm this? in 2.3 apple added the ability to group movies by labeling them in the Show field of the video tab of get info. My guess is, and I can confirm when I go home, that the missing movies are in a "folder" called animated, that I over looked when scrolling down looking for a specific title. This is actually a good thing, but I didn't label the show field specifically, though it certainly is labeled on those tracks that I am missing, at least the couple I checked, and the ones that I do see, nothing is in that field. (thanks to back to my mac, now just allow screensharing on my apple tv... :))
This is a great feature, just don't like it being entered without my knowledge...
I will confirm upon getting home, but I bet if you have a large library and things go missing, make sure you have checked for folders. I know in my case, I added a genre to these movies by command selecting them and selecting get info, then changed the genre only. Either by bug or design, the Show field was also populated automatically. (both said animated) those that I entered the genre by itslef or in the library without get info, did not seem to populate the show field...

How do you move a clip from one event to a different event

Can't find anyway to do this. Seems pretty likely I'm overlooking the obvious.

Not sure what you mean. If you mean move clips from one event to another, you can just drag them in the Libraries pane. Or go to the File menu and use the Move Clip command.
If you mean from one project timeline to another, use copy and paste. Or just edit the edited source clip from the event in the browser to the other timeline.
