AIM Fails to Login - Password too long?

I am unable to login using the AIM application on my iPod touch. Whenever I try to login, I get a "Connecting..." "dialog box" for about 15 seconds, then I get a message saying "You must have a network connection to access the AIM network". When this error happens, all other Internet functions are working properly (e-mail, weather, google maps, etc...)
One thing I did notice was that I was able to login with a friend's .Mac account on my iPod touch. His password is 8 characters long, while mine is 12 characters. I suspect AIM doesn't like the long password, but have been unable to find a way to report this bug to AOL.
I'd rather not change my password on my .Mac account. Just curious if others have noticed this problem with long passwords using the AIM application on the iPhone and iPod touch....
Steve

I meant to come back and say that this is working, but I don't know why. I had continued to have problems with AIM on the iPod for a while, always getting the same "no network" error. The recovery went as follows:
- I have two computers (iMac at home, MacBook Pro at work). I purchased most of my apps on my iMac and had copied most, but not all of them to the MBP. One difference was Enigmo, which I did not have on my MBP.
- iTunes on the iMac is configured to sync everything, and on the MBP, it apparently was set to sync applications.
- I plugged in my iPod to the MBP, which promptly erased Enigmo from the iPod. No worries, I would copy it back onto the phone when I got home.
- To keep this from happening again, I went into iTunes sync options on the MBP and turned off Application syncing, which removed ALL apps from the iPod (after warning me that it would do this).
- When I got back home, I synced to the iMac and then tried reconfiguring AIM and it magically worked this time.
In other words, I don't know why it didn't start working, which is frustrating. I suspect the uninstall/reinstall fixed the app. You could do this, without impacting all your other apps, by modifying the iTunes sync options to not sync all apps, but only selected ones and deselect AIM. Once it's uninstalled, set it back to the original settings, sync it, and see if you can connect to AIM.
It works pretty nice. Once Apple gets the notification server up and running and AIM can stay connected when the program is not the foreground app, or when the iPhone/iPod are off-line, it would mean the end of needing to send SMS messages.

  • 128bit WEP Password Too Long!

    Hi
    I've finally got my AX to work with my Netgear DG834G Router but with no WEP enabled. Now I want to re-enable WEP and get it working by adding a "$" to the front of my WEP password. However when I try to add a "$" to the front of the password in the Airport Admin Utility I get an error message saying that the password should be exactly 13 characters long. I know it should be but prefixing a "$" makes it 14 characters long - which I need to do to get the whole WEP thing working with my router. Any ideas please?
    Thanks
    Simon

    Hi
    Thanks for the reply. I'm attempting to input a hexadecimal password that already existed on my wireless network. So my wireless router etc is configured for WEP with a 128 bit password and I'm attempting to put the hex value of the password in the Admin Utility. I read that I need the "$" in front of it to get my Netgear router to talk to the AX. However, when I put the "$" the password is too long - according to the AX Admin Utility. I can run my network with WEP but I'n unhappy with this.....
    Cheers

  • Incbuilddim failing because formula is too long

    Hi all:
    I have migrated from version 6 to 9. Its rejecting some records within incbulddim statements because the formula of the member being added seems to be too long. That didnt happen in version 6.
    The record itself is not even close to the length limit the documentation gives to a formula (64kb). It only has 1600 bytes.
    How can i get rid of this restriction? is there anything i can configure, or some kind of workaraound?
    Thanks in advance!

    It would seem logical to expect you to include information on the length of the film!
    Export to where/what? Using what codec?
    Also the version of iMovie you are using.

  • HT201240 My administrator login password no longer works on MacBook Pro - what do I do?

    I have not changed my password, the caps lock is not on, I was able to log in this morning, turned off my MacBook, turned it back on this evening and the password is no longer working.  How can I go about fixing this when I am not able to login to my administrator account?
    Thank you!

    I would first try and reset the Admin password by the method shown in the article below.

  • 64 bit password too long for macbook

    I'm trying to connect to a friend's wifi network. She's given me a 64 bit WPA password, which works on her macbook pro but not on my regular macbook. When my friend enters the password, she has a $ sign in front of it, bit when I enter it, there's no space for a $ sign. Any ideas what I can do to fix it? It is not letting me connect, the password box is too short to add the $ sign.

    kthomasthomas, Welcome to the discussion area!
    That is a 64 bit WEP password. Make sure that you select the proper option from the drop down menu before trying to enter that password. If you select "hex" you don't need the '$'. If you select "ASCII' you would need the '$'.

  • Password too long !

    I had to create an Adobe ID for a client and the password has 13 characters.
    Adobe allows to have a password of 13 characters.
    But Folio Builder does not !
    Please fix this ;-)

    Yes, this is a known bug. The DPS team hopes to fix it by v26.

  • Password no longer works after installing 4.0.3 !

    Brand new Mac mini running 10.10.2. I downloaded the new OS X Server v 4.0.3 app and all installed fine..
    I even created a share and transferred some test data okay...
    But my main login password on longer worked when I went to go access something in System Preferences!  I also couldn't use it to access the server via Screen Sharing as I had before I installed it ...and after a restart, I couldn't use it to log into the Mac!!  Meanwhile Safari kept crashing ...!  Infuriating !!  But yet it worked when I went to go log into the Server application.  ??? This used to be a piece of cake to install.  What happened to Server.app ???
    So I've decided to wipe the system and not use this awful 4.0.3.  I'll just use regular old File Sharing for now.  So annoying, but I can't have it act like this, I've wasted too much time.  It's like I'm running a beta.
    Is 4.0.3 just bug-ridden or what ?  What happened to my system's password ???
    Bad job with this one, Apple.

    At upgrades or major updates I have seen the behaviour that remote access via Server.app and remote access with Screen Sharing/Apple remote Desktop are reset to "not allowed". That only explains remote access not local access though.

  • SharePoint 2010, Visual Studio 2010, Packaging a solution - The specified path, file name, or both are too long. The fully qualified file name must be less than 260 characters, and the directory name must be less than 248 characters.

    Hi,
    I have a solution that used to contain one SharePoint 2010 project. The project is named along the following lines:
    <Company>.<Product>.SharePoint - let's call it Project1 for future reference. It contains a number of features which have been named according
    to their purpose, some are reasonably long and the paths fairly deep. As far as I am concerned we are using sensible namespaces and these reflect our company policy of "doing things properly".
    I first encountered the following error message when packaging the aforementioned SharePoint project into a wsp:
    "The specified path, file name, or both are too long. The fully qualified file name must be less than 260 characters, and the directory name must be less than 248 characters."
    I went through a great deal of pain in trying to rename the project, shorten feature names and namespaces etc... until I got it working. I then went about gradually
    renaming everything until eventually I had what I started with, and it all worked. So I was none the wiser...not ideal, but I needed to get on and had tight delivery timelines.
    Recently we wanted to add another SharePoint project so that we could move some of our core functinality out into a separate SharePoint solution - e.g. custom workflow
    error logging. So we created another project in Visual Studio called:
    <Company>.<Product>.SharePoint.<Subsystem> - let's call it Project2 for future reference
    And this is when the error has come back and bitten me! The scenario is now as follows:
    1. project1 packages and deploys successfully with long feature names and deep paths.
    2. project2 does not package and has no features in it at all. The project2 name is 13 characters longer than project1
    I am convinced this is a bug with Visual Studio and/or the Package MSBuild target. Why? Let me explain my findings so far:
    1. By doing the following I can get project2 to package
    In Visual Studio 2010 show all files of project2, delete the obj, bin, pkg, pkgobj folders.
    Clean the solution
    Shut down Visual Studio 2010
    Open Visual Studio 2010
    Rebuild the solution
    Package the project2
    et voila the package is generated!
    This demonstrates that the package error message is in fact inaccurate and that it can create the package, it just needs a little help, since Visual Studio seems to
    no longer be hanging onto something.
    Clearly this is fine for a small time project, but try doing this in an environment where we use Continuous Integration, Unit Testing and automatic deployment of SharePoint
    solutions on a Build Server using automated builds.
    2. I have created another project3 which has a ludicrously long name, this packages fine and also has no features contained within it.
    3. I have looked at the length of the path under the pkg folder for project1 and it is large in comparison to the one that is generated for project2, that is when it
    does successfully package using the method outlined in 1. above. This is strange since project1 packages and project2 does not.
    4. If I attempt to add project2 to my command line build using MSBuild then it fails to package and when I then open up Visual Studio and attempt to package project2
    from the Visual Studio UI then it fails with the path too long error message, until I go through the steps outlined in 1. above to get it to package.
    5. DebugView shows nothing useful during the build and packaging of the project.
    6. The error seems to occur in
    CreateSharePointProjectService target called at line 365 of
    Microsoft.VisualStudio.SharePoint.targetsCurrently I am at a loss to work out why this is happening? My next task is to delete
    project2 completely and recreate it and introduce it into my Visual Studio solution.
    Microsoft, can you confirm whether this is a known issue and whether others have encountered this issue? Is it resolved in a hotfix?
    Anybody else, can you confirm whether you have come up with a solution to this issue? When I mean a solution I mean one that does not mean that I have to rename my namespaces,
    project etc... and is actually workable in a meaningful Visual Studio solution.

    Hi
    Yes, I thought I had fixed this my moving my solution from the usual documents  to
    c:\v2010\projectsOverflow\DetailedProjectTimeline
    This builds ok, but when I come to package I get the lovely error:
    Error 2 The specified path, file name, or both are too long. The fully qualified file name must be less than 260 characters, and the directory name must be less than 248 characters. C:\VS2010\ProjectsOverflow\DetailedProjectTimeline\VisualDetailedProjectTimelineWebPart\Features\Feature1\Feature1.feature VisualDetailedProjectTimeline
    Now, the error seems to be related to
    Can anyone suggest what might be causing this. Probably some path in an XML file somewhere. Here is my prime suspect!
    <metaData>
    <type name="VisualDetailedProjectTimelineWebPart.VisualProjectTimelineWebPart.VisualProjectTimeline, $SharePoint.Project.AssemblyFullName$" />
    <importErrorMessage>$Resources:core,ImportErrorMessage;</importErrorMessage>
    </metaData>
    <data>
    <properties>
    <property name="Title" type="string">VisualProjectTimelineWebPart</property>
    <property name="Description" type="string">My Visual WebPart</property>
    </properties>
    </data>
    </webPart>
    </webParts>
    .... Unless I can solve this I will have to remove the project and recreate but with simple paths. Tho I will be none the wiser if I come across this again.

  • Taking too long time to login!

    Hi Experts,
    I am facing a low performance problem in B1. After I enter the user id and password on the login screen of B1 in our client PCs, it takes a long time (around 180sec) to log in to the system. The initial log in time is too long for end users.
    However, once it is logged in it running fine. Also, it is fast if I try to login in the server machine (localhost). I have checked the network and the hardware. Everything is fast and smooth except login.
    Is there any way out to make the login process faster?
    Please advise
    Ken Ma

    Dear Ken,
    Sometimes the login process can be delayed due to several factors, please verify your clients machines meet the minimum requirements. You can use the below link to get the necessary documents:-
    http://channel.sap.com/sbo/documentation
    I would suggest to have at least 1Gb Ram on your clients machines for better performance.
    regards,

  • Safari 3 no longer preserves login/password info

    Safari 3 that came with OS 10.4.11 no longer maintains login/password info for ANY page, including Home Page.
    Troubleshooting I tried (which have failed to fix problem) include:
    1. Fixing Permissions.
    2. Deleting System and User caches with AppleJack.
    3. Reseting Safari.
    4. Deleting cookies.
    5. Deleting Safari.plist.
    6. Deleting apple.internetconfig.plist.
    7. Reinstalling OS 10.4.11 with combo updater.
    8. Copying backup copy of Safari 3 from my backup clone of system on external drive.
    9. Keychain First Aid found no problems.
    Note that this problem is on my iMac Intel (late 2006). Safari is fine on Powerbook G4 and on external clone of system.
    Login/Password info works fine on Firefox & Omniweb.

    Actually, I fixed it myself.  Always blocking cookies was the problem.  Evidently, you can't do that and still be able to log on to websites.  Thanks, self!

  • Windows Login Takes Way too Long to Load

    New computer (Satellite L870) - recevied mid Sept.  Until last week, everything was ok.  During startup, computer takes 15+ minutes to load the windows login (password request) screen.  Did not begin doing this after new software was loaded.  Did a system restore to earliest possible point.  Ran any and all diagnotic programs on the computer - all come up with nothing.  Once the password is entered, computer works fine but why does it take so long to get to that point?

    If it doesn't cause you too much difficulty, it's best to restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media. The process will wipe the drive clean, of course.
    If that creates too much work, we can troubleshoot. Start by letting us know what happens when you boot into Safe Mode.
       Start your computer in safe mode
    See if you can identify where the hang-up occurs.
    Always tell us which Satellite L870 you have when you post here. There is a label on the bottom.

  • ITunes v10.6.1.7 "Copying files failed. The File name was invalid or too long."

    I'm trying to organize my music files using iTunes 10.6.1.7 and I keep getting the error message "Copying files failed. The File name was invalid or too long."
    I've got music folders by artist in both the iTunes Music folder and the iTunes Media/Music folder. When I add certain files by drag/drop they sometimes get lost and I don't want that to happen anymore. I used to just consolidate my music files using the File/Library/Organize Library option and that worked, however now when I do that, I get the error message.
    I'm a novice and the only online stuff I see is both confusing and refers to earlier versions of iTunes.
    My concern is that I have heard that people lose entire libraries of their music when they trry to fix things like this and I don't want that. If this is of any importance, I have several files called iTunes library and temp library. I have no idea what that all means but I'm scared to death of it.
    Also, I can't get to the "re-organize library" link at all. It won't let me.
    One thing that be of some interest is that when I pull up the properties of the music and media/music files they are marked "read only" I'm also afraid to touch that!
    Please help and please know that I am a dummy. Be kind and be clear. Step by step would be great, with images even better. Thanks.

    You can choose to *Consolidate selected tracks* with a right-click menu. Perhaps if you can identify a specific track that won't consolidate and examine the full path to the file & the path that iTunes would create when it consolidates the problem might become apparent. For example iTunes may not be able to move files if the source or destination path length exceeds 255 characters.

  • I changed my Apple ID, now I can't login to iCloud because it still has my old Apple ID and the password no longer works to log me in. How can I get back into iCloud so that I can switch off Find my iPhone so I can make these changes? Thank you.

    Well, you're gonna have to recover the password for that Apple ID:
