AHT Error...seems gone, thanks Genius!

Further to my previous posting with regard to the hardware test error code
ERROR: 4SNS/1/40000000 'TmOP
I just didn't want to wait until tomorrow to call Applecare , so packed the MBP and went to Regent St. store.
They were very nice and attentive, the genius admitted that these problems are just new and they don't have much training on it yet. However he did a NVRAM reset and after that we ran the AHT twice and no problems were found!
I am not certain whether that is the end of my problems but at least it seems to help for the moment.
Furthermore the manager on duty, replaced my battery on the spot and gave me one that registers 5628 mAh at the moment. Not bad eh!
He also reassured me that they will be happy to give me a new machine if the problem of hardware error persists.
I am very happy with the level of service, what more can you ask?
Once again I know that It was the right decision to switch from pc.
Apple Rocks!!!!!!

Thanks Steve. Just out of interest did you get the error message everytime or just on and off when you did the test?
Secondly as a newbie to macs, I can never tell when the fans are on or not as i don't know how loud they should be or how should they sound. What operating temperatures did you get before you had the logic board changed?
And now do you feel any difference in temperatures, because there are so many conflicting info here on the forums. Some say operating temps of 102F is just fine.. where as some disagree..
Thanks and regards

  • G5 DP 1.8 AHT 'error on startup'

One of my work's dual 1.8s turned out to be running on one CPU (for how long I don't know). Passed AHT, tried CHUD, no sign of missing processor. After a chat with a service guy, and being out of warranty, I decided to get my hands dirty. After browsing the web for info and taking on board the suggestion that 'the CPU may not be seated properly', I removed the second processor. Ran AHT - fine. Replaced processor - bingo! Dual 1.8 once again, but screaming fans. Ran AHT - 'error on startup' ERROR post/2048/0 ERROR, etc.
Removed second processor again. AHT - fine. Replaced processor; AHT - error; boot OK.
Removed second processor; removed first processor; installed second processor in first slot; AHT - error; boot OK.
Installed first processor in second processor slot; AHT - error; boot OK.
So what I have now is an apparently fully functional dual 1.8 G5, but with constantly running high-speed fans which sees an 'error on startup' in the AHT.
Can anyone shed any light on this problem?

The system probably isn't calibrated properly to run with the second processor. When you re-installed it, the system's thermal controller probably got confused and is kicking the fans into highspeed to prevent damage to the computer.
Apple's [service] manual states that you need to run the Apple Service Diagnostic to calibrate the fans/thermal management.
Unfortunately this is not available from Apple unless you are a service professional, and I cannot seem to locate it anywhere on Google. It would be best to get an Apple Techie in with the CD to re-calibrate the thermal management.
If that doesn't work, then the second processor could be damaged.

    RC,
This behavior is stemming from a change in MP 7.0 MR2 to disable the MPWeb login for system profiles.  This was an internal change made by the developers to restrict the log on to the MPWeb page by the default accounts created in MeetingPlace upon installation.  The change now displays this error when the admin account is attempted to be used for MPWeb login, as you experienced-
Error:[22953] You cannot sign in to the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Server interface using preconfigured system profiles.
You should be able to log into MPWeb using any other user profile that you have either created manually or pulled in from LDAP/Active Directory.  You just cannot use the admin account.  This is reserved for login to the MP Application Server Administration page only.  I am going to work to get this information added to the MP 7.0 documentation with a note for changed behavior in MR2 and above.  Here is the note from MP 8.0 documentation-
Note: You cannot use this preconfigured admin profile to access the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Server interface. Instead enter the User ID and password information from one of the other user profiles that have system administrator privileges to sign in to the Web Server.
Please let me know if you have any further questions.
    Thank You,
    Gerry

  • AHT Error message - 4MOT/4/40000003: HDD - 1248

Hi folks........ i'm looking for some help on a AHT error message?
    The error message is 4MOT /4/40000003: HDD - 1248
Has anyone any ideas what this is?
    Thanks
    Paul

You're looking at a drive issue, possibly heat and or fan related. Google is pretty good at pulling up posts for the error message.
If the system is still working and the drive is accessible make sure you do a backup right way and then make an appointment with Apple.
    good luck

    Hey erinoneill24,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Sounds like you can't update your device. You don't mention an error that it gives you. Take a look at both of these articles to troubleshoot.
iPod displays "Use iTunes to restore" message

If you can't update or restore your iOS device
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808?viewlocale=de_DE_1
If you started your device in recovery mode by mistake, restart it to exit recovery mode. Or you can just wait—after 15 minutes the device will exit recovery mode by itself.
    Have a nice day,

  • AHT Error codes

    Hi-
Does anyone know where to get Article number 113867 which explains the Apple Hardware Test (AHT) Error Codes for AHT v1.2.6 for Power Mac G4 computers? Trying to troubleshoot a problem child, and it would be most helpful to have that info!
The link to the error codes on the AHT v1.2.6 Article number 113868 results in "Document not found".
A search of the Apple Kbase for Article number 113867 results in only the article number 113868.
Kind of an "Escher-esk" loop of failure.....

    Hi Tom-
"Type? error -65536" is the one error I have gotten before the AHT freezes, and that was prior to initiating the test.
Beyond that, the test will run through the logic board, issue a "passed" message, and freeze at mass storage- this is with or without hard drives connected. ATA controller problem???
I guess I am looking for more than the basic explanation of AHT that Apple provides in the kbase. I would really like to know the sequencing of the tests, so that maybe I can narrow the hardware problem down at the point the test freezes.
As it is, the G4 GE 2x450mhz is responding randomly to Disk Repair, PRAM reset, Archive and Install, Erase and Install, substitute CPU, and PMU reset. All have returned the system to bootable service, at least once, but always end with the system freeze, and subsequent failure of the system to load.
Stripped to the shipped configuration, with or without known/tested good CPU, HDD, RAM, Gcard, Keyboard & Mouse substitutes, the system either freezes at gray Apple screen, or, freezes shortly after loading the OS. Occasionally, the desktop is reached, but invariably freezes within moments.
Currently, after an open firmware "reset-all", the system refuses to move beyond the gray Apple screen.
The only thing that does work (most of the time), is booting (with much effort) to the OS X install disc (10.4.3), and running whatever utility or installer I choose. The origional system/software restore CD's (OS 9) result in a blank gray screen.......
So, even with the AHT error codes, I think the problem won't be ID'd with them. Would be nice to have the article Apple references, though!

  • AHT Error 4SNS/1/40000000:Te2S-128.000

    Hi,
I just ran the Apple Hardware Test on my Mac Pro (desktop) 4,1 with OS Snow Leopard.. and I had an error code which I can't find anywhere online on what error is it referring to. Do anyone know what is this error? How do I fix it?
    AHT Error code 4SNS/1/40000000:Te2S-128.000
What does it mean? And how can I fix the error?

Only Apple really knows. Sensor for some type.
What are you using to monitor thermal sensors and the rest of the system?
    Download Temperature Montor
Schedule or take it in for a free checkup.
You can google to find the Apple Service Diagnostic CD.
Your Mac is 4 yrs old so likely out of AppleCare?
I could only find notebooks and they wree not that particular sensor code.

  • AHT error gone after removing Boot Camp

    Hi,
Recently I ran AHT on my 2011 27" iMac and got this error: 4MOT/4/40000003: HDD- 1229
The error relates to the HDD fan.
I ran the test 5 times and received the same error (last 4 digits change), so I have booked it in to my local AASP to be checked under Applecare.
I was preparing it for collection today and decided to remove my Boot Camp partition. Afterwards, I ran the AHT 3 times and now I'm getting "no problems found".
Is it likely that the Boot Camp partition was causing the error? If so, can I safetly dismiss it?
By the way, I'm an ACSP and I've gone through all the usual diagnostic proceedures.

It's strange that Windows causes that type of problems. However, I recommend you to take the Mac to the Apple Store so they can check your computer. Also, I recommend you to run Apple Hardware Test again, because it may not detect a hard drive problem

  • Mac Mini Kernal Panics and AHT error - long description

I have a late 2009 Mini that has had kernal panic issues for some time. When I first bought the computer it had 1/120 and I upgraded it to 2/320 myself. It is hooked up to my HDTV as a media server and it started getting kernel panics running Netflix in Safari. Sometimes the fan would spin up to very high levels while running Virtual Box with Windows XP.
It seemed to be the added RAM and I pulled it. Panics went away but now it is very slow. I purchased 2 - 2GB RAM from OWC and installed in machine. It was good for a while but then started kernel panics again.
Recently my MS bluetooth keyboard started having issues connecting and the panics got worse. I ran AHT on the machine and got the following error code:
4MOT/2/40000004: Master - 0 I reran the test and got 4MOT/2/40000004: Master - some 4 digit number I didn't write down because someone unplugged the machine while I was getting a pen.
It appears to be heat related because after a kernel panic if I leave the machine turned off for half an hour or so it works again for a while but if I just restart it will panic again within the next 15 minutes.

Thank you for the answer. I suspected a fan issue considering the symptoms. I know others have had fan issues with other MOT codes but wasn't sure.
It is odd that it says MOT instead of, oh, say, FAN.
I think my first step will be to run the fan utility and see what the fan and temps are doing before I go to a Genius bar.
Go ahead and make the appointment; if the AHT says it's bad, it needs attention.

  • Mac Mini AHT error code:  2MLB/10/4: $0004.89f1

Have Mac Mini G4 1.42 purchased in 2005, upgraded by Apple service center to 1 Gb and never used - sat in box. I recently starting using it after putting and experienced random kernel panics and application crashes. Ran AHT which produced error code on second pass: 2MLB/10/4: $0004.89f1 .
Thinking this was RAM, replaced RAM with quality 1 Gb stick, ran AHT again, but on third pass received same error code, 2MLB/10/4: $0004.89f1 .
I am interested in knowing EXACTLY what this error code means - cannot believe this is not online anywhere. Can anyone with an error code listing tell me? I already suspect this machine will become a paperweight.
If so please post and/or email scotsilv AT aol.com
    Thanks
    Scot

...I noted that my machine's Boot ROM Version is: 4.8.9f1
So, $0004.89f1 is simply the boot rom version and 10/4 the OS.
Appears I had a loose Airport card, which when tightened seems to have made the machine stable.

  • MacBook Pro Retina, AHT Error: 4HDD/11/40000000: SATA(0,0)

I have written this post to note a strange occurrence with my MacBook Pro, with retina display.
When I had connected my classic iPod to iTunes, I had received an error message telling me that I was only using a USB 1.1 port.
I knew that this was impossible, so I had run an extended Apple Hardware Test to see if I had any issues.
Sure enough, I had received the above error.
After a restart and a quick back up to save my data, I had performed the extended Apple Hardware Test 3 more times with no errors whatsoever.
This message is not to solicit the "head down to your local Apple Store or AASP" advice.
I am curious if anyone else has experienced such an issue and what was their ultimate outcome.
For reference, I have a 15-inch, retina, 2.7 GHz, 16 GB RAM, 768 flash drive MacBook Pro notebook. I am running 10.8.2.
    Thank you!
    LukeD

This is choice that is entirely within the OPs province.  I certainly agree with your position that intermittent issues are exceedingly difficult to diagnose and address.  Failure to recreate a problem does not mean that the issue does not exist.
The support article that you raise has a certain ambiguity contained within.  It states: "looping can be enabled or disabled by pressing the L key" .  Which is it?  That aside, this is the first I have encountered this feature since it is not mentioned in any of the AHT articles that I have come across.  The real question is, did the OP utilize this?
If I were in the OPs position and even considering the argument that you present, I still would make an appointment at the genius bar.  Call me Chicken Little if you will, but the warranty is there to erase any doubts whether the MBP has issues or not.  Apparently you would not, so I hope that we can agree to disagree on this issue.
    Ciao.

  • AHT error code 4SNS/1/40000001:TB1T-0.00?

Running the long AHT on a Late 2008 (Unibody) MacBook Pro produced error code 4SNS/1/40000001:TB1T-0.00. I gather this is a logic board issue of some kind; does anyone know more about it?

Thanks; do you know what kind of "sensor"? I put the bottom plate back on, zapped the PRAM, and ran the short AHT, which passed. The fans came on, but went back down in a few minutes, so it seems like heat sensors might be okay. I'm going to run some maintenance routines and see what happens.
(A puppy peed on this MBP, and the owner brought it to me because it wouldn't start at all. I opened it up, found some ugly blue-green gunk, cleaned it, reset the SMC, and it started okay. Now I'm trying to figure out how serious the error reported by AHT is.)
