AI CS4 - Correct Document Setup for Accurately Displaying for Screen Output?

I am using Illustrator to design screens for a computer interactive. The screen I am designing for is 1366x768 pixels and 22.677 x 12.756 inches, making the final screen resolution about 60 pixels per inch. Is there a way I can set up my Illustrator doc so it will be the correct "size" in inches AND pixels? Reason being, I would like to be able to use the pixel preview mode and see an accurate display of what my illustrations will look like in pixels and also be able to print out the screens at actual size to get an idea of how big things will be and test usability.
It seems like the best option is to set the correct pixel size and scale up by 120% when I print. I don't see a way to work at the correct size in inches and set the ppi at 60.
I know that the best way to do this would be to view stuff on the actual monitor, but I don't have it yet, and my cinema disply is not big enough.
Also- is there an easy way to control the zoom setting so I can see the illustrations at "actual size (inches)" on my cinema display. When I use the actual size view, it displays too small, since I am assuming my cinema display has a higher ppi setting than my final output device. I can guesstimate, but it would be great to have an easy way to snap back and forth.

You will have to use the Zoom setting (display resolution)/72*100% (96 PPI would yield (just over) 133%).

What is a good ID5 Document Setup for an epub ebook for the iPhone?

I'd welcome some help using ID5 to create an ebook that is optimized for displaying on the iPhone.
In particular, I'm looking for appropriate dimensions of the base page, in pixels, to enter in the Document Setup dialog box.
From what I've read, 320 x 480 pixels should work well for both the iPhone 4 as well as previous versions.
Is that accurate?
The Setup page also includes boxes for Bleed and Slug. Should any values be entered there, or should they remain zero?

This is a great question because it seems like there should be… but the truth is that there isn’t. The reason there isn’t is important: You don’t lay out an EPUB “ebook.”
Since you got off with a bad start, you might want to invest in your background material; either new book in New InDesign-to-eBook Resources should be good for starters.

Pdf document setup for print issues

Hey all,
I just happened to have a friend who is getting married asking me to make their invitations. I am not at all familiar with the print process (I'm a noob, just getting started), but managed myself to go with a print house that offers me guidelines about how to prepare my final artwork for them to print ( outline texts, line work no thinner than .5pt, Coated fogra 39, PDF/x-1a, no flattened artwork, cmyk values... I think I'm not forgetting anything).
I followed all the instructions and saved my PDF, but when I open it to previz, I get a horrendous result :O !
All the artwork seems to "break" (you know, sawed edges), but what's more worrying, is that there are kind of very thin gaps, transparent ones, that appear, as if I had the document sliced. I've opened the pdf in Photoshop, and added a red layer background to save a copy and insert it here, see if anyone can help me out on this one.

I do have all the original artwork in Illustrator, just wanted to check the resulting PDF Export in other apps... You know, curiosity killed the cat hahah... You explanation makes very much sense, although I'm a newbie, but I thought it might be something of that nature... I do hope anyway, that I could get a printed sample card before ordering the whole bunch... I would not like at all to ruin my friends wedding...
I have so much admiration for you all print artists and illustrators! I love that universe, but also am aware of the complexity and extended knowledge one must have... But hey, you gotta start somewhere!

Correct DNS Setup for Mailman Virtual Host?

DNS gurus, help please: I'm setting up a new Snow Leopard server that will rely upon an external name server. The single PTR record for this server will be the server's primary website, www.ourprimarydomain.topleveldomain . This primary domain name currently resolves to our current production server. I'm migrating Mailman before the primary website, and I'd like for Mailman to use a subdomain like mailinglists.ourprimarydomain.topleveldomain . This subdomain currently resolves to Mailman on our current production server. For testing before we switch to the new server, I'd like to set up a sub-subdomain development.mailinglists.ourprimarydomain.topleveldomain .
Clear as mud? Here's what I think that I need in our external DNS, is this the best way?
A: development.mailinglists.ourprimarydomain.topleveldomain -> new server IP
MX: development.mailinglists.ourprimarydomain.topleveldomain -> new server IP
PTR: none until we migrate primary website
Will this break anything? If we need a PTR record, perhaps we should register an external domain name that isn't our primary website.
What about C records? Should I register aliases?

OK, I've changed my plan. I think that this is the best for my scenario:
Register an external A, MX, and PTR for development.mailinglists.ourprimarydomain.topleveldomain -- I read that some email spam filtering systems use PTR (reverse lookup) as one factor in spam identification. So I want a PTR to begin with for testing. Once the mailing lists are migrated, I simply request that the current production domains point to the new IP.

By specifying a print profile, the printers for output processing are redetermined. You can, for example, assign the printers of a specific packing station to a print profile.
Using the parameter "PPT", you can individually define the print profile in the user parameters."
Please note that you also have to maintain the profile for each user.

CS4 - Dual Monitor Setup - Files open on wrong screen + Preview Adjustment layers

I have various workstations running Mac OS 10.5.8 three run PS CS3, and one runs CS4
In CS4 files always open on the monitor I have allocated for my palattes. Before CS4, Photoshop would open files on the monitor that my last filed was opened on. This is highly annoying!!! How can I fix it so that it at least always opens on the same monitor.
(My menu bar is on the monitor I've designated for my palettes menu and not the monitor I do all my color work on.)
Also, any hopes that we will be able to have a preview button for adjustment layers again? This is highly annoying, and if I'm able to do so when adjusting directly onto a layer, why don't I at least have the option to have a preview button when having an adjustment layer????

Well if you menu bar is on your "second" monitor, it's generally considered now the "first" monitor, and hence most files will open on that screen by default. But sometimes you can make a file open on the other monitor if you have your mouse cursor in the other monitor. So put your cursor on the desired screen, press command-O and the open dialog should show there, and the image should open there too. Also works if you double click a file on the desktop of the 2nd monitor. (Usually, these are the window opening dynamics as best I can figure).

How can I disable the "this PDF document might not be displayed correctly" notification?

Almost all PDF files produce the "this PDF document might not be displayed correctly" message when viewed with the built-in PDF viewer.
This message does not convey useful information. It appears on almost all PDF files (even though they usually work correctly after all); it sometimes fails to appear even on files that don't work (so it does not accurately predict whether a given file will work); when a file doesn't work, there is no way to make it work short of using an external viewer (so the error I'm being warned about is not something I can fix); and it demands a user action to dismiss it EVERY TIME it appears (so it places a disproportionate demand on my attention). How can I disable it?
Please note that I am not looking for instructions on how to disable the built-in PDF viewer. I just want to turn off the warning message.

On Linux you only have an older version of the Adobe Reader available, so you may have to open the PDF files in an external viewer like evince.
You can set the pdfjs.disabled pref to true on the <b>about:config</b> page to disable the build-in PDF viewer.
You can check the value of the plugin.disable_full_page_plugin_for_types pref on the about:config page and remove the application/pdf part if present or reset the pref to the default via the right-click context menu if you want to display PDF documents in Firefox with another application (i.e. not the built-in PDF Viewer).

Script for Document Setup size...

     I have a request for a script, not sure how one would go about it but here we go.
An AI CS4 user selects a shape, they then execute a script that...
Resizes the Document Setup Art Board to one inch larger (length width) than the selected shape.
Then a rectangle is drawn in the document and is sized the same as the art board.
Any help would be great!!!

     I am tweaking this script again and have run into a road block that you may have a simple answer for. When I execute this script when selecting a single object it works perfect, if I execute it while selecting a group of objects the script will not apply the spot color to the selection. Document Summary, wrong values displayed for not persistent prompt

Some prompt values displayed on the document summary portion of the document properties area are displaying incorrect values.
It looks like non persistent prompts are showing the value of the prompt listed just before the non_persistent prompt, instead of the value entered by the user.
eg: persistent prompt 'enter code', user enters 1234
non persistent prompt 'enter date', users enters 1/2/2008
display in document summary:
code - 1234
date - 1234
Is this a known issue with Webi? I imagine it is not an issue with the report, but if so, please let me know if there is something I can do to correct it.

I have checked OB52 and the periods for "+" & "A" are open for 2012.

MSN only displays text. Firefox IE both. Rebooting router/modems corrects the problem for awhile.

Everything runs great for a few weeks and the right out of the blue MSN home page only displays partial imiages and the rest of the imiages display text only. Rebooting the modem and router and desk top corrects the problem for a couple of weeks. Help.

Something that only occurs every few weeks is going to be hard to debug.
Next time it happens, could you try reloading the page bypassing cached pages? You can do that using Ctrl+Shift+r to force a full reload from the server. If that works, then most likely some files in Firefox's cache became corrupted.
Not sure why you would simultaneously have the same issue in IE, though. Hmmm...

Disk Setup for CS4

Hello All,
Looking for some recommendations on disk setup for CS4. Some quick specs. XP Pro 64 bit,Intel i7 extreme, 12GB DDR3 RAM, and 8 Velociraptor 300 GB Drives.
I orginally had it setup as a single Array (RAID 5 with online spare) with two partitions ( One for OS and program files, and one for storage and Scratch and Page file)on the array. I wasnt getting very good performance so I decided to wipe and reconfigure.
Would I be better off with 2 arrays? One array of 2 drives RAID 0(600 GB) for OS, Program Files, and Scratch Space. and the second array of 6 drives at RAID 5 (1.3 TB) for storage?
Or maybe even go with a single drive for OS and Program Files (300 GB). A single drive for Scratch Space (300 GB). and then the 6 Drives in RAID 5 for storage?
Also where would be the best loacation for the paging file?

The speed of a 7-disk raid5 is far higher than a single disk. The speed degradation from a 7-disk to 6-disk raid may not outbalance the addition of a single disk for scratch.
I am seriously considering to move 2 single disks to my raid array, so I end up with 2 x 7 disks in a Raid30.

I am planning to use the NRSE -setup for 5 4-20mA pressure meters that share a common GND. I drew a physical connection diagram according to the connection diagram that the DAQ Assistant suggested. However I am not sure at all if it is correct or not... The 500 ohm resistors are for converting the 4-20mA to 2-10V. I am using a NI USB 6353 DAQ.
Could someone check the diagram for me?

As far as I know, that should work.
By seeing your diagram, I guess that you want to use AI0 (pin 1), AI8 (pin 2), AI1 (pin 4), AI9 (pin 5), AI3 (pin 10)...and AISENSE (pin 13) for common reference. If so, that should be OK.
