Air doesn't charge while sleeping

i find that with my macbook air, if i leave it plugged in but sleeping (closed) it does not charge as other macs do. does anyone know anything about this? thanks.

As far as I know, it should charge even when on sleep - over even when shut down, in fact.
I would take it back to the store to have it looked at and possibly get it replaced.

The computer does NOT charge the batteries while the computer is on. It DOES however charge (blinking red dot and power button) while the computer is off / asleep any thoughts? I pulled the battery (and turned the built-in off) over night and still same behaviour.

just verified with a 65W adapter and system still doesn't charge while on ....

  • Why my Mac book air doesn't charge straight away

Hi there, Are any people know why is my Mac book air doesn't charge straight away? Thanks!

    Can you clarify that?
I mean, I think it quite normal for the computer to take a second or two before charging begins. It could be the SMC making a determination whether charging is necessary, such that overcharging or "topping off" does not occur.
You should also know that if your battery is already at 95% or higher when you connect the charging adapter, the battery will not charge further. The battery must dip below 95%, for it to begin. This is to prevent "topping off", to minimize cycling, which is detrimental to battery longevity.

  • USB charge while sleeping

    Hey,
I notice in an add from Toshiba that their notebooks can now charge cell phones while the notebook is in sleep mode, and possibly even while turned off.  Would there be any way for a DV6-2064ca to be able to do something similar?  I sync my smartphone to my notebook while I'm home, but until I can figure out how to shut off the lid light, I'm putting the notebook into sleep mode over night and it doesn't charge my phone.\
If it will be in a future BIOS update, that'd be cool, I can wait...
    Len

My old Acer AspireOne running XP will charge devices in standby mode on battery power, but not my new HP Mini for some reason in sleep mode on battery power.
If I connect the Mini to the wall AC adapter and then put it into sleep it will charge the usb connected devices, but not if I put it to sleep while only on batter power. Here's the kicker. If I unplug the AC wall adapter after putting the computer to sleep; it will still charge my devices. This shows there isn't anything wrong with the hardware to make it unable to charge in standby there just isn't any setting to do so.
I've clicked on the only two setting I can to make it send power while on battery sleep, but it refuses to send power to the usb on battery. Disabling the computers ability to turn off the usb to save power in the power settings and in the device manager to not allow it there either but nothing works.
I'm SERIOUSLY considering taking this thing back on this soul issue since I only bought it a few days ago. I ride my bicycle to different states, and it is very important that I can charge my iPod to have my maps with me so I don't get lost.

  • IPod touch: charging while sleeping

iPod touch 1st gen. with OS 3.0
    Apple Universal Dock
    iMac 24" alu intel 3.06GHz with OS X 10.5.8
    A question that's puzzling me:
For most of the time that I've had my iPod touch and current iMac, I've left the iPod in the dock overnight, connected to the iMac which I put into sleep mode overnight.
For almost all of that time, the iPod has been fully charged in the morning, and if I wake the iPod while the iMac is asleep, the 'battery charging' icon has been displayed on the iPod.
Occasionally, I've found that the iPod was down to less that 20% charge in the morning, but that has been the exception.
Now, though, it seems that the iPod only charges when the iMac is awake. Leaving the iPod connected while the Mac is asleep seems to discharge the battery.
I've tried a full reset of the iPod, and restarted the iMac - no difference.
I've read here and elsewhere that it's normal for the iPod battery to be discharged if left connected to a sleeping Mac, but this has not been my experience until now.
Has anyone else found that their iPod used to charge while the computer was sleeping, but stopped doing so? If so, do you know why it stopped, and how to get back to the previous behaviour?
    Thanks.
    MDP.

However, the iPod touch has been charging successfully during sleep
Then the computer was not really asleep.
The drive may have spun down and the display has gone to sleep but if the processor is asleep, the USB is NOT powered (per the USB standard). If you are using a powered USB adapter, that will continue to charge but 5VDC from the iMac USB bus will not be available while the CPU is in sleep mode.
FireWire is powered while the computer is asleep.
    A bit of info -> <a href='http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1384">Charging your iPod battery</a>
"Important: iPod will stop charging if the computer, or portable computer, it's connected to enters standby, hibernation, or sleep mode. To charge iPod, connect it directly to a computer's USB port (not a keyboard) and make sure standby, hibernation, or sleep mode is turned off."

  • Ipod Touch doesn't charge while on, but charges while off?!

    Hi,
I have an Ipod Touch 3rd Gen that I got shortly before xmas last year.
The problem is that since the weekend it doesn't charge. I'm using a charger and my wife's ipod charges fine with it, so that rules out the charger.
My problem is rather peculiar, the Ipod doesn't charge when it is on. But when the battery is low and it powers down, then it starts to charge. The moment it has enough charge the Ipod powers up again (when the black screen with the nearly empty red battery and the thunder sign disappears and you can now slide and use the ipod) at this time the ipod STOPS charging.
I have tried up to restarting and no luck. I'm unconfortable going to for SW upgrade if the device is on such a critical power level. Any suggestions?
It is running OS 3 (can't tell exactly which version, I did update the last time around xmas).

An update on this: Tried plugging to the PC and it behaves the same way, what's worse is that it wasn't recognised. The PC detects an USB device but it can't work out its an Ipod.
Tried with the wifes (same model and SW) and it works fine with the PC. My guess is a faulty USB interface.

  • Macbook air doesn't wake from sleep

Since upgrading recently to Snow Lion my late 2010 Macbook Air won't wake from sleep mode. I have a second monitor. After sleeping I hbave to hit the ctrl-alt-power to get it to boot up which is does as a normal cold start. I have power sleep turned off. Ideas?

Later today I disconnnected my 17 inch monitor and put the mAcbook Air to sleep from the Applpe menu. 1st thing, it didn't want to go to sleep. Finally it did. About 3 hiours later I opened the lid or hit space (I forget which) and the screen lit up to where I had left it.
That woukld seem to suggest that somethihng is going on with the monitors preferences, or whatever, as before updating to Mountain Lion I had no sleep problems. What now? Reinstall Mountain Lion or?
    TIA, BIll

  • IPod nano (7th generation) doesn't charge while my 2nd generation nano does

I have a Pioneer car stereo in my car that has an iPod adapter. This unit is more than a few years old. It syncs and charges my 2nd generation nano, but it does not charge my new 7th generation nano (I have an Apple 30 pin to lightning adapter). It also doesn't charge my 3rd generation iPod touch. Does anybody have an idea short of getting one of those FM adapters?

Your car is set up to charge via the Firewire pin which Apple ceased supporting a few years ago. You can try this adapter: http://www.abt.com/product/61936/Scosche-IFWA.html?utm_source=scfroogle&utm_medi um=sc&utm_campaign=IFWA but there is no guarantee it will work.

  • New MBP 15" Loses Charge While Sleeping

I noticed some older posts regarding this issue, but nothing recent. Is anyone else still having this sort of problem?
I have a new MBP 15" 2.16Ghz with 2GB RAM -- upgraded from an old TiBook and Dell Inspiron laptop. Compared to both of my previous laptops, this machine loses a lot of battery life when in sleep.
At the end of the day at work, I close any unnessary programs, remove my USB mouse and then close the lid of my computer. After I see the "breathing" light start indicating sleep, I remove the power plug and pack it up. When I bring it back to the office the next morning after not using it at all, the battery will be between 85% to 90% charged. It would take days of sleep to lose the same amount of charge on my previous comoputers.
I downloaded the "deep sleep" widget, but I'd like to just have it work like my older computers.
    Any suggestions?

Craig, I don't see any significant difference between my MBP and PB G4s in battery drain while in the sleep mode. With one notable exception. If I leave the MBP in sleep mode for a long time, so that the battery is completely drained, I can still recover anything in memory that hadn't been saved. That's good. And that's because the state of the memory was saved to disk before the pulsing "Sleep" light starts.
I wouldn't worry about it. 85- 90% readings may not be all that accurate or significant in actual runtime on battery.

  • My ipad says it isn't charging while connected to my computer. What's wrong?

For some reason my ipad doesn't charge while connected to any of my computers. It isn't the cord because it charges through the wall by itself as well as on my keyboard dock. Any ideas?

    http://www.apple.com/batteries/ipad.html
    Charging Tips
The quickest way to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter. When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge, but only when it's in sleep mode. Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.

  • MacBook Air (Mid 2011) doesn't charge

I have a MacBook Air (Mid 2011) and it won't charge the battery when I plug it to the wall adapter.
No matter what i do the light on the L shaped connector magsafe doesnt light up.
After a few tries, a few minutes, or even a few hours it just works..and I don't know why, or what to do to make it work all the time.
I tried resetting the SMC (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964), followed every step, but it doesn't help.
I dont know if the problem is in the MagSafe Power Adapter, or if it is in the MacBook Air MagSafe Connector.
Here is a video of me trying to connect it to the Power Adapter without success:
    http://youtu.be/3rRko1VncoE
Then 30 minutes later it is working again:
    http://youtu.be/j4x3YxWZzAA
This time was 30 minutes, but there sometiimes is much, much longer before I get it to work..
    What sloud i do?
My mac is still in the warranty period. If i take it to an Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP), will they change the faulty component for free?
(Where I live, in portugal, there are no official Apple Stores..so i can't go to one).

I also have a mid '11 Macbook Air and this exact same thing is happening to me with the charger. Tonight scared me because it would not start charging for a long time. Fortunately I still had battery power left.
Guess I need to go to the Apple Store
I did not have the same problem again..don't know why, but here is what I think:
The mac doesn't charge because it doesn't recognise the charger or the other way around..
Last time this happened I just let the computer connected to the charger, and the charger plugged in the wall, and left it there overnight. The next morning it was fully charged, with the green light on the connector.
After this, there was only 2/3 times that when I plugged the charger it wouldn't do anything, so I just started working normaly on the mac and after a few minutes it started to charge. That first time it took 30 minutes to start. On another ocasion it only took 2 minutes. And after that was just a few seconds. Now it is behaving normaly. When I plug it, the connector turns green after 1/2 seconds.
So, if you have this problem, try just leaving it there..while you work on it, or while you sleep. It seems eventually it will start working. In my case it "solved" the problem, as it isn't happening anymore.. (I hope forever..)
It's not really a solution..but if it works for you too, great! Good luck!

  • Air drank cup of tea. Now it doesn't charge with it's own charger and 2 keys got broken.

    Hey guys.
My wife spilled a cup of tea with sugar on her Air. Now it doesn't charge with it's own charger (14.5V, 3.1A) but it does with macbook pro's charger (18.5V, 4.6A). This is weird. Our local "certified" reseller (we don't have Apple Store in out country) suggested to avoid fixing it, since they could not identify the problem. I think they're lame but I'm ok with uncomfy charging. But there's still 2 keys not workng. The comma and period keys. These are quite important and used very frequently. Resseler suggested to replace keboard, but €250 is a bit pricey.
So what I was thinking — to get them fixed by myself. This is apparently circute closing, which in theory is easy to fix. I have experience disassembling our mid 2011 Air. Not the keyboard, but I did clean the logic board and most of other compartments.
What do you think? Does it work disasembling the front cover from the keyboard and fix it? Are they any downfalls assembling it back?
    Thanks.
    Alex.

The problem here is going to be twofold - getting the needed part(s) and making sure the MacBook Air will work long term after any repair you do.
Apple does not sell repair parts to consumers, so you will need to look into a used parts market. Be sure you get the same exact model.
One big problem is that the MBA has a soft-cell battery.  If someone that doesn't know what they're doing punctures, squeezes, flexes, or even looks at the battery the wrong way, it could literally blow up in their face.
You may end up with a totally non-functional MBA even after spending money on the parts and have nothing to show for your efforts.
If you can, at least you should be able to use the computer as it is now with an external keyboard. That might be a better solution.
    Best of luck.

  • Why won't my iPad air charge anymore? I bought a new cable but it still doesn't charge, it is only 3 months old.

If you are still having problems with your iPad, it is still under AppleCare.
Bring it into an Apple Store to have it diagnosed and repaired under warranty.

  • My mac book air doesn't always charge

my mac book air doesn't always charge. The charger doesn't always light up. Please advise.

unlikely your charger is bad, rather it sounds as if your IO BOARD may be defective, perform a SMC reset and re-verify same.
    SMC reset
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.
If same contact Apple for full in shop diagnostic and possible parts replacement.
