AIR INSTALLER BUILDING IN FLEX BUIDLER
How can i generate a air installer for a flex project build in flex builder?
Follow the steps below:
1) Select your Project in FlexBuilder and ---then go to Project >> Export Release Build in FlexBuilder IDE You will see a window getting opened as shown below
2) In the window leave all the options same and click next you will see the below window.
3) In the window now click Create..button . You will get the below window. Fill the information in the TextBoxes given(Any dummy info).
Give any name for the Save as option and save the certificate in some location by clicking the browse button and then click OK and then click Finish.
That's it you are done...You can now see the installer being created in your application project folder as yourappname.air

Problem creating an AIR installer (.exe) from a .fla file.
Hey everyone,
I am trying to create an Adobe AIR installer(.exe). I already
created the .fla file and tested it. It didn't seem to work and
gave me the error of
"You cannot debug this SWF because it does not contain
ActionScript" and acc. to this link
http://www.actionscript.org/forums/archive/index.php3/t-168154.html
I created a new environment variable called JAVA_TOOL_OPTIONS
of -Xmx256M. And then the .fla file seemed to work . Apparently
there is too much code in my .fla file with as many as 20 videos
(.flv) and lot of radio-buttons ( I mean A lot of them !!! )...
Now with the .fla file working, when I am trying to create an
AIR installer it is throwing the error,
" Error creating AIR file. Picked up JAVA_TOOL_OPTIONS: -Xmx256M
so I am not able to create the AIR Installer. and If I change
back the -Xmx 256M then my .fla file won't work. So what do I do
now ? I somehow removed the above -Xmx 256M variable and created a
AIR installer with a self-signed certificate and when I try to
install that AIR installer, I get another error message,
"The application could not be installed. Try installing it
again. If the problem persists, contact the application author.
Error# 0".
So I have 2 questions:
1. how do I create this AIR installer(.exe) and make it work
as a .exe file and run it without having Adobe flash CS3 installed
on another computer and please help me in my case as above.
2. Also, would I need to buy a digital certificate to create
the AIR installer or can I use a self-signed certificate to create
an AIR installer and use it to install the AIR application on a few
computers ? Please help

Adobe AIR installation problem
I've been trying to update my AIR install from version 1.0.8.4990 to 2.6.0.19140 but when I try to do so I get an error stating that it might not be allowed by the administrator, even though I am the admin.

What's the best way to mix AIR 14 and the Flex 3.5 SDK and use new AIR features?
I am returning to development of a popular desktop AIR app, after about 4 years of no code changes. Both AIR and Flex have actively moved forward during my coding absence, and it is time to play catch up.
When last built, the app was using Flex 3.5 and AIR 2.6.
End Goal - I want my app to look good on high density displays
I'd like to keep Flex version at 3.5, but use the newer version of AIR, to render more clearly on high density displays (Retina on OSX and hiDPI on Win8).
The pixel doubling performed by the "compatibility" modes of OSX.Retina or Win8.hiDPI make my app look pretty gross, and the customer base is starting to complain.
While I may eventually switch over to the Apache Flex SDK to bring the application design into the current state, my customer base just doesn't care right now. They like the current app, but want it to work, out-of-the-box, on high density displays.
So I need to limit my scope to changing only the AIR SDK, not the Flex SDK at this time.
Step 1 - Overlaying AIR14 SDK on Flex 3.5
I followed the official generic overlay instructions here, and that worked well enough. I named my hybrid SDK folder "3.5.0.AIR14". I have been able to recompile, run, and verify my app using the hybrid SDK. (my app is compiled and packaged from an ant script, using the Antennae framework. I had already switch SDKs a number of times over the initial course of development, so pointing my project to a new SDK was pretty simple enough.
Step 2 - Updating the app.xml descriptor
This part was also easy. I used the templates\air\descriptor-template.xml as a starting point, customizing the name, app id, and folders. Now my app descriptor is correctly based on the <application xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/air/application/14.0"> namespace.
Step 3 - Enabling Retina/hiDPI support - Help??
I added <requestedDisplayResolution>high</requestedDisplayResolution> to the <initialWindow> tag of the app descriptor, but that made no difference. The app compiles, installs, and runs, but pixel doubling is still occurring and the app looks gross.
I also tried setting the SWF version to 25, according to the official overlay guide. This proved to be more difficult. The official overlay guide suggests setting the -swf-version=25 compiler option, but that option is not supported by the Flex 3.5 compiler. So all I had to try was using the legacy -target-player=25 compiler option. That setting was accepted by the compiler, and it produced a SWF with byte offset 0x3 == 0x19 (25 dec), so that appears to be right.
But -target-player=25 didn't have any effect either.
Is setting the SWF version even required? Isn't the whole point of using the AIR 14 namespace in the app descriptor the way of telling the compiler "I want to use all features of the AIR 14 release". Why do I need to tell the compiler multiple times to use all the features of the SDK I'm compiling with? It just seems weird to me.
Have I missed a secret setting somewhere?
How can I tell the AIR runtime to simply run as pixel-dense as possible? When the workarounds listed below are performed, my app looks fantastic on high-density displays. But its the pixel scaling that is making everything look bad, and I desperately want to get this fixed.
Workarounds?
On Windows 8+, we are asking our users to enable the "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings" checkbox on the AIR application shortcut. This works, but is a confusing setting for average users to discover. Most just give up in frustration.
On OSX, we can't even disable Retina mode on a per-application basis, its all or nothing, so that's even worse. SwitchResX will automatically switch resolutions based on the selected app, but that's a pretty clunky (and non-free) workaround too.
Any other workaround ideas are appreciated too.
Cheers,
DougIt took me a while to figure out (without much help from Adobe, grrr!), since some internet writeups were terse and implied somehow that AIR's Retina support (setting your app descriptor's <initialWindow/requestedDisplayResolution> to high) would also work on Windows. They don't.
On OSX, the steps to disable pixel-doubling are:
update your app descriptor to AIR 14
set initialWindow/requestedDisplayResolution = high
compile with SWF version 25 or greater
vector assets, including text, will scale automatically
you'll need to replace your bitmap assets with Retina-quality bitmaps as appropriate
when running on a Retina display, you will see stage.contentsScaleFactor=2. It will be 1 for non-Retina displays.
On Windows, the pixel-doubling kicks in when you have a HiDPI scaling set to about 150% or greater (hiDPI scaling was introduced in Win7). There is no way to detect from within an AIR app when Windows is doing its HiDPI scaling. stage.contentsScaleFactor is always 1, under all configurations.
The only thing you can do for AIR apps on Windows is explicitly disable display scaling (like you have done) and update your app to manually scale all UI elements at runtime (that's really gross and hard, and it what I working on right now).
For my app, I updated our Windows installer to set the registry to disable hiDPI scaling, for all users, just for our app. Here's how you do that:
Key = HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Layers
Name = <fullPathToYourExe>
Type = REG_SZ
Value = "~ HIDPIAWARE" (without the quotes, tilde space HIDPIAWARE)
That should be set in the full 64-bit registry, not the Wow32Node registry, even if your app is a 32-bit app (which all AIR apps are). If your installer is a 32-bit app (mine was), you may need to jump through some hoops to have it affect the 64-bit registry hive from a 32-bit process.
If you only want to change the setting for the current user (not all users), the KEY root is HKEY_CURRENT_USER instead of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
If you don't have an explicit installer for your AIR app (ie. if you are deploying from the web via a badge installer), then you're even more messed up, and you will need to tell your users to disable the scaling manually.
I know, it's a total pain. I hope this helps.
Cheers,
Doug

Adobe air installer problem. app behaving strange
Hi all
i developed a desktop app in flex..In this i set the alpha of a text input /text area to alpha=0
.the app is behaving different..on different pc's..i executed to debug the app on my pc on setting the alpha=0 for text input the background becomes transparent and i was able to write text with alpha not effecting the text in the text input...then i copy the code to another pc install the adobe air installer and debug the code again ..now what i see was lil strange that the alpha property also effects the text contained in the text input...
chk the link below too
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/526301?tstart=0
can any body tell me whats happening or it depends upon the adobe air installer .
I installed the adobe air installer on my pc 1 and a half month back..on the other pc i installed 2 weeks back..
where is the problem?
thanksIf you need it for the usage meter, instructions here > http://usagemeterapp.comcast.net/air.html

Bug in flash builder 4? ( export air release build )
Hi every one, I am working on a air application using flash builder 4. I tried to export an air release build and I chose my certificate and every thing seemed to be fine, but whrn I clicked on finish button, nothing happend!! I mean it did not do anything, no error message, nothing. after a lot of time I found out on of my images in assets folder starts with space. that was it!! flex 4 could not export the release build for that reason !!just make sure your file names do not start with space!!
Anyways I thought to post it here maybe it saves some time for someone.
cheersI had the same issue trying to export an air project:
Start to export the release then nothing append, no .air file generated, and the compiler asking me again and again to choose files to be exported.
The issue came from project-app.xml file containing leading space within tags.
For instance <systemChrome> none </systemChrome> must be change to <systemChrome>none</systemChrome>. (Note the spaces around "none").
The workspace log file might help in case of silent failure. flexWorkspace/.metedata/.log.

Adobe AIR installation took away 10 gb of hard drive space. Why?
Hello all,
I recently downloaded the Mac app You Need a Budget (YNAB). The app told me it needed to install Adobe AIR, which I allowed it to do. Since installing Adobe AIR, the amount of empty hard drive space I have decreased from about 16 gb to 4.5 gb. Furthermore, my entire system is running really slowly and I am concerned that it could crash at any time. I used a program called App Zapper to delete Adobe AIR, but the lack of hard drive space the Adobe AIR installation caused persists.
I had this happen once before with a previous version of Adobe AIR, and uninstalled that as well. I would like to continue using the YNAB program, but not if it is going to cause my hard drive to lose 10 gb of space and to slow down significantly. Does anyone have any advice? Thank you.
Best,
Anne-MarieHello Anne-Marie,
AIR runtime is Adobe's software solution that 3rd party software vendor (YNAB) used to build their software. It does not necessarily mean that AIR runtime itself took 10Gb of your hard drive - there could be other possible cases (like incorrect software update routine that cannot delete temporary files, some issue strictly specific to your machine configuration, etc, etc).
They have general topic support forum for customers:
http://www.youneedabudget.com/forum/ynab-f38/
with section to post technical difficulties when using software:
http://www.youneedabudget.com/forum/technical-difficulties-f74/
kind regards,

Adobe AIR Installation Failure on Fedora 10 64-bit: "cannot enable executable stack"
Hi:
I followed instructions for installing Adobe AIR 1.5 on 64-bit Fedora 10 at <http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/408/kb408084.html#Installing_AIR_1.5_on_64-bit_Fedora_10>. However, upon completing yum installs, and trying to install AIR after making it executable, I get:
$ ./AdobeAIRInstaller.bin
Error loading the runtime (/tmp/air.pe4fqq/build/opt/Adobe AIR/Versions/1.0/libCore.so: cannot enable executable stack as shared object requires: Permission denied)
Trying to install as root gives the same result.
Appreciate your help. Thank you.The problem is that SELinux blocks executable stack usage. (The REAL problem may actually be that Adobe's binary allows for executable stack usage). I encountered the same error on 32-bit Fedora 12. To fix it:
# chmod +x AdobeAIRInstaller.bin
# setsebool -P allow_execstack=1
# ./AdobeAIRInstaller.bin
Hope that does it for you. -
Air 3.7 for Flex on mac
It sounds so simple and probably should be, but I just spend 3 hours trying to get the most basic setup running and I'm lost in the mess Adobe created. I followed a couple of tutorials and documents but none seem to be working.
All I want is to generate a Flex for mobile project with the latest Air 3.7 SDK.
I tried steps to replace the airsdk that is now deeply hidden in flashbuilders eclipse folders. That only allowed me to create an actionscript for mobile project with 3.7, but not a Flex project.
I tried to download the Air sdk that supposed to be for flex developers (http://airdownload.adobe.com/air/mac/download/latest/AdobeAIRSDK.tbz2). I overlayed these files into an existing Flex 4.6.0 folder. The result was that Flashbuilder didn't recognize the folder as a Flex SDK anymore.
I tried the latter step on a PC and it work so far that I can compile and debug flex for mobile apps on the ipad (with fast mode). Standard mode and export release build end in an never ending packaging process (1.5 hours now for a hello world app and still at 0%)
Any help would be much appreciated. Thank youHi,
The Apache Flex project has a few scripts that will help you on OSX.
This will dowload and check the MD5 hashed of all playerglobal.swcs into a Flex SDK.
http://svn.apache.org/viewvc/flex/sdk/branches/develop/ide/checkAllPlayerGlobals.sh?view=m arkup
This will download and inject any version of the AIR SDK into a Flex SDK.
http://svn.apache.org/viewvc/flex/sdk/branches/develop/ide/addAIRtoSDK.sh?view=markup
The latest versions in the Git develop branch support AIR 3.7 (but harder to provide links to - sorry).
Thanks,

Unable to launch adobe story app, because adobe air installer fails
Hi,
I am having problems launching the adobe story app. Everytime I try to open it it tries to update and it then launches the adobe air installer which always fails and I get the following message: Sorry, an error has occurred. The application could not be installed because the installer file is damaged. Try obtaining a new installer file from the application author.
If I close the message it launches Adobe Story and it happens again, and it goes into an endless loop.
I've re-installed the latest version of Adobe air on my computer, and it still happens. I am able to login to Adobe Story on the webrowser but there's a lot of files missing. From reading the discussions I'm thinking this might be because its a free account, and the app is no longer available, and since it didn't sync for a long time.
If this is the case, is there a way to recover the missing files without upgrading to a paid account?
I don't want to pay for an account and discover that the files are still missing.
or is this a completely different issue?
In case this information is relevant I use an iMac with Mac OS X version 10.7.4, 3.1 GHz Intel Core i5 Processor, 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3 Memory.
Thank you.Hi,
We have recently pushed out a new build of Adobe Story.
If the update is still failing, please mail me(roverma <at> adobe <dot> com) the contents of AIR installation logs.
You can get the contents of the install log using the following steps:
Mac OS X
Open the Console application from the Applications/Utilities folder.
Select System.log from the log list on the left.
In the String Matching filter field, type Adobe AIR.
Select all, and then copy and paste into a text file.
Thanks

AIR Installer.app does not launch
Hi, I am trying to install AIR on a G3 PowerPC PowerBook that I have just formatted and installed Tiger on. I ran the OS X updates and am now running OS X 10.4.11. When I run the Adobe AIR Installer.app version 1.5.2 (downloaded from get.adobe.com/air/) nothing happens (no install instruction is run).
Anyone have any suggestions? is there a command I can issue to run the installer? I found an installer inside, at
"Adobe AIR Installer.app/Contents/MacOS/Adobe AIR Installer"; I've double clicked it and again, nothing happens.
Please help, I am installing AIR on this mac to test my AIR applications.
Thanks!
gtbThanks for the suggestion AshRid, I did as you suggested and it was silently crashing. Here is the "Adobe Air Installer.crash.log" contents. I dont understand it, maybe someone here does:

AIR installer download fails with MacOS
Hi
I have put my AIR-installer to my web-server (http://www.prepress.fi/eDocManager_e/update/eDocManager.air)
It doesn´t work if I just click the link in web-browser. I have to compress installer to ZIP-package, user has to decompress it then. I would like to make it work directly... it should be possible, I have used links to AIR-installer elsewhere.... what I´m doing wrong?
I have also problems with auto-update... but i have Flex SDK 3.5 in use and I heard there´s some bug that has something to do with update process... I tried to download SDK 3.5a but site was down few minutes age... I´ll re-try later...Have you set the mime type for AIR on your web server?
You can read this blog:

How do I work around large AIR Installer file for app updates?
I develop AIR apps which often come with many included files (pdf, doc, swf, images, etc). These get quite large, Total Air installer size measured in Gigs. Distribution is via DVD. Currently I create sub-folders under my project and place the assets. Works fine.
The rub comes when I want to issue program updates. The AIR update process would be great if I could just update my main program swf, but what I'm finding is that even if I'm doing a minor code update I still have to create this same multi-gigabyte AIR installer.
If I were using a Visual Studio installer I'd just include some sort of run-once that would copy all the assets after the installer completed. Then when building an update it would skip the 'copy all' part...but I can't see any way to do something similar with the AIR installer.
So, to summarize, I'd like to be able to issue updates to my main AIR SWF without including all the assets again. Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance,
Greg. No, I don't have any recommendations. You would need to sign up for the AIR redistribution program. When you do this you gain access to some tools that help the process. http://www.adobe.com/products/air/runtime_distribution1.html
The only warning is that you will have to create an installer for each of your target platforms (unless you find an installer product that is also cross-platform, of course).
