Air Drop missing on iMac 20"

Hi guys, after I installed Lion on my MacPro, my wife did the same on her iMac 20". The problem is that she cannot see Air Drop like is showing on my MacPro.
What could be the cause?
Thanks.

Have you seen this at the bottom of the description for Lion in the App Store:
AirDrop is supported on the following Mac models: Macbook Pro (late 2008 or newer), MacBook Air (late 2010 or newer), MacBook (Late 2008 or newer), iMac (early 2009 or newer), Mac mini (mid 2010 or newer), Mac Pro (early 2009 with AirportExtreme card and mid 2010 or newer).
Hope this helps.

  • Air Drop and the iMac

I have 3 Macs. Air Drop appears on and functions on two of them - the MacBook Air and the Powerbook. But Air Drop does not appear at all on the iMac. It is not to be found in Finder nor through a search. Why might this be?

That's a kernel panic and indicates some sort of problem either with the computer's hardware or software. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on diagnosing kernel panics. It would help to post the panic log: Mac OS X- How to log a kernel panic.
Meanwhile, try booting the computers into Safe Mode then restarting normally. If this is simply a disk repair or cache file problem then this may fix it.
You can also try creating a new admin account on each computer then booting into the new account. This would help determine if the problem is related to a bad file in the user accounts.

I have an iPhone 5 with the air drop option in the control center, however there's no such option on my brand new iPad.  Haven't seen any forum entries on how to make it appear, help?

Makes sure your computer is on the following list.
Only the following Apple computers are able to take advantage of the Air Drop feature:

MacBook Air (Late 2010 or newer)

Okay, as I'm working through this I see that I have to add the "Admin" account to each file with "read only" permission.  Simply changing the "everyone" account access does nothing.
So how do I change the permissions settings in iPhoto or Aperture to give each exported file the desired permissions?  I cannot locate a setting in the iPhoto or Aperture applications.
Also, I added a password to the user account.  It did not change how files are output.

  • Air Drop not in Sidebar (late 2011 iMac)

I have an iMac later 2011. When I originally used it Air Drop was on the Sidebar. However, I have not seen it in the recent updates. Now I have a MBP with Air Drop and really need to use it.
Howe can I get Air Drop back on the iMac?

This should have been in Mountain Lion, as both computers have ML. I reposted there. If necessary, can someone delete this post?

  • HT4783 I know air drop is enabled on this iMac, but it's not appearing in the finder window on my user account.  Is there a way to enable it for my user account?

I'm on an imac running mountain lion.  I know it has air drop on it, but it's not showing up in the finder window for my user account.  How can I get it to show up on my user account?  And yes, I do have administrator rights.

Which os are you using on your computer?

  • I thought Air Drop would work between my iPad air and macbook pro running Mavericks

The air drop on the Ipad seems to only be useful with ipads and iphones (ios7).  Am I missing something?

You are not missing anything. This is currently how it is with AirDrop. It will only work from iOS to iOS or Mavericks to Mavericks. Not iOS to Mavericks or vice versa.

  • HT4783 why is my desk top mac not appearing in my mac air air drop window? both wifi right next to each other

why can't i see my imac on my mac air when i am using air drop on both with a wifi connection ,both same , both nearby?

    Hello clevpt,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information on this, take a look at:
OS X Mavericks: Share your files with others near you
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14315
To see other people nearby, click the AirDrop icon in the sidebar of a Finder window. The other people must also click the AirDrop icon on their computers.
    Best of luck,
    Mario

  • Question about air drop.

I have an iMac and mac book pro and it is great to be able to air drop files from one to the other. Does anyone know of a way to air drop (or other means) to transfer iPhoto contents from one computer to the other?

Works here in Aperture (so should also work in iPhoto) -  just drag a photo out of that and drop onto a machine in Air Drop, done. Cheers!

  • Air Drop Issue

ive just put lion on all 3 of my Mac's, My Unibody Mac Mini and Mac Book Pro give me the otion for air drop but my 2008 Mac Book dont? any ideas

Mabe you guys can help me....
My Pro is mid-2007 so AirDop is out but I am still having network issues since the Lion install on both machines. I did post this a couple of days ago in Lion Newtorking & got reads but no replies. Maybe you guys can help:
I cannot get my MacPro to mount onto my macbook pro. I can get to the drives on my MacPro using CMD+K afp, but need the drives to show up on the desktop. When I try to connect it simply says, 'connection failed'.
    1. I have re-checked my 'sharing' setting on both computers. my admin login has read & write access on both computers. Is there a new setting issue I am missing with the AirDrop?
2, I am using Belkin wirelkess router from the Pro & WiFi on the macbook. The macbook show the AirDrop in the Finder sidebar so it is there but obviously not on the Pro.
    3. i have tried using the admin logins for both computers on the macbook to gain access, it did not work.
    4. when i access them using CMD+K, they do not mount to the desktop nor the finder window sidebar.
I hope you guys can help. This is taking too much time to work around.
