Aim ichat not connecting

When I attempt to connect to my aim account a message box comes up that it cannot connect to this screen because something is incorrect. This also occurs when I try to log into aim express through the aol website (I know this isn't specifically an ichat problem, but maybe someone here can help). I know my account works because I can check my email, but it does not work for aim. Other family members using their own screennames (on the same account) work fine for aim, but mine doesn't. Can anyone help? Please?
(if not, can someone post a link to the support page on aol - i can't find/access it, and when I call tech support, they won't help because I recently stopped paying for the account (which is free).

Hi,
Do you mean you use AOL as your ISP and their package to access the Net ?
Have you turned On the IM part ?
If you had such an account and told them that you were no longer going to use it they will have cancelled the Screen name.

  • IChat and other aim messengers not connecting?

Wondering if anyone else is having this issue? iChat says the host refused connection and like Adium says I could not connect because the socket was not installed or connected....?????

    Hi
Try logging on to AIM on port 443 rather than port 5190 on both ends
Go to IChat in the menu bar > Preferences > Accounts.
Log out of AIM and then use the Server Settings tab
    Set the port to 443.
    Log back in again.

  • IChat not connecting to AIM account

I can seldomly ever connect to AIM on my iChat app.
Im using te standard AIM 4.7 from AOL.com, but iChat cant connect.

    Hi
Apart from Rj's advice.... Do you use the same AIM screen on both apps ?
Have you set the Multiple Logins option in iChat > Preferences > Accounts section
Select the AIM account in question and then the Account info tab. This has a check box at the top of the pane to Enable Mulitple Logins.
You have to be logged out of AIM first (all apps)

  • Ichat not connecting today

Is anyone having trouble connecting to their Ichat? I've tried several times this morning and under ichat it's not connecting, under Adium, it's asking for my password and does not connect either....

Me too having same exact issues. AGAIN!!! This happened a few months back and I was down for a week. What I recall happening was when Apple did an upgrade to the .Mac stuff when the new version/enhancements were released, it screwed up the connectivity for many .Mac chat accounts. I bet something similar happened here again.
I can connect just fine through my AIM screen name, but cannot connect through any of my .Mac screen names. It's definitely something with just .Mac and nothing else. Same messages as everyone is reading below.
Hope to see a fix soon!!!

  • Ichat not connecting to jabber account

Hi - I'm relatively new to Macs in general and especially new to ichat. I'm using my gmail account to connect to ichat, but it won't connect. I've checked the user name and password, I've checked the server and the port. I also have connectivity to the internet and I'm the admin on the computer so I know it's not a parental controls issue. I'm also not logged into gmail and ichat at the same time
Why is ichat telling me "iChat can't communicate with the Jabber account [email protected] Could not connect to host talk.google.com."
This is so frustrating! Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Rayna

    Hi,
    ||iChat Ports||TCP||UDP||
    |AIM|5190|5190|
    |A/V|none|5678, 16393-16402|
    |Bonjour|5298|5297, 5298, 5353|
    |Jabber|5220,5222, 5223|none|
Note this is the iChat 4 and 5 Range
Add port 5060 UDP for iChat 2 and 3 and extend the group of 10 to 16384-16403 (20 ports)
iChat 4 and 5 also uses an undeclared Random port to do the Screen Sharing part and works if you can and do use UPnP (Or Port Mapping Protocol) to open ports in your routing device.
This Info is from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1507?viewlocale=en_US for iChat 3 ports which lists the Bonjour and Jabber ports as well.
This one http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2282?viewlocale=en_US lists the changes (reduction in the A/V Group mainly) but does not refer to the first for Bonjour and Jabber.
    Then there is this
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=ServerAdmin/10.6/en/im5945b424.html
This does also list port 7777 for Federation (things to do with linking with other Jabber servers)
It lists 1080 for File Transfers using a Proxy (Not sure if this is Jabber or not)
It also lists "5269 TCP This port is used for encrypted TLS server-to-server connections, as well as nonencrypted connections". I have not come across this on the Client side (but it does say Server to Sever)
As the Clients may still be using iChat 3 (or in fact earlier) port 5060 is still listed and the A/V group is wider as a consequence as they will need them.
The biggest issue will be the Random Port for Screen Sharing.
As far as I can tell this an Audio Chat alongside a VNC part for the Screen Pics.
Both need to work for iChat Screen Sharing to work.
    I hope this helps.

  • IChat NOT CONNECTING with Google TALK - Newbie

    Hi
I have a huge problem with the Google Talk on iChat.
I followed every step, and nothing seems to work. These are the steps I tried...I created a new jabber account and put all the necessary information like the lD and password. For the server I put 'talk.google.com.' As for the server settings, I left the port at 5223 and left all the boxes checked and 'location' as iChat.
This is the message I keep getting...'Could not connect to host talk.google.com'
Could the problem be the port number? as I am residing in Canada, is there another port number? or could it be a problem with jabber itself...like I have to download some additional stuff for Jabber?
    Please let me know
    Kp
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    HI Andrew,
I have several Jabber accounts and have intermittent problems with all of them.
Realistically Google seems to be the worst though, either not connecting or dropping connections every now and then.
But also I am not using a Proxy to get this to work.
The Jabber side of iChat does not have any Proxy options and relies on the System settings in System Preferences > Network

  • IChat not connecting with most users

Hi, I'm running Tiger and having trouble connecting to anyone but other Tiger users. I can't connect to PC users and I can also not connect, most importantly, with my dad who uses Panther.
As an error, it says at my end that the other computer is unavailable or unreachable something like that and then at their end it says that I canceled my request. Strange, no doubt.
I changed the Quicktime settings and did everything else in accordance with this thread, including opening the proper firewall ports (i have also tried with firewall off), I have no iChat add-ins and I connect to the internet directly to my cable modem. I had no problems under Panther.
I have an up/down speed of 187Kbps/339Kbps, according to a test I just ran. Also, my dad, the one I really want to talk to, connects with a modem, so i thought maybe his connection was just too pokey to handle it (even though it used to work fine for us), but I have the same problem with broadband users.
I have had this problem with every incarnation of 10.4.x

My dad was online tonight so I had a chance to test it out...
    just says
"there was a communication error during your chat"
somewhere down in the report it says it ended with error -8

  • IChat not connecting properly or reliably to AIM

    hi there folks
i've read with interest the various problems other people are having with this and the suggestions that have been offered. so far, nothing has improved my situation. here are some relevant details:
    - iChat will not reliably logon to AIM, though when this happens Bonjour works fine. when I try to log on, i often just see my buddy list grey-ed out - eventually my online buddies will show up at the top (as they should) but then quite often the next listed symptom will occur.
    - if/when iChat has logged in successfully, it will often crash silently in the background. the symptom here is that any outgoing messages do not appear in the iChat window and subsequent messages are ignored by iChat, but when the application is logged off i get the return messages, meaning that my first message IS getting through though iChat is not showing that it did, and I do not see the responses until i log off.
    - the only thing that seems to have worked to mitigate all this is waiting some period of time (not predictable - could be 5 minutes, could be an hour) before trying to log back on again. occasionally rebooting the mac will work, but this may be related to the time factor.
    - this scenario happens on multiple computers in multiple locations (even in other countries), using different routers. my desktop at home is a mac mini PPC running X.4.10 connected via ethernet to a linksys router. my desktop here at work is the G5 listed below, connected via ethernet to an Airport Extreme base station. my laptop is a macBook core2duo 2.0 mhz, running X.4.10 and connecting wirelessly, and exhibits these symptoms at both locations with both routers.
all computers were updated to their current OS status using combo updaters.
if I run AIM 4.7 on the work desktop, it connects with no problem, so it doesn't seem to be an account-related issue with AIM. the fact that the identical problems exist across different machines running different OS versions and with different routers in different locations leaves me scratching my head.......
any insights into how to solve this would be most appreciated. any additional information needed will be gladly provided.
    best regards,
    hiltonius

ok, just in the interest of completeness.....
i believe i have solved the problem today, and thought i'd share my experience in case someone else can benefit from it.
in pursuit of another way of using iChat, I was introduced to "jabber" and started configuring new accounts on my home desktop and my laptop to access AIM, Yahoo, and MSN all through jabber. got all that working fine.
in the process of creating new accounts in iChat, the prefs file gets re-written - and I believe this cured the previous problem I was trying to address in the first place! at least so far today, the connection has not wavered, and so i'm optimistic that it'll continue to work.
the tricky thing is that I sync these computers together using mark/space "sync together" software, so I believe it's likely that this problem originated on the studio DAW, was transferred through a sync I did there a while back, and manifested itself on all the computers when I upgraded to X.4.10. as I almost never run iChat on the DAW at work, I would not have noticed the bug there before it transferred to the computers on which I do run iChat - and then at that point, i checked it on the studio DAW and noticed it there too.
so if there's a moral - when the feces flies off the proverbial fan, sometimes it's a good idea to just create a new iChat account and then even delete it if you want, just to re-write the prefs and keep everything smooth.
any alternate theories, realities, or visions of peace are most welcome.
    best regards,
    Rich

  • Ichat Not connecting to AIM.

Im having a problem with Ichat. Since this afternoon, I have been unable to connect to my AIM account on Ichat. It was working fine, I put an away message on and left my computer for a few hours. It was open and it went into sleep mode. When I came back, It stopped working. I tried restarting the computer, modem, wireless, everything. Nothing seems to work. And then the Ichat almost like spasms and signs on and off like 5 times until I get an error message telling me I've tried to log on too many times. All the other internet programs work but Ichat. So now I've been forced to use the actual AIM program, which everyone knows that the program is WAY outdated and extremely buggy. Can someone PLEASE tell me what is wrong. I have a Macbook Pro with Leopard.
    Thank You,
    Ryan

Nope it is a combo of things.
Leopard and the rush from new or retrying Mac users.
GoogleTalk has added AIM protocols (Goodness only know how many people that has added)
At this time of year AIM clear out unused Screen names to allow them to be reused.
This often causes synch problems with the AIM Servers as some people will still list those Buddies in their Buddy list.

  • IChat not connecting to AIM server

for the last 2 days when i open iChat it signs on for 2 seconds, then immediately signs off and says "Lost Connection with AIM"
I've never had this problem before and everything had been working fine. why is this happening and how do i fix it?

    Hi
Have you tried logging on to AIM on port 443 rather than port 5190
Go to IChat > Preferences > Accounts.
Log out of AIM and then use the Server Settings tab
    Set the port to 443.
    Log back in again.

  • IChat not connecting

I've been using iChat to videoconference with my parents in France for 6 years now.
iChat has usually run smoothly (except for occasional problems with the Internet provider), but for the past couple of weeks, when I call, the line says "Starting videochat" but it stops there. I checked in Activity monitor and the # of KB sent and received does not take off.
When my parents are the ones calling, then it connects (it take longer than usual though) and we actually have a pretty good connection (no less than 120 KB for both). It's also interesting that if I request a Screen Share while we are communicating, then this goes through without any problems.
We are both using AIM and are using the same OS 10.6.8 (they use an iMac, I use a MacBook Pro). iChat is 5.0.3 (745). The server settings are login.oscar.aol.com on port 5190. I tried to change to 443 but it automatically switches back to 5190. And we are "Allowing AOL's server to relay video chats".
What I can't understand is why it stopped working all of the sudden for me and why it works when my parents call. File transfer is OK too.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    HI,
It does seem a bit strange that people all over the place are reporting that they suddenly can't do what they were doing.
You have to Log Out of the AIM server (iChat > Preferences > Accounts > Account Info tab > Untick the "Enable this account" box)
Then go to Server Settings and change the Port.
If that does not work change the AIM relay item to Off if is currently On.

  • IChat not connecting consistently

I have been trying to assist a friend get iChat working. He has a BT home hub with 6.2.2.6 firmware set to uPnP. Before resetting and setting up uPnP nothing was working.
Now we have checked all the setttings he is getting occasional connection to the appletest account but it is failing more than 50% of the time.
The error is sometimes error 8 and sometimes 22. We think the problem is with bandwidth but have tried Ralphjohns settings for quicktime and iChat but with no luck improving things further.
Any suggestions about settings or other things we can test to check bandwidth would be appreciated.

    Hello Matthew,
Update your OS by selecting the "software update" feature in the Apple Menu.
You can check bandwidth alternatively by doing the following:
Add these auto responding video streams to your contact list:
    appleu3test01 (AIM)
    appleu3test02 (AIM)
    appleu3test03 (AIM)
After they have appeared in your contact list and if they display a camera icon click on the icon and a video window will open.
In the video window you'll see a "+" sign at the bottom of the screen, select it.
If one or more contacts appear you have bandwidth enough for video chat.
When you select "+" again and another video capable contact appears you have enough bandwidth for multi A/V chat.
For testing purposes do not have more than one computer connected at a time, no other devices like game consoles. Unplug the cordless phone if you have one.
    Your friend:
Reset the modem to factory settings, make sure the latest easy set-up software has been installed. Enter the details into the easy set up windows confirm the instructions by your ISP. (do not return to factory settings if you do not have your personal details, login/passw written down somewhere, do a restart instead).

  • Ichat not connecting because of "incorrect password"

ichat is not allowing me to connect. it repeatedly tells me my password is incorrect even though i am certain i have the correct password because i changed it when this problem arouse. My ichat account is set up through my MobileMe and my subscription expired yesterday, so I assumed that was the problem. I tried making a new account through aol and the same problem came about. I cannot connect to my ichat account because my "password is incorrect". HELP ME

    Hi,
A MobileMe trial does not "Expire"
Registration requires a Credit Card and an active move to Discontinue it before the 60 days is up or you get charged and actually have an active MobileMe account.
If you did discontinue it I cannot see how you changed the password as that would have needed access to the MobileMe site.
Having said that Apple allows Passwords over 16 characters but the AIM server do not.
The password needs to be 16 characters or less.
To Register an AIM name you should have started here
In iChat 4 using the Get an iChat Account button in the Add new Screen Name sCreen takes you to the @Mac.com registration page no matter which type of Account you select in the drop Down.
In iChat 5 change the drop down to read @Mac.com will take you to the @Mac.com Registration page and AIM to the AIM Registration page.
Use the second part of this Users Tip to check the spelling of the Password held in the KeyChain.
Also try deleting the com.apple.ichat.AIM.plist and Restarting iChat.
This File is found in your Home Folder/Library/Preferences (your Home Folder is the Little House icon)

  • IChat not connecting on new macbook

Hi, just bought a new macbook (Black) 2ghz 1gb ram, intel core 2 duo, can't get it to connect ichat at all, just keeps saying "connecting" but never does!! I am connecting through AIM and have a BT Home Hub, all which works fine on the iMac I have. Can someone help me as I am selling my iMac and need to get the ichat up and running on this new macbook? Cheers in advance. Baz. Belfast. Northern Ireland.

    Hi Baz_belfast,
Either make sure it has the latest firmware (6.2.2 I think) or if you are not using the VoIP phone side ask BT to change it to a BT Voyager 2500
