AIM camera is black when connected to iChat

iMac G5 running osX.4.3
isight
ichat (3.1)
I am trying to do a one way chat to a buddy on AIM (pc - xp pro) and the camera says its connected but I just get a black screen. I am able to connect from one mac to another and view the video through ichat - i just can't seem to connect ichat to aim. I have tried trillian pro on the PC and that works momentarily and then crashes - just the video portion - the audio will continue to operate. I would really just like to get one or the other connected so the pc can view the video from the isight on the mac. Thanks

Ok, I think I had checked all of those options originally. I have tuned the audio/video however on the pc, however, the pc is not using a camera - only trying to view the mac user. The preview on the mac is visible and says its connected, appears to be fine. Its the incoming video on the pc that is black (also says its connecting and then connected but not picture). I was under the impression that both users did not need a camera, the mac user just wouldn't be able to view the pc user, just a one way video connection - is this not correct?
There might be something I am missing, I am on XP but I don't have a "security center" under the control panel so I can't figure out how to check the sp2 settings, although I am almost positive that I don't have sp2 patch on the pc, there was a conflict with that and some programs at work. Would this make a difference?
I have another firewall on the computer but this has been temporarily turned off as I was seeing if that was the issue.

  • HP2311x Goes blank/black when connected to my hp Pavilion HPE

Last month, my monitor started to go blank periodically and with increasing frequency. The system setup is:
Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit)
    GeForce GT 530 video card
    8 Gb RAM
    Intel Core i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40 GHz
    I have:
    Cleaned the video card
Upgraded to the lastest GeForce driver
    Updated the monitor driver
    Factory reset the monitor
Changed the connector wire from DVI to HDMI
Connected another monitor to the HP Pavilion (works fine)
Connected the HP 2311x monitor to my Chromebook using HDMI (works fine)
Connected the monitor to my son's laptop (works fine)
The only time that the monitor goes blank/black periodically is when it is connected to the HP Pavilion HPE. A new monitor may solve the problem but as the monitor works with other computers I do not think that it is dead yet.
From the actions of the monitor it seems to switch off and then back on again.
Any ideas as to what to do to fix the issue?

  • Mac Pro Running Windows XP in Bootcamp with AIM 6.5 Can't Connect to iChat

I'm running Windows XP on my Mac Pro under Bootcamp. The Windows firewall is turned off (I'm running McAfee, and using it's firewall).
I am trying to talk to a friend who is using iChat on a Mac - I am using AIM 6.5 on my Mac running Windows. The connection fails as soon as iChat attempts to answer.
    Mac OS 10.4.10
    Bootcamp 1.4 (beta)
    Windows XP
    McAfee 7.2
    iChat 3.1.8
    Airport Express
I have set up McAfee to allow TCP and UDP connections over ports 2869 (TCP) and 1900 (UDP).
I have also disabled McAfee, and tried to use the Windows firewall settings discussed frequently in this forum (with appropriate exceptions). This also fails.
I have also tried to doing this under my Mac OS X bootup running PARALLELS. This worked once, but I have not been able to repeat it (McAfee was running when it worked).
iChat works great on my Mac under OS X. This is only a problem in Windows XP under Bootcamp.
I cannot connect to appleu3test01 either (under Bootcamp with XP). I can connect to appleu3test01 no problem running iChat on my Mac.
Might this be a Bootcamp related problem? Can anyone else test this for me (i.e. can someone try to use AIM 6.5 from Windows XP under Bootcamp)???
    Thanks!

    Hi Ralph,
{quote}If the Firewall was On I would ask if you had set it up as an Exception
    http://www.ralphjohnsuk.dsl.pipex.com/page12.html#_Service{quote}
Yes, this is what I meant by,
    {quote}I have also disabled McAfee, and tried to use the Windows firewall settings discussed frequently in this forum (with appropriate exceptions). This also fails.{quote}
I've noticed that you've posted solutions frequently in this forum. I read your posts, and visited your website. Its great information ... thanks for posting it! However, it didn't help me to resolve this particular problem.
    You asked,
    {quote}The question now becomes have you allowed it through McAfee ?{quote}
I tried resolving the problem with McAfee "ON" and "OFF". When it was "OFF" I Set the Windows firewall up per your instructions. Unfortunately, it didn't help. And yes, this includes setting up the "exceptions."
I don't think the problem is with McAfee.
    You stated,
    {quote}Having said that and seeing you have tried combos around this issue I would have to point out the AIM site says AIM 6.5 will only Video with other AIM applications. It has been reported here though that it does work with iChat{quote}
Yes, I have read that AIM 6.5 will communicate with iChat on several forums. Lots of people appear to have this working. I wish to use iChat on my Mac to communicate with friends running Windows XP (or Vista) using AIM 6.5. I like iChat.
    Finally, you asked,
    {quote}Next I would have to ask if the modem or router is allowing the AIM application ?{quote}
This is a very good question. I have not been able to test this. I couldn't find an AIM "test" address to use (like Apple's appleu3test01). Any suggestions?
Thanks for your help Ralph. This configuration is a little bit unusual, but it should work. I think the problem might be with the AIM configuration as you've suggested. I will continue to troubleshoot and report any findings here.

  • Macbook Pro & Thunderbolt go black when connected. Can't get a picture on either.

I have a 15" Macbook Pro Retina and I've never had a problem with it. I just got a Thunderbolt Display the other day and when I plug the MB into the T-bolt, both screens go black. I know it's connected, because I can hear sound coming from the T-bolt when I adjust volume, but I can't get any picture. Additionally, when I disconnect the MB from the T-bolt my screen is still black and I have to do 3-4 hard resets before the screen goes back on again. Any ideas what's wrong?

Have you read for possible solutions over in the "More Like This" thread over here?----------------------->
Read the tv user manual.  I have a Toshiba which has detailed instructions for tv to comp hookup.  If necessary call Toshiba.  Especially, if you are still under warranty w/them.

  • No Camera Found message when connecting iPhone

Hello, I am experiencing an annoyance where I plug in the iPhone to my imac and I get a message that reads "No camera found. I have Canon Software installed for my camera. Anyone experiencing the same problems or have a solution. Many thanks.

Your response is 100% irrelevant to my message. I'm connecting the iPhone to my computer via USB. Both iPhoto and Image Capture see the phone as a potential camera device from which it should be able to import photos, but it finds no items to import, even though there are three photos on the camera. I'm not using bluetooth in any way. It's turned off.

  • IChat AV not working when connecting wirelessly thru Netgear router

Ok, I have read nearly EVERY forum out there about this issue, and I have tried nearly everything. I even called Apple. Noone can seem to figure out what the deal is.
I have a Netgear WGR614 v5, and it is connected to a modem that I got from RoadRunner (Time Warner Cable).
My cousin, who has a Mac identical to mine, is set up in the same fashion with a Netgear router.
Neither of us can get a video connection using iChat. When we click the Accept button, it says "Connecting to ...." and then we both get an error that basically says there was a "communication error".
I was informed of an Apple test address that I could test it with. AIM username is appleu3test03. I added it to my iChat buddy list, and clicked on the camera icon, and voila! It connected and I get an iPhone video (which is what is supposed to happen)
So, what EXACTLY is that supposed to tell me???? The Apple test site says that means there is no problem with my connection, but that the issue is on my end somewhere....but I don't understand how that can be.
Anyway, I don't have ANY firewalls on, and it works when I am connected directly with an Ethernet cable.
    PLEASE!!! HELP!!
    Thanks
    Cynthia

    Hi arvideo,

  • Connect 4S to USB cable, camera goes black?

At work I have an iMac 24,  2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with an Apple iPad keyboard dock connected to the USB port.  I normally keep my iPad in this dock, but sometime I unplug the dock connector and  use it to charge my iPhone 4S.
Yesterday afternoon, after having the phone connected I disconnected it and then the camera dimmed and went black.  It was black in every camera app I have, and the default camera stayed at the "shutter" screen.  I tried shut down/restart and hard reboot to no avail. Everything else about the phone worked fine.
I was ready to bring it in to the Apple Store, but then last night while I had it connected to an iPhone AC adapter, I hard reset it again and the camera came back on. And worked fine all day... until I connected it to the USB cable and the iMac again this afternoon.  This again blacked the camera out in all apps.
I disconnected it and hard reset it, and the camera works.
What could be causing this?  Why only when connected to this computer (which I have done for months without incident)? Is the camera about to fail?

Call AppleCare or make an appointment at an Apple store if there is one nearby. The iPhone includes a one year warranty.

  • AIM makes impossible the connection to Ichat through a dotMac account

    Hello,
I have a dotMac account and, some months ago, I configured my Ichat account with this dotMac account and it has been working properly until I change, some days ago, the password of my dotMac account. Since this day, when I try to connect to Ichat I always receive a connection window for AIM which tells me that my name or password is not correct: my dotMac account name appears correctly in the field dedicated to the sign on name but the field dedicated to the sign on password is set to blank. I tried to key in both my new and my old dotMac passwords but the error window still appears.
In Ichat preferences, I cancelled my old account and created a brand new one by using my up to date dotMac settings (name and password). Despite this new Ichat customization, the problem (described above) persists. Note: except the "Bonjour" account and the dotMac account, there is absolutely no entry related to AIM in my current Ichat preferences.
May be, some of you could help to understand and fix this issue.
    Sincerely
    Christophe
    Imac G5 (2GHz PowerPC G5)   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    HI Christophe,
.mac lets you have a password that can be longer than the ones allowed by AIM.
AIM passwords have to be 16 characters or less whereas .mac can be 20 or so.
    Is this your problem ?

  • HT1363 hi, i use an old but great black photo/video ipod. Suddendly it won't recharge, when connected it emits several clicks and an ipod icon appears together with the apple support email address. I have tried to restore and reset but it won't work. Any

hi i use an old black 60G photo/video ipod. Suddenly it won't recharge, when connected to the pc it emits several cicks in serires and then it shows at intervals a low battery signs and another sign, a sad faced ipod icon with the apple support email address. Any clues and to how I can rescue it? Thank you very much. Alf1962

I am having essentialy the same problem, but my iPod came from a PC and is now on a PC. The person who gave me the iPod didn't give me the wall adapter piece, so I bought a "Griffin" brand that was said to be compatible with this model. When I first plugged it into the wall, the Apple appeared with a bar underneath as though it was loading the new software. When the bar got to the end, the "plug into the wall" icon reappeared, but when I plug it in to the wall now, that icon is the only thing that shows, even after resetting and trying to run diagnostics.
When I doc the iPod on a charger I have or plug the USB into my computer and "reset" it, a battery with a charge icon appears, but there is no "motion" in the icon so it doesn't appear to be charging. The screen eventually goes back to the apple then to the "plug it into the wall" icon. HELP!!! Is is possible the wall adapters isn't the right one? Should I be charging through a firewire cable instead (which I also don't have...)?

  • Camera and ipod shuffle do not show up on desk top when connected

Kodak camera and ipod shuffle do not show up on desk top when connected.  Trying to download pictures and adding my music to ipod shuffle, Anyone have any suggestions.

Have you plugged in another USB device to ensure that the USB ports are working?
Suggest you buy (about $10 - $20) a USB memory card reader. Just plug your camera's memory card into it & copy the pic files to your Mac. Quicker & easier than interfacing the camera for pic transfer.
     Cheers, Tom

I've run diagnostics. Can't find device. I've tried resetting. The toggle has been turned on and off.

Cable works fine on my other iPod. Reset by pressing menu and center button together for 6-10 seconds. Left it to charge for many hours. Started acting up while running. Suddenly the music stopped playing but my Nike + was still working for the rest of my run. Took it straight it home and plugged it in to the wall to recharge since the battery was fairly low. Looked like it recharged ok but then screen went blank and now does it not show up on iTunes, does not seem to recharge by the wall charger (apple wall charger plugged into a surge protector in India). I have turned the hold switch off and on many times.
Sounds like a repair issue, which is not easy to do in India :(

  • Laptop screen goes black when HDMI connected to TV

I have a Thinkpad Edge 431. I've set it up in Control Panel to duplicate both the laptop and the external monitor when connected by HDMI. It works fine.
When I connect it to my TV, the laptop screen black. The TV displays "No Signal" until the HDMI connection is made. When the laptop screen goes black, so does the TV screen. No sound or picture.
This was working fine until recently, and I can't figure out if I somehow changed settings to make this happen. It's clear that to me that the HDMI port on the laptop works, as does the cable.
The TV port works (I've switched the connection on the cable box to each HDMI port on the TV, to make sure they work).
I can't change anything in Control Panel when I connect the HDMI, because the screen is black.
    I've updated the Lenovo system.
The other relevant piece of info: the Intel Graphics Card control panel says that Monitor/TV Settings are not supported (although until recently, I could easily display the computer on the TV).
Can anyone help with this? Thanks!

No video and audio signals to the tv connected
