AIR+iOS=StageVideo zoom bug
Hi,
Using the StageVideo and Adobe AIR 3.2 SDK for an iOS app brings a strange zoom when the video starts, anyone any ideas of how to solve this problem?, is this a new bug in 3.2 SDK?
Also a few months ago we post an issue concatenating videos using the StageVideo where trying to play videos one after each other shows a flashing (video clears itself making impossible to play them seamlessly):
https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3133620
http://forums.adobe.com/message/4192764#4192764
Anyone is experiencing this 2 issues, any workarounds?
Thanks
Hello again,
Any chance that this bug will be looked at again?
I see someone else inquired about it here: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5319200
I have tried to "make some noise" on the bug ticket, but there doesn't seem to be anyone listening.
For some of us, this is a very signficant problem, as our software requires absolutely precision when a video starts to play, and this bug is effectively breaking that capability.
Our customers continue to complain, and I have worked around it the best I can by hiding the video until the moment it starts playback, but this is inconsistent at best, because it is essentially nondeterministic - I can't know exactly when the "zoom" effect has stopped, so I either see an "bump" at the tail end of the zoom effect if I show the video too soon, or I skip frames if I hide the video for too long.
Should I just assume this bug will never be fixed, and that Adobe has abandoned their interest in StageVideo on the iPad? If that is true, it is criticial for me to know so that I can begin planning on another solution.
Thanks for your help.

Return of the StageVideo Zoom Bug in 3.9 on iOS 7
This bug was most recently fixed just over a month ago:
https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3547660
However, the errant behavior is now happening again in iOS 7 whenever scaling is applied to an mp4 played via StageVideo.
I've logged a new ticket here, complete with an app demonstrating the problem:

Open local PDF inside Air iOS app
I am developing an AIR for iOS app for the iPad. My client would like the app to open a local PDF file within the app, rather than launching an external app (such as Adobe Reader). This is to give a seamless experience when using the app. I've seen that distriqt.com produce the 'PDF Reader' Native Extension based on www.vfr.org. VFR appears to have a series of interface controls that open along with the PDF, which I don't require. I emailed Distriqt a week ago to clarify, and have had no response.
Does anyone know of any other solutions to open a PDF inside an AIR iOS app?I've managed to load a PDF successfully inside my AIR iOS app, using the code from http://thatsthaway.wordpress.com/201...1/#comment-102.
However, I've just come across a weird feature / bug when viewing a PDF using stagewebview. I have a PDF that contains several internal hyperlinks, each navigating to a page within the same PDF document. If I select any of the hyperlinks, they do jump to the intended pages. However, if I reselect the same hyperlink again, it no longer works. If I select a different hyperlink, and then reselect a previous link, it will then work, but if I select the same hyperlink twice in a row, without selecting a different hyperlink in between, the link fails to work. The PDF hyperlinks all work ok outside of my app, on both Windows desktop and an iPad, just not inside of the AIR app.
Any ideas? -
Is anybody else having their Adobe AIR iOS app crash within the first second of opening it?
Is anybody else having their Adobe AIR iOS app crash within the first second of opening it?
I am using iPhone 6, iOS 8.1.3, with a development certificate.
With Adobe AIR SDK 16.0.0.283 and now with 17.0.0.93, after compiling the app (whether in release mode or debug mode), before the app getTimer() can ever reach 999 milliseconds the app will crash. No matter what code I have, it is just crashing before the runtime can ever reach the first second.
Anybody else having this kind of behavior?Chris,
Thanks for your prompt reply. I have found the way to reproduce. It is about interfaces, and when I try to call a method through an interface the app crashes. I think that it is related to having an interface with many parameters. I have logged the bug here:
Bug#3935199 - iOS App crashes when calling an objects method through interface -
AIR + iOS + geolocation updates + screen off = FAIL
Where do I start... I have been trying to tackle this issue for quite some time now and every time I think I have the answer something else comes along to crash the party.
I am in the process of building a multi-screen AIR mobile application with the AIR 3.0 SDK that records geolocation updates as they are sent from the device.
Everything works fine on Android but when I test on iOS here are my findings...
Geolocation updates work fine while the app is active.
In order for you app to be eligible for background services you need to set the UIBackgroundModes in your app-xml file for the service you would like to enable... in my case 'location' (which I did)
I found that doing this alone will not allow you to receive the location updates when the app is in the background. As soon as the app is "minimized", it goes into a suspended state and no code is being executed until the app beomes active again ...therefore none of the location updates are received.
I found that setting the 'audio' AND 'location' values together somehow allows me to run code while the app is in the background, just not while the screen is turned off. The moment you press the power button to turn the screen off, the app goes into a suspended state again.
To test if code can be run, I have set up an event listener that gets triggered when the app is deactivated and activated. I am setting a timer the moment the app gets deactivated and incrementing a variable every 100 milliseconds while the app is inactive. When the app becomes active again I report the number back in a debug textfield. If I dectivate the app by pressing the home button or open even open another app, the number that gets reported back when I go back to my app is accurate... but as soon as I press the power button to shut the screen off, the number stops incrementing shortly after.
I have seen plenty of native iOS geolocation-based apps get location updates while the screen is off, why is this not the case for an AIR iOS app? Is there a workaround for this? Does someone at Adobe need to fix this issue? At this point, I'm not even sure Native Extensions would do the trick... Am I doing something wrong?
ANY help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!Hi:
The issue you are facing on iOS is because of the known bug where there are no events fired when the screen is off(including the time events). This bug will be fixed in future releases. I will take care of posting on this thread when the release with this fix is out.
Thanks for posting.

Nice examples of Native Extensions. I am having an issue when trying to use a block in Objective-c Something as simple as
- (void) searchForAlbums
void(^test)(void) = ^{
NSLog( @"BLOCK CALLED" );
test();
does not work and FlashBuilder reports the following error.

Have you tried using blocks in an iOS extension?

ios 5 location bug... I live in South Africa and i would love to use the reminders app for the location based alerts but as you can see here -->https://p.twimg.com/Abyz8QQCAAAyuPQ.png:large
when you drop a pin it just gives you the general area no roads or anything,
i am wondering if this is a problem with google maps or with iOS5 or both
any ideas ?I have noticed the exact same issue. Since updating to iOS5 the maps app seems to not list the pin point position thus making the location based reminders very difficult to use.
I tested this with an iOS5 and an iOS4 device today and the iOS4 mapping gives street names and not just Johannesburg GP like on iOS5? See attached pictures with devices mapping at the same location?
I went into the Apple store in Sandton City on Thursday but the guy I spoke to simply said that it is a new operating system, and he would try and look into it? My problem is that if this is just a South African mapping iOS5 issue how long will it take to get resolved without being brought to the attention of the right people? -
cannot pair iPhone4 (iOS 7.1) with Macbook air (iOS 10 yosemite); they do see each other but will not connect via bluetooth
That is because they do not generally pair. What is it that you are trying to do by connecting them via Bluetooth? If you are referring to AirDrop or continuity, then all you need to do is have Bluetooth turned on, they do not pair.

iOS 5.1 bugs
what happened to apple?
im afraid that they're gonna fall the reputation and efforts of Steven Paul Jobs.
im using itouch 4g, it came with iOS 4.1 firmware and it worked as the apple device would be, it never showed me loading thing.
whatever i opened either music nor 720p videos, it never lagged.
But with iOS 5.1 all the things in my iOS device are starting up after loading.
the world's best music device is now turned to ordinary one.
please apple wake up and hear your customers.
in scrolling music albums and in landscape orientation the album arts are loading like the ordinary devices.
after unlocking, the touch is not responding for a few seconds.
i never expeted this in apple.I have indeed called Apple technical support. When I told the woman who took my call about the audio titles no longer appearing in video, she immediately tried to pin the blame on the video itself. She asked which video from the iTunes store gave me the problem. My reply was that I created the video myself - wrong answer! It must be that the video didn't meet the MP4 specifications, she told me. And she added that Apple can't support 3rd party videos. Ooh, good job, Apple technical support person; you just absolved Apple of all responsibility. Of course, she hated it when I told her that the video displayed audio titles with no problem in earlier IOS versions. In fact, I have the same video on an ipod touch 3rd generation (running IOS 4.3.5) that displays the audio titles perfectly, I told her. Her weak comeback was that she has no way of verifying what I'm telling her and that she can only troubleshoot when the videos come from iTunes. What a moron!!! I was tempted to tell her that the videos I make using Handbrake are of much better quality than what comes from iTunes, but I didn't want to get off track. And I have since confirmed that this problem affects Apple videos too from a post on another website. Maybe they have some good technical support people at Apple; but for the few times I called them on this and other issues, the people I spoke to were robotic in their responses and didn't seem to be in communication with the software designers who created the problems in the 1st place.
As for joining the Apple IOS Developer Program, I'm not sure I would feel comfortable with it since I'm not an IOS developer. I'm also irritated that a person would have more clout in reporting bugs as an IOS Developer than as a regular user. Since you're already part of this program, kevpan815, why don't you tell Apple how they're screwing up IOS with their updates and then report back here. I would be curious to know how they would respond. -
Reduce publishing time for Air iOS apps?
Hi,
Currently it's taking my machine up to 4 minutes to publish an Air iOS app.
Are there any settings or hacks I could try to reduce the time?
I'm using Flash CS 6 + AIR SDK 16 on a Windows 8.1 laptop.
Stats:
- Intel Pentium Prozessor (1,5 GHz, Intel HD Graphics, Microsoft Windows 8, 64-bit)
- 4 GB DDR3-RAM
- 500 GB Hybrid-SSHD-Festplatte with 8 GB SSD
Thanks for any tips.Hi,
I'm really interested in this feature as well. Have spent a bit of time attempting to get one running through a native extension but it doesn't appear to work. I believe something in the AIR build process is blocking the components required. I've tried several methods so far:
packaging the appex with an ANE
packaging the appex with the AIR container app
using a class instead of a storyboard
But nothing seems to be working. This is even before the app extension is doing anything. My guess is that the plist file specifying the app extension isn't correctly being included in the application but I have no idea how to update it to test. -
I cannot get my iPad air iOS 8.1.2 to talk to my epson wf 3640 which driver is 9.31. Both are on the same network so I am not sure why it is not working. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Hi otterSD,
When it comes to using AirPrint and it is not seeing your printer, the check the troubleshooting below to get it sorted out. You have already made sure it is on the same wireless network, so check to make sure that the printer does not need attention with any errors and check Epson’s website if there is any firmware updates for the printer.

If you're unable to print
Check these things if you are unable to print, or if you see the message "No AirPrint Printers Found."
Make sure your printer has paper, and enough ink or toner installed.
Make sure your printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your iOS device.
Make sure your printer has power and is turned on. Try turning your printer off and then back on again to see if it resolves your issue.
Check to see if your printer has any error lights or indicators displayed on the printer's control panel. Check the documentation that came with your printer to clear any errors displayed.
Check with your printer's manufacturer to see if any firmware updates are available for your printer. Check your printer's documentation or contact the printer vendor for more information. A firmware update may be available, even if you just bought your printer.
Take it easy,

IPad Air (IOS 7.1) stuck in "Sign in to iCloud" loop
iPad Air (IOS 7.1) continuously popping up the "Sign in to iCloud" window with an old Apple ID. When cancelling, it simply pops up again, immediately. And, because it is modal, I'm unable to get at Settings or anything else.
Unfortunately this started happening after the old WiFi modem/router died and before we could get logged into the replacement modem/router, so the device cannot see the network, at all, so cannot log into any iCloud accounts.
I have connected to iTunes and successfully updated from IOS 7.0.4 to 7.1, but even after the restart this behaviour continues. Unable to Reset or Restore the device as I am unable to turn off "Find My iPad".
Have tried the Home/Power hard reset to no avail, the pop-up continues to pop!
How do I get around/through/over/under or past this pop-up?
KyleHad to go back to factory settings, but that did the trick.
Probably wouldn't have been the problem it was, if it hadn't happened between WiFi connections. But without the network being available, it just went around in circles.
Thank you, very much! -
