AIFF 48k 16bit audio files still silent in FCE   help!

(I posted this in an "answered" string, so I thought I'd start a new one to hopefully finally get this resolved.)
Hello,
I've been struggling on and off with this for a week now...(I'm a newbie with this software, but have learned a lot). I need advice. I created a simple video using iMovie (no camera footage), and exported it. I then imported it into Final Cut Express to edit, mix and add music. I use MOTU Digital Performer as my music production software, and exported the music to an AIFF file, 48khz, 16 bit files. The little "speaker" play buttons are turned on, the video is working fine, but no music.
Question 1: I tried switching my Mac's Sound Output to the internal speakers, and the *music PLAYS through the Mac's speaker*. When I switch it back to my recording input/output device, nothing. I use this i/o device for everything, and never had a problem. It's a Lexicon I-Onix U82s (usb). Are there known conflict or incompatibilities? Where might I look those up?
2. In many places, I have read that the resolution of the audio file has to match the resolution setting for the sequence. I can not find anywhere that shows you what your resolution settings are. It doesn't tell you in the manual, and I can't find any explanation either on Apple's site, nor the forum. (I know that is probably so simple, it's not a problem for most people:)
Thanks for any input.
Marc

Thanks so much Tom...even though I'm disappointed in that fact. If I want to create a Quicktime video with the soundtrack, what would you recommend I do (that's relatively easy ?

  • Trashed audio files still playing in presentation

In a keynote presentation audio files were trashed (I thought) by dragging from the slide to trash. Audio file disappeared from the slide.  Problem is the file still plays.  Any ideas how to find it so that it can be deleted properly.  (Lion and intel) Help appreciated.

    What IS the audio?

  • Audio file not found. Please help restore??

Arrgh! Hopefully someone can help me! A section of recording has gone missing from my podcast made in Garageband 3 and I have no idea how to get it back!
The podcast was intact when I saved and closed down for the night, then in the morning when I opened the file, a message box popped up saying 'Audio file "Recording#586.aif" not found! It gave me the option to search for it, which I did, but nothing came up.
I've tried searching my computer and servers, but nothing again.
I have no idea how this could have happened! The strand of lost recording is in the middle of the podcast and the rest of the file is unaffected. Unfortunately, the strand was recorded separate to the preceding and following strands, so I can't recover the missing file by extending out the other strands. ****.
If anyone has any suggestions or can offer any help, I'd be super grateful!
    Thanks

Ah okay, that's handy to know, thanks. But that shouldn't affect the original files that I'm salvaging, right?
I'm able to retrieve the unedited GB project files using FileSalvage, but that end bit of the recording is always missing. Even though these are the original files and nothing's been edited or chopped away.
The only thing that I can think might have caused this mysterious disappearance is that the segment that's gone missing is the very end bit of the project, and the recording only stopped because GB automatically stopped it. Due to lack of space or recording capacity or something. Maybe there wasn't enough memory or something to conserve that final segment. I don't really know...

  • Error when saving audio file

I am having an issue when trying to save an audio file.  Looking for some help on what might be causing the problem.  With the audio file highlighted, I select Save As and title the file.  When I hit OK, this error comes up..The file is in use by another application and cannot be overwritten.  I am saving the file name as something new so it is not trying to overwrite a file with the same name.  Also there is not another Audition opened in the background or any other programs that could cause "another application" error.  Thanks for your help.

Thank you for the reply.  Here is what I determined.  Sorry I couldn't answer all your questions.  I'm don't know everything about computers and networks, just enough to be dangerous.
File length doesn't make a difference (try save a file of only a few samples) I tried record length of a few seconds to five minutes and it happens on all different file lengths.
You have not had this issue with Adobe Audition 2.0 and Cool Edit Professional 2000, it has never worked in Audition CS5.5 We have one computer that has Audition 2.0 and have no problems with that.  Previously used CoolEdit and no problems with that either.
You  can save the file to the local workstation drive and then copy it using  Windows Explorer to the network share with no issues.  Saving to the local computers hard drive works everytime and then I am able to copy that file to the desired network drive.
You are using Windows Storage Server 2003 in a Raid 10 array for your storage server. Sorry do not know
Active Directory and the workstations have the proper permissions to read and write to the network shares.  Yes
The workstations running Adobe Audition CS5.5 are running Windows 7 Profession 32bit and have Active Directory Login.  Yes.  They are Windows 7 32 bit.  Not sure about Active Directory Login
You are able to save to the local drive and copy the file to the same network share via Windows Explorer.  Yes
Toggling the saving of Metadata and Markers doesn't make a difference.  Sorry do not know
You are able to save as other formats (try AIFF, MP3, and a SESX session). Able to save MP3's to the notwork drive.  only .wav are having issues
Running Audition as Administrator makes no difference.  No difference
Running Audition in XP compatibility mode makes no difference.  Tried that and still had same issues
Turning off the writing of .pkf files doesn't make a difference.  Sorry not sure how to do that
I hope this helps and I apologize for not being able to answer all your questions.
    Best regards

  • Location of audio files and sessions

    Hi,
This seems like such a basic question, but I can't figure out how to do this. I've been a Pro Tools user for the past several years, but I'm recently getting into Logic as well. I have 2 internal drives, one for my system files, and one for audio files/sessions. However, when I first installed Logic, it defaulted all the files to be saved onto my main hard drive (in Music\Logic). I want all of these files to be saved to my second drive, which contains all of my audio files. How do I change the location that these go into automatically? For now, I just dragged that folder over to my second hard drive and open the sessions off of that...but every time I create a new session, it tries to save it into that folder on the main drive. I have to manually browse to my second hard drive. I want it to automatically come up on my new path. How do I do this? Thanks for the help.

OK, so I'm a bit confused. I think I may have messed some things up. I dragged my Logic folder to my second hard drive as that's where I want everything stored. One of the sessions is in process still, and I worked on it some today. I opened it from the folder on the second drive however, to assure that everything would be saved to that path when I saved it. However, for that session, when I go to project settings, recording, core audio recording folder....it has the ORIGINAL location (the primary hard drive). Are all the audio files still being stored to the original drive? All I want to do is change the default setting to be on my secondary drive and all sessions/audio data go to a Logic folder on that drive.

  • Combining audio files

Is there a way in Automator (or some other OSX app) to combine 2 or more audio files into 1? What I imagine in Automator is to set up a list of mp3, wav, aiff or other audio files, and then have the content of one audio file added to the end of the other audio file, practically turning a whole playlist into one single file? Oughta be possible ...

perhaps this (rather old) read could provide a workaround.

  • URGENT Strange problem with no audio files playing back in arrange

Anyone ever have something in Logic Pro X (newest .1 update, auto updated on me but seems fine otherwise) where playback of audio just stops? Like, meters still move for automation, audio files still remain in place, but nothing is even metering? Another alternative of this project (which i dont' want to use) works, and this just sorta stopped playing back. nothing i can think that triggered it. I can start up a new instrument and it plays back and records just fine. All of my existing audio just won't play at all.
I tried changing my interface and back in preferences, I've restarted both program and machine, but just this one alternative of this project (the current and most important of course) just won't play back audio. It even plays back in the wave editor window, just not in the sequence.

  • How to get the length of a audio file without play it ?

Now I know a method to get the length of a audio file by play it:
1 Create a Player, and add a ControllerListener
    2.Start the Player
3.In the ControllerListener's controllerUpdate method, use getMediaTime() by receiving a EndOfMediaEvent
However I think this method is not convenience, if I don't want to play it how I can get the length of the audio file?
Is anyone can help me?Really thanks a lot !

    I got the answer here:

I tried getDuration() before, but it always return a same time, I think maybe I didn't realize the player.

  • I think someone has placed a malicious code Quick Time audio file on my Mac

I think someone has placed a malicious code audio file in a message and now I constantly hear a audio track of “hands clapping” constantly on my Mac – how do I get rid of this file or locate it so I can delete it please? It just plays on its own …. Totally unpredictable when it plays not at even or predictable times … I have searched in spotlight and it is the QuickTime ‘applause’ audio file that plays … can someone help? This is playing over everything while I’m trying to work...

    Hi Tim,
"This is playing over everything while I’m trying to work..."
It's just your computers way of telling you you are doing a great job!
Joking aside, have you tried searching for the file? Have you used iMovie lately as I believe there is an applause file as one of the sound effects. This may be stuck playing in a loop.
Also, have you checked through your emails, to see if the attachment might exist in one of your emails?
I did also want to let you know that this is the Feedback About Discussions forum and your question would be more appropriately posted in either the QuickTime or Using Mac OS 10.5 Leopard forum. If you are having difficulty finding these forums read the top header to this forum for info about how to find correct forums.

edit: I see, after rereading your topic that you say you already searched for the file.

  • Audio distortion post Build DVD - Please help!

Hi all .. I have edited a wedding video in Premiero Pro and exported my AVI files with Normalised Audio Levels. I imported the AVI files into Encore CS2 and have created my DVD menu. I have also imported high quality mp3 and wav files to use as menu soundtracks. When I preview the DVD, everything sounds fine however when the DVD is created and I playback on my home theatre, the musical soundtracks are distorted! I have tried building a new DVD with audio dolby digital at 256kbps but audio is still distorted.
    Please help!

Disregard my last question Ruud, I've exported audio from Premiere, Normalised to -6db in good old Cool Edit 2000 and imported in Encore .. much better results. Thanks :)

  • It's 2013 and I want to convert AIFF audio files to MP3s

It’s 2013 and I want to convert .AIFF audio files to .MP3 files on my Mac.
I created some sound files as .MOVs for a band’s website but that format doesn’t work for some Windows OS users who refuse to fetch a QuickTime plugin for their Explorer or Firefox internet browser…("don’t make them think; it either works or it doesn’t.")
I have been told that MP3 audio files are still the most common audio files on the web and I want the band’s music to be in the most-accessible format.
    Thanks,
    Ron
Also, this is my first Apple Support question and I would appreciate being pointed to the most appropriate forum(s).

Thanks, Joe, that was very useful!
For other people with my problem I should add some of the missing puzzle pieces —
    1) A while ago I loaded the songs from the band’s CD onto a previous, now dead, Mac laptop (with a previous Mac OS) and used QuickTime 7 to create down-sampled (and smaller) .mov files. Then I deleted the original .aif files from that computer.
    2) Now (back to the present) I wanted the .aif audio files on my new computer to convert them, but the computer doesn’t have a CD/DVD drive. My solution was to use my partner’s iMac.
    3) I inserted the CD into the iMac’s drive, clicked "no" to iTunes’ dialog asking if I wanted to import them, created a folder on the desktop, then opened the CD folder on the desktop and copied the songs into the newly-created folder.
    4) I copied the new .aif files to a thumbdrive then deleted the .aifs from the iMac.
    5) I put the copied thumbdrive .aif songs onto my MacBook Pro Retina (where I had changed iTunes Preferences to MP3) then I 'dropped' the sound file icons onto the iTunes icon in the dock.
    5) In iTunes I right-clicked on the songs and chose "Create MP3 Version".
    6) Next, I right-clicked on the MP3s in iTunes and chose "Show in Finder". This opened another folder (~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Music/Unknown Artist/Unknown Album/), revealing the MP3s.
    7) I created duplicates of the MP3s and moved them to my band's media folder (and will put them on the website after renaming them and editing their webpage for the new audio filenames).
    8) Finally, I will delete the .aif and .mp3 songs from my iTunes, using iTunes' interface to ensure it doesn’t get confused.
Sheesh. but I’m still happy to not have a CD/DVD drive on my MacBook Pro. I very rarely use CDs and a drive on the laptop would add bulk and weight while being mostly useless.

  • Audio File Missing but Still works in timeline?

    Hi,
I was wondering if I could get some help on finding or putting my audio files back online. The music plays in the timeline but it shows as offline? I can't find the files? It is offline and still works?? I can't find the files to put the music back online! If anyone could help me with this that would be great!
    Thanks,
    Todd

Are you sure the actual file is offline and not the thumbnail cache? If you double click it does it open in your viewer?

  • Can i convert AIFF audio file into an MP3 file please?

Can i convert AIFF audio file into an MP3 file please? I will be doing this on an imac 2008 model. thank you for help!

Since this is the Logic forum and you may be working in Logic, you dont even need iTunes. To convert Aiff to MP3:
    1 - Go to the Bin>Audio Files
2 - Select the Audio File you want to convert ( and not a region or edit of it)
3 - Go to Audio File next to the Link icon ( Audio - Edit - View ) and down the menu to Copy/Convert.. gives lots of options

    (hope that also helps)

  • My music library is too large for my iPad.  If I use the cloud, will I still be able to access audio files or does it all end up having to be saved on my iPad?  In other words...am I limited to the space on my iPad memory?

Do I still need to have enough space on my iPad for my whole music library?  Seems like I must be missing something...why would I want to be limited by the memory space on my mobile device?  Is there another way to share audio files between my computer and my iPad other than iTunes?

It depends on whihch IPad you purchased. The 16GB, the 32GB, or the 64GB for storage.
Tap Settings > General > About. You'll see Capacity in the list.
