How does airplay detect options for selecting where to play i.e.:computer vs smart tv?

Yes, I know it should detect it but here is the problem. I have 2 computers. One is a mac book pro, and one is a pc. The PC itunes detects the "Denon" receiver, as well as apple TV and computer no problem and it is listed in the options that can be selected. My itunes on the mac book pro only lists the computer and apple TV.
Can you tell me what I can do to get it to show on the mac?

Apple TV - Air Play - Home Sharing Problem

I have 2 ATVs. They are both the 3rd generation models. One is brand new and the other is about 1 year old. I also have a newer Macbook Pro and a 2013 Time Capsule. I like having my ATVs connected to my network via Ethernet because 1 - load times are faster and 2 - the year old ATV experiences Wi-Fi drops. Air Play or Home Sharing do not work at all while connected to Ethernet. As soon as I unplug them from the Ethernet the Airplay icon magically appears. This is frustrating because like I said one of my ATVs cuts in and out and I have to always hard reset it to get it to connect again. I have read tons of forums and spend countless hours changing settings on both my computer and router. Has anyone figured out a fix for this?

Not sure about the Wifi issue, obviously it shouldn't be happening..may want to look into your network setup.
For the remote, disable the IR receiver on your Macbook (System Pref - Security - disable remote control infrared receiver)
In regards to the last one, are you saying you can't rent content directly on ATV, not sure what the question was here?

Native Air Play for MacMini without AppleTV?

This question pertains to a recently-purchased MacMini, not earlier versions of the product.
I want to project images from an iPhone or iPad to a conference room LCD projector using Air Play. The most frequently recommended method for doing this is to equip the projector with an Apple TV.
However, it would be nice to occasionally access Internet content using the projector and a wireless keyboard/mouse--tasks not easily done using an Apple TV.
Can I equip the LCD projector with a MacMini rather than an Apple TV and still "Air Play" from iPhones and iPads? Or does Air Play functionality presume the existence of an Apple TV?

Can someone please help me. I need to find out if my iPod Touch 4th Generation can be used for Air Play with my Apple TV. When I go to photos I can use Air Play to display them. First try rebooting ATV and router. Beyond that, it's probably something within the network, typically interference.
To get a report of the network go to istumbler (Mac) or netstumbler (PC). Look for signal strength and noise.
If on wifi try ethernet.

their drivers should be available through Apple Software Updates:

You may be able to get a deal on a new printer as they are rapidly obsoleted.

Yet a driver for ancient Leopard 10.5.x may not be suitable for Mavericks 10.9.x
but the Gutenprint lead may be helpful to locate whatever may exist; or not.

Can I use air play to mirror anything that's on the screen of my iPad

I have the nfl gamerewind app on my iPad. I'd like to use air play to mirror the games from my iPad to my TV screen. Is this possible?
Or, is it possible to mirror the screen of my Windows 7 laptop to my TV using Apple TV?

There are 2 kinds of Airplay - one which 'mirrors the display' on AppleTV (in iPAd 4:3 aspect ratio). Mirroring is only available on iPhone4S and later and iPad 2 and later and certain newer Macs. Mirroring is processor intensive as it compresses each display frame and sends the video to AppleTV as well as having to do what an app is doing.
The other kind of Airplay available on some older devices essentially sends a pre-rendered compatible file to AppleTV to play rather than a mirror of the screen.
Note - content providers can and do block certain things from working with Airpolay so check if it's a particular app, game or website you want to airplay.
You might want to check out Airparrot which might be able to mirror your Windows laptop to AppleTV.

apple tv does not work in safari. there is no web browsing capabilities on the apple tv..
however what you are probably referring to is mirroring? iPad 2 and iPhone 4s have mirroring capabilities, so what you have on the screen is exactly what would appear in the apple tv..
on ipad for example...ignore the settings page. Instead, go to the iPod controls. Double-press your home button to see the multitasking bar, showing all your recent apps. Swipe your finger from right to left for the mirroring icon; you'll see the AirPlay icon. Tap on that, select your Apple TV and toggle the mirror button to 'on'.

I tried something new yesterday after reading all these messages. My ATV3 was situated on top of my satellite box and I noticed that it was quite warm. The instruction manual suggests that the box not go over a certain temperature, so I moved the box to a location without the heat under it. It now works without any problem at all...at least, so far.

What is difference between air play and home sharing when wanting to show photos on HD tv through apple tv? Just bought Mac book air and apple tv.

You would have to use home-sharing if streaming from a computer. Computer would need to be on and running iTunes.
