AIM server will not respond.

I'm using iChat 5.0.3 and I cannot log-in to my AIM and Jabber accounts, although, I can still log-in to my facebook chat account. I have not enabled my firewall and have tried several different ports and other clients. Please help. Thanks in advance.

I know that AOL is having a problem with some AIM names....

I am using Mac OS X 10.6.7 i am running fine on internet and am connected with good broadband speed.
    Thanks in advance

You're saying that there is an issue when trying to use Software Update to get to 10.6.8, correct? An alternate way to apply that update is to download the 10.6.8 update from the Apple download site.
Before running it, bring up Disk Utility, repair permissions, apply the update, and repair permissions again when done. With that, you can now install iTunes 7.

  • Your computer appears to be correctly configured, but the device or resource (DNS server) is not responding [and I'm at my wit's end!]

I originally posted this question to the community section and was advised to post it here.  Please bear with me as this will be a long post.  I'm including the scenarios involving this reoccurring issue, the trouble shooting steps I've already
taken and the results of several diagnostic tools and logs.
I have a Sony VAIOS VPCEBB33FM lap top since 2011.  I have had this issue on an off for a long time.  I'm at my wit's end.  Any new insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Scenario Details
    1)  Some times it's on and off through out the day, sometimes it won't work all day, and once in a while it will work fine for the entire day.
    2)  I've had this issue across several wireless services, Clear Network accessed with WiMax, Library Wi-fi, Comcast cable internet using wireless router and Wi-fi, and Comcast Xfinity Wi-Fi, to name a few examples.
    3)  Other devices in the household or library will work with no problems such as my smart phone or my roommates' laptops or desktop computers.
    4) Once in a while,  the built-in wireless adapter is not found and I have to reinstall the driver.  Also the diagnostic tool has had to reset my adapter on an increasing basis.
    5)  I had my hard drive replaced in December 2014 and my system restored from the System Restore disks that came with it when I bought the laptop.  Even though I've been online on an infrequent basis it worked just fine for a while. Now that
I've been online a bit more I'm having the same issues again.
Below are my attempts at trouble shooting so far but I still have not been able to consistently resolve my DNS issues
     1) Restarting my adapter
     2) Turning off my laptop and removing the power supply for 5-10 minutes before turning it back on.
     3)  Using the IP Config in Command Prompt
         ipconfig /flushdns
         ipconfig /registerdns
         ipconfig /release
         ipconfig /renew
     4) Using the NetSh reset in Command Prompt and restarting my laptop
         netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt
         netsh winsock reset
         ipconfig /flushdns
         [restart laptop]
     5)  Configuring the TCP/IP in several settings
Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4), and then click Properties.
I have used the following settings:
           a) Obtain an DNS server address automatically
           b) OpenDNS
               208 67 222 222
               208 67 220 220
           c) Google DNS
               8 8 8 8
               8 8 4 4
     6) Updating the driver for my Intel Centrino(R) Advanced-N 6250 AGN and Intel Centrino(R) WIMAX 6250 from the Intel website previous having my laptop wiped clean in 2014.  It still did not resolve the issue.  My laptop
manufacturer as not come up with an driver update for my adapter since 2010.  I haven't tried to update the adapter driver from Intel's website since having my laptop repaired due to the fact that Intel strongly recommending using the manufacturer's updates
instead and frankly it didn't make much of a difference when I did it the first time.
     7) The last one I've tried as of today is going into Services and changing the start up type to automatic for the following:
Computer Browser [changed from manual to automatic]
DHCP Client [already set to automatic]
DNS Client [already set to automatic]
Network Connections [already set to automatic]
Network Location Awareness [changed from manual to automatic]
Remote Procedure Call (RPC) [already set to automatic]
           Server [already set to automatic]
TCP/IP Netbios helper [already set to automatic]
           Workstation [already set to automatic]
...and I'm still having DNS issues.
My only guessing are that my laptop came with a lemon adapter that needs to be replaced, some advanced setting(s) that I'm not aware off, or my firewall/anti-virus is interfering. I've used Symmantic Anti-virus and Firewall in the past and currently
Avast Anti-Virus with Microsoft Network Firewall.  I've had DNS issues with both anti-virus/firewall set ups.
Below are the results from the diagnostics and tests that I've ran.

Not: I tried the configuration D4 and D2 for Burflag but no luck
Note: DC1 and DC2 both are on different location with different subnet.

    Hello,
please upload the following files so we could understand your setup:
    ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.log [from each DC/DNS Server]
    dcdiag /v /c /d /e /s:dcname >c:\dcdiag.log
repadmin /showrepl dc* /verbose /all /intersite >c:\repl.log  ["dc* is a place holder for the starting name of the DCs if they all begin the same (if more then one DC exists)]
    dnslint /ad /s "DCipaddress" (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321045)
    ADREPLSTATUS
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30005 can also be exported to file.
As the output will become large, DON'T post them into the thread, please use Windows OneDrive (https://onedrive.live.com) [with open access!]
and add the link from it here. Also the /e in dcdiag scans the complete forest, so better run it on COB.

We are getting intermittant "CLI0615E Error receiving from socket, server is not responding errors". We have looked in the JDBC forum and DB2 support and cannot find a reasonable answer to this problem. It is NOT always on sql statements that take a long time to execute, so I don't think it is a timeout issue.
I read something about "stale connections". Does anyone know how to check to see if this is a problem?
When we first converted the app, we had a lot of problems also with "invalid handle or statement is closed" which we have determined was being caused by the user submitting the page again before it had time to finish the first time. We have put in javascript code to prevent multiple submits. Could this server not responding problem be caused by double submits that we have not located yet?
The error is NOT occuring on any one page, and the same page will run correctly once and the next time throw this error.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    hi,
lemme try to tell u what i thinkk..i dont think its' a solution
Usually this error code means that there was some problem while the driver tried establishsing a socket connection to the remote server. You could very well avoid this by tracking out what is preventing the socket connection.. it may be network congestion or some other onfiguration problems with the network, or with the DB2 server...
But if the same application could work perfectly with jdbc-odbc driver in same environment, then it needs some attention.either the ibm driver isn't throwing the error as expected by the iplanet or iplanet isn't acting as needed when such an error is thrown.
contact them and they may provide and explanation..
    wishes,

  • The remote server did not respond to a connection attempt

I have two Exchange 2003 servers: Old and New. Emails from the new server can go out however, users on the new server cannot receive emails from the old or the internet.

    Hi KimaniBob,
Since Exchange 2003 is a very old Exchange version, we have not supported for Exchange 2003. It is recommended to upgrade your Exchange server to Exchange 2010. Your understanding will be appreciated.

  • Essbase admin server is not responding in 11.1.2.2 and related services ??

    Hi All,
I've installed & configured Hyperion 11.1.2.2. When i entered admin & password in EAS console, the message is displaying as Essbase Administration server is not responding. Can you pls. let me know, what is the service for Essbase Admin services. Also when i'm trying the link http://servername:9000/interop, page not found is displaying. Is it must that Hyperion Configuration Manager service should be up & running ? Where i can find the service for shared services ? where i can find all the related services of different hyperion products. Thanks in advance for the help
    Thanks,
    PVR

If you have deployed all the web applications to a single managed server then there will be one service to start the web apps - "Hyperion EPM Server - Web Application"
You can tell in the configurator if you have deployed the web apps to a single managed server and - http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vhvxHXJ6C18/T4Wa0iSeW8I/AAAAAAAAEfg/v7ktkUIqmug/s1600/image023.png
The default port is 9000, if you are still having problems then it is worth checking the logs.

  • Firewall: Error sending to the socket, server is not responding.

    Hi all,
I'm trying to connect AIX machine to NT DB2 Database through JDBC with a firewall. I'm using the standard port 6789 in JDBC Applet Server in NT DB2. But I've gotten the following message:
COM.ibm.db2.jdbc.DB2Exception: [IBM][JDBC Driver] CLI0614E Error sending to the socket, server is not responding. SQLSTATE=08S01
The connection chain I'm using for AIX side is:
    jdbc:db2://192.168.3.4:6789/DATABASE
I've configured the firewal to allow the port 6789 to be used, and also the other port 51544 (it's for remote administration, I think). I've also checked that wires and other stuff is working fine, but stil I cannot connect to the Database.
I don't know if there's something missing on the firewall configuration. Before, everything was working without the firewall.
Any help will be apreciated, THanks.

It looks like no port problem is happening, because we freed all the ports just to see if client tried to use some of them without our knowing. But it was still the same.
We were thinking about routing issues, but we were able to ping from client to server, and ports 6789 and 51544 were open as well. Maybe JDBC Client Driver is looking for an different IP address than 192.168.3.4. We know the firewall doesn't receive any query from JDBC Client, and that's very strange because if you see the routing tables in AIX machine, the default route is the firewall. Of course, there's not any other static defined route for the server (192.168.3.4), so it's supposed that default route is going to be used. But it's not.
We also restarted client machine from scratch but nothing. Maybe this problem happens because there's something wrong in AIX networking settings.

When the problem occurs, the procedure does not return anything. SQL Server was told to stop executing. Furthermore, unless you issue the command SET XACT_ABORT ON, SQL Server will not roll back any open transaction. Which is one more reason you should not
    permit command timeouts.
As for why this procedure sometimes take a long time, I would primarily suspect locking. When this occurs (but before the timeout elapses!), you could use my beta_lockinfo to see if there is any blocking going on. You find it here:

  • Authenticated Bind succeeds but "This server is not responding"

    Hey everyone,
I have a "from scratch"  magic triangle setup. AD has 2 DC's in a domain named domain.priv, 1 Lion (10.7.4) OD server successfully bound to AD and authentication is working flawlessly and fast! There are a handful of clients running SL which have mobile homes. There are also a handful of Lion clients with mobile homes.  DNS is running on AD.
Here's the rub. I can bind the SL clients to AD and OD just fine.  I do an authenticated bind to OD so that it creates the computer record.  On the Lion clients I bind them to AD without a problem and OD without and error message however once I bind Directory Utility has a red light stating "This server is not responding".  Search paths are correct, pinging works the server works. Because authentication and mobile homes are working I think it's fairly safe to assume DNS is setup properly.
For clarification, I have a script that does the binding but I promise I've tried every available option in dsconfigldap without success.  I've obviously tried using the GUI as well with no luck.  I've tried turning on SSL and no SSL.  I've tried enabling other security options without success as well. A work around I have found for the Lion clients was first do an authenticated bind to create the computer record and add it to appropriate computer groups then unbind the client and rebind UNauthenticated. Binding without authentication works perfectly and the client never loses contact with the OD server.
The reason I am posting this problem is because I am finally getting around to adding a secondary OD server for replication. I do not have the option to do an unauthenticated bind with OS Server and I have not found a way to successfully setup a replica without binding first, obviously.
I will post log files as needed but I have not found anything that is out of the ordinary except for:
9/20/12 7:34:16.560 PM servermgrd: -[PasswordServerPrefsObject getSearchBase]: Unable to locate search base: -1 Can't contact LDAP server
9/20/12 7:34:16.562 PM servermgrd: -[PasswordServerPrefsObject loadXMLData]: Unable to locate passwordserver config record's plist attribute: -1 Can't contact LDAP server
9/20/12 7:34:16.564 PM servermgrd: -[PasswordServerPrefsObject getSearchBase]: Unable to locate search base: -1 Can't contact LDAP server
9/20/12 7:34:16.567 PM servermgrd: -[PasswordServerPrefsObject saveXMLData]: ldap_modify_ext_s of the passwordserver config record's plist attribute: -1 Can't contact LDAP server
    It goes on like that...
Also, IPv6 is not setup on the AD DNS servers. Not sure that matters but I figured I should put it out there.
Any help or ideas of where to look would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks!
    Nick.

I ended up opening a ticket with Apple and the cause has been identified and even a "fix"!
Turns out that I skipped a vital step prior to binding to AD or setting up the OD Master; preparing the server to connect to another directory.
It's necessary to go to Server Admin, select Open Directory, Settings, then Change. Select "Connect to another directory" and then continue. After that the normal steps should be taken; Connect to AD with Directory Utility and then Create Open Directory Master with Server Admin.
Since I have a test enviroment that consists of 1 week old backups of the AD Domain Controllers and OD Master I decided to destroy the current OD and start over and testing this out.  Guess what? Everything works as it should. Bount a couple of Lion clients, tested management, and even created a replica with the GUI!
    Here's the rub...
In order to keep my current environment in tact (computers and computer groups) I exported all of the computers and computer groups from WGM prior to destroying the Open Directory Master. Once I completed setting everything up and created a new Directory Master I reimported the archive. With this method all currently I was back to square one. SL clients were bound, I could unbind and re-authenticaed bind with no problems. Lion clients however, had the same issue, could not bind with authentication. Fail.
I also tried exporting the computers and computer groups from WGM prior to destroying the Master. Set everything back up, imported the computers and computer groups. Nice part is that new binds both SL and Lion work wonderfully. However, any machines that were already bound don't work. I assume this is because even though the Kerberos realm has the same name, there has to be some differences in hash or whatever else Kerberos is using for encryption. There are log entries telling me about all the computers trying to connect that the server can't find in it's database.
    Where to go from here?
Not sure. How do I find out what is broken in the Archive? I know that 10.7 took out the option of -merge in slapconfig which may or may not have worked here. Knowing what the "Connect to another directory" option in Server Admin is doing would help out greatly. Not knowing why that simple step does changes everything is deflating to say the least.
I should be talking to an Apple Engineer tomorrow. I will post back.
    Nick.

  • VPN Problems - The L2TP-VPN server did not respond

Okay, so I read quite a few threads about this and can't really figure it out. Would be great if I can get some handholding.
I'm a complete newbie, trying to set up Server for home use. The VPN service seems to be running fine, but I just can't connect from the clients, it just keeps saying "The L2TP-VPN server did not respond". Here is a glimpse at my settings:
    - I have opened up all the relevant ports for UDP (500,1701,4500) and TCP (1723). But this is only required for the Server, right?
    - I don't have a domain name yet so just using my external IP. This is what I put in under VPN Host name in the Server and Client settings.
    - I login with username and password credentials for one of my network users as created in the Server. Format is [email protected] and the password is the same as the login password.
** I seem to get a 'authentication failed' error if I just use my local IP address... Not sure whats happening their, but before that I need to be able to connect to Server with the external IP!
Am I missing something? Why won't my client connect and that too when I'm at home?

To run a public VPN server behind an NAT gateway, you need to do the following:
    1. Give the gateway either a static external address or a dynamic DNS name. The latter must be a DNS record on a public DNS registrar, not on the server itself. Also in the latter case, you must run a background process to keep the DNS record up to date when your IP address changes.
    2. Give the VPN server a static address on the local network, and a hostname that is not in the top-level domain "local" (which is reserved for Bonjour.)
    3. Forward external UDP ports 500, 1701, and 4500 (for L2TP) and TCP port 1723 (for PPTP) to the corresponding ports on the VPN server.
If your router is an Apple device, select the Network tab in AirPort Utility and click Network Options. In the sheet that opens, check the box marked
    Allow incoming IPSec authentication
if it's not already checked, and save the change.
With a third-party router, there may be a similar setting.
    4. Configure any firewall in use to pass this traffic.
    5. Each client must have an address on a netblock that doesn't overlap the one assigned by the VPN endpoint. For example, if the endpoint assigns addresses in the 10.0.0.0/24 range, and the client has an address on a local network in the 10.0.1.0/24 range, that's OK, but if the local network is 10.0.1.0/16, there will be a conflict. To lessen the chance of such conflicts, it's best to assign addresses in a random sub-block of 10.0.0.0./0 with a 24-bit netmask.
    6. "Back to My Mac" on the server is incompatible with the VPN service.
If the server is directly connected to the Internet, see this blog post.

  • IVPN starts, but "the pptp-vpn server did not respond. Try reconnecting."

Hi. I am new to VPN, and I just got the software iVPN from Macserve, and the server starts successfully, using either PPTP or L2TP:
But the connections from my network do not connect. Every time I click on "connect" for either network connection, I get the error "the pptp-vpn server did not respond. Try reconnecting."
I set up both connections in my Network Preferences according to the support page (http://macserve.org.uk/support/ivpn/):
My Airport Express configurations have never given me any problems with my home network:
And I think that I forwarded the ports properly (even though my firewall is not activated):
    What am I doing wrong?

The Apple routers can be a problem on vpn passthrough.
Ports that are required for vpn are more complicated ..
See earlier post.. eg How do I set up L2TP VPN?
Ports for PPTP which you have opened manually.. are not valid for L2TP.. so you need several more ports opened.
The problematic ones are GRE and ESP which are protocols not ports.
I think you can pretty well assume the apple router running anything that has BTMM in it won't work.. since it will need the port 500 for itself.
On the old express try going back to 7.6.1 firmware.. I have to say I don't use the express.. lots of extreme and TC.. so their firmware issues are slightly different so firmware versions for the express are somewhat different.
Try not to use both port forwards (mapping if you must).. and DMZ.. they can fight each other.. if DMZ doesn't work it is better to turn it right off and forward all the required ports.
    Let me recommend a test.
Plug your cable modem directly into the computer running the VPN.. so you have no NAT router in front of it.
Pay attention to the local firewall that apple runs and what ports you will need to open on it to get vpn to work.. this is your best chance to get remote vpn running. If you fail with the public IP on the computer it will certainly fail through NAT.. and generally local firewall will be an issue.
You should of course test that a client in the local lan can connect by the vpn.. it is always worth testing from the easiest configuration to the most complex.
So local lan just as you have now..
Then direct cable connection to the computer.
Then NAT router.. but you can pretty well assume apple routers are going to be problematic because apple want to dally at BTMM using same ports as IPSEC uses for L2TP.

    <%= class.getHtmlCode() %>
the size of the form is variable (100Ko to 1,5Mo)
When i m using the proxy, sometimes the server does not respond when he do the affectation <%= class.getHtmlCode() %>.
If i call the page without proxy it work.
The problem seem not depending of the size of the form. Without proxy it always work. And with proxy sometimes the server does not work.

    Hi Leon,
If you are getting the ZENworks menu when holding down the Ctrl-Alt keys, PXE/PDHCP seems to be doing the right thing. Routing issues also don't seem the case as you can pull down the first PXE boot files....
The server running PXE, I assume it also runs the TFTP and Imaging services?
These services are also running a recent version of Zen 7 (IR3/IR4)? A little more info on these components and what server they are on would be good :)

  • OD replica, DNS secondary zone, server will not resolve itself

We are testing an OD replica to run in a separate location from our OD master. Master OD and DNS is all set and working as expected. Separate location network user connections and DNS all work as expected when calling the OD master and DNS primary zone. The OD replication works fine. I want to use the same machine as a DNS secondary zone getting its records from the DNS on the OD master. DNS secondary zone seems to pull the records from the primary without trouble.
In testing the secondary DNS without forwarders or backup DNS systems, known internal addresses are resolved by the clients correctly. The issue that I am trying to resolve is that server will not resolve itself. I have the System Preferences / Network / DNS pointed to 127.0.0.1. The DNS is resolving for the clients. Running changeip -checkhostname gives
"The DNS hostname is not available, please repair DNS and re-run this tool."
If I ask a client to browse to the server's web site it resolves fine and I get the default page as expected.
With all of the above in mind, binding a local client to the OD replica and pointing the clients' DNS at the DNS secondary zone results in failure of the bind and the client saying that the server is not responding. If the DNS on the client is pointed to the DNS primary zone, the bind works fine and everything behaves as expected. Pointing the Server to the DNS primary zone resolves the problem as well and it is able to resolve itself.
The problem is that if our connection to our primary site goes down, I want everything to function independently at the second location. If the primary DNS zone is gone the OD replica server cannot resolve itself and authenticaion then does not happen making the OD replica pointless.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

Found it. I did not copy the reverse mappings from the primary DNS zone.
    On the primary zone
    - In Server.app/DNS/ select show all records in the gear
    - double click reverse header for each subnet and indicate to allow zone transfer for the reverse records
    On the secondary zone
    - Add additional secondary zones for the exact title of each reverse record zone
    - example main records are FQDN.com
    - reverse records are 2.81.10.in-addr.arpa for the items in the 10.81.2.0 subnet
    OD replica now resolves itself.
