AI importation - when is a drawing too 'compex' (errors & bugs)
Hello there...
I am undertaking a project to make a basic 'interactive' campus map using Catalyst based on the tutorial by Terry White at the 'Adobe Creative Suite Podcast' on making an interactive map with Catalyst. Link: 'Create an Interactive Map using Adobe Flash Catalyst CS5'
However, as this is the first time I have used Catalyst (or FLASH) for a project I am experiencing some import problems which seem to be to do with the complexity of my Adobe Illustrator map drawing. Here is what the map looks like when it is imported...
Ignoring my rudamentary test navigation (!) you get an idea of how complex the map is - my problems are:
1) On attempting to import Catalyst does warn me about teh complexity and asks me to optomize the graphics from teh HUD once it does go in (which takes a few minutes)...
2) Even once it is imported and has been optomized the map seems to cause Catalyst problems and there have been a few crashes when I have attempted to move and resize the map to show zoomed views on new pages.
3) On importing I am finding bugs in some of the vector lines - some line come in at the wrong stroke weight and even when I try round-tripping back to Illustrator the weight will not change and I have had to simply delete them.
4) All of the lines appear to be very heavy in the 100% Flash view, even though in reality they are only 0.25pts in weight!
BASICALLY - am I asking too much from Catalyst? Is this complex isometric map just not going to work?
I should say I have a 'plan B' which is that I have redrawn the map as a simplified top down diagram instead, would this be more suitable?
Size of the iso map is 694 pixels wide and teh ai file is 401kb big.

I think that plan B would be the go. That looks like a fairly complex AI file, and I can imagine that translating the vectors into FXG (the format that Catalyst uses) could be problematic.
Without knowing the full design, could you consider using rendered bitmap versions and using cross-fades for the zoom in & outs?

File too large error or corrupt file error
I have scanned some images using a Nikon Cool Scan and when trying to import the the NEF files into Lightroom I get a corrupt or unrecognized file error. Bring it into CS2 or CS3 and save as TIFF and try the import and get a File too large error.
Any ideas or help on this. What is the file size max for import?
The scan is 4000dpi even tried at 300dpi.

<br />There's no necessary relationship between pixels and dots. You could scan an image at 4,000,000 dpi and translate it into an image of 100 x 100 pixels. I've used ridiculous extremes to make a point. The LR limitation is currently 10,000 pixels for any side. So you could have 9,000 x9,000 pixels but not 10,001 x50 pixels.

I am having a problem when I plug my iPod into my macbook. When I plug the cable into my mac I get the following message - "Because a USB device was drawing too much power from your computer, your USB device has been disabled." CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!
The rest of the message in the pop up window says "To prevent damaging your computer, the USB device drawing too much power has been disabled. Other devices may have also been disabled. When you disconnect the device drawing too much power, your other USB devices will be enabled again."

Because a USB device was drawing too much power from your computer, one or more of your USB devices have been disabled. - This is what shows up sometimes even when no USB is connected. What could be the reason?
Try a different USB cord, seen this many many times, its highly likely a damaged USB cord.
Restart the computer to redefine Port definition. If still a problem

When I plug in my iPhone to my iMac my computer flashes a box that says my USB device is drawing too much power from my computer and claims one or more of my devices have been disabled. Then it will not sync my iPhone 5. Any solution ideas?
Try unplugging any other USB devices. If you are using a hub, don't, connect the phone directly to a computer USB port.
None of these are necessarily things you should do, but might help. For instance, if you plug the phone to an already busy hub, the phone might be "the straw that broke the camel's back" and lock out the hub. -
olympus xz-1 camera when connected to ipad2 with supplied usb cable into apple usb to 30pin adapter it prompts the ipad to display a message like " this device draws too much power to charge" and then i can go no further! if i take the card from the camera and put it into the card to 30pin adapter and plug that into the ipad no problems. if i connect the camera with supplied usb cable to desktop imac , no problems. if i connect my olympus slr to the ipad using its usb cable into the apple usb to 30pin , no problem . very frustrating , i don't want to always have to take the card out of the camera to down load photos to the ipad2,IDEAS?

I plugged my ipod in before bed an used it and was working fine then i went to go use it and it wouldn't turn on or no sign nothing. So I went to plug it in to my computer and it said that my USB port is drawing too much power and that is disabled... How do i get my ipod to work again...??

This appears to be a problem with the USB cable. I can make this message happen during a sync with itunes. If i lift the cable with my finger about a cm away from the join between the cable and the USB connector head of the cable I get this warning message each time I try. I must have a loose wire/connection in the cable.

FOR GURUS: Over Current Notice - USB device drawing too much power
Hi,
When I plug a USB extender cable to any USB port on any Mac tested so far, I get the warning:
"USB Over Current Notice. The USB device is currently drawing too much power. The port it is attached to will be deactivated".
In fact, that freezes the Mac mouse and keyboard until the USB extender cable is unplugged, and renders the used USB port unusable until the next restart.
What is going on? Such extender cable worked fine until Virtual PC was open with Windows XP XP2 in safe mode on an iMac G5 (20-inch) with Mac OS X 10.4.3. A 1GB flash pen was inserted, and its files were seen via "My computer". Then the flash pen was taken out (without properly ejecting it via Windows) and someone inserted a 2.2 GB USB hard disk, which froze the Mac and caused the reported problem from that moment.
So it seems that the USB cable is now somehow defective, but I wonder if it could be fixed, since it does not seem to have any internal circuit but just the USB connectors and cables. So I wonder what is going on...

USB Overcurrent Protection issues arise when one or more of the USB devices draw too much power or, by adding a device to a USB hub, one exceeds the current budget for the entire chain. A detailed explanation can be found in this article, where it states:"Should the cumulative current drawn by a group of downstream ports exceed a preset value, the overcurrent protector removes power from all downstream ports. Overcurrent circuits are used to protect against catastrophic device failures, software errors that lead to devices turning on when the current budget has been exceeded, and user-caused events such as the shorting out of connector pins."See also "USB: Hub Description" for important information on self-powered vs. bus-powered UBS hubs.
Your Apple Pro keyboard is a bus-powered USB hub. Some displays continaing USB ports may act as either bus-powered or self-powered hubs: one has to consult the display's documentation for details.
• If USB Overcurrent problems arise using a bus-powered, third-party USB hub, try a self-powered hub or connect the USB device directly to one of the built-in USB ports on the computer itself.
• If USB Overcurrent Protection issues arise when a device is connected directly to one of the built-in USB ports on the computer itself, then the peripheral device or its cable is either damaged or defective.
Note that you can not put two bus-powered hubs in series. In addition to the article "USB: Hub Description", see also "Apple Pro Keyboard: Devices Connected to Hub May Not Work."

My 15" Macbook Pro, OS X, 10.6.8, 2GHz Intel Core i7, 4GB memory keeps booting my 1 TB Seagate external harddrive off because it is drawing too much energy. It's done this repeatedly for about two weeks, and now it won't appear on the desktop (while it still whirs when I attach it and the LED comes on). I checked how much energy it's drawing in the System Profiler. 500, then very little after I restarted both machines, and then too much again. I tried connecting it with an identical harddrive's cable (my housemate has the same model), and it wouldn't register then, either.
...I suspect it's the harddrive as opposed to my MBP! Or I hope it is, and not a problem with my USB ports or anything like that. I'm surprised because the Seagate is connected to the mains... But if it is the Mac, how would I go about checking to know if it is? (My Wacom Bamboo is working fine.)
Anyone with any ideas, suggestions? Anything else I need to inform you guys of?:-) use your room mate's and do it!
pretty old drive, is it makeing clicking noises? try re repairting it before you go erasing but I think yoru system is giving you some sound advice. but I would go further in saying it's either too full or too old and is on it's last legs.
If you are afraid you're going to be loosing some important data that you haven't backed up get DiskWarrior as this has saved me from loosing my hair a few years back when my HDD crashed.

if you do get this, be sure to be picky on the things you keep as it will not always work and it sounds like your hard drive is on it's last legs. Imagine a door slowly closing everytime it spins up. -

Bought recently a new macbook pro 13 inch with Retina display with 120 GB flash drive.
Connected a non-apple CD drive to my macbook and after that started receiving this message: "Because a USB device was drawing too much power from your computer, one or more of your USB devices have been disabled."
initially I was receiving this message after I switch on my macbook but now after every 30 seconds this message pops up although I never connected anything to my macbook through its USB ports.
Will highly appreciate for your help on how to get rid of this problem.

Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC. -
When I plug in my son's iPad I get this message "Because a USB device was drawing too much power from your computer, one or more of your USB devices have been disabled." I only have one charger for this iPad all my other chargers are for iPhone 4s. I have pluggerd it in different outlets around the house and the iPad will not charge. When I plugged it on my lap top to back it up it gave me the warning message. HELP!!
I have the same problem on my Air. The message first came up while my iPhone was connected to it for some time. Since then, it pops up ALL THE TIME, whithout anything being connected to the USB port, at what appear to be random intervals that vary between about one hour and a few seconds. I have tried resetting the SMC and the PRAM, but no results. A quick search revealed that thousands of users are facing this problem, but Apple has yet to provide a solution. Please help!

Here is the total error message:

Now in contrast to every other thread on this i get this error message eveytime i connect my soundcard (interface). Not when i start up the mac or anything, just when i connect the sound card. (the soundcard does not have its own power source but note that this has never happened before and i have had this soundcard for about a year!)
It deactivates so i cannot use it.
I have tried:
Connecting the soundcard to my mothers mac -> it worked!
Connecting an external harddrive to my mac -> it worked!
so basically, i can't be the soundcard or the cable and it cannot be the mac USB port?
I don't know what to do! i really need this to work! anyone got an idea??Hi, ryankeenanrk.

I am getting this error since recently when I am using my MBP:

The 'funny' thing: there is no USB device attached to the computer (only power and monitor cables).
Why is this happening and what could I do about it?

Am trying to charge my original iPhone and both the wall charger as well as computer (mac) do not seem to allow it to charge. When I plug into my computer, I get an error message that says:

When I press the power button on the phone, I get the low battery icon on the screen (red bar showing it needs to be plugged into a power source).
