Export to PDF Issue (SSRS 2012 with Integration SharePoint 2013)
Problem Description: We have an operational report that returns around 43,000 records, based on a stored procedure. The Stored Procedure itself runs pretty quickly (under ~15 seconds). The report renders in 20 seconds.
However, we get an error like “Sorry, something went wrong” (see below) approximately 2 minutes after we choose/select the PDF as a rendering extension for export. The download of the .PDF never starts.
Sorry, something went wrong

Things Also Done
1) I also tried exporting the report through excel and found no issues (it exports successfully and no issue when i open the file). The size of the exported excel (.xlsx) is 4.28MB. The timerendering value for export to excel is approx. 77 seconds.
2) I also tried creating email subscription (PDF as the rendering format) for that report and it works successfully. The size of the attached PDF from the email is approx. 1.43 MB. I can also open that PDF file with no issue. And the size of the email with
the attached PDF file is approx. 1.48 MB.
That all said, we would like to seek for your assistance to determine what is causing the failure of exporting the report to PDF issue directly from the reporting site. (Let me remind you that the email subscription for the same report with attached
PDF works with no issue)Hi roel2000,
According to your description, you get error when exporting the report into PDF. It works properly when exporting in excel or PDF format within E-mail subscription. Right?
In Reporting Services, the Excel and MHTML(e-mail subscription) render extensions are soft page break renderers. The PDF render extension is hard page break renderer. It has different render behavior between these two kind of renders. This might cause the
error. Since we are not clear about your report structure, please refer to rules in the link below and do the troubleshooting.
Rendering Behaviors (Report Builder and SSRS)
If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

Hello,
I wish to add a PDF that opens automatic with DVD@ccess.
I've made a menu with only text and a back button, in the options pane I've added a url in the @ccess pane:
file:///CINDERELLA/techsheet/cinderella.pdf
My disk name: CINDERELLA
The DVD folder is CINDERELLA and contains the _TS folders + "techsheet" folder
the pdf file: cinderella.pdf
It doesn't work in the simulate or in DVD Player after a build....Do a quick search for DVD@ccess there are many issues and possible workarounds,

Usually the easiest way is just to make a menu saying there is content in a DVD-ROM folder on the DVD that people can browse to and open -
Hi,
I have created a report in navision where it is :
1) Saved and mailed in pdf format : For this i have used the location of filedirectory as TEMPORARYPATH.
2) Save as pdf : where i have used codeunit 412 to save the report on user desired location.
Now the problem faced by me is :
a) If, I run it on local system the report runs fine, i.e. the pdf is mailed to desired recipient as well the file is saved on the location where i want it to be saved.
b) Same happens when i run it on the server.
c) But when i run it on citrix server i am not able to mail neither i the file is saved .
We use navision 5.0 version and our client accesses navision through citrix.
Please help in this issue.
Regards
Snehpreet KaurHi,
I would check with the vendor of the application that is giving you trouble or with the Citrix folks.

From Word 2010, when printing to the Adobe PDF printer (Acrobat 10.1.6), some users are experiencing an issue where the log file is created but the PDF document is not. THe log file contains two lines:
THe operation COmpleted successfully
Pipe:\\.\pipe\PMtoDistiller_ID_165:Microsoft Word - Test
I can print to file, create a PS file, and successfully create the PDF using Distiller.
Acrotray.exe seems to be running on the machine.
Has anyone seen this before? What would cause it?
Thanks.I appologize I wrote Adobe reader, but it's adobe standard 6.0. And like a I
said I can create PDF's normally in all other situations and programs except for this one -
E-mail of PDF issue TLINE structure but SOLISTI1 needed
Hi,
So far I have done the following. I have prepared a SMARTFORM and an ABAP. My ABAP calls the Smartform and gives the data to the function module CONVERT_OTF. This function creates a PDF file from the Smartform data. The output of "CONVERT_OTF" is a table with the format of structure TLINE. In a first step I save these data into a PDF file with the function module "GUI_DOWNLOAD".
Now the issue.
In the second step I am trying to send the output with the function SO_DOCUMENT_SEND_API1. The function is recommended by SAP for release 6.4 instead of the former function "SO_NEW_DOCUMENT_ATT_SEND_API1".
The attachment must be delivered either with the structure SOLISTI1 or SOLIX to be sent with the e-mail function SO_DOCUMENT_SEND_API1. I have tried to put my data with structure TLINE into the function. In these case I get short dumps. If I put the output of the function CONVERT_OTF in a table with the format SOLISTI1 instead of a table with structure TLINE a PDF file is still created and also send out with the e-mail function, but the file cant be opened anymore. Acrobat delivers an error message that the file is damaged.
I have tried to convert the file with structure TLINE in a hexadecimal file with structure SOLIX. For this purpose I used the function TABLE_COMPRESS. This worked fine. But the file which has been sent by the e-mail was still damaged. Even if I have downloaded the file I got the message that the file was damaged.
Are there any other suggestions how the attachment could be sent instead of using the function SO_DOCUMENT_SEND_API1? Is there a function available, which could be used to sent attachments with structure TLINE? Or are there any suggestions, how I can convert my smartform output in a SOLIX or SOLISTI1 structure?
Thank you and best regards

Print to PDF issues after 11.0.03 Update
Hello,
Installed on our site we have Adobe Reader XI as part of out basic build (ie. every PC has it) and Adobe Acrobat X Pro (as part of the CS5.5 Master Collection) for those users that request it (meaning that we have both versions installed side by side on some PC's). During our most recent update cycle we upgraded Adobe Reader XI to the latest 11.0.03 update which has seemed to upset our PC's that have Acrobat X Pro installed on them.
It appears that the 'Adobe PDF' printer that is installed by Acrobat X Pro no longer works, and trying to print to it gives the following error; "Windows cannot print due to a problem with the current printer setup". To try and see if it would resolve the issue I pushed out the 10.1.7 Acrobat update to a small number of test machines but it hasn't made any difference.
Is this a known issue? Any ideas on how to resolve it or if a fix is coming up?
Thanks, Dave.Please try following steps:
1. Open Reader.
2. Go to Edit -> Preferences.
3. Select category - Enhanced (Security)
4, Uncheck "Enable Protected Mode at Start up" option.

ECC6.0 - PDF issue - Junk Character output after Upgrade from 4.7c
Hi All,
I am working in Uprgade project(from 4.7c Non-unicode system to ECC6.0 unicode system).
We are facing PDF output issue in ECC6.0 that means we are getting junk character output(screenshot is attached for your reference).
In 4.7c , we have stroed the OTF data in table after generated from smartform as we should not get different output in future. Whenever we need output of the same then we are getting the OTF data from that table and we will generate pdf through "Convert_otf" function module. This logic is working fine in 4.7c.
In ECC6.0 ,the same logic is not working as system is unicode sytem and we are getting junk character output.
As per my old upgrade project experience , i have used the below piece of code for solve this junk character issue but still I am facing the same issue.
Kindly note that in my old upgrade project i have regenerated the OTF data in ECC6.0 and used the below piece of code then I got correct output but here I have to use the old OTF data (from table) which was generated in 4.7c.
Please any one can give solution for this issue.

Edited by: Anandakumar.K on Oct 25, 2011 12:54 PMHi,
as you can see in SAP notes 842767 and 1349413, spool data cannot be converted properly for all types in a Unicode conversion.
This might be possible if you have English (US7ASCII) characters only, but with Chinese characters I do not think that a small piece of code can do it ...
Hence I think you need to recreate the data on the Unicode system ...
Best regards,

Pdf issue with internal links in Safari
Hello,
I am creating a web site that has 80 or so pdf's available to download. They each contain a series of 20 or so speeches. To make navigation easier I have created a new page in Open Office that is an index to each pdf, with it's page number as an internal link to the correct page. This is what I did:
1. Open each pdf in Preview and inserted a blank page (page 2), and saved the pdf. This gives me the correct page numbering for when I put in the real index.
2. Noting the start of each speech page number, I created an idex page in Open Office.
3. I saved the index as a pdf.
4. I opened the origional pdf and the new pdf index.
5. I deleted the blank page and then dragged the new index page across and made sure it was the same page position - page 2.
6. I then used the link too in Previewl to drag a link box over the page number in the index and then chose the correct page number to set as the target via Previews inspector.
7. Saved the pdf and opened and tested - everything worked fine.
The problem comes when I upload the pdfs and test the site with safari. When I open the pdf in the default safari window, the links are all out by one page i.e. if i click on page number 30 from the index, I go to the next page - page 31. If I hover the mouse at the bottom of the page and bring up the open in Preview icon and do so, the index links to the pages work fine???? I have tried with Explorer under bootcamp and the default window that opens for the pdf shows the same issue - it's out by one page.
Thanks in advance
nige.Hi...
Try this...
Go to /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Move the Adobe PDF Browser plugin (or just PDF Browser plugin) to the Trash.
See if that makes a difference. -
I have been trying to get videos to play in an interactive PDF exported from InDesign CS6 and CS5 to no avail. I have no problem doing this from CS3 with the old single export dialogue. With CS6 and CS5 I just get a charcoal gray box. I am trying to get it to play on page load with no controller. Even if I set it to have a controller I get no playback. If I don’t set it to play on page load it actually shows my poster and tells me to “click to activate” but upon clicking it goes to the charcoal box.
I have tried converting to different file types and codecs but nothing works. I have tried the original .mov, .mp4 rendered with H.264, F4V rendered with H.264, FLV rendered as On2 VP6. Nothing.
While I can do this on CS3 I shouldn’t have to. This should be pretty standard stuff. I am trying to figure out the proper system for everyone in the office to be able to embed video in presentations while working on CS6. These are intended for overhead projections. Any advise would be appreciated.Well, I think I can narrow this to codec and file type. I have been working with videos given to me by my department and using Adobe Media Encoder to try variations. I finally tried a separate .mov video that I had kicking around on my personal server and it worked fine immediately.
My video is .mov with codecs MPEG-4 Video, Linear PCM. InDesign did give me the warning about it not being compatable with Flash. It can't give me a preview and it can't grab a poster image form the frames. It plays fine in Acrobat though. It is a small video: 6MB and at 480x480.
The .mov that I was given by the department is 1024x768 AAC, H.264. and 44.2MB. InDesign gives me no warning on this one and it can even grab a poster image from the frames but in Acrobat I get nothing. Same goes for all the variations I have made in Encoder.
So it seems it may be a file size, type, or codec issue. I do need to figure it out so I can recommend render settings to the team. -
InDesign CS6 PDF Issue: Unsearchable PDF document
Hello all,
I have an issue that I've exhausted with days of Google searches. I have a text catalog created with ID CS6. Sections were PDF documents given to me from our engineering department. The book was created, exported and all went well until I found out that when I try to copy and paste the text into Microsoft Word or Note Pad, I get a lot of small boxes in place of the letters. When I try to search the text in Adobe Reader, I can't find words which I can see are there.
This is the first catalog I've created in CS6. Previous catalogs created in the exact same manner in CS4 & CS2 do not have this issue. I thought it could have been the infamous Arial Narrow font issue and researched that to death.
Any ideas would be most helpful. This is a 1300 page catalog that customers cannot search.1. LAUNCH Adobe Acrobat
2. Using the File menu, OPEN the corrupted document. (I don't know what to do if you're not even able to open the file. Sorry!)
3. (VERIFY that Acrobat can't search the document, in case you haven't done so, just to avoid unnecessary work.)
4. EXPORT: Once the document is open, use the File menu again, and choose EXPORT / IMAGE / PNG. Your corrupted pdf will be saved as a series of images with the file extension ".png", one for each page of the pdf document. Don't worry, they will be numbered automatically by Acrobat, and they aren't terribly large. My document was 200 pages long, so I got 200 little image files in .png format. The export may take a couple of minutes. You won't get any further signals from Adobe to tell you it's done--just go look in the directory that contains the original and see if it made png files with names like:
chemistryBook_Page_001.png
chemistryBook_Page_002.png
5. COLLECT: Once you have the image files, collect them all by cut and paste into their own directory.
6. OCR: Under the Document menu, choose OCR TEXT RECOGNITION / RECOGNIZE TEXT IN MULTIPLE FILES USING OCR
7. ADD FILES: You will be shown a dialog box with the title "Paper Capture Multiple Files" with the subtitle "Run OCR on a set of images. There is a button that says "Add Files". Click this button, choose ADD FOLDERS, and browse to the folder that contains your png files. Highlight that file, click OK. The files will then appear within this dialog box. Make sure that the files are in the proper order, or you will be sad. Click OK.
8. CHOOSE OUTPUT OPTIONS: Now you will get a dialog box entitled "Output Options". You have several choices to make here:
TARGET FOLDER: Click "Specific Folder", then Browse to your folder full of images, click "Make New Folder", name the folder (something like "CHEMISTRYBOOKIMAGEFILES" so you can find it easily and know what is in it, click OK.
FILE NAMING: Click "Keep Original File Names". This will preserve Acrobat's automatic numbering of your files--you will need that to get the page ordering right! UNcheck "Overwrite existing files" just to avoid a terrible mishap, unless you are very pressed for disc space or unless this is your 5th time attempting to follow these instructions and you've already got 'way too many duplicates of the output files. If you have the disc space, just make new empty folder for your 6th try.
OUTPUT FORMAT: Select "Save File(s) as Adobe PDF. Click OK.
Now wait for Adobe to execute optical character recognition on the image files. Its output will be one little pdf file for each little image file that it OCR's.
9. COLLATE THE FILES INTO ONE: Under the File menu, select COMBINE / MERGE FILES INTO A SINGLE PDF. This step is optional; maybe you wanted a bunch of little files, or maybe you wanted to divide your enormous original document into 2 or 3 more manageable documents. To divide the file, just make a separate directory for the png files you want in each smaller final document, and repeat steps 6 through 9 for each directory. BE CAREFUL WITH NAMING! Make sure you choose a unique name, because if you got something wrong, you will want to be able to go back to your original corrupted pdf and try again. If your original is named "CHEMISTRY.PDF", please remember to name this new file something like "CHEMISTRY-FIXED.PDF".
If you really despise pdf, you can try using different output formats in Step 8. I do hate pdf, but I chose pdf for two reasons: one is that I had more confidence that that pdf would retain important features like charts and graphs and labeled photos in my document. The other is that I was so so so so SO tired of doing all this pdf crap instead of the chemistry work that I'd gotten the ebook to help me with that I didn't want to do anything fancy with file formats at this point. Let me know if you try output to rtf or ascii and get good results.
10. TEST: Open the merged document(s) in all of the pdf readers and web browsers you will want to use with it, and try searching with it. Use your file browser and try to search for text in the directory with a word you know the file contains. Searchable? Good job, you're done, cheers!
Not searchable? Oh noes! Check that you opened the correct document (maybe you opened the original by mistake). Try the entire process again. If that doesn't help, try the entire process again, but output to plain text this time. My apologies, but, being a complete newbie myself, I have no further advice on this topic.
NB! My output PDF is of rather low quality. It looks like it was literally scanned from a 10th-iteration paper copy. Don't know how to fix that, after the fact or somewhere in the above process. It's good enough, so I'm just dealing with the shakey blurriness. I seem to remember somewhere that I could choose a high quality output, but, again, I didn't want to do anything fancy with vectors and rostering and layers and other terms that I don't know before I verified that I could do something basic and get back to chemistry asap. -
Indesign CS6 - 8.0 on iMac 10.9.1, I have a few issues that may be connected:
1. My computer shuts down goes to a black screen then restarts on its own.
2. My InDesign will crash when I am working and there doesn't seem to be a pattern it just happens sometimes.
3. I have an InDesign file that all of a sudden now takes 30-40mins to PDF 50 pages, I think there may be an issue with fonts but I am not sure, none of the other files take this long.Thank you so much for responding Bob, I tried to update but when I tired I get a message "Contact Administrator if you wish to apply updates on your machine, Updates have been suppressed by the administrator...". I actually have admin rights and I called in my IT guy, he could not get it to update. The Application Manager says I have all current updates. Am I suppoes to update using "AdobePatchInstaller"? Is there a manual way?

Writable PDF Issues on MAC Platform - HELP!!
Is this normal for writable PDFs to not function correctly on MACS? I am not having any problems on my PC or on different PC browsers. After testing my form on a MAC, I found many problems. Date and numerical fields are not working. My date doesn't come up and users can enter anything in the numerical fields. My reset button only cleared the checkboxes, but only sometimes. The tab order is also not functioning correctly.
Do I need to do something different for MAC's? Please HELP!! Everything works fine on PC's. I work for UC Santa Cruz and most of our campus uses MAC's.
I was trying to get away from using excel for forms, due to all of the issues that we have been having do to workstation and printer setups etc.
Platform Issues - MAC
Browser Safari - 2.0.1
Appreciate any help offered...
Thanks,
Rebecca HuthThank you Chris!!!
Yes, I was using the built in functionality.
The Mac I was testing on did not have Adobe Reader on it. I was able to hunt down another Mac where I could install Adobe Reader. I wasn't able to install anything on the Mac that I used yesterday. My form works as it should.
Thank you for getting back in touch with me so soon. I just started intorducing writable pdfs for our departments and I am very happy that it works across differnt platfroms as I thought it would.
Thanks again...=)
Cheers for Chris!! -
Frame 9/Acrobat 9 PDF issues on Windows 7
Howdy:
I'm using Frame 9 and Acrobat 9 Pro on 64-bit Windows 7, and encountering what appears to be a bug.
When I initially open Frame and attempt to Save As PDF, I get the following error message:
"When you create a PostScript file you must rely on system fonts and use document fonts. Please go to the printer properties, "Adobe PDF Settings" page and turn OFF the option "Rely on system fonts only; do not use document fonts."
The problem: that setting isn't turned /on/, either in Frame or in the Adobe PDF printing preferences. So Frame is basically telling me to turn off a setting that isn't actually turned on in the first place.
This problem has persisted through a complete reinstallation of both Frame and Acrobat. The only way to get it to stop happening is by /activating/ the "Rely on system fonts only" setting, applying that setting, then going back in and deactivating it. Even then, the situation crops up as soon as I exit Frame and restart it.
Rgds,
AshtonOn Win7 x64 with FM8 and Acrobat 9 Pro, this resolved the issue for me:
1. Click the Start menu, and then click Devices and Printers
2. Right-click the Adobe PDF printer, then click Printing Preferences, and then deselect Rely on system fonts only; do not use document fonts
3. Click OK
4. Right-click the Adobe PDF printer, then click Printer Properties, then click the Advanced tab, and then click Printing Defaults
5. On the Adobe PDF Settings tab, deselect Rely on system fonts only; do not use document fonts, and then click OK.
6. On the Adobe PDF Properties dialog, click OK

i have embed the pdf in html page and displaying popup over the pdf but its going behind in IE and works fine in chrome and firefox.( ihave used all css properties like z-index and different jquery popup and plugins but it not worked in IE).
Thanks for the pointers. I havent had the chance to debug a lot. but after seeing your comment it does look like some kind of caching or session related issue. So if you open a completely new IE browser window then the pdf opens up fine but not from the same window (in a new tab) ? Unfortunately we have a the pdf in a iframe in our portal and a link to open the pdf in a new window !!

Hi all,
I am experiencing an error when trying to add hypertext to my FM Book. In the first iteration of this book, I had successfully added hypertext as to "click" and bring up a different page of the book, a page being a FM Document.
Now, I have added an addendum. When I added the Addendum to the table of contents, I intiated a hypertext navigaion as before, stating to navigate to the Addendum. However, when I export the Book to PDF, "Addendum" in the ToC is clickable, however, it does not navigate to the page.
I have checked and double checked everything. I even tried changing an existing, working, hyperlink, then changing it back exactly to how it was. After these changes (and change back) were made, the same thing occured: Clickable, but does not navigate in PDF.
FM, however, does retain the hyperlink addresses in the FM Book document. But the hyperlinks are not retained in any PDF export.
I can only concur that there is some sort of error when saving documents in FM. I have tried reinstalling FM, but to no avail.
Has anyone else experienced this issue?
Any suggestions as to where to continue troubleshooting this issue?
**Also, when I do [CTRL]+[ALT] and click on the new "Addendum" hyperlink in FM, it brings me to the Glossary even though it states "Addendum." ... "Glossary," which is the link I changed then changed back, goes to the Glossary....however, does not go anywhere in the PDF.> Now, I have added an addendum.
Is this a component file of the .book, or something in such a file?
> I intiated a hypertext navigaion as before ...
And how was that done?
Simple cross-references in Frame automatically become hyperlinks in the PDF, when the link and target are in the same PDF.
If you are using Hypertext Markers, you're doing it the hard way, unless the Addendum is an external PDF. Getting that to work is bt trickier.
