Air Inlet sensor problem

I am beginning to wonder if my problem is linked to others on the forum relating to unexpected fan noise. After my G5 has been to sleep, Temperature Monitor shows no reading for the Main Logic Board Air Inlet Sensor. Could this be a reason for the fans kicking in? After rebooting, the sensor displays normally and the fans run at their normal speed. I have read elsewhere that this has been a problem for G5s since 2005 – the only workaround seems to be to not sleep the Mac. Hardly an energy-efficient solution for such a supposedly green company. Does anyone know of a better solution?

Convince yourself what you may, but many people with G5s have absolutely no problem whatsoever. This is a hospital ward. You'd hardly expect healthy people to come into a hospital and rant about how healthy they are. That would just be insensitive. Lemons do occur. If you are convinced about it being some unfixed OS issue, you'll never get to a solution. Preconceptions cloud ideas and prevent troubleshooting from taking place.
Apple has not made all its sensor readings available to the general public. We can't say why, since no one knows. If the developer has complained and received no response one could just as easily guess it is due to Apple's desiring to prevent people from overheating their machines unnecessarily by turning off the fans at the wrong time, as making equipment get out of sync if they are run when they aren't supposed to. Regardless of the actual reason why, if you are seeing some behavior that appears to be hardware related, run the hardware test that came with your machine. If it detects nothing, and no third party cards are installed, and no third party peripherals are there, and the system still misbehaves with no third party software, I'd guess possibly it is some item the consumer available hardware test is not able to detect. The most common is RAM. RAM can go bad at anytime, and create issues for the machine. The next most common would be some sensor that only an authorized technician knows how to detect if it has gone wrong.

  • GPU diode sensor problem?

    The GPU diode temperature is -128C  (temperature monitor) and blank (istatpro).
    After some heavy use, the two programs are showing some readings, but the GPU diode temperature is much lower than the others (CPU, Heatsink, etc).
    Is this a problem of the sensor?
    (macbookpro 17”, early 2011).
    Thnxs for your help.

    Hi,
    I know this is an old thread - but I came across it while searching for info as to why my precious MBP had the same issue. I believe I may have an answer, so wanted to post.
    I noticed that the bug is not related to iStat as every other temp app I have used says the same thing. I also know it's not a sensor problem as I have run the Apple diag disk and a friend of mine who works in an Apple shop took a look and he says there's no problem either.
    I downloaded gfxcardstatus as suggested in this thread, and I can see that when using the intel HD card, the temp is ~110c, when using the 330M it's ~50c, but here's the weird thing - when I try to switch to intel when certain apps are running, I get a warning saying that I cannot do this. If you click on the [Why?] button, you are taken to an explanation on the author's site, which says that the discreet card is never really turned off when certain apps are running - ie. 2 cards.... so I believe that the ~110c is a COMBINED reading for both cards which are running together but should not be. It's quite plausible that the intel HD would be running at ~60c, so there's your 110c.
    Here's a pic of the authors site explaining the issue -
    The best option would appear to be to keep it on the discreet card.
    I hope this helps put other's minds at rest!!
    PS. For me, the trigger apps are Little Snitch and iStat Menus.

    Hey iWeb plubishing problems,
    I would first check to make sure that you meet the system requirements for OS X to support Documents in the Cloud. For that your Mac’s needs to be running at least OS X Lion 10.7.5 or later to make sure that everything syncs. Take a look at the article below for more information.

  • Air and sqlite problem - cumulating results

    Hi,
    I got problem with sqlite in air.
    The problem is that sqlStmt.getResult().data is gathering data from separate Select statements, when  it should be separate results. As in this example, where I call "select" function once, and AFTER geting it's result I call it again with different query.
    public function select(q:String):void {
    conn.open(dbFile);
    sqlStmt.addEventListener(SQLEvent.RESULT,selectComplete);
    sqlStmt.text = q;
    sqlStmt.execute();
    private function selectComplete(e:SQLEvent):void {
    oSqlReturn = sqlStmt.getResult().data;          //this is where sqlStmt.getResult().data remembers previous results and adds current ones to the array.
    conn.close();                                                  //but here sqlStmt.getResult() is null
    sqlStmt.removeEventListener(SQLEvent.RESULT,selectComplete);
    So  after second Select returns I got sqlStmt.getResult().data with results from the first and the second statement.
    Maybe one of You had some simmilar problem and is able to help me with this.

    Thanks for help. It is recomended to use different instances of SQLStatement. But it wasn't the case.
    I changed to asynchronious connection and I added SQLMode and now it works.
    So instead of
    conn.open(dbFile)
    now I got this:
    conn.openAsync(dbFile,SQLMode.UPDATE);
    So I think that the problem was becouse I was listening to result events of synchronious connection.

  • Macbook air Shut down problem

    Hi everyone,
    I used to have the shut down problem with my Macbook air. I have an 11" Later 2011 Macbook air.
    The problem did not go away after updating to Mountain lion.
    I just realized that although I was closing all programs, I was not ejecting my 3G modem/dongle.
    Once I ejected it before commanding it to shut down, it did shut down properly.
    I thought I should share it with you. May be there is a program that has not been closed or a devise that has not been unplugged/ejected properly and is restricting the shut down.
    It worked for me. Hope it will work for you.
    Enjoy your Mac.

  • Systray icon in AIR strange bitmap problem

    Hi there i recently tried to have one of my apps docked to systray instead of taskbar so i've used pretty much the examples floating around and everything went smoothly except the icon itself. I used standard 16x16 png file and it got scrambled looks like each 4th line is shown or something like that. So i've tried with JPG and ended with pure code generated bitmap data but always with the same result. Here is a screenshot of my systray when using new BitmapData(16,16,false,0xFF0000) and assigning it to the bitmaps array of the icon.
    To the left is my AIR application icon which should be 16x16 sized red square however once again glitched. To the right is the classic gtalk icon.
    Everything else except the graphics itself works perfectly.
    Any ideas of whats going on? Or is this some kind of bug in the latest AIR? By the way i am using AIR 2.5
    Thank you.

    Ok did further testing and it seems to be AIR 2.5 problem only. In previous AIR the bitmap is displayed correctly, so i've filed a bug report to Adobe.

  • Will AIR has any problems in the future with Android?

    Will AIR has any problems in the future with Android?
    If we are experienced in flash, is it better to do the mobile work with AIR or HTML5?
    But we are doing flash only so that we may face problems if we faced any bugs, is it expected to have any bugs or complexities, we can do flash with AS3 and we will depend on flash in publishing

    Do you mean you dropped the iPad Air?  Is it working properly?  Is the screen damaged?
    If it is working properly and has no signs of damage, it is probably ok.

  • Is apple ever going to respond to proximity sensor problems?

    apple has responded to the antenna problem, how about this one? i HATE my iphone becaus eof the proximity sensor problem. i hang up on calls all the time.

    I had the same problem. I took it to the Apple Store. The man helping me said that the sensor was hardware. No software fix he was aware of. I demonstrated the problem to him. He brought out a store phone to compare to. He simply said "I'm sold" and he brought me a new phone immediately. He also placed mine in a special case with my name printed out on the label to be sent to Apple so that they could examine the phone and try to learn more. Indeed, I believe that they are concerned, but I also believe that they will have to have more returns before it becomes a serious issue to them. By the way, my new phone is "better" but I still occasionally "Cheek dial" or hang up on people. I have found that sliding the phone back a bit so that my ear canal is not directly over the sensor works, and I can still hear the call. Hopefully a software fix WILL resolve this, since a reset has helped some.

  • DC In Proximity Air Flow - sensor is red in iStat

    Hi,
    I have a MacBook Pro Retina that is almost two years old.  Have 768GB SSD and 16GB.
    I run iStat and look at it every once in a while (it is a very good tool for those that do not know).  I have noticed the "DC In Proximity Air Flow" stat is red and fluctuates between 117 and 119, but it stays red.  I manually set fan speed to to high see if I could lower it and was able to get it to 116 and it turned black.   As soon as I let the MacBook go back to normal operation, it jumped back to 117 and is red again.
    What is the "DC In Proximity Air Flow" sensor and how can I make sure the airway is clean?  I was thinking about opening up the back and cleaning out what I can, but I would prefer not to open her up.
    Please let me know what you think, where it is, and what it does!
    Thanks!
    -Kirk

    Same exact issue here - iStat 5 (latest version), DC In Proximity Air Flow 118F (48C). Showing red. I don't know if this has been going on for a while, or if it's associated with the iStat upgrade I just bought, or the update I just downloaded today. It's the first time I've ever seen red in the sensors section.

    First time in my life, I planned to buy a ipad Air. After seeing ipad Air having screen problems in the community, dropped my plan. Shall I go for for samsung Note 10.1 2014 edition otherwise wait for ipad Air 2.

    For every iPad Air with screen problems there's a million that work fine.. If you buy at the Apple Store take a good long look and hand it back if it's not right.

  • OSX-software for USB Air Quality Sensor ?

    I'm trying to find MacOSX-compatible software to read the data-output of the iAQ 77-0900 Indoor Air Quality Monitor USB-stick by AppliedSensor.
    http://www.appliedsensor.com/products/indoor-air-monitor.html
    This product is sold under variuos names and brands, e.g. :
    Volcraft CO-20 USB
    MSR CO2 Air Guard USB
    Butterfly Indoor Air Monitor USB
    Dwyer AQStick model ASQ-1
    eNasco Indoor Air monitor USB
    FRAKTA co2-Air Gard USB
    Sentinel-Haus Institut RaumluftWächter
    ...but they all have only one piece of compatible software : AirMonitor for Windows-PC
    I've not been able to find compatible sotware for OSX, but a similar & compatible piece of software does exist for Linux :
    http://code.google.com/p/airsensor-linux-usb/wiki/About
    Can anyone help me to read-out the data from the Air Quality Sensor USB-stick from an Intel-Mac ?
    Thanks !

    Hi Sebastiaan,
    Thanks for your reply and your directions.
    I am not a developer, and I do not like messing around in the Terminal.
    So when I got an error-like warning when I entered the first sudo-command, I did not procede with your directions.
    But... if you give me a link where I can download the app you've compiled, I'm willing to test it.
    (I have xCode and XQuartz installed)
    Furthermore... I did do some other things that might be of interest :
    1- I found an MacOSX-compatible Java-app called "DataExplorer", that might do the trick, but I couldn't get it to run properly :
    http://www.nongnu.org/dataexplorer/#downloading
    2- I managed stand-alone apps using both WineBottler and WineSkin ; they both run, but refuse to see the USB-stick when it's pluged-in...
    3- I was also able to install the windows-app on WinOnX, but I get the same error there... the app runs, but it doesn't detect the USB-stick either...
    Thanks for your help !

  • I currently have an iphone that i connect to my mac air to download music, i have now bought a nano for my wife can we use both devices on the same air without any problems???

    i currently have an iphone that i connect to my mac air to download music, i have now bought a nano for my wife can we use both devices on the same air without any problems???

    My wife and I both have the iPhone 4 and it's actually pretty simple. Add another user on your MBA (her) and she can use the other iTunes when she is logged in. The iTunes is empty and will erase her iPhone, so be sure that she syncs her iPhone, then back up her library onto a portable media device like I did (SD Card) and reload it onto her empty iTunes on your MBA before she attempts to sync with it.
    Works well...

  • IMac fan / sensor problem

    Hello!
    Some days ago I automatically sent my iMac to sleep via the "Energy Saver --> Schedule" menu in the systems preferences. When I woke it up the next morning, the CPU fan didn't just blow once and ran quietly in the background as usual, but it keeps blowing at max. speed which is really loud and annoying.
    So I went to search for the problem and found it right away possibly: the GPU heatsink temperature sensor constantly reports 126-127 degrees Celsius, which is quite impossible I ran the quick hardware test with the startup disk and got the following error code: 4SNS/1/40000000: TG0H-127.875 - which indicates a sensor problem as well I think.
    My question is, if there is anything I can do to regulate the fan or the sensor by software. All I found was several programs that can regulate the minimum rotation per minute, but not change the maximum. As there isn't really much damaged (as far as I know now just one out of three GPU sensors), it would be really annoying to have to let it repaired. I'm not playing graphics intensive games, so it won't ever get too hot.
    Anyway, right as it is now, it just freaks me out and just leaving it that way is clearly not an option.
    Thanks for your help
    Michael

    Yes I see what you mean all the other temps are fine so I think your original guess of a sensor problem is probably right. You are covered by warranty so I'd contact Apple to complain about it. BTW if you haven't already I would recommend purchasing AppleCare before your 1 year warranty is up.
