  • Consistent Pantone previews between AI and ID CS3

    I've recently read about setting your ink manager in ID to 'Use standard Lab Values for Spots'. This gives quite an improvement to the preview of some colours. However, if I place an AI object with Pantone colours (with colour mode set to Lab) in ID, the colours don't match. The AI colour displays much lighter than an ID object colored with the same swatch. Compared to the Pantone fan, the ID object matches best. How can I fix this?
    AI 13.0.2
    ID 5.0.3
    OS 10.4.11

    Why Lab? Best use CMYK colour mode. Check that the CMYK readings are the same in Illy and InDesign and that the colours and swatches are definitely spot. If not, adjust them so that they are, preferably according to your Pantone Spot-to-Process fan. Then you're dead sure that everyone's talking the same language in both applications, regardless of what you see on screen.
    Remember that CMYK values for spot colours are basically cosmetic. However if you decide to print using CMYK only, the spot colours will only convert to CMYK in the same way out of both applications if their CMYK values and swatches are identical.

  • Need help with CS3 DW previews in Firefox 3.6.13

    I'm working in CS3 Dreamweaver & just updated Firefox to 3.6.13. Before I updated, I had no problem previewing websites in DW. Since I'm on a Mac & working on a Linux site, now I can't get previews on any browser but Safari (no Firefox, no IE). Help!

    There is a fix for Dreamweaver, so it works in Firefox 3.6+ versions on MacOSX 10.5 and higher - may be inconsistent with lower versions of Mac OSX:
    http://solutions.marketingmedley.com/
    There is a $5.00 fee for that Dreamweaver fix. That website and the fix are not associated with Mozilla in any manner. Support for that fix is provided by that that website via email.

  • InDesign thumbnails previews inconsistent

    For some reason, my InDesign CS5 files are inconsistent in showing the thumbnail preview in Bridge CS5.
    I recently did a fresh install when upgrading to Lion. The problem was present both before and after (but I was kinda hoping it's go away after the fresh install).
    Here's a preview.
    The problem's become increasingly more frequent in my recent files. My earliest .indd files from way back in CS1-CS3 all show previews.
    I've tried purging the cache, turning cache settings on and off, and turned on 'Always High Quality' and 'Generate 100% Previews'. I've browsed boards as well as these pages, but without finding something similar.
    But I've noted that the recent files that do have previews, all have a tiny double-ring icon in the top right corner. This icon is not present on my oldest files that also have previews though. And what's more: The preview problems starts around the same time files begin sporting this icon.
    EDIT: That's the exact time I jumped from CS3 to CS5.
    Doing a mouse over on the icon reveals nothing I'm afraid.
    If anyone is able to help it's be awesome, as it's severely hurting my workflow.

    I checked that some time back, and my settings were already set to save preview.
    My previews were set to save as medium though, and I thought what the heck, and tried changing it to extra large.
    The previews are now successfully showing?! (Albeit I have to open the document and save it.)
    I usually like getting to the bottom of why stuff isn't working, but at this point I don't care anymore, I'm just really happy it's fixed for whatever reason. Sometimes you just need to fiddle around with settings, and I didn't think of fiddling there.
    Thanks a bunch, Curt!

  • CS3 Disables Preview as Default PDF Viewer in Safari

    Hey Guys,
    I can't figure this out for the life of me. Since I've installed CS3 with adobe acrobat, each time I click a PDF link I'm asked to choose an app to open the pdf, and preview is not an option.
    preview is so much easier than acrobat for this kind of stuff!
    any ideas?
    ben

    I don't think you can blame Safari for this response. I get the same response in Firefox and Safari. It seems to be a strong-arm tactic of Adobe. I don't consider the Schubert plugin an elegant solution as it is shareware so either you pay for a license or you tolerate a nag screen every time you want to view a PDF file in Safari. The solution seems to be to move the AdobePDFViewer.plugin out of the root level of the Internet Plug-Ins folder such as to the Disabled Plugins folder. Quit and relaunch Safari and it should view PDF files as embedded. If later you change your mind and want to use Adobe Reader to view PDF files in Safari, you should move the AdobePDFViewer.plugin back to the root of the Internet Plug-Ins folder.

  • CS3 Bridge: Preview image too small

    Hi,
    Here's what I'm using:
    Photoshop CS3: 10.0.1
    Bridge: 2.1.1.9
    ACR: 4.6.0.30
    No matter what mode I coose (lightbox, horizontal/vertical filmstrip ...), the preview image occupies a very small part of the preview pane and I find no way to resize it. The thumnail pane and the thumbnail images themselves are resizable all right.
    I tried purging the cache and that didn't help.
    Any help would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Prabal.

    Hi,
    I wanted to report another experiment that possibly points out where the problem is.
    Case 1:
    I placed the preview and content panes one above the other. Like so (preview pane at the top):
    Then I started pulling the horizontal separator between the two panes to shrink the size of the lower pane and this caused the preview image to starting to get bigger to fit the preview pane real estate space. Look at the image below (and note that the bigger image is not rendered correctly) and note that at the time of taking the screenshot, I did not yet release the horizontal separator:
    Finally, just as I released the horizontal separator bar, the image in the preview pane got resized to its initial small size:
    Any clue?
    Thanks,
    Prabal.

  • CS3 Bridge Preview Soft

    Please see Case No: 172571700 for details, however, I would love to see your developers come up with an option in preferences that would allow one to choose to see larger RAW files as sharp as they really are. Right now when I load up images from my Canon 1Ds Mark II or Canon !1D Mark III, the images in the preview pane are soft and mushy even though they are sharp. The problem is that I have to shoot sometimes in order of 1,500 images a day for certain assignments, and I can't tell if my images are in focus or not without opening them up in ACR. That takes too much time. In Bridge CS2 I never had that problem. I understand that you generate the image from the preview image in the RAW file, but even if I convert to DNG with High Res preview, the good images still look soft and mushy.
    Take a look at your forum on Bridge and you will see that I am not the only one that wants a preview pane that works. I will take the hit in speed. I am sure is will be faster than opening up every image in ACR.
    Thanks,
    Daniel Root
    Portland, OR

    Adding my voice to the chorus... I use a Canon 5D (among other cameras) and the previews in Bridge look little like what I see when I open the files in ACR or as converted TIFFs in PS CS3. Purging the caches (globally, and then often again for the individual folder) is an unnecessary manual step and there should be an option to build the preview directly from the RAW file (vs. the embedded JPEG as it appears to do now).
    Same goes for the magnified 'loupe' view in Bridge -- it's not much use as is in terms of checking for sharpness, it looks like it's just magnifying the JPEG preview (and beyond 100% as well, it would appear), so what you see are, mostly, soft pixels resulting from the bicubic smoother upscaling and color blocks from JPEG artifacting.
    Thanks,

  • Cs3 bridge preview ghost windows

    I am running CS3 on a Gateway P7805-u w/ Intel Core Duo 2 CPU 2.26/2.27 ghz processor, 4.0 ram and 64 bit os machine using  Windows Vista. I am unable to use Bridge because the preview windows seem to duplicate themselves and I end up with what looks like multiple window (do they call them ghost windows?) of a preview open at once. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, updating my NVidia9800 1GB graphics card and updating CS3. The program ran fine when I first started using it on this machine. It works fine on my desktop computer running XP.
    I really like Bridge and would like to upgrade to CS4, but not if I can't run it on this machine. Any feedback would be appreciated.

    Simple workarounds. This is a problem with the graphics card not being up to the task.  You will also have problems with the slide mode.
    A simple way to get aroiund this is to click on restore down in upper right corner.  You can expand window to max with arrows.  If you run in max mode you will get problem you describe.
    Go to advanced preferences in Bridge and click on "use software rendering".  Seems to work OK in this mode, so not necessary to replace video card for this this problem.
    Hope this solves your problem.
    p.s.  There are a lot of problems with Nvidia 195 series drivers with Bridge and PS.

  • CS3 author 'preview in browser'

    My company recently upgrade all authors to Contribute CS3,
    from Contribute 3. In the previous version I, as system admin, gave
    everyone a new ccmenus.xml file that allowed authors (i.e. roles
    without Publishing permissions) to use F12 to 'Preview in browser'.
    However, now that we have CS3 (i.e. v4.1), this no longer works.
    I need my authors to be able to preview their work BEFORE
    they send for review, especially as the templates I created for
    them to use rely heavily on scripted sections, meaning that what
    they see in 'edit mode' is nothing like the end result once
    published.
    How can I re-enable the F12 functionality for authors?

    I found the ccmenus.xml file in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe
    Contribute CS3\Configuration\Menus\.
    This is the xml:
    <menuitem name="P_review in Browser" platform="win"
    key="F12" enabled="dw.getDocumentDOM() &&
    dw.doesWorkflowAllowPublish() &&
    CCWorkspaceManager.getManager(dw.getDocumentDOM()) &&
    CCWorkspaceManager.getManager(dw.getDocumentDOM()).canProcessEvent('browserPreview')"
    command="CCWorkspaceManager.getManager(dw.getDocumentDOM()).processEvent('browserPreview' )"
    id="DWMenu_File_BrowserPreview"/>
    Maybe you can change this to:
    <menuitem name="P_review in Browser" platform="win"
    key="F12" enabled="dw.getDocumentDOM() &&
    CCWorkspaceManager.getManager(dw.getDocumentDOM()) &&
    CCWorkspaceManager.getManager(dw.getDocumentDOM()).canProcessEvent('browserPreview')"
    command="CCWorkspaceManager.getManager(dw.getDocumentDOM()).processEvent('browserPreview' )"
    id="DWMenu_File_BrowserPreview"/>
    I tested this as a writer and I can preview the page in the
    browser pressing F12 or going to File, Preview in browser.

  • PDF Output Preview Inconsistent

    I have created a document in Framemaker and printed it out to a PDF.  When I check the PDF Output Preview to see if there is any color by turning off Process Black, I find an image that shows up as gray.  If I then scroll to the bottom of my PDF and then come back to this image, it no longer shows up.  I've had another person in the office check the file and the same thing happens.  The image in question was created in Illustrator before being imported into Framemaker.  All the colors were set to black.
    Is this a bug in how the PDF is displaying the Output Preview?  Or is there an issue with the image?

    I ordered a book a couple of weeks ago with the advice of AppleCare people responsible for printed product, that the PDF which is seen in the purchase process is what the final output would look like.
    However, and to my disappointment, it was not the case. Indeed, the PDF was cropped on the edges. The AppleCare people ordered a reprint to see if any change would appear, but unfortunately it was not the case.
    Now the matter is within AppleCare quality control's jurisdiction and I do not know yet what will be their conclusion. I'll keep you posted if you are interested.

  • CS3/CS4 - Preview of page item = Crash in rare cases

    Hi,
    I'm wondering about how the to draw a preview of a page item, in the most correct way. Currently im using the SnapshotUtils like:
    SnapshotUtils ex(somePageItemRef,scaling,scaling);
    And then:
    AGMImageRecord* fpCurAGMImage = (AGMImageRecord*)ex.CreateAGMImageAccessor()->GetAGMImageRecord();
    to obtain an AGMImageRecord that I can draw onto an IGraphicsPort:
    PMMatrix theMatrix;    // No transform
    gPort->image(fpCurAGMImage, theMatrix, 0);
    However, one customer(PPC Mac 10.4 CS4) had a crash in this code, as seen from the partial stack trace below:
    Thread 0 Crashed:

    MyCustomView::Draw (IViewPort*, __HIShape*) + 1560
    I can see in the documentation that the GetAGMImageRecord function should not be called any more as of InDesign 3.0, however I cannot figure out another way of obtaining an object that i can draw onto the IGraphicsPort? Is there a more preferred solution?
    I Hope somebody can help on this one
    Thanks!
    Kind regards Toke

    Hi Toke,
    I do not have any experience with this sort of stuff ;-(
    However have you noticed the sdk sample transparencyeffect which still uses GetAGMImageRecord even with CS4. Maybe the sample code sheds some light on your problem.

  • Audio Track Not Changing CS3 Encore Preview

    I have done this before (it has been a few months) and I hope I am missing something obvious.  I have 1 timeline with 19 avi's from PPCS3 with their related audio on Audio 1 track.  I have added music on Audio 2.  Everything plays fine in the monitor when I select either Audio 1 or 2 with the little speaker on the left side of the timeline.  My main menu has a button to select a submenu that has two buttons - one for game sounds (soccer games) and one for music.  I have used specify link and choose the appropriate audio track and link back to the main menu.  Just for fun (after I could not get the music to play in preview) I added a subtitle track 1 that contains the artist and song title (my first attempt at subtitles) and this works fine when music is selected (and not when you select game sound since I set subtitle track to 0), but in preview it is stuck on Audio 1 and even when I change manually in preview to Audio 2 - Audio 1 keeps playing.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Bob

    Took a hint from another post that preview does not always work.  This is the first time I have had this problem, but I usually come to Encore by way of export from PPCS3.  I built to folder and it played like I wanted with software.  Now I will finish the project and feel confident that it will work.
    Just in case anyone is reading this, I had another error that it took me a few minutes to figure out in this project.  The default location for chapters was too close to the beginning of a chapter and that chapter would not play even though the build check said there were no errors.  I hope some of these problems are not in CS5.

  • Preview Problem for DSC 2.0 files in CS4

    I'm having problems getting a preview for a file created in Adbobe PSCS4. The file is a Multi-channel using spot colors. The file was created new by going from a blank RGB straight to Multi-channels and spot colors assigned to each channel with an additional 4th channel. File was saved including 8 bit preview and a single file with color composite. When placed into Illustrator CS4 I get a solid black area. When imported to Windows Illustrator CS3 the preview is soon as expected.
    Also there are problems printing DSC 2.0 placed files for color separations. In windows cs3 I have to copy the DSC 2.0 to a new document in order to do color separations using PowerRIP ImageSet as the print driver. I don't do color seps on Mac with CS4 since I only have a windows license at this time for the RIP.

    After further testing I've found out what the reason is for the black rending in CS4 Illustrator.
    When rending DSC 2.0 within Illustrator CS4 for a preview, it doesn't calculate the opacity of each channel. I use the first channel to render my substrate color, my original file had a pure black for my substrate. Then I calculate the opacity of Inks being used on the other channels. This is a major bug for me. I have no idea what Illustrator will do if my first channel in the DCS 2.0 is something other than Black, I haven't tried yet.

  • Html preview in evaluation copy

    I'm evaluating flash cs3 and am having a problem when I view
