Air Port Express/ Mini Mac problems

Trying to link my Mini Mac to an iMac - both old.
iMac is successfully running 10.4.3 with Airport Extreme working.
Mini Mac (old) - no airport card - hooked up to AirPort Express with ethernet cable.
Mini Mac/ Airport Express seem unable to connect to Airport Extreme.
Located about 50 feet away from each other.
Any suggestions? Would it be better to connect the Airport Express to the Mini Mac with a USB cable?

Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
First you need to configure your AirPort Extreme and AirPort Express so that the two AirPort units for a "WDS" network. You can find instructions starting on page 42 of this manual:

That won't work. The AirPort Express USB port is only for a printer.

Air Port firmware upgrade

I did a software upgrade yesterday having read that it solves some serious security problems, and in the process I also got a firmware upgrade for the AirPort Extreme WIFI card in my MBP.
After the re-boot, my Mac was trying to connect to the 802.11n interface on my Air Port Extreme! This was totally unexpected since I have an older MBP without the 802.11n support - could the firmware upgrade have added it?
Wireless Card Type: AirPort Extreme (0x168C, 0x86)
Wireless Card Locale: USA
Wireless Card Firmware Version: 1.3.4
Current Wireless Network: wireless network not available
A more general question is - Where do I find details of each of the software/firmware upgrades and what they include - similar to Micro$oft's KB articles?

There was a thread here a few months ago - I can't find it now - that explained that Apple, in the newer versions of the MacBook Pro, upgraded the AirPort Extreme hardware. the way you could tell the difference between the "old" and "new" hardware was the numbers in parentheses (0x168C, 0x86) following the name. I don't remember which was what, and I can't find the thread, just that mine was NOT the "new" version that was upgraded to 802.11n.
That's why I was excited when the MacBook Pro started to try to authenticate to the 802.11n connection. I didn't have time to investigate further, and won't now for a couple of days, but when I learn more I'll report back here when I do.
I'm guessing from the numbers, that your Mac Mini has the same AirPort hardware, but don't take that as fact

Air Port Scanning Problem

I have a MacBook and wifi connection (netgear router is connected to DSL line) . Recently the internet has slowed to a screeching halt. When I look at the Air Port menu bar, Air Port shows that it's continually bouncing from AirPort:scanning to AirPort:on. It shows that I have 4 bars for the connection but yet it takes forever to load any webpage. Has anyone had this type of problem and does anyone know how to fix it?

have had problems with my air port extreme can not find my iphone but it finds my ipad without problem. had it in one place temporarily
I moved it to the place I want it to be. then it started to malfunction finding the ipad but not my iphone so I moved back air port extreme to the first place I had it on in which it worked . it did not help! so is there anyone who could help me please

Air Port Extreme connection problems

I have a Macbook Pro and a 1st gen. Ipod connected to the Internet using an Air Port Extreme. At this time I cannot use two devices at once to access the Internet, only one or the other. What should I do to adjust settings on my Airport?

The modem is a Motorola modem (silver) provided by AT&T and the model # is: 2210-02-1022 - I believe this is correct

I see you're running 10.4.7 - would you consider running software update (select the blue apple in the top menubar, then select software update) and upgrading to 10.4.8, as well as applying any other updates for your MacBook?
It may resolve the issue. The other possible answer is that your wireless connection is experiencing interference.
If you have other 2.4GHz devices (portable house phones, microwave) within reasonable distance form your wireless router it may cause interference with your wireless connnectivity.

Air Port Express Audio drop Out Problem

Hi I have just brought an Air Port Express home and spent the evening setting it up which went relatively smoothly, but once tested using the Optical out into an Musical Fidelity V3 X Dac (Digital to Analog Converter) the sound persistently jitters making music unlistenable,using conventional 3.5mm stereo jack output works fine it only seems to be on the optical.
Have read as much as I can find of use on the net but it seems either the optical out is faulty or incompatible with this DAC or some people have mentioned it might be the latest version of I tunes all my soft-wear is up to date.
Does anyone have a solution or should I return it or will anyone at Apple no what I`m talking about in the shop I got the impression they didn`t know anything about the Optical out.

You will need to try several different optical cables as they vary tremendously in their signal integrity. It is not unusual to see two identical cables from the same manufacturer perform very differently. Check out the store's return policy and try several different cables to see if you can find the right combination.

Problems with Air Port Express

I had an AE connected working fine. Now I have the amber light. Tried to reset while plugged in until amber light flashes. Support says the green light will flash 5 times but it never does. Air port Utility shows no AE. What do I do? All i get is this steady amber light. Do I connect it via my time cap? I do not get it.

From Ipad I can see the informations as following : IP Adress , Lan IP Adress 10.0.1.1 , version 7.6.4.....,...Model Airport Extreme 802.11n (5th Generation) ....in full details. I had this problem a couple of days ago. Near as I can figure, the drive drops off line periodically. Many people are having this issue. On your Mac, go to finder and see if the MyCloud shows up. Mine didn't last time I had a problem. I ended up unplugging the drive, letting it sit for a couple of minutes, and then plugged it back in. I also disconnected the ethernet cable(not sure if this was necessary). After a few minutes, it showed up in finder. I use Time Machine and Time Machine editor to perform backups daily. I know it's dropped off line if my Mac hasn't backed up in the last couple of days. If it's currently online, and was just unavailable when the Time Machine attempted a backup, I just let it go.
I have the Airport Extreme base station as well. I have been unsuccessful in port frowarding with this thing. I always have a Relay Connection on the Settings-General-Cloud access portion of the My Cloud dashboard. It seems to work fine, and overcoming this issue has dropped to the bottom of my To Do list. As long as Remote Access is on, and it shows connected(Relay or otherwise), you should be good to go. It evidently isn't optimal, but then again neither are my technical abilities.
Hope this helps. I am an average user with average(at best) computer abilities. This is just my average experience. P.S. Moving the drive while it's operating is bad...Mmmkay!

Mac Power PC G5 with Air Port Extreme

At home I have installed, since many years, a Wi-Fi network using an Air Port Extreme Base station. This works fine with different computers. Now I have “recovered” an older Mac from my office, which works with a dual PowerPC G5 and OS 10.5.8. It seems that this machine is not able to work with a wireless network (no Air Port antenna). I would really appreciate to connect this machine to the Internet. Obviously one possibility is to draw several meters of Ethernet cable through the apartment … *Here is my question: is it possible to use Air Port Express for connecting my Mac with PowerPC G5 to my normal Wi-Fi network (and to Internet)? In other words: the PowerPC G5 is connected to the Air Port Express via a short Ethernet cable and has then access to my Wi-Fi network?* Thanks in advance and all the best for the New Year.

Apple airport extreme firmware 7.5
Vista x64 will connect to access point and receive IP address from server, but will not connect to the internet unless WPA2-AES security is disabled.
I get no response when pinging the gateway (10.0.1.1)
My XP machine will connect - no issues.
The vista laptop will connect to a friend's timecapsule firmware 7.4.2.... puzzling.
I hope someone has an clue to figure this out.

With that older AirPort Express you're stuck with WDS unless you decide to replace it with a newer model.
The AEBS is currently setup as being a WDS Relay at the moment
Why a relay? That's only needed if there's another base station "beyond" it that is configured to depend on it.
Since the AEBS is connected to the TC via Ethernet, you should probably configure it as a "roaming network":

I don't have any experience with mixed WDS and non-WDS networks, but since it's 802.11n-capable, you may be able to configure it to "extend" the network of the TC rather than as WDS. Look for a setting on the TC to "Allow this network to be extended".
Physical location:
AEBS in one end, TC and AE-Alpha in the middle while AE-Beta on the other end.
A device such as "AE-Beta" that's supposed to extend a network shouldn't be "at the end" but should be half way between the central base station and the clients that need an extended network.

How can I use my IPAD to stream Musik to two Air Port Clients in a network at the same time?

I want to stream my musik via I PAD to more than one Air Port Clients at the same time. Via MAC it is possible to select "more speaker". In the I PAD I can only select Station 1 or Station 2.

You can put time controls onto the offending addresses.
But if the hackers know anything at all they know how to access the MAC address of the computer and change it.. so the effectiveness of this is limited.
Change the current setup and password.. You must use WPA2 Personal and I recommend you use a pure alphanumeric password, mix case and numbers of 20 characters or more for your situation.. do not give that password to anyone.. protect the admin password of the TC itself equally well but with a different password. And protect the physical access to the TC from anyone in your home.. because the fact is all security on the TC is an illusion if the TC has open access.

If you make no progress.. I suggest replacement of the TC as the main router of your network.. you need something with controls.. and even better controls that allow you to block people.
The favourite one now is older Netgear WNDR3800 . .you might need to buy from ebay although a few new ones are still around.. alternatively the WNDRMACv2 is simply the same hardware in a white box.. instead of black.

Hi I am having Wi fi connectivity issues , while using my computer the wi fi dropped out , I can no longer connect and no networks come up. I have tried looking into the air port, trying manually to connect to the desired network with no success , it says the Wi fi is turned on. I am at a loss to why it will no longer connect, please if you have any suggestions,as I tried to ring apple support but my warranty has expired this is my first major issue since I purchased it in 2009.

My 4s i-phone which is 2 years old cannot find any wi-fi networks not even my home network... I had the same problem two months ago but i turned off the i-phone for 8 hours and then it was okay... Now it happened again.... I tried to restart the modem but whilst my laptop is connected regularly, my phone still cannot find any wi-fi networks... I restart the i-phone, i reset it, i chose reset network settings, reset all settings, i turned it off for a whole day in case it was overloaded, i turned on the airplane mode and turned it off again, i put it into the freezer for 10 minutes within a zipped bag but 3 days now and i still cannot be connected to my home wifi... I went to the technician today and he told me that it means that wi-fi is broken and that i need to change it with a charge of 70 euro but i have to give my phone for 10 working days so as to be fixed... I am so frustrated and i don't know if i want to give 70 euro for wifi since i don't know if it would make the same problems again...
